Thank you for correcting my editing error in Vanity Fair (magazines). Please note, however, that I was not involved in changing en dashes to em dashes or vice versa. I changed hyphens to en dashes, which I don't believe is controversial, although obviously it should not be done in a way that damages links. Anomalocaris (talk) 02:56, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. I have no strong opinion on en dash v/s en dash disputes (I just feel strongly that making changes that destroy links to articles and media is inappropriate). I'm glad you're aware of the problem. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 03:10, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mammy's Cupboard

[edit]

Nice job taking pictures of the place. When I read about it in Road Trip USA and looked for more sources for it, I was surprised that it didn't already have an article. Wikipedia still has room to grow. SL93 (talk) 00:25, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It was closed when we drove past, hence I got no interior photos. Thanks for the article, a needed filling of a gap in Wikipedia. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 00:30, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you have been looking at

[edit]

[1] in terms of copyright and possible moving to commons. That photo is from the Bob Perrone collection. He is Rene Paul Chambellan's grandson, which I believe gives him as much or more right than anyone else to discuss copyright. He allowed me to use that image (and a bunch of others) on wikipedia and elsewhere else that I wanted (I have another large project that uses that sort of thing [2]) with the understanding that by doing so he was turning that particular images loose. Copyright free. You still might not want to move it to commons, but that is the background. I can answer any other questions that I can. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:00, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:USMailbox1909.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Pages like these are relics of the early days of Commons before the image description appeared on local wikis. Removing the duplicate descriptions is a simple matter of housekeeping; delete away. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 12:12, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the category rename

[edit]

Over on commons:Category:Coatzacoalco, Veracruz was renamed by you. Thank you for taking care of that. 69.115.42.244 (talk) 18:19, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your fast revert of the anonymous move to Pau Casals. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, and I was just trying to puzzle out how to fix it. Milkunderwood (talk) 22:47, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yesterday I had added a number of recordings, but had not thought to look at the Discussion tab - had no idea there had been a long-standing war going on about his name. What confused me in the latest move that you reverted was that although my additions on the main page were still there, my edits were missing from the History tab. Still don't understand what was going on there. Milkunderwood (talk) 00:01, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The editor tried to do a unilateral "move" by "copy and paste" rather than the page move feature. "Copy and paste" attempts to "move" pages are inappropriate since they lose all the article edit history and attribution, thus that would have been reverted even if there had been consensus to retitle the page (which in this case there hasn't been.) Cheers, Infrogmation (talk)
I appreciate the explanation - I'm still learning all these tricks to make WP do what you hope might happen. :-) Milkunderwood (talk) 00:13, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Casals

[edit]

I was the anonymous user that made the changes, and I think are absolutely appropriate, because there is no such thing as Spanish Catalan, Catalonia is different culture and Pau never identified himself as Spanish, please answer me because this is a serious matter --Polmas (talk) 20:49, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good day. That article has long been subject to people unilaterally removing all mention of "Catalonia" on one side, and other people removing all mention of "Spain" on the other side. Per discussion on the talk page, it was agreed that both Catalonia and Spain should be mentioned. (He was born in the part of Catalonia within Spain at the time, as opposed to being a Catalan born within France, no? ) Discussion of suggested improvements to the article should go on the article talk page. Thanks for your input. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 21:02, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Resource request

Hi Infrogmation!

Do you have access to the library now? The Advocate published "Inmate plagiarism suit dismissed" and printed it on February 13, 1991. If you could get a copy of it, that would be wonderful! Thank you WhisperToMe (talk) 08:46, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Hey, Infrogmation! I saw that you were a bureaucrat/administrator here, so I was just wondering if you might be able to answer a question I had. The thing is, I'm an admin on a different wiki, and another admin on the same wiki posted a question to the rest of the admins asking if there was a URL that can be used to show any user their current number of edits on the wiki. On our wiki, there's a page called Special:Editcount that conveys that information (I don't think Wikipedia has a page like this though), so another admin advised him to use this URL: http://_________.com/Special:Editcount/Username. That URL would achieve the desired result, but one would have to constantly put the username of the specific user at the end of the URL when posting it on that user's talk page, so my goal was to come up with a way to avoid that; almost to create something you could post on any user's talk page without changing any part of it and still get the desired result. I came up with this: {{fullurl:Special:Editcount/{{BASEPAGENAME}}}}, this way, one could just post the coding on the talk page of the desired user and the returned URL would automatically direct the user to their respective edit count. This worked successfully for every other user whose talk page I tested the coding on (without saving the page, of course); the only problem is that the user he wanted to do this for has an "*" both at the beginning and the end of their username (the second asterisk isn't a problem, just the first), meaning that instead of being returned as:

http://_________.com/Special:Editcount/*User*

it gets returned as:

{{fullurl:Special:Editcount/

  • User*}}

and doesn't take anyone anywhere, because it's just the raw coding. So I was just wondering if you knew of any way to circumvent this problem (aside from just telling him to post "http://_________.com/Special:Editcount/*User*" on the user's talk page, which isn't the end of the world, but is, of course, what I was trying to get around in the first place), maybe by putting some other form of coding that I'm not aware of somewhere in the existing coding or something. Any light you may be able to shed on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

69.204.38.3 (talk) 23:18, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was actually able to find a solution that fixed the problem; just had to add {{urlencode:}} to the coding. Thank you for your help and time.

Superdome Photo

[edit]

Hi Infrogmation,

I noticed you removed the updated photo of the Superdome from its wiki page. The picture I provided was taken during the exterior renovation and re-skin of the Superdome that was performed by Gibbs Construction. I am a Project Engineer for that company and received permission to load our photo in place of the picture that featured the aged skin it used to have. I am sad that it was taken down and once again replaced with such a dated photograph of the building. I am a huge fan of our stadium would love to see a nice picture that reflects some of the $336 million in renovations that have recently taken place. Please let me know what would be required to allow me to load any of the many attractive pictures I have at my disposal of the Superdome's new exterior that were taken during construction. Also, by what means does Wikipedia verify if a picture is copyrighted? The picture I loaded was saved directly from the construction photos on our server as a jpg file.

If all else fails, perhaps you could use some of your photography skills to capture a new picture of the arena at sunset?

Thanks, nwill21 - Superdome fan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nwill21 (talkcontribs) 05:00, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The photo File:Louisiana Superdome.jpg, which you uploaded as your own photograph and licensed with yourself as copyright holder, was deleted on Commons as a copyright violation after an OTRS complaint sent to Commons from the photographer Michael Palumbo [3] [4]. It was deleted by Commons administrator Commons:User:Túrelio. If you have questions about this particular deletion which I have not answered, you may wish to contact them.
If you were not the photographer and copyright holder of that photo, you uploaded it under a false claim and false license. You state here that you "received permission" to load the photo; that is not what you stated on the photo description. Uploading copyrighted work that is not your own needs explicit permission from the copyright holder. The copyright holder is usually the original photographer, unless somone else or some company has made an agreement with the photographer to purchase not just limited reuse of their photos but the copyright as well. For info on how to upload other people's copyright work under free licenses with their permission, see Commons:Commons:OTRS. -- Infrogmation (talk) 13:24, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

After looking into it, you are correct; my appologies to Michael Paulumbo. I was incorrect regarding the ownership of this particulr picture. It's a shame it will not be seen, it was a really good photograph. I'm now on a mission to duplicate it myself. Any laws against taking pictures of the same object from a similar location? :) I dont have your photography skills, but I'll try. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.139.39.110 (talk) 21:52, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I took the time to scout out the position the previous photograph was taken.... Atop the New Orleans Center garage (7th floor). I took this using my iPhone4, and cropped it with MS Photo Editor. Hope everything is acceptable. Please study the picture, there are many differences that prove this is not the same photo, and it is my own. Sorry to cause you more work the first time, hope this one keeps. -Nwill21 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nwill21 (talkcontribs) 23:43, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I presume you're talking about File:Superdome from Garage.jpg. It looks fine to me. No, it's fine to take photos from the same location/angle as someone else. (I did get down to Poydras Street last week and took a couple of photos, but the light was in the wrong direction for me to get something good. Good for you doing it first.) Hi Infrogmation,

I've been working on a few NOLA-related articles lately – went to Tulane for undergrad: you can take the girl out of New Orleans, but you can't take the New Orleans out of the girl :) – and I wondered if you could help me out with this one. I've been trying to hunt down as many online sources as possible, but I'm sure the bulk is offline. I noticed you added in the bit about The Second Line to the article on the parade style (way back in 2005!) and thought you might have some additional sources at your disposal. I don't know much about the magazine or the club, but I'd be very happy to learn. Please let me know if you have any leads! Thanks muchly, Accedietalk to me 03:56, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the bulk is not on line. I first suggested to them putting more material including old back issues online back in the 1990s, and again offered to help doing so after Katrina, but was never taken up on it. I'm glad to see they've finally gotten a start in that direction. I have a fair collection of old back issues. Thanks for getting the article started! Request for Review

[edit]

Dear Infrogmation, As someone knowledgeable about New Orleans, would you be willing to review the article I started on Charles L. Dufour? He's better known as "Pie Dufour" to New Orleanians. When I first created this article and requested review (not from anybody with specific knowledge of New Orleans), the notability and references were called into question. I've since upgraded the article significantly. If you believe that this article merits notability, please remove the banner that calls into question notability. If you however also question notability, please suggest what I might do to better address the issue. And, of course, any other edits are most welcome. If you are unable to conduct this review, please suggest how I might obtain a review by someone knowledgeable about New Orleans. Many thanks, Nolabob (talk) 12:57, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look and made some small edits. I don't know much about Pie Dufour beyond having read a few of his works and that he certainly is notable in Greater New Orleans and as a writer about New Orleans. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 19:08, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks, Infrogmation. I appreciate your edits. Nolabob (talk) 19:22, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Holy Cross High School (New Orleans)

[edit]

Hello - I see you removed the deletion notice from Holy Cross High School (New Orleans). I was trying to move Holy Cross High School, New Orleans there, as standard disambiguation, but it wouldn't let me. I thought I was following the directions at WP:RM#Requesting technical moves, where it says: "If the only obstacle to a technical move is a navigation aid (e.g., a redirect or an unnecessary disambiguation page with a minor edit history), you may add the following code to the top of the page that is in the way: {{db-move|page to be moved here|reason for move}} This will list the page for deletion under criterion for speedy deletion G6. If the page is a redirect, place the code above the redirection. ". Is this not a way to make that move happen? Thanks. Dohn joe (talk) 20:27, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much to Peridon, who no-wikied my accidental addition of the deletion template to this talk page. Yikes! Dohn joe (talk) 21:07, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As I hope you've noticed, I put an explanation of my action on your talk page after I did it. As to moving the page, see Wikipedia:Moving a page and Wikipedia:Requested moves. Especially for pages that have been at locations for some time (as opposed to a newly created obvious typo, for example), I strongly suggest bringing the proposed move up on the article's talk page and waiting for feedback before doing the move. (If there is consensus to retitle the article, I'd be happy to assist with the technical part as an admin if needed.) Thanks for your attention. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:31, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I did see your note on my page (after I added this section here - sorry for splitting things up unnecessarily). I generally agree with you as to page move protocol, but here it seemed so minor (substituting parentheses for a comma where the vast majority of similar pages also use parentheses) that an official move request seemed like overkill - especially when the directions on the move request page seemed to apply. Was I out of line? Dohn joe (talk) 21:49, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call you "out of line"; I just prefer to precede more cautiously when moving long existing articles. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:40, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note, I fixed the move. You can fix the link to commons. Those links do not show up like the other links so they are more difficult to find and fix. Since any editor can do that, better to leave that for everyone else to cleanup. This might be a good suggestion for a bot. Review page moves and make sure that the commons links in the article are still correct. Vegaswikian (talk) 02:25, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks much, I think it's all good now. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 02:27, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NOLA H20

[edit]

Infrogmation -- I heard a rumor that at one time in the last 75 years, water used to exist near the superdome that connected to Lake Pontchartrain. Would this have been Bayou St. John? Or am I way off? Will you kindly suggest a reference where I could do some homework? This elderly gentleman swears that natural water used to exist within this city that has since been dried either naturally or by man. I am having trouble finding evidence... Leroy E. Brown (talk) 00:07, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For a natural body of water, 75 years ago, no. 175 years ago, certainly; see my comment to your query at talk:Bayou St. John. However in the early 20th century there were many open drainage canals in the city. Actually many are still there, they've just been deepened then covered over -- many major streets with wide neutral grounds like Claiborne Avenue and Broad had open canals, since put out of sight. -- Infrogmation (talk) 16:26, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is very interesting information Infrogmation! Thank you!! Just a layman's guess, that these canals were created to harness the Bayou's natural forces. Then again, man is not always so intuitive. So, if these canals are still there, how have they been covered over? Concrete, Iron, dirt? I wonder why they'd cover them. Leroy E. Brown (talk) 18:52, 3 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that what I have been babbling about is the New Basin Canal... Leroy E. Brown (talk) 06:55, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I know there has been a lot of documentation on user Billy Hathorn's use of images. And he's blocked, so I can't address this to him directly. I'm working on creating a Wikipedia article for the Zaragoza Birthplace State Historic Site. Firstly, I saw this Google Book link and photo:skip to Page 237 if you can link to this. This is a photo of the Zaragoza statue at the birthplace in Goliad, which is by the site's amphitheater. The only other Zaragosa statue I see in that book is in Dallas. That doesn't mean another doesn't exist in Texas. But here's this Hathorn photo from Commons. It's the exact same statue standing in front of what looks like an amphitheater. And Hathorn has attributed it to San Agustin Plaza in Laredo, Texas. I was just going to request a file name change over on Commons. But it occurred to me that a Texas-based photographer would know whether or not he was in Laredo, or in Goliad. Maybe you can advise on this. I'd like to use the photo. But if the copyright is in question, maybe other action is required. I've not dealt with the copyright issue before. Let me know, thanks. Maile66 (talk) 16:54, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in New Orleans, not Texas, and have no personal knowledge about the question, sorry. -- Infrogmation (talk) 20:34, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear Infrogmation,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:02, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:PrettyBabyLPBack.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:PrettyBabyLPBack.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 00:11, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Carinval" in the US?

[edit]

The recent move of this category to Category:Carinval in the United States (Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2012 February 18#Category:Carnival of the United States) contains a misspelling, should be "carnival". I was gonna just move it, but didn't see a button anywhere. Since you're an admin, think you can move it to the correct spelling? Cheers, Heiro 20:40, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This file, and the caption in article Hobo, do not state the date of the photo. The reason this may be important is that languages change with time, and Hobo Signage is a language (a very interesting one, too, since its motivations and value are clear). If you can reconstruct the date of taking this photo, I believe that adding it to the file and the article would be of value now and of increasing value into the future. A Web search shows that this is a very rare topic in photography. Thank you for contributing it. David Spector (user/talk) 17:25, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mardi Gras Indians

[edit]

Dear Infrogmation,

This is Glenn Smith of New Orleans. Sorry about the post on your blog -- I have now discovered the proper way to do things. A very dear friend of mine, who went on to teach ethnomusicology at UCLA, wrote his Tulane PhD dissertation on the Mardi Gras Indians; and rather than simply modifying the Wikipedia article on same to add a reference to this dissertation, I am hoping to gain the permission, and perhaps involvement, of the Wikipedia volunteers who maintain it. My email address is gsmith@space-machines.com; or perhaps you will be responding here?

Hi. Knowlegable people who want to improve Wikipedia content are very welcome! Editing Wikipedia articles is fairly easy. Check out Wikipedia:Welcome. I strongly reccomend anyone interested in doing any serious editing choose a user name and Log in (set up a user account -- not required but helpful in various ways including discussing with other users (such as we are doing here on my user talk page). If you have further specific questions, feel free to ask. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 00:04, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Substing User Talk Templates

[edit]

Hi there! When using certain templates on talk pages, such as welcome templates and user warnings, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:welcome}} instead of {{welcome}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. If you need any further help on the matter just ask me on my talk page. Cheers.·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 01:44, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I hope that you do not object, however, I am making a good faith, bold edit, and my objective is to improve the appearance of your talk page by converting your comment at the top to a better-looking, template, which is usually used on user talk pages. initially i have been vocally objecting to sovied file deletion, but then reconsidered. legal issues aside, please take a look at the post-soviet copyright issue in this way: most soviet people have been robbed by the state "for the good of the whole soviet people" and I see it quite unfair for them to be robbed even symbolically of what's left for whatever other noble slogans. - Altenmann >t 14:37, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your feedback. I certainly sympathize, and certainly don't wish to rob anybody. (A counter argument comes to mind that a single low-res fair use example of an artist's work on Wikipedia might increase rather than decrease commercial value, since it will alert many people who would otherwise be ignorant of the existence of the artist to the work and some may be motivated to find commercial prints or books -- but that is perhaps a different discussion tangent.) In any case, I have listed the image on files for deletion discussion Wikipedia:Files_for_deletion/2012_June_7#File:Poster35.jpg, since your concerns seem broader than a matter of template and I wish to get feedback from others. Thanks again. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 14:58, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I started an article on this bakery and just added the photos you took after I found them on Commons. Thanks! Candleabracadabra (talk) 19:37, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I organized the images on Commons into a category (per the name on the front of the building) and that in the article. I notice the article has been contested for lack of notability. I'm not sure one way or another in this case; certainly "notable" in Greater New Orleans, but that's not the same as the criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) which you might wish to check out if you wish to contest or modify the listing. Thanks for your work. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 20:31, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to the sources already in the article, there are loads of sources with substantial coverage on Google Books. It's obviously a landmark of great significance. I'm not sure why some editors are hell bent on deleting independent and small businesses no matter how noteworthy. Candleabracadabra (talk) 20:50, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen this word used to refer to the type of bread loaf used for banh mi and some other submarine style sandwiches, but the article about it covers it as a stuffed bread. What gives? Is the word used differently in N.O.? Candleabracadabra (talk) 17:17, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. I'm only familiar with the use as a small bread loaf. Next time I speak to a friend who spent some years in Lafayette if she's aware of any difference in usage there. Sorry, that's all I can say at present. -- Infrogmation (talk) 17:42, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I threw it all together in the article pending it being sorted out. How about boudin balls? There's even a pic on commons...Candleabracadabra (talk) 20:11, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"How about boudin balls?" Sounds good to me, you offering to treat? :-) Note Wikipedia does have an article on boudin using a photo of some Cajun boudin balls. (Something more you think should be added there?) Bon appetit! -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:27, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect helps. Thanks! Candleabracadabra (talk) 22:19, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I asked my friend; she's only familiar with the small bread loaf definition and only recalls seeing them in the Greater New Orleans area. She added that she can't say for sure about in the Lafayette area, just that she doesn't recall them there. -- Infrogmation (talk) 14:46, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In Lafayette they are definitely a small stuffed bread, often stuffed with crawfish, or other goodies. Heiro 15:09, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'll tell her to look for them next time she goes back. And I'll do the same next time I'm passing through that area! -- Infrogmation (talk) 18:59, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You wont regret it! They are available at almost any little gas station/convenience store in the area, along with boudin, fried chicken and other assorted local goodies that are often better tasting than similar food from an actual restaurant, lol. Heiro

What is, or is not, happening to Amtrak's New Orleans Jacksonville service? It appears to be a permanent victim of Hurricane Katrina. Peter Horn User talk 12:51, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. From what I can see, I think you're correct. The Gulf Coast route east of New Orleans through Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Gulf Coast seems simply gone with no sign of return. -- Infrogmation (talk) 13:42, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Antoine's photos

[edit]

What would you think about (1) replacing the current infobox photo of Antoine's with another photo that shows the restaurant in a less damaged light, perhaps this one, and (2) using the Katrina-damage photo in the Katrina section of the article? Since they're both your work, I didn't want to make any swap without asking you first (and maybe you have a better idea). Best, --Arxiloxos (talk) 03:27, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking, but feel free to use whatever available photo we have that you think has the best illustrative value. I suspect that photo had been illustrating the article since shortly after Katrina when it was still current news, and simply hasn't been updated. Hi Infrogmation. I removed the SubGenii category from Nancy A. Collins's article because there's no reference to the church in the article. While it may be true that she's a member, it's not supported by reliable sources in the body of the article. Pburka (talk) 21:45, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just added a ref to that -- at a link already in the article. Note "Nanzi Regalia" or "Nanzi X. Regalia" is/was her "SubGenius" pseudonym, and "Love's Throbbing Bob" is a SubGenius story. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:50, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's a pretty obscure way to document things. If her religion is sufficiently notable to deserve categorization it ought to be in the article body, in my opinion. I also note that the article's text doesn't support her categorization as an author of erotica. Without support, such a claim could be considered contentious per WP:BLP. Wikitravel/Wikivoyage/WMF Travel Guide

[edit]

Just checking to see if you're aware of the proposal to move Wikitravel content over to a new Wikimedia-run travel guide (see Meta:Travel Guide). There is currently an open RfC for people to state their support or opposition. Due to ongoing issues with the IB-run Wikitravel site (spambots, lack of patrolling, security bugs, etc) there is also a more immediate proposal to move Wikitravel content over to Wikivoyage as a precursor to the bigger move to WMF (Wikivoyage is also interested in joining the WMF). You may want to read the Migration FAQ on the Wikivoyage site that explains the whole situation in greater detail. Eco84 | Talk 21:25, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NRHP sites in NO

[edit]

Wow! I hadn't noticed that nearly all the photos have been uploaded. Thank you.

I love fully-illustrated lists for NRHP sites. Just to make sure folks can find the 8 remaining unphotographed sites, I've included them at Talk:National Register of Historic Places listings in Orleans Parish, Louisiana.

A couple of suggestions on completing the last few. The Big Oaks- Little Oaks site is listed as "address restricted". If there is any chance that the site would be looted or otherwise damaged by showing a photo on Wikipedia, we generally put up an "address restricted" graphic instead of a photo. Or get pix of artifacts from the site, or just a pic of the very general area.

If some of the remaining sites have been destroyed, we often just get a pic of the empty lot - which let's people know that there is nothing else to take a photo of.

The ship Tucumseh may be the hardest to get a photo of. If it's not there, perhaps there's info on where it went, or an old photo.

Let me know if you need any help (from Philly).

BTW - the Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest is coming up Sept. 1-30. Please see http://wikilovesmonuments.us/ Please help out!

Photo of Old London/Westminister/London Bridge

[edit]

Hello,

My name is Mark Black and I am an associate producer with a television show called Forensic Firsts on the Smithsonian Channel.

In one of our episodes we are looking at the history of criminal profiling. Obviously Dr. Thomas Bond and the case of Jack the Ripper plays a role in that. We'd like to use the photo you uploaded of Westminister in our timeline. I was wondering who the originating source for the photo of Westminister is (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Westminster.jpg) and how you were able to determine that the item was in the public domain. We would like to use it in our show if at all possible.

Thanks, Mark Black

I scanned that a decade ago from an original stereo card in my own collection. I don't recall the reason for PD off hand; 'm guessing that it was simply a matter of US printing of pre-1920s date. Crat statement draft

[edit]

Hi Following the drama at BN, I'm trying to come up with a statement all Crats could agree to. Please take a look, below. I am quite content to do this onwiki -we have always worked transparently, except where secrecy is essential (ie RTV). I think we should be able to wordsmith a statement acceptable to all, and I think it's an important thing to do.

  1. In my opinion, this issue has come about through an unfortunate proliferation of documentation: policy, guideline, how-to etc
  2. I am not convinced that there is community consensus on all of the points encapsulated in those various pages
  3. I am unhappy at what may be described as some or all of: inconsistencies, inaccuracies or lack of clarity in that documentation
  4. I do not believe that any of the issues we have faced have been caused by Crats trying to widen their powers
  5. I would like to see the issues clarified, based on consensus, and for the documentation to be updated accordingly
  6. I'd like to thank Griot-de for generously withdrawing the rename request

Signed [crat sig] Lmk what you think. Many thanks, --Dweller (talk) 11:10, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Indian30.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Indian30.jpg.

Really needing your help again

[edit]

Hey! Although I've uploaded at least 2,000 photos of musicians with Creative Commons licenses], I never really understood the whole ORTS (OTRS?) thing, how to get or use it in Commons. There's an exceptional photographer who took photos of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young during their 2006-2007 tour. Each member of the band has one of his photos on their individual biography page, but I forgot to check for watermarks and frames. Now, I know that as a bureaucrat, slumming it with media people might not be the most exciting job, but if you can't remove those eyesores, maybe will you might refer the problem to another editor who can help? The other reason --the biggest one, is that when I mentioned "no watermarks" on photos, he emailed me an amazing photo of all four on stage-- (much better than what we have now) without a watermark, but I am unqualified to upload a photo sent to me, even though the photo is properly licensed on the Flickr page where I originally discovered it here: [7] but it contains that watermark. It, too, is licensed properly, but the watermark is still on it. Please -can I email the photo he emailed me so it can be uploaded properly to Commons? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 17:27, 10 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Hey Brah-- I keep coming up with (a surprising array of) things that I'm sure I could learn quickly- and thus, save time! I think learning how to approach and fix some things-- especially within the miasma in Commons would once or twice, would help immensely. I know very little about most things, and am hoping you will help me. Lately, some of the few best editors have become burned out, and I know that feeling. But what I'm trying to ask you-- please, will adopt me? I think a lot of it would be easy to explain to me on those occasions when I do need your help, since I've had years of editing the Wikipedia. Also I would like to make suggestions as to certain procedures to improve them-- if it's like the community portal, I'm scared to get my feet wet! Please answer on my talk page? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 04:11, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Public schools in Garden District

Hello - I've made an edit under the entry for Buddy Bolden, under the Fiction in Bolden section, providing an external link for Chasing the Devil's Tail. I notice that you reverted the changes done by another user to this same paragraph and wanted to find out the reason for the reversion and whether it might apply to the edit I've made. I'm a new user so I want to make sure I'm making an appropriate edit. Thank you.

Other Commons curiosities

[edit]

Heya bra- What do you make of this [9]? I bumped into it, and never saw the like before! Can you, or somebody else fix it? Please leave me a note on my en.Wikipedia talk page, OK? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 15:10, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree it looks to be some sort of "curiosity". However I don't speak Polish, so I'll refrain from addressing it. You could bring it to the attention to one of the Commons admins who speaks Polish (and also English so they could understand your question). See Commons:List_of_administrators_by_language for the list ("pl" and "en" for Polish and English). Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 16:08, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for writing in English. I'm writing to ask you, as a bureaucrat of this wiki, to translate and review the notification that will be sent to all users, also on this wiki, who will be forced to change their user name on May 27 and will probably need your help with renames. Really needing your help once more!

[edit]

Hi Brother Infrogmation! A friend of mine, and professional photographer recently tried uploading photos herself to Commons. In the past, she has donated dozens of photos for use on Wikipedia, (one notable one is currently in the infobox of Jeff Beck). Apparently the good people in Commons think the five files are just "taken off the internet" and deleted them. The pics are of The Atlantics and of Martin Cilia. I had a look at The Atlantics- atrociously unreferenced article, which I am hoping to clean up. Her name is Mandy Hall and I know she finally registered, as I saw her name in the edit history of The Atlantics, placing the new photo, only to have it removed. The files in Commons are:

  • File:Martin-Cilia-band-02-WEB.jpg
  • File:The-Atlantics-WEB-3987.jpg
  • File:2013-Martin-Cilia-WEB.jpg
  • File:2011-Martin-Cilia-WEB.jpg
  • File:The Atlantics 2013.jpg

Can you help us? What can be done? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 14:22, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rings on her fingers ...

[edit]

In Ahab the Arab you attributed without ref the "rings on her fingers and bells on her toes" lyric to a 1909 song in which "my" stands twice in place of "her". But Catalogue of Modern Wood-engravings cites "With rings on her fingers, And bells on her toes." from an 1884 picture book's version of Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross, whose current standard version has not only "with" as the last preceding word but also "and" as the next following. Unless you have evidence that is better than what got into the article, i suggest demoting that change's substance to a footnote (if not removing it completely), and saying that Stevens's lyric "echoes" or "evokes" the Banbury-Cross version.

[edit]

Dear Infrogmation, thanks for giving me that warm and personal 'Welcome'. I suspect you of having kind of a 'Welcome'-bot, though. Excuse me, if I'm wrong. I simply cannot imagine you being not too busy to welcome every new contributor in person. At first, it felt a little bit awkward, actually. I'm relatively new to the Internet and Wikipedia. The digital world until now seemed so anonymous to me. I haven't been an active part of any social network (e.g. facebook). Suddenly I got the impression of being watched (which probably is really a good thing regarding the purposes of Wikipedia). Due to its rather liberal and democratic conception, Wikipedia could easily become the target of vandals, humorists, or forgers. For the most part, I guess, you're having to deal with well-meaning, low-witted Newbies like myself. Thus, it's probably a good idea to show people they're not on their own out here on planet library. And that everything is a matter of cause and effect on this level of reality...You have been a pioneer in the realm of Wikipedia, working here for more than eleven years. I can see you have an interest in Maya archaeology. You seem to be a man of high intelligence, vast knowledge, rooted in a good deal of common sense. You're probably not liable to flattery. I'm trying to be a jazz - musician, too. I'm going to visit the WikiProject Jazz, soon. Yours, sincerly,

A tag has been placed on File:Goltzius-Bologna.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. An important message about renaming users

[edit]

Dear Infrogmation,

I am cross-posting this message to many places to make sure everyone who is a Wikimedia Foundation project bureaucrat receives a copy. If you are a bureaucrat on more than one wiki, you will receive this message on each wiki where you are a bureaucrat.

As you may have seen, work to perform the Wikimedia cluster-wide single-user login finalisation (SUL finalisation) is taking place. This may potentially effect your work as a local bureaucrat, so please read this message carefully.

Why is this happening? As currently stated at the global rename policy, a global account is a name linked to a single user across all Wikimedia wikis, with local accounts unified into a global collection. Previously, the only way to rename a unified user was to individually rename every local account. This was an extremely difficult and time-consuming task, both for stewards and for the users who had to initiate discussions with local bureaucrats (who perform local renames to date) on every wiki with available bureaucrats. The process took a very long time, since it's difficult to coordinate crosswiki renames among the projects and bureaucrats involved in individual projects.

The SUL finalisation will be taking place in stages, and one of the first stages will be to turn off Special:RenameUser locally. This needs to be done as soon as possible, on advice and input from Stewards and engineers for the project, so that no more accounts that are unified globally are broken by a local rename to usurp the global account name. Once this is done, the process of global name unification can begin. The date that has been chosen to turn off local renaming and shift over to entirely global renaming is 15 September 2014, or three weeks time from now. In place of local renames is a new tool, hosted on Meta, that allows for global renames on all wikis where the name is not registered will be deployed.

Your help is greatly needed during this process and going forward in the future if, as a bureaucrat, renaming users is something that you do or have an interest in participating in. The Wikimedia Stewards have set up, and are in charge of, a new community usergroup on Meta in order to share knowledge and work together on renaming accounts globally, called Global renamers. Stewards are in the process of creating documentation to help global renamers to get used to and learn more about global accounts and tools and Meta in general as well as the application format. As transparency is a valuable thing in our movement, the Stewards would like to have at least a brief public application period. If you are an experienced renamer as a local bureaucrat, the process of becoming a part of this group could take as little as 24 hours to complete. You, as a bureaucrat, should be able to apply for the global renamer right on Meta by the requests for global permissions page on 1 September, a week from now.

In the meantime please update your local page where users request renames to reflect this move to global renaming, and if there is a rename request and the user has edited more than one wiki with the name, please send them to the request page for a global rename.

Stewards greatly appreciate the trust local communities have in you and want to make this transition as easy as possible so that the two groups can start working together to ensure everyone has a unique login identity across Wikimedia projects. Completing this project will allow for long-desired universal tools like a global watchlist, global notifications and many, many more features to make work easier.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns about the SUL finalisation, read over the Help:Unified login page on Meta and leave a note on the talk page there, or on the talk page for global renamers. You can also contact me on my talk page on meta if you would like. I'm working as a bridge between Wikimedia Foundation Engineering and Product Development, Wikimedia Stewards, and you to assure that SUL finalisation goes as smoothly as possible; this is a community-driven process and I encourage you to work with the Stewards for our communities.

Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) talk 18:24, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Undiscussed move?

[edit]

The article Captain Midnight (HBO) is clearly about the event, not the person. You obviously missed this on the talk page where an editor proposed moving the article to a title like this. Qxukhgiels (talk) 21:49, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I not only didn't miss that discussion, I participated in it as reading it will show. Your move is a different one than the one previously discussed and closed without a move. I have no inherent opposition to your proposed renaming if consensus is that your title is more accurate, but please make a fresh proposal, thanks. The article has been at the current title for a good number of years and has many incoming links, hence move should be proposed for discussion first IMO. Thanks.

Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:54, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
