Wassila churches, sigh
Thank you. You are certainly correct that this topic is not going away. As you can see if you look at my past articles, I write a lot on churches and, especially, synagogues, usually on history and architecture. In addition to the article on Wasilla Bible Church, I posted an article on the pastor of that Church, Larry Kroon. It was speedily deleted. Wrongly, I believe, because it was sources, albeit like Wasilla Bible Church I posted it in the belief that we are abotu to hear a great deal more about this pastor. Can you help me get that article undeleted?160.39.35.45 (talk) 18:29, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Elan26

Four pages on Churches and Pastors relevant to Palin's Policies
I am new to Wikipedia and two of these articles were my first, and I contributed sources and made the other two less biased.
1. I recieved a large number of suggestions for improving the articles, and in general reponded with individual messages to each, unless exactly the same point was made by both. I don't understand why this is called Spamming.
2. What is the five day deletion policy?
3. How did all of the diverse information on the four articles, which was growing with a very large number of independent edits all get deleted?
4. Were the sources , sourced as requested by the Chicago Tribune, Atlantic Monthly, New Jersey Times of Trenton, etc., inadequate? What is a major news source
5. A large number of people were making improvements, as requested, and each article was growing with different information. Where did all of the information go?
6. Do you know who broke the links from the Sarah Palin page?
If you have time, you can respond on my talk page. Thanks.EricDiesel (talk) 02:23, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your responses, responses by others are on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wasilla Assembly of God. EricDiesel (talk) 17:45, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Scattershot
Could you create the Scattershot (book) page? I think as a new user I am denied? At least that is what I remember. Not to be ridiculously snooty about this book, but with Oprah and Leonardo DiCaprio circling around it for whatever their reasons are, I think it is safe to say it is at least short term a book of interest. I just want to get the article started so that as I'm learning and later reading about it I can help out. Sincerely, Caverty (talk) 22:50, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- I was hoping some kindly misfit would create the article for me.-Caverty (talk) 23:00, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, okay. At what point would it be possible to have an article about the upcoming memoir--if at all. It seems like a highly original book about a family afflicted with bipolar disorder that is worth making a fuss about. How does wikipedia's policy weigh in here? Caverty (talk) 23:06, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- I read the WP:BK. It says about 'Not yet published book': "Since Wikipedia is not a crystal ball articles about books that are not yet published are generally discouraged unless multiple independent sources provide strong evidence that the book is widely anticipated and unless the title of the book and its approximate date of publication have been made public." The date of publication is today/tomorrow, and the author is already created anticipation amongst well-known celebrities. You can see in the section 'Why Oprah and Leo DiCaprio are interested in ‘Scattershot’' in the article[1]. That's pretty good, huh? A whole section about the anticipation of the book. I just want to start a collection point where news can go right away and a interesting discussion about this book can have a focal point. Sincerely, Caverty (talk) 23:14, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- I found an interesting solution: I disambiguated the Scattershot page. So brief mention of the book, and eventually that redlink can become the article. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Caverty (talk) 23:26, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Pastor David Brickner, Pastor Paul Riley, Pastor Ed Kalnins, Pastor Larry Kroon, and Pastor David Brickner
I think I should have slowed down until I researched and wrote this today, and there would have been not deletion or controversy. Is this an improvement?
Paul Riley should be added to the Religion section of the sarah Palin article. Associated Press reports “Her pastor for most of her time at Wasilla Assembly of God, Paul Riley”. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jCeGgS4vbVt6qpxTpahCgGn_R-dQD92VOKVG0
- 1. Paul Riley is NOT notable, as he only appears in the media talking about Palin as far as I know, and notability cannot be inherited. If he becomes controversial, or is the subject of media stories for some other notable thing, only then he should only then get an article.
- 2. The “controversial figure” Ed Kalnins IS notable, since the content of the many media articles in which he is featured regards his controversial remarks. These remarks should NOT be on the Palin page, as there is no information I am aware of that directly links Palin to the controversial remarks. E.G., USA Today reports “The Rev. Ed Kalnins had no way of knowing he'd be a controversial figure in the 2008 presidential race.” http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-09-03-palin-pastor_N.htm . So Kalnins should have his own article in which his controversial remarks can be documented, as well as his bio, and any information about him that can be sourced.
- 3. Larry Kroon IS notable. He is in many major media stories linking him as far back as 2004 to the highly controversial Jews for Jesus and David Brickner. The Atlantic Monthly magazine reports this Jews For Jesus pamphlet (PDF) from 2004 that reveals more details about Palin's pastor.” This is a year 2004 association, long predating Palin’s rise from mayor. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/palins-pastor-a.html Numerous other news articles report on Kroon, e.g. The Chicago Tribune http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-alaska-palin_monsep01,0,3504940.story . The 2004 stuff is unrelated to Palin, so Kroon should have his own article. It is unclear Palin knew Kroon would be speaking when she recently sat through his sermon.
- Therefore, articles should NOT be created for pastor Paul Riley, but articles SHOULD be created for Ed Kalnins and Larry Kroon. Links from the Sarah Palin article should be established to the Ed Kalnins and Larry Kroon articles, and the controversies should NOT be in the Palin article unless someone meaningfully associates her to the controversies. A link to from Palin’s article to David Brickner or Jews for Jesus should exist, but the ONLY information that should be in Sarah Palin article, unless more information emerges, should be that she attended a Jews for Jesus Fundraiser with the sermon given by David Brickner.
- Wasilla Assembly of God and Wasilla Bible Church should have their own pages, where information reported on them in the media (controversial or not) that is unrelated to Palin can be reported, without tarring other pastors, like Paul Riley, with information on Ed Kalnins or Larry Kroon.

WP:PUI is not the appropriate forum for discussing an image that is already admittedly non-free. PUI is for disputing whether or not an image has really fallen into the public domain (ie, an image that might be from 1923 or might really be from 1933 and copyrighted) or whether the source information is misstated (an uploader claims that the image is his or her own work, but it really appears to incorporate elements from a copyrighted image). An image which is unquestionably non-free should be discussed elsewhere, either with a fair use review or nominated for deletion at WP:IFD. --B (talk) 17:47, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

R C Bell
In the article I specifically state that much of the data is taken from the back-cover of Shire Publications but your amendment makes it clear that this does not count as a citation. I have several of his books but of course anything written therein is unprovable as it does not refer to truly independent sources. How do you suggest that I improve the article.
Bell is well known as an author on games (and his name occurs in many wiki-articles on games). I thought these facts would be sufficient but now i see clearly that they are not. Without reference to his personal papers, I have no idea how to prove any of the facts of his life beyond reasonable doubt as his book-blurbs cannot be an independent portrayal. Going to a more difficult and subjective level, I have even less material to prove his worthiness beyond reasonable doubt.
On further consideration, since I cannot prove any of the facts, how do I go about deleting the page. Salisbury-99 (talk) 10:37, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
You ask whether Bell gave university courses (by which I presume you mean in reference to this topic 'did he give lectures on games?'). There is no notation that he did so in the book-blurbs I have seen. He wrote the books I list and others. He was by profession a plastic surgeon so it seems obvious that he would not have been able to take an academic lectureship in games (and I doubt if such courses existed in the 1960s, 70s.) His name is referred to within the text of many game articles within wikipedia but these of course do not count as genuine academic citations which is how I now read the notability-guidelines. One person has suggested I wait one week until I delete this article - So expect to see it removed by the end of the week. Salisbury-99 (talk) 08:55, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

TopoSys GmbH
Please read my talk on the deletion page for this article, and mind the below text. I repeat once again what is written in the page: TopoSys GmbH developed the first and only airborne laser-scanning to make use of fibre optics technology. This equipment was and still is a revolution at the airborne laser-scanning field. In fact, this equipment, which is half-dozen years old, still surpasses in quality any other LIDAR system available on the market in what concerns gymbal and swing modes usage when performing scanning actions. The fact that it's the only push-broom scanner to work with non-side shawdowing effects in parallel line acqusition, makes it unique in the world. Let me as well just suggest you some peer-reviews articles concerning the use of TopoSys GmbH equipments and/or software, or provided services. Also, a neutral link: http://web.ges.gla.ac.uk/~gpetrie/Petrie_INTERGEO_2006.pdf Be my guest to check these articles, and please understand by taking a look at some of these references, the fact why I cannot consider your judgement to be fair:

Hi! Yeah, I obviously see your point of view, and I just threw the articles in your talk section as if it were nothing, and I should have devided them into sections such as e.g. research using the equipments, and notorious articles referring to the equipments' scientific advances and new technology. You can't obviously guess the content without reading them, and that's why I also left the external link, I can't remember of any other one for the time being, but these concern the equipment itself:

Nevertheless, I think that talking about the company provided services is spam, and I don't want to go that much into that field. As you can see, all the articles above talk about the Falcon series, i.e. the equipments based on fibre optics technology. They have been published in magazines related with geo-information and/or remote sensing sciences. That seems pretty fair for me! I comment there on your talk page as you started the non-important profile action, just that! :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Piodsys (talk • contribs) 19:42, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Susan Grimes Walker
Hi there. According to this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Donating_copyrighted_materials, I do not in fact have to place notification of its license on the external site. See this:
If you want to grant Wikipedia permission to use material from your site, but don't want to place a statement to that effect on your site, you can leave us a notice to that effect on the article's talk page (or on your user page if your site covers a number of topics). This does require that your site have a posted email contact, or some other similar means for us to verify that we really do have the relevant permission. Someone from Wikipedia will then contact that email address to confirm the permission, and we will be able to add your site to a list of those from which our editors may freely draw.
Am I reading this wrong? Thanks. (by the way, double-edited this because I accidentally put it up top rather than at the bottom of the page - didn't want to mess up the order! Bmcspecial (talk) 19:35, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
The Hymens Parable
Dear Gtstricky,
I believe you may be mistaken in rejecting the film "The Hymens Parable" dues to "unrealiable sources".
One of the sources listed was CITY PAGES, which is published by the same company as THE VILLAGE VOICE (see [2]) and the other was IMDB, which has pretty strict requirements for films -- see [3] for the entry for "The Hymens Parable".
Furthermore, the writer/director of the film is Jon Springer, for whom Wikipedia already has an entry (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Springer).
Please reply to this email so I can understand the basis of your determination that these sources are unreliable.
Kind regards, Hymensparable (talk) 15:01, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
The Hymens Parable
Dear Gtstricky,
Re: your previous email in which you ask for links -- I believe I provided links to reliable sources in my previous email. Here they are again:
1. Offender of the Faith Filmmaker Jon Springer's bloody liturgy includes incest, stigmata, and stolen communion wine. Heaven can wait. Jeremy Swanson Published on March 21, 2001 [4]
This is from CITY PAGES -- A respected, widely circulated newspaper published by the same publisher as The Village Voice. Pleas note that the above link is to a lengthy article on "The Hymens Parable", NOT to some sort of compilation or movie-theme edition of the newspaper.
I believe per Wikipedia film guidelines, this source should suffice, especially when considered along with the IMDB citation.

Thanks Gtstricky for your assistance. This actually works, but I'm not ready to begin editings at Batangas State University so I will return the redirection back. Thanks again. Kampfgruppe (talk) 10:42, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Eversley Storage Services
Hi Gtstricky,
Just a note to say that I have added an article about Eversley Storage Services from the UK Self Storage Associations Focus Magazine to my sandbox. Please could you review this? It shows the general wider interest of my article.
Many thanks

- Yeah, good luck. :-) Stwalkerster [ talk ] 22:18, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey, I’m sorry that it didn’t work out this time. I’m a little dismayed with the number of objections over lack of article building, but since that seems to be the bulk of it, with some more experience in that area, I imagine that your next RfA will go better. Cheers! —Travistalk 15:07, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Gt,
I posted on the Omar Epps disc page. But instead of researching other editors (User_talk:Garion96,User_talk:Tool2Die4) just revert. As of 18:08p User:Garion96 reverted and locked the article, real mature. Who do I go to to get the page unlocked?
Thank You.

I see you added the info. Thx. U gonna unlock the page? I'd also appreciate if you'd tell Garion that he needs to not lock pages. Instead he should look. Had he done so he woulda seen the info is true, just as you did. Thx. 72.66.94.160 (talk) 19:07, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Gtstricky,
Thanks for getting back to me yesterday, going on your recommendation I have republished the article, referencing three other external sources as well as the feature from the Self Storage Associations Focus Magazine.
Please let me know if there is any further problem.
Many thanks indeed —Preceding unsigned comment added by Storage Geek (talk • contribs) 14:27, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

The RfA Barnstar | ||
Gtstricky, I would like to thank you for your participation in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with 112 supports, 4 opposes and 5 neutrals. A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Once again, thank you for your participation, and have a great day! :) The Helpful One 22:27, 25 November 2008 (UTC) |
