Block on 131.10.254.62
[edit]Late last month you blocked that IP address for a month, I've just unblocked it due to the fact that it's a proxy that covers at least one entire military base (Barksdale AFB), so an entire month is slightly excessive. If people continue to vandalize from DOD ip addresses feel free to have someone from the foundation contact the DOD and let them know what's going on... the DOD has their own way of handling that. Thanks! (I won't be coming back to look for a reply... so send me an email if you do reply.) — Coffee // have a cup // essay // 13:52, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Louisiana State Penitentiary
[edit]Hey! Do you know if anyone has a photo of the front entrance of Louisiana State Penitentiary that you or a friend has and is willing to upload? Louisiana State Penitentiary needs a free image of its front entrance uploaded. Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 07:34, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

ARC Records as American Record Company
[edit]I'm not sure how actively you monitor ARC Records and American Record Company, or how involved you wish to be with the issue, but I wanted to be sure you know that I've become persuaded there is nothing incorrect about the name "American Record Company" for ARC (note that I have to say "nothing incorrect" rather than refer to certain truths, however). I've been doing my best to make modest improvements to reflect my imperfect but improving understanding (laid out at Talk:American Record Corporation). I intend to move American Record Corporation to ARC Records after an interval, if there is no reasoned opposition. Please do comment if you have any reservations, evidence, or other ideas. Dingbats?
[edit]So, I'm feeling a little confused. I've been looking at File:DingbatPoem.jpg and I can't see any dingbats. Am I blind? Where should I be looking? My concern here is not only for my poor eyesight, but also that it might not be a great illustration of dingbat usage if a shmoe like me can't see the dingbats. Cheers,--Aervanath (talk) 16:33, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Bottom left, bottom right, bottom center: Pretty much everything visible in that image that isn't letters is a dingbat. Infrogmation (talk) 17:21, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Oh. I was expecting to see them in the text, as in a dingbat font (e.g. Wingdings). I've clarified the caption a little in the article. Thanks!--Aervanath (talk) 07:18, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Fauborg Marigny
[edit]Hey Infrogmation! I found File:Faubourg-MarignySign.JPG in Fauborg Marigny a while ago, but I forgot to photograph the French side. Would it be alright if you photographed the French side of the sign? - It is next to the New Orleans Engine 9 Station (at File:Engine9NewOrleansLA.JPG) WhisperToMe (talk) 20:31, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, I photographed the other side of the sign and uploaded the pic. However it is in English as well. File:Faubourg-MarignySign Downtown SIde.jpg. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 20:59, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

Original Dixieland Jass Band
[edit]Greetings. You made some erasures of material I had put into the article on Original Dixieland Jass Band. One had to do with their having recorded with Columbia in 1917 in the Woolworth Building in NYC. I think I can understand your point about the possible perceivable tangential nature of the material in the article. Thanks. But I've had some trouble with sources (books, etc.) on this matter. Some books say the ODJB made the first jazz recording with Columbia in 1917. Others seem to say they made one with Victor and then the next with Columbia. I haven't reached a consensus view yet even from reliable reference sources. I'll keep plugging away on it. Best wishes. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 15:40, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- I hope Infrogmation forgives me for jumping in and answering on his talk page, but here are a couple of links to articles that make it pretty clear that the Columbia recording date pre-dating the earliest Victor sessions by the ODJB is nowadays regarded as a discographical mistake: [1] [2]. /FredrikT (talk) 14:08, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, Columbia Records matrix numbers, clearly visible in original pressings of the shellac discs, were given out in chronological order. They show the issued Columbia sides were recorded AFTER the issued Victors. I believe this was established in record collector and discography circles some 30 or more years ago, and is undisputed by those who research the topic. This unfortunately hasn't prevented the continued repetition of the discredited claim from generations ago that the Columbias predated the Victors. Infrogmation (talk) 21:44, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, all. Bests. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 01:21, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

- Marrero, Algiers, and Metarie are areas I expect to pass through sometime within the next month or so. Bridge City I don't get to often, but I'll see what happens. I'll copy this list and hope to have at least some of these in not to long. Infrogmation (talk) 20:42, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Infrogmation. I'm interested in using this drawing (which you uploaded on your Commons account) by Dumont de Montigny for the article about him, but it doesn't look like it's really in the public domain. I saw a notice of copyright at the bottom of the page here. I really do hope it's free material so I can use it but where did it say so? Thanks, Jsayre64 (talk) 14:49, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- The copyright applies to the website as a whole. Note that works by de Montigny or other artists who died more than 200 years ago are in the public domain, and mechanical reproductions of copyright expired works do not generate fresh copyrights. Thus the original image remains in the public domain, even when it is reused within a copyrighted newer work such as that web site. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 20:38, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- That's good! I didn't know. Thanks for your time, Jsayre64 (talk) 01:08, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Nomination of Chocoholism for deletion
[edit]A discussion has begun about whether the article Chocoholism, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chocoholism until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.
You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Horologium (talk) 18:10, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:HappyStation1988.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:HappyStation1988.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:58, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi Infrogmation, I added more links and worked on the style of this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_LaCroix, were I believe you added tags for improvement. Orphaned non-free image File:LowellThomasGoodEveningEverybody.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:LowellThomasGoodEveningEverybody.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 06:50, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

edit summaries
[edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Portland Rose Festival. Repeated vandalism of the article on Covington, Louisiana.
[edit]Several times over the last few days, the article on Covington, LA has been vandalized by an anonymous user at IP address 71.81.49.131. Hollygrove boundaries
[edit]I recently changed the boundaries of Hollygrove, New Orleans to reflect those provided by the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center. The old boundaries were listed as being defined by the New Orleans Planning Commission, but the reference links to GNOCDC. GNOCDC explains that while some of their boundaries are Planning Commission demarcations, not all of them are. Do you have any online sources that show the boundaries from the 1980 Planning Commission report? If none are available, I think the GNOCDC data should be what is included in the article. What are your thoughts? 5oh4 (talk) 04:00, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- At a minimum, I think the incorrect citation for the planning commission boundaries should be removed and replaced with a "needs citation" template. 5oh4 (talk) 04:02, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

They are:
- "Angola Inmate Cited by ABA," Morning Advocate, Baton Rouge, LA,July 17, 1979, 7-A
- "Inmate plagiarism suit dismissed." The Advocate. February 13, 1991.
- "Dwight Ott, "The Wordman of Angola: Stranded in 'The Jungle,' He Writes..." New Orleans Times Picayune. October 5, 1975, Section One, Page Two.</ref> "
- "Angola: Louisiana's Sore That Won't Heal," and "Imprisonment: Steel, Concrete Jungle," and "Veterans in Prison are Nation's Orphans," all July 2, 1975 in the The Shreveport Journal
If they are available, please e-mail them to me:

Jim Garrison
[edit]Could you specify what was unclear about my edit summary? It's pretty clear that the work of conspiracy theorist Jim Marrs doesn't meet RS criteria. Should not the burden of proof be on those wishing to insert this material to demonstrate that it adheres to Wikipedia rules and guidelines? Gamaliel (talk) 20:29, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
- It looked to me like there were 2 issues with the edit I undid [3]. The first removed what looked like a reference to a published work citing page number replacing it with a "citation needed". (I'm making no judgment as to if the work is "reliable" per Wikipedia guidelines, but would suggest that if you think it's a problem source a short explanation on the article talk page and/or alerting the editor who added the citation of what exactly the problem is might be helpful, as it looked likely to be a good faith attempt to add a citation to me.) The second issue is was that your edit removed a request for citation on an unsourced broad but specific claim lower in the article. I hope this helps explain my action. For issues related to the article and specific sources, I suggest taking discussion to the relevant article talk page where other editors interested in the topic can view and discuss. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 20:56, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- I thought I had left the fact tag you placed in the article, but I've just looked at the diffs and it shows that I did remove it. I meant to preserve it in my edit, but it appears I just thought about it and didn't follow through. Thanks for clearing that up and I've made sure that I didn't make the same mistake with my latest edit. Gamaliel (talk) 22:00, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Nordskog Records
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Nordskog Records requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I said that was violation when you did not read my statement that all messages must be in comment area, not under photographes area. I do not read your message due to unfair reason when you did not follow my statement about comments and photograph. There is your message back. If you want to post the message, do it in my comment area, not under photographes area. (Cculber007)(talk) 16:59, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi. What is the source for your saying that File:Bayesjack.jpg is from a poster for the Acousticon Hour in this edit of yours? Since the photo of the two seems to be from a dozen + years earlier and the visible text mentions Keith's but not the Acousticon this seems very surprising to me. Thanks in advance for your reply. - Hi. I added the question to you at the bottom of your talk page, which has been the standard place to communicate with other Wikipedians since the early days of the project. If you refuse to abide by the general practice, I suggest you state exactly where messages to you should go as clearly and succinctly as possible in big letters at the top of your talk page. As to the issue, research by other Wikipedians have already shown your claim to be false, and it was already removed from the article, so that point is now moot. re: Larry Harvey
[edit]Hi Infrogmation:
Thanks for your friendly note. I'm not entirely new to editing on wikipedia, though I often don't have the time to be as thorough as I'd like. I have read the tutorial pages before and over again... always learning, again thanks.
Your wikipedia entry for Larry Harvey is confusing and more about burning man than Larry's contributions to it. Perhaps this would be more appropriate on the Burning Man page. I will reenter my edit with my own wording, instead of copy and pasting, I gather that was your objection. My main desire is to fill in what Larry has contributed, as well as his current role, seeing he is still the "executive director."
The wdydwyd photo seems an out-take shot, not a well rounded single feature photo to represent a persons bio. The Scott Beale photo has full permissions by the photographer to be used on this page. It seems more compatible as a quality wikipedia BLP representation.
The links you added are cool and add more perspective, but its interesting how they contradict your entry by sighting Larry as thee founder, where you only mention that he merely created the "symbol.. what latter became known as the burning man festival," seeming to downplay his involvement.
I don't know if it may have been your intention, but your edits seem to imply that Larry may not deserve credit as the events founder. If this is not the case, then please assist in sighting his contributions. If it is, maybe there could be a Controversy section, if indeed there is one over the founding credits.
From my perspective, being one of the founding members myself, is that Larry deserves the founder title and there are many contributors with many levels of contributions, including myself.

PS. hope I'm posting this in the right place to reply to your note to me.
- Replying on my talk page is fine. (Replying on your page where I left you the note would also have been fine. For discussion aimed at anyone who might be interested in improvements in a particular article, the talk page for that article is usually the best place.) Yes, the big problem was "copy and pasted" text from other websites. If a websites has good info, add a link to it in the article's "external links" section, don't copy someone else's words into the article. As to the photo, note that for Wikimedia purposes a free licensed photo isn't just one the author has given permission to be used on a particular page, but rather one that the author has released under a general free license -- allowing it to reused in multiple contexts under minimal restrictions (such as requiring the photographer be credited). Creative Commons general license or Creative Commons share-alike license are the most popular licenses used in Wikimedia (see Commons:Commons:Licensing for much more info). The photo you had uploaded earlier was under a "Non Commercial" restriction, which the Wikimedia legal team determined can't be used for various reasons (eg, couldn't be used in a printed out or cd copy of Wikipedia for which money was charged, etc). If you can get the photographer to agree to license a photo under a free license without a non-commercial only restriction, that would be great. Thanks for your time and reply. re:Evanescence Photo
[edit]Hello. I would like to make it clear that the photo has nothing to do if I like it or not. Im just trying to keep the information up to date with a recent photo of the band and it is driving me crazy that no one else is willing to keep things up to date. I like the photo that is currently on the page, but it is out dated. 2 of the members are no longer in the band. Again, Im just trying to keep the information up to date. Im going to stop adding photos for the time being since this is causing a bigger problem then what I thought it was going to be. -- Rob.ahrns —Preceding undated comment added 16:04, 2 August 2011 (UTC).
- More up to date is fine. Again, the problem is that you were uploading different photos OVER other peoples' photos (instead of as different files) and replacing images which were shared under free licenses by the photographers with copyrighted images taken off the web. -- Infrogmation (talk) 18:32, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Pride and sorrow
[edit]Hello, I reverted your alteration of the Morphy lead, but wanted to say why. I actually agree with your change, but there's no support for it in the body! But I only just noticed you also previously commented on that very lack of support. I gave a more detailed reasoning in the talk page. Thanks, BashBrannigan (talk) 23:13, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Image copyright violation
[edit]Sad to say, but it looks like the photos of Ron Carter on the en.Wiki appear to be copyright violations. There are three photos. The photo in the infobox leads to a link in Commons that takes you to a Flickr photo page with a distinct copyright mark. The second photo leads to a German website which appears to be the German version of Carter's own website, or perhaps an album page... nothing about photos, photographers, or permission. The last photo was one from User:Mind meal, surprisingly enough, who I've noticed also attempts to add musicians' photos to their biographies, albeit on a much smaller scale than I do. The trouble with that last photo is that when people move photos from one Wikipedia to Wikimedia, it's difficult to comprehend where it came from in the first place!! So, please help. I'm coming to you as to an Admin. I just can't fathom what people are thinking because it takes only a few.. ah, indiscretions to completely derail the Wikipedia, and maybe even lose part or all of it. Thanks. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 23:23, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, let's look at the photos you mention one at a time:
- 1) File:Ron Carter photo 1.jpg was copied from Flickr. You are correct that the photo on Flickr is now licensed as all rights reserved. However note that it was confirmed to be free licensed when it was uploaded in 2008 (relevent edit; and the image page on Commons also has "Flickr images reviewed by FlickreviewR"); policy is that change of license after the fact on Flickr is not a reason for deletion if the image was previously free licensed by the author. (Note also that the photographer on Flickr has added to the caption "my photo on the English Wikipedia :)", showing they're aware it's here and giving a good suggestion they are not unhappy about it.) Looks ok to me.
- 2) File:Ron plays.JPG was uploaded to Commons by User:Kku as their own work. The link to the German website looks to me to be provided for information about the Ron Carter Quartet. The website link is not listed as a source. The photo on Commons is not seen at that link. I don't see how that is relevant to copyright nor how anyone's permission is needed for something. User:Kku says they are the photographer, that the photo was taken at a public performance, and that Kku as author of the photo is sharing it under a free license. Presuming this is so, this one looks fine to me as well. If you have reason to think Kku's claim of authorship is false, please specify it.
- 3) File:Ron Carter.JPG was not "from User:Mind meal", Mind meal merely transfered it from here to Commons. I have adjusted the wording on the Commons image description to make that clearer. (The bots people use to transfer images are by nature dumb, and people using them are supposed to clean up any bot generated ambiguity or misstatements -- but sometimes they don't which I find very annoying.) The photo was uploaded to en:Wikipedia by User:Devilkha before being transfered to Commons. Devilkha states it is their own work and released it under multiple free licenses. Do you have some reason to think this is not true?
- I applaud your wish to rid Wikimedia of copyright violations. However looking at the three examples above, I find no evidence of copyright violation in any of these cases. For future reference, images on Commons that appear to be copyvios or in need of deletion for whatever reason, you can list them yourself at Commons:Deletion requests.
