2015–16 Coupe de France

I'm not really happy that you've reverted the changes I made to the team names and league levels on this page. I know that it doesn't match the "draw" section, but the names I put were the common names of the clubs involved which is surely more useful than the (randomly abbreviated) "full names" from the FFF website. The main gripe is with the numbering system though, which was changed to reflect the system used in all previous Coupe de France articles and is much easier to read. Thanks, BigDom (talk) 17:12, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

And you've removed many wikilinks that I added, which is pretty unfortunate. I'm taking this to WikiProject Football. BigDom (talk) 17:16, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

The links to non-existent pages are because the clubs in question are (likely to be) notable by our criteria for football clubs, and red links encourage authors to create the articles. It's easier to see a red link, click on it and start writing than to go looking for a page, find it doesn't exist, have to decide on a title, etc. BigDom (talk) 20:34, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Rotherdam United, F.C.

I repeat this from my talk page to be sure you get the message in the event you are not monitoring my talk page: The standard level 1 template for vandalism states that an edit "has been undone because it did not appear constructive." The level 1 template that I used for incorrect information states: "Your recent edit to the Article appears to have added incorrect information." I am not sure there is a great difference between the two. The template tag "incorrect information" v. "vandalism" is not visible unless the user opens the page to edit it and understands what he is looking at. Since this is the user's first edit and he has not made another edit, I doubt he will pay any attention to a change and may just wonder why there is a change to a similar message. Also, since the user has made no more edits, this may be a one-off. A warning of any sort often makes disruptive users cease. If he returns, the next warning could come from the vandalism templates in any event. If I see a second disruptive edit or vandalism from a user, I almost always use the vandalism template regardless of the one that was first used. I think many others who watch for vandalism do the same. The first template does not require a second from the same series. Since the first warning seems to have achieved the purpose of making the user stop and nothing is really gained by changing the template, I think the better choice is to leave the warning as it is. Thanks for your attention to this article and concern about its vandalism. Donner60 (talk) 00:15, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Hey, I noticed you and others keep deleting the edit I did about Rotherham County playing in the top division during world war one. I see why it is being deleted but I feel like it is relevant information. If I mention that war time football statistics don't officially count will I be able to keep my edit. Thanks.

The article OneCoin is not correct because it is misleading telling OneCoin is cryptocurrency - IT IS NOT. It has nothing to do with cryptocurrency and is no more than SCAM. @30f3e3dfb4:Hi. Wikipedia is about verifiable facts. WP:V is one of the pillars of Wikipedia, so you can't just write "it's a scam" without being able to back it up. If there are reliable sources that show OneCoin to be a scam, then you need to include them in the article when you edit it. Please read WP:RS for an explanation of what are considered reliable sources. Wikipedia is about verifiable facts, so you can't just right "it's a scam" without being able to back it up. Atlético Mineiro squad

Hello. I removed the players because I did not know about the WP:FOOTY consensus, I used to check first team squads in the Featured and Good articles of clubs, and I usually did not see youth players who were just selected for some matchdays among them. Another use (Joe Sins) has already readded them. Regards. Felipe Bini (talk) 15:45, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

If a player was released at the end of last season then I believe it is still acceptable to name their previous club in the "from club" section. Say for example if a player was released during last season then I would then say Free agent. --Skyblueshaun (talk) 19:16, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Your comment on my edits for 2016–17 Coupe de France

Thanks for your comment on my editing of 2016–17 Coupe de France. I want to understand completely before going back to it. I was trying to capitalize important words in reference titles, not just proper nouns, and get rid of some ALLCAPS. These were apparently copied and pasted from the sources into the Wikipedia code. The links to the sources still work, but does French have different rules, so that only proper nouns in titles should be capitalized? Thanks again, and I'll try to fix it this evening if there are errors. Ira Leviton (talk) 12:03, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

I just saw your reply about changing titles from one acceptable form to another acceptable form – you're correct, and I now I realize that when I was fixing mispellings, ALLCAPS, and words that should have been capitalized, I simply got carried away with my personal preference. My apologies, and I'll try to control myself next time :) I will go back and change them this evening. Ira Leviton (talk) 15:31, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

michael ihiekwe

So because Michael Ihiekwe signs for rotherham Colin you come in vandalising factual good natured banter and actually erasing details of what was a massive pivotal moment in the 2017 National league championship! You werent even bothered about this page before today i have no doubt but in some respects its you doing the vandalism here. You of course would have known nothing of the national league supporting Rotherham, maybe you should do some homework before arrogantly erasing things! http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/rotherham-united/rotherham-united-things-you-might-not-know-about-millers-new-boy-michael-ihiekwe-1-8562965 (POINT 8!!!!!!)

Hi @2a02:c7f:da51:5b00:44e6:d1b6:99e5:e096:. Your edit to Michael Ihiekwe was sourced only to Twitter, which should be avoided unless all the criteria at WP:SELFPUB are met. It also contained Original Research (Ihiekwe was inspirational to Lincoln with his premature taunt and will probably go down in history as a don't presume anything moment. which is not allowed by policy. The fact that it was inserted at the end of a section about the 2014–15 season made it appear more as vandalism, but it would have been a revertable edit without these points. Wikipedia is not the place for banter. It is the place for verifiable facts.
Your statement about me knowing nothing about national league football and needing to do my homework is a Personal Attack that you should avoid in future. Comment on content is fine, commenting personally about the contributor is not.
That said, if you were to include a completely factual statement, based on the source you quoted above, in the right place in the article, it would have more chance of sticking. I wouldn't revert it.
I have, however, reverted your edit again based on the first paragraph above. Please do not re-revert. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 07:43, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

So the daily star AND the official non league papers journalist are not factual sources combined? I think you are being over zelous here. Are you trying to imply this wasnt said, this wasnt an important part of the season and for whatever reason erasing it because you dont like it? Its been and actually still is a massive part of banter between us and Lincoln fans and even michael jokes about it

Hi again. You are using Twitter as a source, which is not allowed. I don't deny it was said, but you cannot source to twitter. I am taking this to the WP:ANEW noticeboard now. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 08:31, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

So i removed the self publication and twitter , quoted to the facts published by a reputable daily newspaper surely thats a good enough resolution? You may feel it a negative influence on a personal level. You yourself admit it was said and now the facts are edited that should be ok i used twitter AND the daily star so why are you ignoring the reference from there focusing only on twitter?

The "reputable daily newspaper" which you quoted is not The Daily Star national paper, but the Sheffield Star local rag. I can pretty much guarantee they sourced that piece from your text on wikipedia, but of course I can't prove that. Your edit as it stands may be fine - it's certainly an improvement - it's up to others to assess that now. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 09:06, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

Well thanks for the response. Actually I want someone to count the amount of matches and goals scored, because it seems not updated. Especially in the last season article. I count there are 198 matches (instead of 195) on this season, while last "stopped" on 63. Do you want to help to fix? Thanks. – Flix11 (talk) 12:58, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:18, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

An article you recently created, 2019–20 Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 02:51, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

@CASSIOPEIA: Sorry, I got pulled away last night before I could add the actual data with references that I had. I have now done this, for the information currently available. Can you move back to article space please? (Or can I? Not sure if that's allowed). First matches in the competition are this weekend, so I'd prefer the article not to get lost at the bottom of the AFC queue. Thanks, Gricehead (talk) 09:03, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi Griehead, Greetings to you. 2 of the sources you provided are WP:PRIMARY (fro ffff as it associated with the subject) sources which can NOT be used to contribute to the notability of the article. Can you find other sources, such as from major newspapers (independent, reliable sources) about the league instead? If not then wait until this weekend when the competition started that would have sources available to add in. Let me know when you have found the them and added in and I will review for you. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 09:24, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
@CASSIOPEIA: Yeah, I take your point. I doubt there'll be any secondary coverage of the first round (finding any coverage online for the smaller French overseas territories is... challenging). There's no doubting the notability of the competition, and it will start getting coverage later on and when the mainland competitions start. It's going to be a shame not to be able to have this information on wiki until then. The competition is analagous to the English FA Cup, which never has any problems getting articles for it's qualification rounds up, despite having the same secondary sources issues for at least the first month. Gricehead (talk) 09:42, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi Gricehead, I understand you points; however, a page is merit in Wikipedia needs to satisfy the notability requirements where by the subject needs to be talked about by secondary independent sources, if not then it is WP:TOOSOON. If the subject is notable, and equivalent to English FA Cup then it would not be a problem to find those sources. Do note sources could be in any languages. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 10:02, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

I read your message today, I'm happy to work with you, but I can't create all boxes cause it's too long.

No, I don't have a draft on Clarke and no intention to start one. I've restored the article. GiantSnowman 10:34, 9 October 2019 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Red Bull Bragantino managers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Re: Your recent block of Mlopezer

Hey, yeah I remember you from the Amanda Reid page. Adding unneeded links to completely random articles is a common pattern for disruptive editors to inflate their edit counts ... I can't find a source for that but I've seen it and heard of it many times. The misleading edit summaries aren't a good sign, either. Maybe the block is a bit harsh but indef is not infinite ... if they do turn out to be a good editor and not disruptive/paid, they can always be unblocked. Graham87 10:41, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Two options dealing with a disruptive IP hopper - request a range block or request page protection. You can do that at WP:ANI / WP:RFPP respectively. GiantSnowman 07:49, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

US Torcy

Hi there. I've seen many articles of French players state they have played for a club called "US Torcy". Do you think it would meet the notability guidelines if it were created? Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 09:14, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on: They're well known for their youth football, up to U19 level, and as you say they have produced their fair share of big names. The first team haven't achieved anything of note, their highest level being National 3 in 2019-20 (I personally use National 2 as the lowest bar for league notability, as otherwise the volume of articles is crazy). Of course, by the letter of the law of football notability, they are notable due to competing in the Coupe de France, but they've not had any late-tournament success. It wouldn't be top of my to-do list, but might be worth a stub to see if it gets thrown to AFD. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 09:30, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. That's very helpful. I think I'll give it a shot. Robby.is.on (talk) 09:32, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: Looks good! I've added to List of football clubs in France. Can I ask that if you create more French football club articles you either add them to that list article, or drop me a message? It's pretty much impossible to find them otherwise (When I remember I search article creations of editors I know, but I don't often remember!) Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 11:59, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! I have no immediate plans to create more – this is only my second club article overall – but I'll try my best to remember that when I do. Robby.is.on (talk) 12:03, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
