Vandalism on WAME page

Thanks. I think I figured out what to do.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 16:30, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Since early 2007, this S.P.A. has been used only to create and pretty-up articles on the band of the same name. Now, on the talk page, they admit that this is an account of one or more members of said band. I've blocked the username, and now they want to be unblocked so that that they can get a new username. Thoughts? (Maybe comment on their talkpage as well.) --Orange Mike | Talk 15:56, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Agree. I see two problems:
  • Obviously a WP:SPA even with a name change that is all it will be. There are a few IPs that edit that are also probably members if not the same one.
  • There has been very little outside editors. I saw the tags on the article so maybe they will bring some assistance over. They are notable but it seems unlikely there will be many US editors that have the knowledge to edit this article.
I am a little stuck on this one. If the user would agree to only do edits on a user/sandbox page and then letting another editor add them it would be great but since the article does not have another deadicated editor I do not know who would do it. GtstrickyTalk or C 16:21, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I also just received an email where they agree to fix the page per the tags. They also state that they understand the WP:COI. It sounds like they are willing to work within the guidelines. I think it is ok to unblock and do the name change. GtstrickyTalk or C 16:25, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Revert notice

On the page Goozex, it looks like you attempted to revert vandalism by User:68.49.67.157, but actually re-reverted, reinserting the vandalism. The warning went through but you brought back the vandalism. Vandalproof does not always work how it should or how you think it will, and I just wanted to bring this to your attention. --Michael Greiner 00:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

It has been completely erased.???? what should we do????Therese Dvir (talk) 08:10, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I notice on March 3 you nominated Colin Norris for deletion because of WP:PROD. This states that when "a person is associated with only one event, such as for a particular relatively unimportant crime or for standing for governmental election, consideration needs to be given to the need to create a standalone article on the person."

Now Norris was convicted of the murder of 4 elderly patients. Why did you think that was an "unimportant crime"?? Please, be more careful when nominating articles for deletion - your action concerns me. Others are trying to create useful articles and over-hasty editors trying to delete them is not productive. Thank you:) Malick78 (talk) 18:18, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind; I reformatted your use of the above template over at the help desk. As the creator of the template, I'm wondering how it went wrong, i.e., can you tell me what you typed that got you all of the code for both switches (there's one for ips and one for users) and why it didn't format the spacing correctly. If you look at your post now, that's what should have come up when you placed the template. Thanks in advance.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:21, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

That was all my fault not the template. First I tried {{creation}}, that looked a little off but it seemed to fit, I then tried to {{subst:creation}} with no luck. Nothing came up. [1]] was the result. Needed to pack up for the day I just went to the template page and copy and pasted. Now that I read the whole template (it is hard to notice there is more info on that page) I see what I did wrong. Thanks for the repair. Cheers GtstrickyTalk or C 23:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

It has come to my attention that there is call for the deletion of an article that was written by me. Deh Shiva Bar Mohe

Hi, I have contacted Ajjay wrt the above thread.

As you may be aware there are political tendencies around the Globe for religious militant groups to foster segregation by many techniques. Modification of meanings and/or concepts to suit their goals is one.

The message I left for him as follows:

"As I mentioned before, the title uses 'Shiva' not 'Siva'.

If the Guru or Gurus didn't mean what they said or said what they mean or more specifically didn't say what 'political' motivated adherents preferred, then that does not mean you preclude exact words and/or definitions. Dave"

I hope you agree with the above, but its your jurisprudence. Thanks, Dave Indologist —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.196.3.244 (talk) 02:30, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

This guy has just made a serious accusation at me.(I am reporting him) His language gives away his intentions. I have corrected the title. In the original text,(Brahmi) it is siva and not shiva.

Further you can go through his contributions history and you will see that he started editing articles to which i contributed, only after he got into edit war with me in Bhindranwale article. This reflects that he just wants to harrass me.Ajjay (talk) 04:42, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Something like this recently happened to me. I found that the best ways were to interfere as little as possible (which is hard to do on this one), not to gang up on the newer user, and to get some help. Personally I see very little that is different between both of their versions so there is no way to pick a "correct one." I would suggest asking each for their opinions and reasoning separately. If they're still insulting eachother, being incivil, etc., then I would ask them to wait for two days to resume the conversation. I have to leave the computer for now, but will check back up on you tomorrow. Good luck for now, Malinaccier (talk) 01:31, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 17:54, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey there - I think Thady Ryan would qualify for an article based on his olympic status (I crosschecked it, he was the chef d'équipe for the Irish equestrian team in the 1960's , but do you think he ought to be listed at WP:RA rather than trying to use a single sentence for a stub? CredoFromStart talk 16:03, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:54, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

No worries, I'm pretty new to this whole area anyway. My reasoning was more based upon the lack of sources the submitter provided which covered the subject... it looked impressive with all those links, but they were written by her, not about her. She is probably notable judging by the claims of one primary source provided, just not proven by the ip. The reason I didn't decline the second one was to let somebody else take a look and see if I was just being fussy! So yeah, no probs. - Toon05 21:56, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

BadRAM article submission

Hello Gtstricky,

You declined my submission of a page on BadRAM on the issue of noteworthiness. I hereby provide the information that you are requesting.

As significant coverage, I can tell you that it got published in the American Linux Journal and the Dutch Linux Magazine. Both were written by me, the builder of the patch. It also appears online a lot, in things not written by me:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BadRAM http://meetamanish.com/interesting-stuff/BadRAM/BadRAM.html http://fgouget.free.fr/misc/badram.shtml http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=kernel-patch-badram

Over time, various distributions have included support for BadRAM, though I have no detailed knowledge of the current list that supports it. I've seen it in Mandrake and Debian at least. Memtest86, which is included as a boot option with virtually any Linux desktop, includes support for BadRAM as a standard measure.

New kernels invariably lead to a new patch in a matter of days, sometimes hours. Clearly, the patch is notable to some people.

I must tell you that I am the author of the patch, and cannot feel totally impartial about it. Being a scientist though, I am used to taking an impartial approach when writing about a topic.

I hope this will change your mind. You are welcome to contact me for any questions or concerns. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.164.192.248 (talk) 09:32, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
