Murfreesboro

Hi Huntster, thanks for your offer of assistance. I'm writing an article about the Murfreesboro mosque controversy (see User:Prioryman/Islamic Center of Murfeesboro for the draft to date). I was wondering if you might be able to take some photos of the Islamic Center - preferably both the old building at 862 Middle Tennessee Boulevard and the new building at the intersection of Bradyville Pike and Veals Road? Same Name

I know this has Absolutely Nothing to do with wikipedia, but as I was looking at Talk:2012 Aurora shooting I noticed your name (Huntster) on some of the threads. So, I figured that your real name is Hunter (which is also my real name). And, one of my nicknames is also Huntster. I clicked on your user page and discovered that you are currently living in Murfreesboro. I am in Murfreesboro alot because I live in DeKalb County (near Smithville). Such vitriol and moral superiority, I expect better from an editor who has been around as long as you have. You obviously are not getting the point that this is a direct quote from the website, using an accepted spelling variation of 'travelled'. Evanescence Group Pic

Hey Huntster. I feel like I'm having a lapse in brain power this evening. A photo was recently uploaded to the Evanescence page that I believe is a clear copyright violation. A Google Images search finds many references to Tumbler, and one post on a blog called ImmortalEvanescence cites the image as being taken in October 19th in Paraguay, but seems to originate on the Evanescence Buenos Aires Facebook page. So I doubt this user is the copyright holder since the dimensions are exact to Facebook's shrunken size.

WP:CITE and Amy Lee

Regardless of the depth of your Amy Lee fandom, if you cannot cite references for the collaborations, put a "this article has insufficient inline citations" tag on it, or back it out and call it a day. Police dispatcher? That means they trust you with a badge and a microphone, but prefer to leave actual policing to those who are more qualified. I'm not impressed. Regarding your revision on Liqian (village)

Yes, the connection between Huns and Xiongnu it is theoretical. You seem to have the Huns and Xiongnu mixed up, though. The former are the people who sacked Rome, the latter were the nomads in east Asia. Read the article in question, Battle of Zhizhi, fought between Xiongnu and Chinese/Han. The source actually has "Hsiung-nu" in brackets. With something written way back in 1941, they seem to have mistakenly written "Huns" as the english version. --chinneeb-talk 10:02, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Ooh, I've never seen that site before...nifty. My primary concern was that the first sentence of that paragraph made very little sense...I had to read it a couple of times and parse it out. Another hint is that using "bigger" words sometimes gives you a lower score. Wikipedia is designed to attract many readers, not just scholars. re: this. First, it is so great to see you about. I'll think about this for a bit and see if I can come up with a more optimal wording. My thoughts here are: 1) per item 2a in that the word "discover" leads a person to think along the lines of "previously unknown". Once something is "discovered", can it be undiscovered? Maybe "most recently observed would be more accurate? I understand the subtle nuance to the word, so I will think about it for a bit and try to come up with something there. OK .. the second part though I absolutely disagree with. The asteroid was not discovered at the observatory, the asteroid was in space. It was discovered by the people who were at the observatory, yes. Guess you want me to read up on this subject a bit and actually do some constructive editing to the 'pedia huh? LOL. OK, I'll do some research and try to help improve the article. If you have any good links not already mentioned, please let me know. Yes, you're definitely right about the second part. My brain was filling in 'by researchers at the observatory', so "by the" is certainly better. My concern about the first part is that an observed asteroid or other body can become lost (this happens rather frequently) when the observer loses track of it due to lack of adequate orbital data and other circumstances, but is later independently "discovered" one or more times; sometimes the astronomers can determine that the rediscovered object has previously been seen, sometimes not. That's the case with 274301 Wikipedia...It was found, lost, found, lost and found (and that's just the documented and correlated sightings). "Most recently observed" makes it sound like Andrushivka is the last group to have laid eyes on it, rather than the first group to definitively identify this object and characterise its orbit. Ched, understand that I stay far away from the politics of Wiki, so I don't really know what the situation is. If it is a problem in "Wikipedia:" space, then please heed my advice and stay away. I know you want to help, and I know there's a lot of people who appreciate that help, but if it is getting you down, then it's not worth it. If the problem is a conflict in article space, perhaps there's something I can do to help. Let me know. In any case, getting back to the basics of editing and writing and cleaning up always works for me. Personally, there's nothing better than diving into an article with messy citations and making them all look nice and neat. YMMV of course. You can probably tell from my contribs that I've not been very active on en.wiki for a long while. Contacting a company for images

Hi Huntster. Since you are knowledgeable in the ways of wiki-images (and I've personally just never decided to expend the time to get up to speed on all that arcana), and you've helped edit some of our spaceflight related articles, I'm touching base with you on this. Well, that, and because you've always been very helpful.

I'm trying to get a company to upload some appropriately licensed images so that they can be used by various editors on Wikipedia, nothing more than are already in their press packages, but just with the licenses fixed so we can use them. (UPDATE: 13 Apr 2013: by email, they have responded positively and indicated they would try to release some of their images with an acceptable Creative Commons license.)

Is there anything I should watch out for? Any minefields? I was figuring if the company just uploads some appropriately-licensed images, and Wikipedia editors do or do not use those images, we'd be okay relative to WP:COI. But this is the first time I have contacted a company like this so thought I would ask for your guidance in the process.
