WikiProject Polymers
[edit]Yippee!!! We have a new member in our WikiProject! Welcome aboard! --HappyCamper 14:10, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Polybutadiene
[edit]Hi. I noted your comment in your edit to Polybutadiene. Polybutadiene is definitely an elastomer or a rubber. It certainly does not resemble many of the other plastics listed. However, "plastic" is not well defined in the first place. A better term would be "polymer" but that wikipedia article does not focus on hydrocarbon based synthetic polymers. That said, how does polybutadiene not fit the definition of Plastic?
Plastic covers a range of synthetic or semisynthetic polymerization products. They are composed of organic condensation or addition polymers and may contain other substances to improve performance or economics. There are few natural polymers generally considered to be "plastics". Plastics can be formed into objects or films or fibers. Their name is derived from the fact that many are malleable, having the property of plasticity. Plastics are designed with immense variation in properties such as heat tolerance, hardness, resiliency and many others. Combined with this adaptability, the general uniformity of composition and light weight of plastics ensures their use in almost all industrial segments.
--Rifleman 82 14:48, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Hispalois. I've copied our discussion to Talk:Plastic so that other contributors may participate in this discussion. Hopefully we can come up with more ideas and reach a consensus on how to classify polymers. --Rifleman 82 22:59, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification
[edit]Hi. When you recently edited Lawrence Kemys, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Guiana and Santo Tomé (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

There is currently a proposal to ban articles concerning a large area of southern Andalusia from appearing on the Main Page of Wikipedia in the Did you know? section. This would affect a significant number of articles within the scope of WikiProject Spain. If you have a view on this proposal, please see Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Gibraltar-related DYKs#Proposal for one-year moratorium on Gibraltarpedia DYKs. - (Reply to message on my talk page) Yes, pretty much. You can use the 't' word if you provide a reliable source, of course, but even so it may be better to avoid it - even if it's an established fact it can give the impression that the article isn't written from a neutral point of view. Medical Translation Newsletter Aug./Sept. 2014
[edit]Medical Translation Newsletter
Issue 2, Aug./Sept. 2014
by CFCF
During August we have translated Disease and it is now live in more than 60 different languages! To help us focus on African languages Rubric has donated a large number of articles in languages we haven't previously reached–so a shout out them, and Ian Henderson from Rubric who's joined us here at Wikipedia. We're very happy for our continued collaboration with both Rubric and Translators without Borders!
- Just some of our over 60 translations:
- New roles and guides!
At Wikimania there were so many enthusiastic people jumping at the chance to help out the Medical Translation Project, but unfortunately not all of them knew how to get started. That is why we've been spending considerable time writing and improving guides! They are finally live, and you can find them at our home-page!
- New sign up page!
We're proud to announce a new sign up page at WP:MTSIGNUP! The old page was getting cluttered and didn't allow you to speficy a role. The new page should be easier to sign up to, and easier to navigate so that we can reach you when you're needed!
- Style guides for translations
Translations are of both full articles and shorter articles continues. The process where short articles are chosen for translation hasn't been fully transparent. In the coming months we hope to have a first guide, so that anyone who writes medical or health articles knows how to get their articles to a standard where they can be translated! That's why we're currently working on medical good lede criteria! The idea is to have a similar peer review process to good article nominations, but only for ledes.
- Some more stats
- In July, 18 full article translations went live (WP:RTT), and an additional 6 simplified versions went live (WP:RTTS)!
- We have a number of new lead integrators into Dutch, Polish, Arabic and Bulgarian, with more to come in smaller languages! (Find them here old sign up page)
- We were mentioned in a Global Voices Online report by Subhashish Panigrahi at Doctors and translators are working together to bridge Wikipedia's medical language gap
- New medical professionals have started, dedicated to working in Odiya and Kinyarwanda!
- Further reading
- Translators Without Borders
- Healthcare information for all by 2015, a global campaign

[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. --Beethoven (talk) 18:24, 25 August 2019 (UTC)

. RexxS (talk) 21:47, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Hispalois (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
This is the first time I have been blocked in Wikipedia and therefore I do not know the procedures very well. Apologies for any mistake I may be making in this request. I am surprised at having been blocked * without any previous warning by an admin or in general by any editor on my talk page * without having had the possibility to participate in the discussion at the admins’ noticeboard I acknowledge I am in disagreement with another editor about one specific article. I have taken the disagreement to the Talk page in hopes of reaching a consensus. I will be happy to follow the indications of any admin about how to behave regarding this disagreement and will refrain from editing the article in question until then. Hispalois (talk) 15:56, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
Accept reason:
Assurances of future conduct per this discussion. --RexxS (talk) 17:39, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
Would you agree to a ban from editing the Catalans article and editing about the Catalan ethnicity broadly construed? PhilKnight (talk) 20:08, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
- I agree to a temporary ban but if you think a ban forever is necessary, I guess I am not in a position to reject the offer either. Thanks. --Hispalois (talk) 22:08, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
- I would have no objection to an unblock on those terms.
- Hispalois, I hope you can appreciate my concern over edits which, for example, removed the sourced words "ethnic group" something like seven times since last September. If you are unblocked, please continue to contribute in other topic areas and take the opportunity to demonstrate how productively you can edit. --RexxS (talk) 23:35, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
- @RexxS: Might I suggest a topic ban on Catalan and Catalan ethnicity and ethnicity/"ethnic group", broadly construed, to be reviewed at WP:AN after six months of editing constructively?-- Deepfriedokra 09:24, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Deepfriedokra: As I'm sure you're aware, an admin cannot impose a topic ban on their own discretion in areas not covered by discretionary sanctions, which do not cover the article in question. Otherwise that would have been my preferred option in response to the ANI report. Nevertheless, if Hispalois accepts PhilKnight's binding terms for an unblock as a reasonable way to resume editing in other areas for the time being, we could arrive at the point you suggest by that route. What do you think, Phil? --RexxS (talk) 11:41, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
Exactly. As a condition of being unblocked. Though I think they already agreed in principle.-- Deepfriedokra 14:04, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
I just wanted to offer a potential endpoint via an appeal at AN-- Deepfriedokra 14:06, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hopefully Hispalois can accept the version outlined by Deepfriedokra, that is a topic ban on Catalan and Catalan ethnicity and ethnicity/"ethnic group", broadly construed, to be reviewed at WP:AN after six months of editing constructively. PhilKnight (talk) 20:42, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- I do not object to the 6-month ban on Catalan ethnicity but I am afraid that ethnicity "broadly construed" encompasses a very diverse range of topics, so I risk editing a "forbidden" article inadvertently. Someone could argue for example that the ethnicity topic covers everything under Category:Ethnic groups, but that category happens to include articles like Taco Bell (a Mexican fast-food chain), Hobbit (a fictional race), Joe Lieberman (categorized as Jewish US senator) or the Sicilian revolution of 1848. Could we please keep it simple and limit the ban to the article Catalans and those that are directly related to Catalan ethnicity (examples appreciated)? --Hispalois (talk) 22:28, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

I think it should apply to human ethnicities and changing ethnic groups or removing ethnic groups from articles. Or the word "ethnic group". Unless you disruptively changed ethnic groups of fictional races?-- Deepfriedokra 10:36, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
On the other hand, I don't see Taco Bell or Joe Lieberman with Cat:ethnic groups. Needs more coffee. Let's go back to the original disruptive behavior. What did that consist of?-- Deepfriedokra 10:40, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks Deepfriedokra for answering my ping. I am not sure if the question "What did that consist of?" is for me. In case it is, I will sum it up in a nutshell:
- I got into a disagreement with another user about the lead section of the article Catalans. I opened a discussion in the Talk page, where we managed to reach a partial consensus but for two specific issues. Unfortunately, there was no third opinion. On 24 August, the other user removed the {{disputed}} template I had inserted. That pissed me off and I reverted him, inadvertently also removing some improvements he had done to a reference. He/She reverted me, I reverted him again and he reported me to the admins' noticeboard. His arguments were heard and I was blocked before even knowing I had been reported.
- If the question was not for me, and this is not the place to retell the story, please accept my apologies.--Hispalois (talk) 12:08, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- @PhilKnight: @RexxS: @Deepfriedokra: Apologies for pinging everyone again. I have been blocked project-wide for 11 days now and the discussion here has idled. --Hispalois (talk) 15:10, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Do you agree to the topic ban unblock condition--Catalan and Catalan ethnicity broadly, and changing ethnicity/"ethnic group" in articles? To be reviewed at WP:AN after six months of editing constructively?-- Deepfriedokra 15:30, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Ok, I agree to the topic ban as defined: Catalan and Catalan ethnicity broadly, and changing ethnicity/"ethnic group" in articles. --Hispalois (talk) 15:53, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- I've unblocked you given your assurances of future conduct per this discussion. --RexxS (talk) 17:36, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Balkans or Eastern Europe, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious.
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
