Identity

Hello Futureobservatory, I'm guessing you're David Mercer based on your recent edits. Unfortunately, without some sort of proof of this, we can't use things from your site, as you could just be someone impersonating David Mercer. Can you offer some sort of proof so that we can use your sites pictures? We'd also have to cut out a lot of what you added to the Tigray region article, as it's just what you said word for word and not in encyclopedic style.

From what I can tell your images are needed, & all it takes to accept your kind donations is to provide: the source of your images (e.g., did you take these photos?), & the license they have been donated to Wikipedia under. Please stopy copying content of websites

... even if you wrote the original content. If you can provide a proof that you're the original author, ok (And even then, I'd discourage adding links to your own site). A few of your recent edits are copyright violations (I looked mostly at Marketing Research and Simple random sample.

These are additions from my own website and thence from my books. As such copyright is not a problem - where short quotations of other authors for use in research or scholarship/teaching is acceptable. Futureobservatory

Marking edits minor

I noticed that this edit that you made yesterday to the market share article was marked minor. I reviewed your contribs history and this seems not to be an isolated incident. Please review Help:Minor edit, which defines a minor edit to be a small typo correction or formatting adjustment. Any edit that changes the content or meaning of an article (such as adding an entire new section or paragraph or changing many words) should not be marked minor, even if you do not consider it a particularly important addition to the article. Marking an edit minor may "hide" the edit from users who are watching the page for major edits, which is bad faith editing if you are making more than an incidental change. By the way, I don't want to sound too harsh here, I only opted for a RfC becaue nothing else seemed to work.

As far as I can tell there are three possibilities:

You are not David Mercer, you are some kid that's pretending to be him. I find that extremely unlikely, but having some nice solid proof would be much better.
You are David Mercer, but you do not have the right to release some of your material under the GFDL, because of a contract with your publisher. I find this quite likely, at least for some of your material.
You are David Mercer, and have the full rights to put your works under the GFDL. In which case there is no problem, and it'd be nice to know it as soon as possible.

In any case, it's probably better for you to discuss a bit with wikipedians what's ok and no ok to write. Not that it's wrong to be bold in the first place :) Flammifer 05:01, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The text is from my own website, and is based on books that have sold around 100,000 copies; so it has been subjected to rigorous tests. I try to keep the hyperlinks to the minimum, but insert them so that readers may know the source and explore further if they wish. They all connect to my free website so there are no commercial considerations. Indeed, as Yom has indicated, the website is all mine, and all material on it is my copyright or is in the public domain (which my various publishers have checked for me). As proof of the availability of this material on Wikipedia, my friend who I rely on a friend to run my website has now added a link to wikipedia to the main pages. I have removed material from Pricing strategies as it was copied directly from a website, from reading the above it might appear that it is your own website, but I would still be a little concerned about using this material, as the only copyright notice I could find on that website says "Copyright © 2005 Milton Keynes University of the Third Age Marshworth project & David Mercer". Sorry about that error. This copyright must have 'drifted' from eslewhere on the server (which has 5,000+ pages and 30,000 links) which at an earlier time (but no longer) also held material from the local U3A - of which I was then chairman. Welcome again

It's taken me a while to come up to speed on the issues you encountered with your early contributions. Looking over your user page, it's pretty clear that Wikipedia needs to keep you on board. But you can't just paste your works without modification. I understand that when writing a book for publication, it's natural to project yourself into the book and to add "zest" to hold the reader's interest. The standard for an encyclopedia is different. The articles have to stick to what is verifiable and independent of one editor's interpretations.

Also note that citation links do not belong in headings, but should follow the relevant text, and should have one pair of brackets. (double brackets are for links to Wikipedia articles).
