Welcome back
Hope you had an exciting, relaxing, invigorating, and interesting holiday. DoubleBlue (talk) 17:51, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, everything was great on the trip exfor except for flying back. Mainly because practically no one flys into Syracuse and the only flight (that I was supposed to be on Friday night) was cancelled Thursday night because of "weather". Other than that everything was good including switching airlines and going into Buffalo and driving in Saturday morning. Haha, hope you had a good week too.--Giants27 (c|s) 17:57, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Reasonably good. Saturday afternoon was very frustrating. DoubleBlue (talk) 18:01, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Friday then was much better though. Haha :P--Giants27 (c|s) 18:08, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- DeAndra' Cobb is looking to be a really great story this year. You should check out the Drew Edwards story I added to the Further reading section of his article. DoubleBlue (talk) 18:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- *Speechless*.--Giants27 (c|s) 18:39, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

- Another story I saw last week was the Stampeders kickers in a bloody fight at practice. You recall Burke Dales is the guy who aspired to NFL and agreed to Winnipeg but signed to Calgary and then wrote a blog mocking teammate Canadian Grey Cup MOP Sandro DeAngelis. I think there is a lot of tension in Stampeder-land. They had a shoving match between DBs during a game in week 4 and Nik Lewis seems to take a shot at fellow receivers in this week's blog. DoubleBlue (talk) 18:59, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Haha, easily the funniest thing I've read in a while, what do they want to be both the K and P like Justin Medlock? Haha. And jeez, maybe that's why he's on reserve this week.--Giants27 (c|s) 19:13, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Lewis was a late scratch last week to allow more time to recover from an injury but he did play yesterday. DoubleBlue (talk) 19:18, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ahhh, okay that makes sense but I'm assuming Ryan and Copeland aren't too happy unless it's just "sibling rivalry".--Giants27 (c|s) 19:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

How I wish we could put this pic on Prechae Rodriguez article! DoubleBlue (talk) 21:09, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Wow! No kidding what a great picture/video. Why do basically all images have to be Copyrighted don't the know Wikipedia needs them. Haha--Giants27 (c|s) 21:21, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe post a link to the photog's page http://www.ronscheffler.com/blog/?p=145 I don't know. It's just so pretty. DoubleBlue (talk) 21:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- He's a professional sports photographer. I seriously doubt he would give up the rights to such sweet pics. They pay his rent, keep his wife, and feed his kids. DoubleBlue (talk) 02:07, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Byrne's story on the fight was too funny! Not sure if I should tell it though...►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:52, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

- Haha! Hilarious, sounds like he got a pretty good view of the fight.--Giants27 (c|s) 02:09, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah they moved the kicker's locker next to Byrne and they are no longer rooming on the road.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:37, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Categories
Hey, I noticed you replaced some "People from (county/city), (state)" with "Players of American football from (state)". Here are examples of what I mean: [1] [2] [3]. Please discontinue doing that, as both should be included. While, for example, "Players of American football from Missouri" recurses "People from Missouri", it does not recurse "People from St. Louis, Missouri", so both should be included. Thanks. Strikehold (talk) 21:17, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- No problem.--Giants27 (c|s) 21:18, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah it's only the major primary category you'd leave out, not different sub-cats.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:04, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

I am curious about the hook choice. Did you have a rationale?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 02:40, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- Not really but to me it was the best option available simply because it had the best hook into the article since it explains she won her first championship at 13.--Giants27 (c|s) 02:49, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- You may have a point. It is not the hook that would draw me to the article the best, but I see your point.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 05:01, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Infoboxes for CFL players
Since you seem to be more involved in the CFL community here, I was wondering if you knew why do we still use two different infoboxes for CFL players? As far as I can tell, NFLactive includes all the necessary fields at this point.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:24, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- As I understand it, it's all because with Template:Infobox Gridiron football person, you can just remove the team and number fields for retired players (kind of like Template:Infobox MLB player). However, I agree with both sides, it makes sense for retired players yet it's essentially the same but bigger. I'd be willing to change to the NFLactive infobox if the ability to remove the team and number fields are added.--Giants27 (c|s) 21:30, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah I mean, it doesn't make sense to have different infoboxes unnecessarily. We should be able to use them across all leagues. I wonder the best way of going about it though...►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:32, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- Probably being able to remove the team and number fields and allowing for the addition of coaching years/organizations.--Giants27 (c|s) 21:34, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

So...
I kind of feel like if we see someone undertaking a project, we shouldn't cut in the middle of it without talking to that person. Kind of the same idea as doing the player articles after transactions.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:28, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Huh?--Giants27 (c|s) 21:30, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Like I was fixing up the Locomotives player pages, and you jumped in right at the next one I was going to do.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:32, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Really? Hmm...my bad yeah didn't see you were working on it since none are on my watchlist.--Giants27 (c|s) 21:35, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Wouldn't it be a pretty big coincidence that you started doing the same thing I was doing, especially halfway down the roster where I'd left off (at the DTs)?►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:37, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Not really, considering I was working off the navbox and went with Wendell Bryant and Ezra Butler as they were the next two without navboxes (which I assumed someone created a while ago) and then with Teddy Lehman I accidentally clicked on him instead of Adam Bergen (who's right above him in the navbox).--Giants27 (c|s) 21:41, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Ah okay, thought you were going off the roster template, not the navbox. That makes sense.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:42, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
UFL rosters
Hey, I just wanted to let you know my current plan with the UFL rosters and see if you're alright with it.
So far, only LV and NY have had press releases regarding signings, and I imagine they've held off on announcing more because of this week's unveiling of the team names and uniforms. I expect more formal announcements on signings in the next week or so.
Because the drafted players are not necessarily going to sign and play in the UFL, and the reports of player signings are kind of random and come from everywhere, I think it might be best to stick to the league's press releases regarding signings for now. While it's true that it's all verifiable, I think by keeping it strictly to league announcements for now, we can avoid any confusion and incorrect additions to the templates. What do you think?►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:58, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Not a bad idea. Mainly because every couple of days I'll see some report that some guy signed but it's coming from some message board, very strange so far. But, I'd agree that sticking to league announcements is the way to go to make sure everything is completely accurate.--Giants27 (c|s) 21:02, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah the problem here is we had people add every drafted player to the template and added all the info to the players' articles. The problem with that is it was not a draft in the traditional sense, it was just a selection of players' rights should they choose to play in the league. Not all will.
- But anyway, so far I've only seen a press releases about Las Vegas signing 19 (plus a mention of the Losman signing) and New York signing 19. I'm following UFL-Football.com and UFLAccess.com, plus their respective twitters for more announcements, so you could too if you want to keep an eye out.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:06, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- As you said the other problem is that people added all the stuff to the player articles so afterwards if they don't sign then those articles are now wrong. And I'll watch those, thanks.--Giants27 (c|s) 21:16, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah I guess what we can do there is, update/clean up the player articles as the signings are announced, and then once the league starts we could go though the draft list and fix any player articles of guys that ended up not signing if we choose.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:36, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, good idea.--Giants27 (c|s) 21:42, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Admin coaching
Hello. I noticed your request for a coach over at Admin coaching, and I'm available. If you do not currently have an admin coach, I would be glad to be your coach. I do have a few of conditions though, and they are that you:
- watchlist your coaching page (and any subpages), and reply to every post there in a timely fashion, even if it's just a short "OK" to acknowledge receipt of the comment.
- fill in all of your edit summaries (if you find yourself forgetting, there's a setting in "my preferences" that will remind you).
- complete all the assignments you are given to the best of your ability. If you have trouble with an assignment, by all means, let me know, so we can discuss possible solutions and alternatives.
- don't go for your RfA or accept an RfA nomination except from me; I will nominate you when I believe you are ready.
Please let me know if you agree, and we can get started.
I look forward to your reply.

Free agent cats
What do intend to do about it? A deletion review? The decision has been made, and though I hadn't seen the discussion till I noticed a removal notice link somewhere today, I'm reluctantly inclined to agree. Categories are not supposed to be temporary states but defining characteristics of the subject. DoubleBlue (talk) 21:57, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- No, but doing that is drastic to stretch it all over to every such category since the discussion was about one not all, feel free to open a CfD.--Giants27 (c|s) 22:09, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- They are identical situations. How can we remove the call to NFL Free agents but not CFL Free agents and prospects unless you disagree with the decision? If you want, I will CfD the CFL free agents and broadcast the CfD more widely for discussion because I don't think any football people knew it was going on. DoubleBlue (talk) 22:16, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Go ahead, I might actually say delete, but what I wanted is to see more than one person vote delete and then it's closed.--Giants27 (c|s) 22:35, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- I agree with you there. I'm surprised that there was no notification given except on the category page itself. DoubleBlue (talk) 22:40, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Oh the dramaz
I don't particularly feel like getting into it at the moment and my connection issues continue (I'm investigating your tip) but Da'shawn Thomas brings up another issue. I think all notable football players can have the same infobox. In his case particularly since he's played pro but any player could have the same infobox. Also, from a Canadian perspective, until the 1950s, universities were able to challenge for the Grey Cup. DoubleBlue (talk) 00:22, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Are you talking about the infobox change? If so, I did that because "Western Ontario Mustangs" is compatible with it and plus all the info such as him playing with the Georgia Generals and being a member of the Argos are in there so I figured why not.--Giants27 (c|s) 00:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I mean all gridiron football players could use the same infobox: pro, CIS, college. DoubleBlue (talk) 20:31, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Wouldn't be hard to do, considering all you have to do is copy the colors from Template:CollegePrimaryColor and the like to Template:NFLPrimaryColor and the like.--Giants27 (c|s) 20:52, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I mean all gridiron football players could use the same infobox: pro, CIS, college. DoubleBlue (talk) 20:31, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
DYK nomination of Quincy Monk
Hello! Your submission of Quincy Monk at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! CzechOut ☎ | ✍ 17:57, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- The infobox comment goes along with a comment to Chris that I made a while ago that I thought was apropos but turned out to be out of the blue: The "College" line might be changed to something like "Last amateur team". That would cover all possible situations of how a person comes into pro sports and is clear about what is expected to find in the link. You wouldn't need separate parameters for CIS, high school, or other. Something to chew on. I've been chewing on the thought for a while without doing anything about it. DoubleBlue (talk) 20:28, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

- When Category:Canadian Football League free agents and Category:National Football League free agents were up, if they weren't going to be deleted I'd still be doing it since some players who never played in the NFL had the NFLactive infobox so it didn't make sense to do it the usual way.--Giants27 (c|s) 22:04, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I just didn't know if it was your common practice or what. So you don't do it anymore?►Chris NelsonHolla! 22:02, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oh okay. Yeah that's not a very good solution to that problem, since things like "CFL free agent" don't make sense. I'm not even sure those categories need to exist anyway.►Chris NelsonHolla! 22:08, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
- There's currently a CfD for the CFL one and the NFL one as you can tell has already been deleted.--Giants27 (c|s) 22:12, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
null edit
You don't need to do a null edit with the guy's full name if he's already done it with the last name. At least in the case of Datish, where there's no one else in the league with that last name. If we go into the history and CTRL-F and start typing in datish, we're gonna find it. I'd only do it if it were a common name, like williams or smith.►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:45, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- I did it for people like me who type in the whole name, not just the last name since I expect to find him under his full name.--Giants27 (c|s) 00:46, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oh. Well it's kind of a waste of an edit to make a null edit when it's not really necessary, so you should probably just search by last name.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:00, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Infobox
Infobox looks pretty good. A few things:
- How are the numbers/team doing to work for retired guys?
- Can you add ufl and af2 stats?
- I removed the AFL stat year because the league is now defunct, so that way we don't have to keep changing years in guys' infoboxes (through 2008, though 2009, etc.) If it ever comes back, we could change it back. We need to nowiki thing there so the section header shows up though.►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:20, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- I can't figure it out, but why does Rob Bironas have a big space at the top? Something to do with his infobox...►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:38, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Damn, what the heck is up with that? No other page has that right?--Giants27 (c|s) 02:39, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Terrell Maze does too, but not as big of one...wtf?►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:40, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- It's the UFL and af2 stats, Samson Satele, too...--Giants27 (c|s) 02:41, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
I see that...weird...►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:42, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Not sure why it did that, it's the same code as all the others...--Giants27 (c|s) 02:44, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Is the space getting bigger depending on which league stats are being used? This is weird.►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:54, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think so, the AFL has no whitespace, the CFL has a small amount and the NFL has the biggest, really weird...--Giants27 (c|s) 02:59, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah I don't know why that would be...►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:00, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'm gonna remove the statseason thing and see if that's it.--Giants27 (c|s) 03:04, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Think we need an expert...►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:08, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah. Help desk or the helpme template?--Giants27 (c|s) 03:11, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
{{helpme}}
- Hahah did DoubleBlue just fix it?►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:24, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Erm. Not sure what you are asking for help with; I've read the above, but I can't see any specific problems. I see thhat another comment has been added, so...is it fixed now? If so, please remove the helpme. If not, please could you give clear info, ie which article and which part is incorrect. Thanks, Chzz ► 03:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- The problem has almost been fixed. There is a small white space at the top of a player's article if he has the NFL stats fields. See Ernest Wilford. Someone without them (or with another league's stat fields like Terrell Maze) doesn't have the space. We need to eliminate the space.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:41, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
I believe it's corrected now. DoubleBlue (talk) 03:48, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Seems right. Good job!►Chris NelsonHolla! 04:03, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- What did you do to fix it?--Giants27 (c|s) 12:45, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Interruption
Please don't interrupt someone doing a list of edits, you're causing conflicts. Pats1 and I always let one person take the PFW edits when they begin it.►Chris NelsonHolla! 14:26, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- You started? Sorry, we must've saw them at the same time.--Giants27 (c|s) 14:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oh I guess you started from today. I went chronologically, since they updated the last three days.
- Also, you're missing some transactions so make sure you get them all, otherwise we have to go back over it again.►Chris NelsonHolla! 14:29, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ah yeah, looked right over them.--Giants27 (c|s) 14:31, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah even if you think one's been done, it's best just to go to each template and make sure.►Chris NelsonHolla! 14:32, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Multiple info boxes
There is no policy against multiple infoboxes. They are common. See Jim Bunning, Bill Bradley, Jon Burge, Rob Pelinka, etc.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 15:38, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I know that, however there is no reason to have it. His college jersey number, the college he attended, his collegiate position etc. are covered in the text. While with the changes to the NFLactive infobox, his high school can be listed there. Thus, there's no use for the second infobox.--Giants27 (c|s) 15:46, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
