Adoption

You left a message asking me if I would like to be adopted; I think I would, thanks! --Mistsrider (talk) 04:54, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I have a section on my page for things I'd like help on. Additionally, I'd like to know how to do page redirects (like, "rowlings redirects to this page j. k. rowlings"), and also some advice about how to find writing guidelines in Wikipedia? I'd like to edit some articles with foreign language components, and I remember there was this guideline I read about what format the foreign language phrases and notes (like pronunciation) should be written in. --Mistsrider (talk) 05:13, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi! thanks for your interest yeah i've been having some problems with like everything especially uploading images i would really appreciate your help, i did this little article but i think they wanna delete it :-( till now i'been checking other pages to see how people made articles, but is better if i get help , again thank you --Ohverde (talk) 06:09, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Re:Templates

Not sure if that's a good idea. They're a little redundant, aren't they?   jj137 (talk) 23:36, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

You really should just stick with the regular {{WikiProject Boston Red Sox}} template.   jj137 (talk) 23:40, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
It works perfectly, but I am about 99% sure someone will come along and they will all be speedy deleted or taken to TFD, and all of your work now will be pointless. (That's our deletion system for ya.)   jj137 (talk) 00:08, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Because they're basically redundant; they're just {{WikiProject Boston Red Sox}} in several different forms.   jj137 (talk) 00:28, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
OK then. Still, probably not a good idea to use them.   jj137 (talk) 00:47, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Redsox assessment templates

Hi MFC - hope you don't mind, but I've just moved your new templates to more standard names:

The reason is that the first two templates could easily be confused for stub templates, which they're not - they're Stub-Class assessment templates (only stub templates end with -stub, or have -stub as part of their names). The other two I've moved for uniformity - this is how they're usually named. Hope this doesn't cause you any concerns. Grutness...wha? 00:44, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Of course it's possible. I'm doing one right now. We can just join one and others will come naturally. We ain't the only people on SportsLine. Fantasy baseball

You missed the draft today!   jj137 (talk) 01:33, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry about it, it automatically picked for you. Know what's crazy? I had 6th pick and I still got Santana.   jj137 (talk) 01:35, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
That's not that bad (I have about 6000 articles that need copyediting). At least it will give you something to do. Oh yeah, you're mentioned in the newsletter coming out tomorrow.   jj137 (talk) 01:45, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

I think for that one, I just saw a link on your userpage. :)   jj137 (talk) 04:01, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

What's the way to make AWB work faster? I mean, what do you do?   jj137 (talk) 04:11, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Hmm... never tried it. Is it a lot faster?   jj137 (talk) 04:15, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I'll make sure to try it next time I use AWB. (I just finished copyediting about 300 articles, now just trying to get some "real editing" done.)   jj137 (talk) 04:20, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
The chart? No, it is updated by a bot once every few days.   jj137 (talk) 04:22, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
That's funny. There's another way to "trick" it: if it says "no changes made, click ignore" or something like that, if you hit save, the number of edits you made will be +1 even though you didn't actually make an edit. BTW, have you considered archiving your talk page?   jj137 (talk) 04:26, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Wow, you archived a lot, and there's still a lot of comments there! :) I set up automatic archiving on my talk page.   jj137 (talk) 04:34, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. Are you going to?   jj137 (talk) 04:37, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

You're right. (I wouldn't be surprised if you got in an edit conflict with MoP on my talk page in a few minutes.)   jj137 (talk) 17:32, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
It could be a while though, he's got about 80 more people before he gets to me.   jj137 (talk) 17:35, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Either he was pulled over and got a ticket (and probably his license taken away...) or he had a wreck and his car blew up.   jj137 (talk) 17:39, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
AWB, I know. I personally think it shows they're not lazy to go without it, though. (Just my opinion, but I hardly ever see anyone give RfA thanks using AWB.)   jj137 (talk) 17:41, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I imagine it would be funny to see that happen due to the guy's stupidity (although pretty painful to him).   jj137 (talk) 17:44, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

So, you have 2 GAs, 7 nominated DYKs, 3 FPs, and 1 FA?   jj137 (talk) 17:50, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Nothing obvious I can think of, but I can help expand the references section.   jj137 (talk) 17:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I just meant using {{cite web}} and the like more (see today's Main Page FA).   jj137 (talk) 18:00, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

No, it is today's Main Page FA, and we never semi-protect that unless extreme vandalism.   jj137 (talk) 18:51, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Re:Sockpuppetry

Hard to tell. Do you know who the guy is? I just moved the page for capitalization when I saw it in New Pages.   jj137 (talk) 01:43, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

I was looking at the page history. That's really obvious sockpuppetry.   jj137 (talk) 01:44, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Aah, yeah, just simple stuff like that. I think it's strange how some users will come here and know nothing (I didn't) while some will come and immediately know more about some things (like wikimarkup) then I do.   jj137 (talk) 01:46, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
I usually only see "do not delete" when it's the author of the page. No one else will do that.   jj137 (talk) 01:47, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
I don't know... you can if you want. I imagine the closing admin will completely disregard it (that's one of the most obvious cases of meatpuppetry I've seen).   jj137 (talk) 01:49, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I didn't notice that.   jj137 (talk) 01:52, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

He left that on several user's talk pages.   jj137 (talk) 01:57, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Reply to note

Hello Steve, thanks for the welcome. I'm currently following the "lurk before you leap" policy, so I'd like to remain "anon" for now, and ask for indulgence in that regard. Not sure yet whether I'll be in or out. Great project to be a part of. Am aware of benefits and such, but want to read a bit more (style, article development, etc). Have some concerns regarding contentiousness, wars, vitriol, experienced users with an agenda, and "cabals" where experienced users effectively circumvent Wikipedia policies. I'll decide in the fullness of time. On a positive note, (1) even though I'm anon, you can use my first name, "24"; and (2) the U. of Illinois BBall team hands out a "Kenny Battle" award to the player who shows the greatest heart, in remembrance of Battle's days there - don't know much else, but hope that helps! 24.178.228.14 (talk) 03:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Emperor Charles fifth.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Emperor Charles fifth.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 01:40, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Cricetulodon, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. A lot of my WP edits these days are related to images and copyright law (reducing sizes for Fair Use images, adding tags for missing license info, adding rationales), and so when I saw that nom (especially after having been around for the first failed one), I was a bit wary.
Thanks for keeping an eye on it — it's good to know someone would have caught it if I hadn't. tiZom(2¢) 22:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
