Re:Top bar

His coding for it was here, but you can use {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} to pick what you want for the title.   jj137 (talk) 02:06, 5 February 2008 (UTC) Bold text

It may just be the namespace, because I know I've gotten it to work before. Try {{User:One/Title|}}, that definitely will work.   jj137 (talk) 02:15, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Lepoglava prison potential DYK

Well the good news is that the criteria was recently bumped back down to 1500 characters of pure article text. However, Lepoglava prison is currently at 1,198 bytes. But there is still 4 more days to expand it. AgneCheese/Wine 02:31, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

I actually like the second better. But nom them both. Other editors may have different views. AgneCheese/Wine 21:00, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

My RfA
Thank you very much for your support in my RfA which I really appreciate. It closed at 83/0/0. I was surprised by the unanimity and will do my best to live up to the new role. All the best, --ROGER DAVIES talk 16:49, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Protection

I have reviewed and declined the page protection request for Stormbreaker (novel). Generally we only protect when there is a period of recent vandalism activity - in this case, there's nothing for about a week, so I'm not comfortable pre-emptively protecting it. Thanks for keeping an eye on it though! I encourage you to watchlist and revert and let me know if there are problems. - Philippe | Talk 22:48, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Fantasy Baseball

CBS Sportsline is up and running and the description is....

"A league for wikipedians that have organized it"

Apparently everyone EXCEPT us has joined it. I'll create another one.

ALSO! ESPN.COM OPENS UP ON THE 17th! MAYBE WE COULD TRY THAT IF SPORTSLINE DOESN'T WORK! HPJoker Leave me a message 00:29, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Before I set it up, anyone know the difference between Standard Rotisserie, 5X5 Rotisserie, Roto Plus, and Weekly Head to Head? Those are the different types of scoring options on CBS Sportsline. Go cbssportsline.com/fantasy, click play fantasy baseball, look below and click FREE FANTASY BASEBALL. After you've clicked that, click the yellow PLAY NOW button, then enter in you're team name (you're wikipedia name?). After you've entered in your team name, scroll down. You'll see a link that says Search for League by Name. Click that and search for Boston Red Sox Wikiproject. Description is A league for me, jj137, Stormtracker94, and Milk's Favorite Cookie. You should be there then! It's a private league so let me know if you can't find it.

Re:RFA

Well, that's good news to hear! There's someone you know will support you when you run :)   jj137 (talk) 01:31, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

That's even better. I think it always looks good when people co-nom (it shows the candidate must be pretty good).   jj137 (talk) 01:34, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I know it should, but I don't know if the rule is set in stone. Stormtracker withdrew his RFA, but I really would have liked to see it pass.   jj137 (talk) 01:40, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I think it would be difficult to create a bot that bolds the title, because it could be prone to false positives (sometimes it isn't the exact article name that's bolded). With Oreobot, doesn't look like it has gotten too far; I suggest saying that it could use AWB's typo list and maybe a handful of others, or something like that. Fixing typos is risky because there could easily be a lot of false positives.   jj137 (talk) 01:45, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I think I know what's there, so I'll make sure to skip it.   jj137 (talk) 01:53, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Oreo in milk yay!.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Oreo in milk yay!.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:52, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

They do love to see AFD participation and high Wikipedia namespace edit count. When participating in AFDs, be careful not to go too fast (see also WP:AADD). I used to do that, and it (I think) almost caused my RfA to fail.   jj137 (talk) 03:00, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Schools

Hi there; my understanding was that, even for a school, there should be some indication of notability rather than just a one-line statement of existence. That was certainly the policy the last time I searched for it, and I had not been aware of discussion since. But I would absolutely not argue with you, and if indeed policy has changed as you suggest then I would be happy to restore the article. Do you have a diff to point to? --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 12:39, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

No, the article should definitely stay deleted. But just a notice, that after a long discussion, schools are not to be deleted undert A7. But, no the article should not be restored. Thanks! - Milk's Favorite Cookie 19:52, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

We don't actually protect pages unless there are multiple events, widespread, over the course of a very small time period (for instance, several instances a day, every day). In cases less than that, we encourage you to just watchlist and revert.

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Aston_mertin_lake.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:LaDainian Tomlinson.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 04:12, 8 February 2008 (UTC) Also the following:

Please see WP:NFCC#1 for more info. Thanks, ˉˉanetode╦╩ 04:49, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

In contesting several of these images, you made blatantly false statements. Please do some research before you assert that an article's subject is deceased. It's hard to take arguments seriously when they are predicated upon lies or misrepresentations. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 04:45, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for your many nominations at DYK. You may have noticed that a majority of your nominations have not been accepted. It would help us if you were to familiarize yourself with the rules, which you can find at WP:DYK#The DYK Rules. Not only that, but please credit the original article contributors in your nomination, like "Article by User:Jimbo Wales, nominated by ~~~~." OK, I have verified the Sea Island hook. Fair use rationale for Image:Donorsilo.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Donorsilo.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 16:14, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm curious to know who the editor on the radio was (if you check out the list you could probably figure it out :))   jj137 (talk) 21:11, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Gurch, maybe? Yes, I did know Rudget retired, it was for personal reasons.   jj137 (talk) 22:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Gurch? No, I don't think so, he's still actively editing.   jj137 (talk) 22:17, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

confused

hi mfc, i'm confused by recent messages. You have a template today for the DYK (see above) and a thx for the RFA support - (hope you found the bucket) Can you explain? Victuallers (talk) 21:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Updated DYK query On 29 January, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Dorothy Canning Miller, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Charlotte Anderson

Hi, I noticed the Charlotte Anderson article that you have contributed on the uncatagorized page list. However, sources indicate this actress was Charlotte Ander (de:Charlotte Ander), for whom a Wikipedia page already exists. • Gene93k (talk) 23:31, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

ImageMaps

Victuallers told me about this tool which helps create imagemaps. Wow. Check out the changes I made to archives till 38 page (still a couple I have to fix, I think).   jj137 (talk) 03:05, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Boston Celtics FA Nom

Though this seems like it won't succeed, I could help you with the issues addressed to help bring the article to FA status. Just drop me a note on what to do and I will get started. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 20:52, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll get started later today or tomorrow. Also, it seems that the Mets getting Santana is good, because I wouldn't want to see all of these young prospects being traded. STORMTRACKER 94 Go Sox! 21:02, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

AWB

Yes, you should be able to - when you compile the list, there should be an option in one of the tabs to change all of the pages to Talk: namespace. To make your TOC in the center, just use {{TOCcenter}}.   jj137 (talk) 21:09, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

The image (til 38) is fixed now. I'll work on adding the archive images by adding them in a scrollable (sic) box, if that sounds correct.   jj137 (talk) 21:19, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll just put that in a box. Do you want me to go ahead and do that?   jj137 (talk) 21:22, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Argh. Worked around with it but couldn't get it to work right (still trying!). Have you ever considered linking any of your Oreo pictures to Oreo?   jj137 (talk) 21:38, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Aah, I'm completely stuck. If you suggest it at the help desk I'm sure someone will probably be able to solve it within minutes.   jj137 (talk) 21:49, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Boston Celtics assessments

Hey. Seems like you're assessing a slew of start-class articles as stubs. May I ask about your criteria, or the reason for this? Wizardman 21:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Ramón Rivas, Fred Roberts, Dwayne Schintzius, Rajon Rondo among others. (I only checked a few, there may be more). Wizardman 03:00, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Just makign sure you saw this, since jj sent so many messages below you may have missed it. Wizardman 03:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

2 things

For the new pages, nothing I know of. New Page Watcher may have something you can use.

I haven't been able to find anything for the Celtics other than the all-time roster. I guess we will just have to tag non-bios the "old-fashioned way".   jj137 (talk) 22:52, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

At Special:Newpages you could sort them for the last month or so, but you would have to keep track for longer.   jj137 (talk) 23:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Sacha inchi AFD

Hi there, i'm sure you've noticed which way the AFD is going, perhaps you would consider withdrawing your nom? -- Ļıßζېấשּׂ~ۘ Ώƒ ﻚĢęخ (talk) 23:39, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Re:Bot

Actually, I am very experienced with Pywikipedia bot and AWB bot software (I used to run a bot all day everyday on another wiki). Actually, if you download and install the Pywikipedia bot software (if you want!), I can definitely help you with a bot.   jj137 (talk) 00:22, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I use XP too; firstly, if you don't already have Python installed, you will need to download/install that (just takes a few minutes, no big deal). Once you do that, you can just download the software from here. Are you familiar with command line at all? That's what you use to run it. It's actually pretty simple, assuming the fact I was able to figure it out and know relatively nothing about command line. (Sorry if all of that was confusing.)   jj137 (talk) 00:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
It looks like you click on "Python 2.5.1 Windows installer" -   jj137 (talk) 00:37, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
You shouldn't have to open an RFBA yet - just make sure not to make any edits before opening one. Yes, the step-by-step is confusing; once it is done installing, read through it, and let me know if you can't figure something out.   jj137 (talk) 00:42, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah, OK. Just save it wherever you want, I guess; you don't really even need to do anything with any of the files, but the pywikipedia somehow needs it to work.   jj137 (talk) 00:44, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
No, I don't think so.   jj137 (talk) 00:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
If you have both things installed, I'm pretty sure that's where the directions come in. Try reading through them and see if you can figure out anything. Let me know if you're stuck/confused.   jj137 (talk) 00:50, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Specifically, what part of this are you confused on?   jj137 (talk) 00:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, now I'm confused! :)   jj137 (talk) 01:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Your pick. WordPad, Notepad, etc., whatever you prefer.   jj137 (talk) 01:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Wow, that was fast! You did modify it to "Ohmpandyabot", right? (You may want to rename that, if you want)   jj137 (talk) 01:16, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
You can rename it or create a new account while logged in, whatever's easiest. Now, are you able to login using command line?   jj137 (talk) 01:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Here's how:
  1. Open command line.
  2. Type in chdir (whatever file name is where list of .py files is saved)
  3. type in login.py
  4. It should ask you for your password. Type in the bot password (also, make sure "Oreobot" is specified in the file)– it will be invisible, but it will be entering it.
  5. If successful, it will tell you a random note about how your bot isn't registered or something like that.

Let me know if you get this far.   jj137 (talk) 01:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Where exactly does it say there is an error - in the command line, or in the file?   jj137 (talk) 01:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
OK, do you have "Oreobot" specified in user-config.py? Optionally, just post what the text in that file says and I can fix it :)   jj137 (talk) 01:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Remove the space between the u and the ' . If that doesn't work, I have another suggestion...   jj137 (talk) 02:03, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Just follow the steps above.   jj137 (talk) 02:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Say for example the list of files (user-config.py, login.py, move.py, etc. etc.) is saved in "C:\Wikipedia\pywikipediabot" or something like that. You would type in "chdir C:\Wikipedia\pywikipediabot". Then you would use login.py .   jj137 (talk) 02:09, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
You did type in the location of the file, and not the example, right?   jj137 (talk) 02:15, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
LOL, just kidding. So, when you open command line, what are you typing?   jj137 (talk) 02:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Don't forget the chdir in front of it.   jj137 (talk) 02:21, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
The second one - there should be a space in between.   jj137 (talk) 02:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Is it still telling you invalid syntax? If you're typing it in correctly, and that is where all of the pywikipedia bot files are, then it should work properly.   jj137 (talk) 02:27, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
If you open a fresh command line, copy and paste the below code into the command line and press enter, and it surely is telling you that, then I'm totally out of ideas.

chdir C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop1\Desktop\Python\pywikipedia

  jj137 (talk) 02:34, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Wait - try going to that file name through My Documents. Does it come up with all of the pywikipedia bot files?   jj137 (talk) 02:35, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Not sure what service pack 2 is, but yeah, that might be the problem.   jj137 (talk) 02:48, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Just looked up what it was, and it looks like I already have it. Wow, I didn't even know.   jj137 (talk) 02:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
That's too bad. Well, you said your laptop has it, so maybe that will fix the problem.   jj137 (talk) 02:53, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Now I know!! (I think) You typed in an extra "Desktop". Type in: chdir C:\Documents and Settings\Desktop1\My Documents\Pywikipedia

  jj137 (talk) 02:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Aah, so close.   jj137 (talk) 03:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

User talk help request

Well, I tried. I think that's what you were aiming for, and if not, hopefully that's close enough for you to tweak the code around a bit. The changes I made were mainly in your /Top template, and basically consisted of slapping the two archive things and the TOC in an invisible table. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure how to make your second archive pile as large as the other one (or vice versa), mainly because I have no idea how you did all that in the first place. I hope that works for you - if not, it should be easy enough for you to undo - one edit each here and on the template. Happy Editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I've got the scroll bar in. Had to fight the spam blacklist to do it, though, which was kinda weird. Anyway, I'm not sure what you mean by "wide" - I guess things are running off on your screen? I'm using a 1440x900 screen resolution and it looks fine to me, but I'm not quite sure how to get things smaller without messing with those imagemaps of yours. Which, again, I have no idea how to do. Sorry. Looks pretty good on my screen, though. :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Re:Barnstar

Thank you very much! I would have liked to fixed this, though.   jj137 (talk) 03:08, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
