Hi! Thank you for correct my (stupid) errors. Could you help me to nominate the page to FL? Dr Salvus (talk) 19:08, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

@Dr Salvus: Hi. They're not stupid errors. French clubs are sometimes difficult to spot from their familiar French-written names, and many mergers and name changes have taken place over the years.
I'm afraid I'm not experienced with Featured List nominations. All I can suggest is reading and following Wikipedia:Featured list criteria and making sure everything there is covered. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 09:44, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

I have read the the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Overseas teams in the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France since 2015 and you said that " Progress of the of overseas teams through their own self-contained competition could be linked from within the other article Overseas teams in the main competition of the Coupe de France". Unfortunatley is not possible "merge" this article with Overseas teams in the main competition of the Coupe de France (in my opinion) because there are not informations about the Overseas preliminary rounds of Coupe de France before 2015. Dr Salvus (talk) 20:28, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Coupe de France

Hi, I used global sports website as a source, but added soccerway reports for consistency, but I was surprised that they refrained from adding penalties to the results, so I replaced the reports for those two games, and all the information are now sourced as it should, Cheers. SteveMc25 (talk) 20:32, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds

Hi Gricehead. I think that the pages about Preliminary Rounds of Coupe de France before 2019 are too long. It would be better split the preliminary rounds pages creating one article for each regional qualification. What do you think about it? DrSalvus (talk) 18:34, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

@Dr Salvus: It has been discussed on some of the talk pages for those articles. It's on my long list of things to do at some point, but so far down I'll probably never get to it. If you want to do it, go for it. Just remember when you create each sub-article that you need to attribute the original article in the first edit summary to maintain the link to the article history. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 08:27, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
I will do it, but please could you write a prose text for each page that I am going to write? Unfortunately I am not a native English speaker. DrSalvus (talk) 15:28, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
I have just create the page about 2018–19 Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds, Overseas departments and territories. DrSalvus (talk) 16:36, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Collapsible tables

Per WP:ACESS it would be better switch all collapsible tables in normal tables in the pages about Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds. Dr Salvus 19:13, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

@Dr Salvus: So do it then. Gricehead (talk) 19:40, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Which format should we use? I think we have to choose whether to use the format you used or that of @Stevie fae Scotland:. The discussion that took place on WT: FOOTY did not clear up our doubts. Dr Salvus 18:42, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
@Dr Salvus: There's no firm consensus to go back and change the articles, other than to remove the collapsible element of the tables to comply with MOS:ACCESS. But, if someone wants to go and change all the tables to @Stevie fae Scotland:'s style there's no firm consensus to change back. Personally, I think the style I previously used was neater, especially when combined with collapsible tables, but I can't overrule MOS:ACCESS so I'm not going to try. I don't intend to revisit these articles any more, because I'm getting more than a little tired with people pulling apart the many, many hours of my time I've given to them since you started mentioning them everywhere. Over to you (or any other interested editor) I guess. Gricehead (talk) 07:12, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Now I will go back to creating the articles on the preliminary rounds of the Coupe de France using your format. We'll see what @Stevie fae Scotland: will do later. @Nehme1499: was in favor of the SFS's format but I am in favor of yours. Let's see how they will react Dr Salvus 08:03, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

That's not really in the spirit of good faith. You shouldn't do something to potentially bait another editor. I appreciate you've been looking for a firm answer on this and not gotten one because there's been a limited amount of comment. Gricehead and I have put our views forward so use that to inform the best way to construct these articles. Provided the tables are not collapsed by default then they will accord with WP:ACCESS, just bear in mind there will be other policies to consider as well. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 14:30, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
@Stevie fae Scotland: I was wrong. I went out of my way to get an answer. What do we do? Dr Salvus 16:19, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
You and Gricehead have done a lot of good work on these articles and I think you should continue doing it. My advice would be to create them in the style you think is best (whether that's the way I did it or not) so long as any collapsible tables are auto-expanded. If another editor comes along and changes things, then ask them why and consider anything we may have overlooked before you decide how to proceed. Personally, I don't think that will happen but it is worth bearing in mind.
I did want to engage more with this sooner than I have but I've gotten bogged down in a dispute over national team results articles which has taken a lot out of me. It's been frustrating otherwise I might have been able to help you more. I hope this does help though. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 19:26, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
@Stevie fae Scotland: Thank you. Okay we cleared up. The tables edited by Gricehead were already expanded and looked more elegant to me. To be faster we can collaborate. You do the preliminary rounds of the 2015–16 and 2016–17 tournaments, I do the rest. But remember that for the MOS:FLAGS we canmnot have to include flags for overseas teams. Dr Salvus 19:40, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
No promises but I'll see what I can do. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 20:06, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

@Stevie fae Scotland: Yesterday I've finished to split for 2017–18 Coupe de France Dr Salvus 10:36, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

You're a star Dr Salvus, great work. Thank you. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 10:39, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Re:Question and advice

I thought a lot about the question you asked me Why are you so desperate to become a rollbacker? and I would like to ask you How do you not get obsessed with user rights, edit count, FA or FL articles and so on?. I would like to ask if you are willing to communicate with me in French as English is my third language. Dr Salvus 20:17, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Does that mean I can't go check Special:RecentChanges? Dr Salvus 20:37, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
@Dr Salvus: sorry, but per WP:ENGLISHPLEASE, talk page discussion here will be in English. I will try to keep it simple so that you can use Google Translate.
I am here to build and maintain an Encyclopaedia. Nothing else. I get pleasure from an article being complete and up to date. If someone else wishes to promote an article to GA or FA then that is fine. Lists don't really interest me as they often can't be complete within the guidelines. Especially in football. I have no idea what my edit count is, and I have never sought additional user rights. I definitely do not want to be an administrator, as it is a very stressful role.
You can edit any part of WP and do any task you like. That is the beauty of the project. But do it quietly. If you eventually do want to be an administrator, you will have to pass wp:RFA. In that process all your edits will be examined, and attempting to hat collect (WP:HATCOLLECT) will work against you. Many years quiet work, and many thousands of uncontroversial edits, will serve you better. Nobody expects you not to make mistakes. Everybody expects you to learn from mistakes, listen to feedback and act on it. If you do this, it might eventually be noticed, and someone might put you forward for additional permissions.
All just my opinion, of course.
And of course you can check Special:RecentChanges. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 11:10, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

I spoke with Nehme1499 and Vaselineeeeeeee in Italian and I had no problems. Thanks for the advice you gave me anyway Dr Salvus 11:38, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

"currently"

Hi there. Quick heads-up: per MOS:RELTIME words such as "currently" should be avoided. I've removed it at Bryan Bergougnoux. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 17:42, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

France national amateur football team

Hello Gricehead. There is a task you could help me with. I learned thanks to this that from 1951 to 1987, the France team participating in the Mediterranean Games was not the France national football B team but the France national amateur football team. All the articles of "Football at the [insert year] Mediterranean Games" from 1951 to 1987 have the France B team. Could you help me replacing all these with the France Amateurs? Thanks. Paul Vaurie (talk) 15:03, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

@Paul Vaurie: Done for 1955, 1967, 1971, 1975, 1979, 1983, 1987. Something probably needs doing to the main Football at the Mediterranean Games article, but that's going to be more tricky and might be better just using footnotes in the appropriate section. Regards, Gricehead (talk) 07:30, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for that! I will look at what can be done at the main article. Paul Vaurie (talk) 11:55, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Edit filter you'd requested weeks ago

I'd say it is about time to improve the edit filter you'd requested so it can disallow such edits when certain strings can be outputted like what Robby.is.on and you noticed today, e.g. "Sid Dixon" on the Scott Brown article. Pinging @ProcrastinatingReader: as the user who'd disallowed previous strings before. I believe it can be done. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 14:45, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

I agree. However, I think this particular LTA has enough about them to read what is being suggested and adjust their behaviour accordingly, so we might need it to be discussed somewhere less public. Gricehead (talk) 15:11, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Feel free to send me an email with the latest diffs. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 18:34, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

In your opinion, is now the correct Moment to create the page? Dr Salvus 17:21, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Dr Salvus:. I am currently drafting 2021–22 Coupe de France preliminary rounds, and hope to publish it in the middle of next week. We would normally wait until the end of July to start the main article, but you can start drafting it now. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 19:28, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Kyle Vassell

Hello, can you please explain why other players have their new club and Kyle Vassell doesn't

Hi. I noticed that someone has created the page, but I draftied it (it hasn't been ready for the mainspace). Could you help me to make it an article ready for the mainspace please? Dr Salvus 14:37, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

@Dr Salvus: Finally got round to this, only a month later! Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 21:19, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

@Dr Salvus: I saw the email. I haven't acted on it because I don't agree with it. The table of dates on the page in question are taken from the sources quoted, which is preferable. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 17:32, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
You're right. However after some months, the dates are no longer avaible in the various sites. For example, I can no longer see the dates of the fitxtures of the preliminary rounds of the previous season, so I do believe the sources should be archived in order to always be able to see them. Dr Salvus 17:44, 23 October 2021 (UTC) I also apologise for my grammatical mistakes (as I did recently) Dr Salvus 17:46, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Feel free to archive. I've always thought it would be an improvement if Wikipedia archived it's own sources. Gricehead (talk) 17:48, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

For the mess I've made, I'll keep the previous status quo. The amount of patience needed to change all the capital letters is very high but I don't have any. I won't do anything at the 2021-22 pages. I'll complete the work of restoring the status quo tomorrow. Dr Salvus 21:01, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

Update on statistics on Leo Hjelde

I reverted the IP updating the table because they only updated the infobox, creating inconsistency between the table and infobox, which has happened several times recently on that specific article. Whenever updates are made, both need to be updated at the same time or the work is just left half done. TylerBurden (talk) 22:42, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi @TylerBurden Thanks for the explanation - yes there's an IP (who used to edit under an account) who updates all the infoboxes immediately after the conclusion of a Rotherham United F.C. game. They've been informed about updating the date in the infobox and now do that (after a rocky start), so they've proved they're capable of improving their editing and are operating in good faith. I'm pretty sure they would also update the stats table if they were properly coached on it.

However, I've never seen it stated that the stats table and the infobox must be updated together. Both have their own dates and therefore the information in both is correct even if one is updated (as long as the relative date is updated). I'm not personally convinced it's revert-worthy. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 09:03, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Yea I tried to leave a message to them letting them know about the table needing to be updated as well, but their edits are coming from many different IP's which may make it difficult for them to see messages. I have seen on other football articles that incomplete updates are reverted, but the revert was mostly an attempt to hopefully get them to see that there is a table to keep in date as well rather than only the infobox. Since they are clearly acting in good faith and seem to be difficult to reach it's probably just better to complete the table update after they change the infobox. TylerBurden (talk) 20:52, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

I looked through the edits and they seemed accurate, but just wanted to check in with you that there aren't any issues. DatGuyTalkContribs 09:33, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

And would also be interested if you find it useful or just annoying. DatGuyTalkContribs 09:34, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
The only edit I noticed that wasn't 100% correct since the bot restarted was [1] which was made on 29 March, to update for games which took place on 28 March, but set the update date for the table to 29 March, resulting in an inccorect statement of Updated to match(es) played on 29 March 2023.

I wouldn't say I find the edits annoying. Personally they take away some of the enjoyment on editing these articles (I still have to come back each game day and update top scorers, and the infobox, so it's not like it takes away all the enjoyment.)

If the bot could be targeted at tables where there aren't any regularly active editors, it would definitely be really useful for the encyclopedia. Most of the ones I edit are updated within 24 hours. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 09:51, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
Editing niche tables is precisely the reason I filed the task, but it seems the Championnat National is still updated quickly. If you have any ideas, feel free to let me know. Utopianly, footballing statistics will be centralised, so whenever a fourth tier Sammarinese club plays a match it doesn't need to be manually updated across 22 players, two managers, and the season article. I doubt the willingness of the community to implement such a sweeping change and unsure of the implementation of it. DatGuyTalkContribs 10:24, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
