This message is being sent to you because you have previously edited the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) page. There is currently a discussion that may result in a significant change to Wikipedia policy. Specifically, a consensus is being sought on if the policies of WP:UCN and WP:EN continues to be working policies for naming biographical articles, or if such policies have been replaced by a new status quo. This discussion is on-going at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (use English), and your comments would be appreciated. Dolovis (talk) 17:10, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Someone assumed personal attacks

I'm going to agree that scripts such as the bots and Igloo will need to be updated to include Huggle remark messages. However, the summary you used when undoing edits to warning 1 was regarded as a personal attack. Be careful with edit summaries. mechamind90 01:51, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

I do not have access to the text of deleted pages. You will need to ask an administrator. Based on the deletion summary, however, it was something along the lines of "{{usernameblock}}". Gurch (talk) 19:20, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Your userpage

It appears to be blank, but the page history says the blank version is 141,816 bytes in size (and another blank one before that was 731,640 bytes)? I don't know what happened unless it's not actually blank when you look at it. If you really want it blank, it should be able to say "empty" for file size.

I also notice there's no banner up above saying "This page is 141 kilobytes long". This really confuses me. mechamind90 22:34, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Look at any long page you like, and you'll notice there is no "This page is X kilobytes long" on any of them. This is because the message was removed from MediaWiki eight months ago. Apparently, nobody here has noticed this yet. Gurch (talk) 08:04, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Chris Liberator

I'm surprised that Chris Liberator's page was deleted. He was a moderately important pioneer for the acid techno and squat party scene around London in the early 90s. The label he helped found, Stay Up Forever, continues to produce popular techno tracks. Is there any way to have his page reinstated?--Jmgendron (talk) 00:20, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

I don't have access to the text of deleted pages; you will need to ask an administrator. However, the page was deleted for lacking any assertion of importance or significance, so it most likely didn't mention the information about him that you provided above. You may have an easier time just writing a new article about him. As long as you find at least one reliable source for that information -- e.g. a mention in a newspaper or online news website -- and link that from the article, it should be OK. Nomination of MacEdition for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article MacEdition is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MacEdition (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. HereToHelp (talk to me) 21:56, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Using Huggle for experiments

My name is Diederik (dvanliere @ wikimedia dot org) and I am the quantitative team lead for the Summer of Research Fellows of the Wikimedia Foundation (see also: http://blog.wikimedia.org/2011/06/01/summerofresearchannouncement/). A large portion of our research focuses on understanding what factors are driving newbie editors away.

The Fellows have developed three new templates that are more personalized and encouraging in tone and we would like to see the impact of these templates on editor retention. I would like to ask your support for the following: can Huggle bundle these new templates for a couple of days so we can quickly run our experiment and collect enough data?

I understand if you need more information and I am more than happy to hook you up with one of the fellows.

Best regards, Diederik — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drdee (talkcontribs) 18:04, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to events in June and July: bot, script, template, and Gadget makers wanted

I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.

This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC and our other events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Development Coordinator 02:04, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

The article Afrikaans Wikipedia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable website, per WP:NOTABLE

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:29, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Gurch,

Did you ever create a scripting and querrying language for Huggle, called Snuggle?

The thing is, EpochFail is creating (very useful looking) program under the same name.

There is a move discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Editor Retention/Retain new editors/Snuggle

It should probably go on record that I am against the mechanized harassment of users making constructive contributions, but yes you can delete that page. It is an abandoned project. Gurch (talk) 13:21, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi Gurch,

I'd really appreciate your feedback on the Snuggle project since I imagine you'd have some rare insights from being a successful wiki-tool developer. When I read your comment above, I assume that you've mistaken the intended use of Snuggle to be the identification of bad edits or bad editor activities. My intention in designing Snuggle is to support the exact opposite use pattern -- the identification and support of good-faith newcomers who need help. If you want to a quick overview of tool, I recommend reading a draft article I'm preparing for the Signpost. You can also give the current version a spin. (Caution: severely limited functionality) Any feedback, ideas or pull requests are welcome. --EpochFail(talk|work) 15:13, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Request to take part in a survey

I am Piotr Konieczny, a fellow Wikipedian (User:Piotrus) and a researcher of Wikipedia (http://scholar.google.com/citations?user=gdV8_AEAAAAJ). I am currently (in collaboration with WMF) embarking on a project trying to understand why the most active Wikipedia contributors (such as yourself) may reduce their activity, or retire. We have a growing understanding of why an average editor may do so (see http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/Former_Contributors_Survey_Results), but we have a very limited understanding of why the top editors would limit their contributions. Yet it is the top editors like yourself who contribute most of Wikiepdia's content, thus understanding this is of vital concern to Wikipedia's project future.

I am contacting you because you are among the top Wikipediana by number of edits, yet your editing activity shows a decline. I would very much appreciate if you would take a minute and answer the following four short questions. Please note this is not a mass email; I am contacting only few dozen of editors like yourself, and each response is extremely valuable. Your response will not be made public, and your privacy will be fully respected.

If you would like to help out in this project and take part in a very short survey, please send me a wikiemail, so that I can send you an email with the survey questions. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:23, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
