@Bovineboy2008: I have provided more sources for both A Stand Up Guy and Timber the Treasure Dog to qualify per WP:NFSOURCES. If you're still not satisfied, I suggest you start a deletion discussion for those articles and let consensus decide. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 15:47, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you had more success than I. When I looked for both, I did not find the sources that you did. It would help in the future to provide more than one source when creating an article, especially when the subject is slightly obscure and may be hard to find the sources. BOVINEBOY2008 15:49, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
One other thing. Where are you getting information for your articles? For example, where did you get the United States and French release dates for The Activist (2014 film)? BOVINEBOY2008 12:50, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bovineboy2008: To answer your question concerning The Activist (2014 film), I got the release dates from IMDb. I admit that IMDb is not a reliable source, so if you have a better way to cite release dates I'd be glad to hear it. Also, they're not my articles, BovineBoy2008. Just because I happened to create them doesn't make them my own (per WP:OWN). Is there anything you would like to know about the articles I created? Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 13:20, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I should not have called them yours. My only implication is that you are mass adding poorly sourced content to Wikipedia. You cannot add release dates from IMDb. You need to find other reliable sources. The way I search is I take the date that IMDb has and I google it with the title to see if there is another reliable source (like a magazine or a newspaper) supporting it. Please make better edits. BOVINEBOY2008 13:23, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bovineboy2008: Could you please give me an example of what you mean by "mass adding poorly sourced content to Wikipedia?" Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 13:28, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Creating many articles (Paper Hearts (film), Curvature (film), Nothing for Mahala, Little Glory, The Mortician, The Pier, Lies We Tell, etc) with dates from IMDb. It is established that is a poor source and you just said that's where the info is coming from. BOVINEBOY2008 13:33, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Very well, @Bovineboy2008:, I will keep that in mind the next time I create a film article in Wikipedia. I appreciate that we discussed this. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 13:40, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate it. I hope I don't come off as too harsh. I really appreciate all the work you do. I just want to make sure we are all holding ourselves to the best standards possible. BOVINEBOY2008 15:58, 28 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A Soldier's Revenge

[edit]

Hey! Can you find any other sources for A Soldier's Revenge? The only sources I'm coming up with are basically all the same article from Variety. Not sure it meets notability guidelines of significant coverage. BOVINEBOY2008 20:13, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Bovineboy2008: First off, why did you remove the Yahoo! links? Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 20:17, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I put that in my edit summary, it is a reprint of the same article from Variety. BOVINEBOY2008 20:18, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bovineboy2008: And the Media Play News link? Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 20:18, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Again, it is basically the same article. No new content is given in the article, appears to be just a rewording of the Variety article. BOVINEBOY2008 20:20, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Although on closer inspection, it was published before the Variety article. So maybe it's not, but there isn't much difference in the articles. BOVINEBOY2008 20:21, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bovineboy2008: I don't want to revert. Therefore, is there a guideline or policy that says two sources cannot be the same? Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 20:24, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I know of specifically. But I don't think it speaks to the notability of a topic if the content shared by multiple sources is a reprint of the same source. BOVINEBOY2008 20:26, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Unless you have a policy or guideline, I'm going to put back the sources and consider it a good faith edit. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 20:30, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! I see you've restored the Media Play News source. Thank you, Bovineboy2008. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 20:31, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Of course! I still think more sources would be needed to meet notability guidelines, so I'm going to leave the Notability tag there. If you have the time and can find sources, I would encourage you to add them. I'll look more in the future too! BOVINEBOY2008 20:33, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SNL

SNL
Hey man - I actually joined to reach out to you, because in early May, I started whats called "The SNL Project" - basically, it's a database of every SNL audition, ever. So, I saw there was now a Wikipedia page dedicated to unsuccessful celebrities that auditioned and was sooooo pumped. I'm going to post it on our social accounts tomorrow. --- The site, when it launches, could use as much legitimacy as possible, so - given the timing, I was curious if you saw The SNL Project and were inspired to create that wiki page. I really hope you were, because I'd love to mention it in a blog or something (coudl cite you/link to anything you'd like too or nothing, whatever you'd like).

Does that make sense? I'm sure it isn't the standard Wiki message, but hopefully my questions were straightforward.

Speak soon, thanks!

@Hitcher vs. Candyman Ah - good to know - thanks. When the site goes up I'll send it your way; have about 300 confirmed up to now - some not celebrities though, so tough to say.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me and take care (Reddit.com/r/TheSNLProject is running while www.TheSNLProject is finished up)

Article deletions

[edit]

Hello, Hitcher vs. Candyman,

I was just curious about the many articles you have tagged for deletion today. Do they no longer meet your standards? Is this a way of retiring? I've seen editors tag for deletion one or two of the articles they created but not the number that you have today. If the articles have stood the test of time, is it necessary for them to be deleted? Liz Read! Talk! 23:44, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz:: What I'm trying to do is clean up shop. After having a discussion with User:Bovineboy2008 and User:NinjaRobotPirate, I decided from that point on, I was going to create film articles while following WP:NFSOURCES on the following conditions: 1.) I had to use more than one source; 2.) The sources had to be significant and 3.) I had to avoid using IMDb. What I'm trying to do is fix the errors that I made on Wikipedia. That's why I want those articles I created to be deleted. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 23:54, 29 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, that makes sense. It's great you can be so detached about your work. I can't argue with you raising the standards for articles! Liz Read! Talk! 00:38, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Many of the film you are listing for deletion have citations found with a quick google search. Are you doing a WP:BEFORE or are you just looking at articles and judging them based on what is cited within the article. Notability isn't established by what sources are listed in the article, it is established by the fact that sources exist. I agree that the rules you are using for yourself going forward are great, but to go back and delete articles you created solely because you used IMdB to create them is a disservice to Wikipedia. Many of these films ARE notable, but just because they weren't created with citations doesn't mean they should be deleted. If they get deleted, I foresee a great many of them being recreated in the future. Donaldd23 (talk) 00:53, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Donaldd23: I can assure you I always do a WP:BEFORE before nominating an article for deletion. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 00:55, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For example, how in Sizzle Beach, U.S.A. did you not find the New York Times or the TV Guide articles that users Toughpigs and Readerofthepackjust added if you did a WP:BEFORE? I did a search and they popped up immediately. Just curious as to what searches you are doing. Thanks. Donaldd23 (talk) 01:00, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Donaldd23 My method is that I search on Google and Google Books for sources to add to film articles, provided that the sources are significant and reliable and not tabloid or "insufficient to fully establish notability" per WP:NFSOURCES. Btw, it's not a New York Times review, its a New York Daily News review. Which raises a fair question: can tabloid sources count for movie reviews? Please note, I'm glad to withdraw the deletion nominations. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 01:17, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I noticed my error in typing...it is the Daily News. My apologies. As for tabloid sources, yes, the NYDN is an established newspaper (even if it is considered a tabloid) and definitely counts. Now, if it was a movie review in the National Enquirer, then I would doubt it! :) Again, I am not trying to dissuade you, but I feel that films with established actors/production companies/distribution companies almost always have reviews published at the time of release. Things pre-2000 are still usually not readily available online, but they almost always exist offline. I have tried to clean up lots of non notable films over the past several months and I try to concentrate on films that do not have established actors/companies as they usually do not have any reviews or other evidence of notability that can be found either on- or offline. However, a film released by say, Universal Studios in the 1970s, or a film with an older star from the 70/80s (like John Candy) may not have anything found online, but you can be certain that there is evidence of notability offline. Again, that is my preferred method, but certainly not telling you how to go about your method. I'll probably keep looking at your submissions and if I agree, I will vote delete, but if not I will vote Keep. Thanks for listening to my rambling. @Donaldd23 Sure, no problem. Just please be aware I nominate articles for deletion in good faith. My goal is to help the project, not hurt it. I'll admit I've nominated too many articles for deletion and I ought to take a break from that and go back to creating articles. I'm glad we've discussed this. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 01:47, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am glad too. Have a great rest of your day. Donaldd23 (talk) 01:48, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hitcher, I'm glad to hear that you're going to slow down on the nominations. You've withdrawn 7 out of 16 nominations you made in the last two days, and you're going to withdraw #8 when you see the improvements that I made. :) It's fun to help fix up a page sometimes, but it's also extra work for me, and other editors who respond to your nominations. — Toughpigs (talk) 05:49, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Toughpigs Thanks for the tip. I’ll keep that in mind and try not to nominate too many articles at once. I’ll also continue to do a WP:BEFORE search in the future as promised. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 10:54, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

More deletion nominations

[edit]

Hi Hitcher, I see that you've made another two nominations for deletion again. I looked up Barry Lee and it was pretty easy to find sources on Google Books. 14 of your nominations have closed as "Speedy Keep" in the last four days; I think it's safe to say that you're not choosing nomination targets very well. It's nice that you withdraw nominations when people find coverage, but it's really wasting other people's time if you're 0-14 for the week. Can you stop? — Toughpigs (talk) 01:39, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Toughpigs I realized now I meant to say I was going to take a break on nominating film articles for deletion. My apologies for the miscommunication. And his name is Benny Lee, not Barry Lee. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 01:43, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, what I'm saying is that you're still not picking great targets, and it wastes people's time. — Toughpigs (talk) 01:45, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Toughpigs How’s this for an agreement: I will not nominate further articles for deletion for the rest of this month. Failure of me to do so, and you may report me to WP:ANI. You have my word. Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 02:05, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I don't have any interest in reporting you to anybody. :) I just wanted to ask. Thanks for your consideration. — Toughpigs (talk) 02:50, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article deletions

[edit]

Can you please not alert me of a PROD or article deletion again, I barely visit this site nowadays let alone have time to waste on trying to save articles that deletionists have made up their mind aren't notable anyway. Thankyou.† Encyclopædius 17:00, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
