Hiya
Hello, Funandtrvl. Your post on my user talk escaped my immediate attention and I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you. Thanks for your congratulations and to answer your question, I did not attend UA. Alas, when I was of college age I was too poor and lacked the motivation to consider UA. It was good hearing from you...keep up the good work Tiderolls 01:49, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- No problem, but with a handle like "Tide rolls", sure thought you are, at least, a good fan!! Cheers, --Funandtrvl (talk) 17:09, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Source formatting
Hi Funandtrvl! I have noticed that you changed the formatting of a source in the article Third Battle of Mount Hermon. I must say that I am puzzled by both changes. While it might be proper to include co-authors (this can be discussed separately), I can't say I understand why the Hebrew title is necessary when the book has an English title (not my translation, but the book's own title in English). Also I am puzzled by the use of diacritics, like in "Karṭa". I am assuming that you copied these from WorldCat, but assure you that diacritics are not used in most publications and/or citations, and are confusing to the reader. What is the reasoning behind your edits? Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 20:45, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, for some reason WorldCat has it that way, but I've fixed it now to remove the diacritics. Thanks for the help! --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:49, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- No problem. Still two things though:
- 1) Why is the Hebrew title necessary?
- 2) The publisher field is still incorrect. The book was co-published by Carta and the ministry, while right now it implies as if they are the same publishing house.
- I can easily fix these issues myself, but would like to hear your reasoning very much, in order to avoid edit wars in the future (since I used this source and similar ones in dozens of articles, it should be consistent). I would also like to here what you found problematic in the way that the source was formatted before. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 21:03, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- No problem. Still two things though:
- My reasoning/thoughts were to be thorough and informative (not that you weren't). Because the 2nd book is written in Hebrew (no reason why the Hebrew title shouldn't be listed--the German-language books usually list the German title only), I believe it's better to use one template (cite book), which already has the "language" parameter in it, instead of two templates together, (cite book and he icon). In addition, the instructions for cite book recommend using the "real" title, and then "trans_title" (for the English Wikipedia readers). In reality, there isn't anything wrong with your formatting, but it is less confusing to use the one template, instead of two. The other problems with the original citations were: 1) Jehuda Lothar Wallach's first name was incorrectly spelled; and 2) Rabinovich's book was originally published in 2004 (hardcover), the 2005 edition was paperback. Regarding the publisher parameter, should it read "Carta and Ministry of Defense-Publications"? Thanks, --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:36, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- One more thing- the "pages" or "page" parameter: These parameters are for listing the pages relevant to the citation, not the total number of pages in the book. That is why I removed it. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:52, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hi again! About using two templates, it's something I didn't do until I initiated a discussion at one of the citation templates' talk pages (might've been a couple years ago), asking why not all of the citation templates had a language field (I believe they do today), but the users there told me that the lang icon template was standard for indicating language and was preferable to the language field, and since then I use it. I don't really see a problem with having two templates.
- Regarding the title's language, I cordially disagree, for two reasons: a) Most Hebrew-language books from the year 2001 or so have official English titles precisely for this reason—to avoid English-speakers from having to use or translate the Hebrew title, because b) Hebrew is not readable to English-speakers, unlike German or most other languages.
- Using English titles or even translations for Hebrew books is completely standard in English-language publications today. Every English-language history book I have lists the titles for these books in English.
- Finally, you are right that Wallach's name should be spelled Jehuda, I'll correct it ASAP in other citations. However, I don't see the merit in including his middle name in the citation—it's not included in the book, therefore it's problematic if we include it. About the publisher: In this particular citation, we are in agreement.
- Please let me know what you think about the title issue especially, since, as I said before, these citations are spread over dozens of articles, and whatever system we use, it should be consistent. If we can't reach an agreement, we should transfer the discussion to a broader forum eventually.
- Looking forward to your reply. Cheers, Ynhockey (Talk) 21:35, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- One more thing- the "pages" or "page" parameter: These parameters are for listing the pages relevant to the citation, not the total number of pages in the book. That is why I removed it. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:52, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Response:
- I haven't seen any references lately that using 2 templates is standard practice, since the "cite" templates all have the language option now. It's not necessary to change the others to one template, just for the sake of it. I changed it since I was already updating the name and year corrections, and am used to having it all within one template. If you're more comfortable using the 2 templates, that's fine with me. However, when I do come across formats that aren't following the usual "cite book" format, don't worry if you see me changing/updating them, as that is just my preference.
- Yes, the alphabet is different. If they have official English titles, then I don't see a problem with not listing the Hebrew title (or listing it for that matter), either way is fine with me.
- Using a middle name, if it's available, is fine, if not, it doesn't matter to me.
- In summary, yes, the incorrect spelling should be updated. As for the original year (2004), it would be nice to add it, but it's not absolutely necessary. As for the middle initial, it's also optional, per preferences of each editor. Also, the title in Hebrew and/or English is an optional preference, based on the editor. I hope this explains my viewpoint! --Funandtrvl (talk) 23:11, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:34, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Re: David Zenon Jacome-Moreira
Hello Funandtrvl,
I was simply trying to translate David Zenon Jacome-Moreira into Spanish, I don't believe the page should be deleted since there hasn't been any problems with this page, and it's linked to other important pages. It's been referenced from outside sources, and fixed multiple times from Wikipedia.
It would be great to have this fixed, and be also to view the page in Spanish as well. The link for the Spanish page was: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Zenon_Jacome-Moreira
Thanks, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.83.62.19 (talk) 06:30, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- I wasn't involved in editing the Spanish version, but I see that the Spanish version was deleted, per G3-Promocional. For the English version, I also didn't have anything to do with deleting the page, my edit was to restore the "COI" template back to the page, which you removed, see: [1]. I see now that the maintenance templates have been changed to notability and autobiography, which are also related to COI. Please address those concerns regarding the article first. Thank you, --Funandtrvl (talk) 15:45, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Did you know?
...that deleting factual information from an article, as you did with Michael_Jacobs_(footballer) without so much as checking it or attempting to add (easily avaiable) sources really is the height of laziness?
imagine if everyone did the same on every article here...129.11.76.216 (talk) 13:25, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- Not only was the addition unsourced (which I explained in my edit summary, contrary to what you claim in your edit summary), but it also did not follow the wording of any sources that were available at the time, per the word "humiliated", which seemed a bit damaging and/or one-sided to Liverpool F.C. Please see: WP:CITE for further guidelines. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:35, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

G1 on templates
Hi. I have removed your CSD:G1 tags from the Ezekiel templates, as G1 is not for things written in plain English. As it says at Wikipedia:Csd, it is for "Pages consisting entirely of incoherent text or gibberish with no meaningful content or history". The templates are all up for TfD, at Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion#Template:Ezuw-vandalism4, so please feel free to comment there if you wish. Okay. I joined the wiki templates project. I like wiki messages with nuvola/svg images for some odd reason. Anyway, I found a way to warn users without having to go back to the pages the template messages are on to copy it. Here it is;
Ezekiel! Talk to meh.See what I'm doin'. 00:15, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- Very creative, but will it also tie into the uw-vandal level warning system, so it will number the comment, so Huggle and Twinkle will work with it? --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:20, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I guess. I also created a new template; ezuw-vandalism5b. It's a level 4 message (level 5 to me) that is supposed to be the first warning message offered. Should only be used in extreme cases. Ezekiel! Talk to meh.See what I'm doin'. 00:43, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

High-performance computing - External links
Thanks for the clarification on external links. From my reading of the docs, it sounds like it would be appropriate to add Dell to the list of providers with a link to Dell. Am I correct? Thanks! DellTechWebGuy (talk) 04:52, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, but also include a ref to the page on the Dell website concerning the specific topic. The whole external link sections really need to be pruned/cleaned up on several of those pages, because they're amass with promotional crap. If you could help, that would be great! Thanks, --Funandtrvl (talk) 16:55, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- Oops. Looks like there is no list of providers on High-performance_computing, so I guess there really isn't a place to include Dell. If you could give me an idea of which pages you're referring to as needing clean-up, I'll do what I can. Thanks! --DellTechWebGuy (talk) 05:10, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, the best place to check is at WP:WikiProject Computing/Cleanup listing, and see: Category:Computing articles needing attention, and Category:Computing articles needing expert attention (with your knowledge, I'm sure you'd be a great help!) Thanks again, --Funandtrvl (talk) 17:17, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Seeking your input on this Travel article draft
Hi there Funandtrvl, given that you're one of the more well-seasoned Wikipedians within the WikiProject Travel and Tourism, I was hoping to get your input on a draft of an article that currently resides in my userspace here.
Having been diligent about establishing WP:Notability by citing WP:RS, and by writing in accordance with WP:NPOV, I feel that this draft is ready to be moved to mainspace. As the subject happens to have been a client of my employer (which is how I became familiar with the subject matter), I see it as important to disclose any potential WP:COI upfront; though I don't feel that this has affected the neutrality of the article draft (which covers all aspects of the subject, including litigation). In the interest of gaining consensus, I'd like to get a second opinion before doing so. Can you perhaps take a glance and let me know your thoughts? Jeff Bedford (talk) 18:00, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for being of assistance -- I've followed up with you and Vegaswikian at our collective conversation on my user talk page: User_talk:Jeff_Bedford#Proposed_Royal_Holiday_article Thanks much! Jeff Bedford (talk) 20:43, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
I edited the "prayer" page
Howdy. I edited the prayer page. I made 2 changes:
-I just clarified the wording of the 1st sentence of the 2nd paragraph. I don't know why you would delete my edit since all I did was clean up. -My second thing was to add that some Christians pray almost exclusively to Jesus. I know I can't easily look up a citation for this, but I guarantee that it's true from personal experience. I've gone to several Evangelical, Charismatic etc churches in my area and they all do this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.229.76.19 (talk) 19:26, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

"Vintage Season"
Hi. I reverted your HotCat-assisted categorization of "Vintage Season" under "Time Travel Novels" since it's not a novel. Just FYI. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 18:13, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I saw that, I was wondering where to put the short stories/novellas, there doesn't seem to be a category for them! --Funandtrvl (talk) 18:14, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- I just created Category:Time travel in short fiction and moved most of the contents of Category:Time travel literature there. —JerryFriedman (Talk) 05:22, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

The only reason for my revert was because it was a cut-and-paste move, this causes copyright problems because it loses the edit history (see WP:MOVE#Before moving a page). The user should have made a request at WP:RM. January (talk) 18:49, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

- Is it OK if I revert your revert? January (talk) 18:53, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- Well, that might not be a good idea, it's going to mess up all the backlinks. Isn't there a better way to merge histories? --Funandtrvl (talk) 18:57, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- If you contact an admin, it might work better, see: Wikipedia:How to fix cut-and-paste moves. --Funandtrvl (talk) 18:59, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
- The talk page indicates that this could be controversial so I still think it should go back pending discussion. Either way I'll need an admin's assistance so I'll contact one of the WP:RM regulars. January (talk) 19:15, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Citations
Dear Funandtrvl, I received a note from you referencing the need to provide citations for the my edits on Dudleya setchelli. I added the references that clearly show the dialogue, actions and decision making made by Santa Clara county and their board of supervisors regarding approval of the project at Communications Hill and its impact to the local flora and fauna. Part of the mitigation measure that were agreed upon is buried in the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR), which is not available online, but I have personally read. I am a field biologist by education and have worked extensively on habitat and endangered species conservation. It would be nice if someone whom is editing text on an article was equally familiar with the factual basis of an item before simply deleting it. I attempted to link a citation to the statement made, however it did not attach. So if you have better instructions for attaching the citations from non-electronically available documents, please advise.
Cheers -

- First of all, the "source" that you added here: [2] is a dead link, and does not include the dialogue, actions, and decisions, etc., that you are referring to above. Under San Jose's website, there is an entire section for the FEIR reports. Have you checked there if the report you're referring to is online? If not, I would suggest to contact them to email you a pdf file, that you can reference in the article, because the information needs to be cited, and should not be added unless a source is found, preferably online. Secondly, your formating needs to be corrected. Please use {{cite web}} or similar for adding the reference to the article. Thirdly, it does not matter whether I am equally familiar with the subject matter as you may be, my removal of your addition is related to WP:RS and WP:V. --Funandtrvl (talk) 17:38, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi my name is John Forrest. I recently tried to post an addition to the resources area of the Self Esteem page. I would like to post my site on this page about Self esteem because I believe it adds alot of value on a very misunderstood science. I understand that my site currently doesn't meet the standards for admission but I would like to know what I can do to have my website part of this article because I do believe it adds value to the resource that is not currently there. Re: Signiphoridae talk
Re: this edit to Talk:Signiphoridae I would like to have the article removed from these categories. Sorry I simply went ahead and deleted it. I feel putting a page on "low importance category" is not only unnecessary (if it's not important, people will not be looking at it and therefore you don't have to tell them it's not important), it's also innacurate. "Low importance" is not the same as "low priority". As you can see, it does have some importance for some of us. You should know this is very common when you're dealing with organisms. --Land Moil (talk) 19:40, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- It's better just to re-assess it, instead of deleting the WikiProject tag altogether. So I've re-assessed it as a start/mid. --Funandtrvl (talk) 19:44, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- "Low importance" is not a useful tag. It's misleading. The reader is the one who should decide what is high or low "importance". You guys should get rid of it. And, it's offensive if you happen to be working with the organism in question. --Land Moil (talk) 19:52, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Science enthusiast...
Hello
This is Afterrock81. Why do you insist on taking out a valid claim? What right do you have to limit valid theories from being understood by the general public? ALL THEORIES of how life on Earth began are rooted in pure faith. ALL of them. Even yours. Once it can be proven and re-proven life started from abiogenesis, then it will no longer be a theory.
The only reason I added this section here (and not on a different page) is because the search for "Origins of Life" redirected to the page showing only possible theories of spontaneous biogenesis. Once this tag is removed (and others general enough to include abiogenesis), I will gladly remove my section from this post. Until then, it belongs there as it is a perfectly valid (though, likewise unproven) theory.

my comment
??? As I pointed out, I do not know how to reference the website properly. I have looked at the website and it is a valid source. Therefore, rather than remove the information, I would appreciate it if you would correct the link instead. Also, I linked to the other Wikipedia pages as the information is all there.
In my original post, I needed to remove some information- which I did. This time, why don't you let ClueBot identify such problems?
Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Afterrock81 (talk • contribs) 05:52, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
your reversion of minor edit to fiat autos in the united states
Hi, could you please undo your reversion of my edit? I believe my edit improved the neutral point of view of the article yet you undid it citing neutral point of view. This does not make sense to me. The claim that fiat, well renowned at one time as maker of some of the worst vehicles known to mankind, has improved its quality is a pro-fiat claim. For neutrality we should insert the word "alledgedly" to indicate that this claim has not been verified. At this moment fiat has no vehicles in the united states, and mass produced european vehicles in general continue to rank amongst the worst in JD power surveys year after year. There just is no reason to take this claim as fact at the present time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.20.123.143 (talk) 16:12, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
your threats against me
HUH? I merely edited the Venice in High School page to say that the school was in Mar Vista, and for that, you are threatening to block my IP address?!?!?! I deleted the part that said Venice's boundaries extended east of Walgrove Ave., because that's false.

A consideration for cross project consolidation of talk page templates
I have started a conversation here about the possibility of combining some of the United States related WikiProject Banners into {{WikiProject United States}}. It appears that you have been a regular editor or are a member of WikiProject U.S. counties and I thought that project might be interested in doing this. I am going to contact some of the other members of the project as well. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions please take a moment and let me know. ---Kumioko (talk) 06:11, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Edit of Jim Thorpe Article
Perhaps my edit of the Jim Thorpe article (adding 'extreme' before racial inequality) was not the perfect addition, but the statement "during a period of racial inequality" needs to be changed. It implies that at some point in American history there has not been racial inequality, which I do not think is a matter of debate. This phrase should either be removed, or changed to note that this time period had increased inequality if that is true. If not, it should be removed, or restated in such a way that it shows racial inequality is a part of American history. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.155.58.186 (talk) 03:01, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Tom DeLay
The fact that he is a convicted felon is sourced elsewhere in the article. It is not controversial, it is not libel --- it is a NPOV fact determined by a jury of his peers, and very widely publicized. It is also now what he is most notable for, and belongs in the first sentence. I am reverting your revert. 67.62.75.193 (talk) 13:37, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

While I disagree with this user about the image, its quality and its use in the article, there appears to be no justification to using Huggle to revert the Plasticine article. Chemistry reverts
You reverted yesterday night's edits on fluorine chemistry: this one [3], this one [4], this one [5], and this one [6]. All of these were constructive, and they were made to relieve the boredom of late-night labwork. It's evident that you have no notion about chemistry. I'd recommend that you stick to things you know about and take to heart the immortal words of Dieter Nuhr: If you don't have a clue: just shut up. 128.226.130.123 (talk) 19:10, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Done your changes at Template:WikiProject District of Columbia, did you want any protection (semi/full) for Template:WikiProject United States as a high visibility template? Drop me a note if you do. Ronhjones (Talk) 00:39, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think we need that at the moment. But maybe in the future. What do you think? --Kumioko (talk) 00:47, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- I think we should semi-protect, not full protect. That should prevent any anonymous vandalism. --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:49, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- I could go with Semi protect. I am not an administrator so if you fully protect it I won't be able to make any changes to it. --Kumioko (talk) 01:32, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, admin Ronhjones added semi-protect to it, because it's heavily transcluded. Full protection isn't necessary, at this point. --Funandtrvl (talk) 01:35, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

- Some of them have been mine. I can paraphrase and find sources quickly, but doing refs takes me forever, since I'm not sure what tool/shorcuts do it best. I'd rather focus on neutrality issues, phrasing, and such, but if you can give me some pointers I'll try and clean my links up. Thanks for doing it to the others, both of you. - Not a problem, I realize that, and I know it's a pain. I just use the editing tools. Under Preferences-Editing-Beta, turn on Enable enhanced editing toolbar; and under Pref-Gadgets, turn on refTools, if you haven't already. Hello, some questions
I have noticed that you have reverted one of Oldmedia's troublesome edits on the DLSU Pops Orchestra page and warned him (the latter to no avail, I presume). but I want to ask if there is anything that can be towards that said troublesome user? His account page is non-existent (except from his discussions and contributions page, of course) and the reversion that you did was just some of his continued blatant vandalism. I would have done things myself but I'm not really familiar with the things around here as I very rarely go online.
Much, thanks. Pathbinder (talk) 07:04, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- Not only that, all the references have been removed, so I've templated the article as "unreferenced". I've also made a request at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#Help needed at De La Salle University Pops Orchestra for someone knowledgeable about the subject matter to help out. --Funandtrvl (talk) 16:48, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
Military Acronyms
Actually, I have two citations. Please give me an hour to add them as I am busy at the moment.
I can't help noticing the rest of the article has no citations. Also, is it an article, a category or what?
In fairness, I'll bet most or all are real military acronyms, but whoever created this (not me) didn't appear to cite anything.

Problem with the Category you added on the WPUS/Quality content page
It appears that the category you added to the Quality content is causing the show hide boxes to render incorrectly. Its causing all the show hides to bunch to the left. I tried to figure it out but I don't know what the problem is. Would you mind taking a look at it? --Kumioko (talk) 15:47, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
I know I've been leaning on you a lot to help with things in WPUS and I appreciate everything you've done. I noticed that you made some edits over the years to Portal:United States and I was hoping you might be interested in helping out wiht that a bit too. Know that the WikiProject United States is up and running I am looking at focusing some attention on that portal since I feel its under our scope. Would you be interested in helping me get that portal back to featured status again. If not could you offer me any advice as to what needs to be done? I am going to update some content but aside from that I'm not sure. I think that foundation of the portal itself is sound we just need to add/update its content. I figure once its up to speed it shouldn't take more than a couple edits a week to keep it maintained. --Kumioko (talk) 17:33, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Okay to remove Wikipedia:Dead-end pages/Header
Greetings, I've been cleaning out the backlog at Wikipedia:Dead-end pages, and since the backlog is down to just barely the P-T sections, I was thinking to remove the Wikipedia:Dead-end pages/Header filing app from that page (maybe leave a link to it hidden on the page). In it's place, we'd have the bot-populated by-moth WP:DEP listings, and one single page of all the backlog. I know you've worked on the Header, so wanted to check with you first. Proposed here: Wikipedia_talk:Dead-end_pages. Please let me know if you have any objections. MatthewVanitas (talk) 02:01, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, of course, if there's a better way than using the /Header page, I'm all for it!! Thanks --Funandtrvl (talk) 17:42, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Greetings. I just wanted to let you know that I asked about a bot to automatically update the DYK and On this day sections of the portal. The News section is already automatically updated. Not sure how hard this will be but I think its doable and will be a lot better than having to manually do it everyday. I also added a comment to the Portal talk page about adding a section for a featured Project of the Month US related projects of course). Let me know what you think about that idea if you don't mind. I should get done tagging all 685 portal subpages with the category today BTW. --Kumioko (talk) 18:15, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Need help with a template again
I was hoping to not have to bother you and I think its probably something simple I am missing but I modified {{WikiProject Smithsonian Institution-related/sandbox}} to include a taskforce for the Archives of American Art and I hit a snag in the building of Categories. I created the categories I needed and they seem to be working as seen by the Top Importance link in paranthesis after the task force name in the template however it shows the categories in red below that as though they are not seeing the Project at all. Could you take a look and see what I am doing wrong. Thanks. --Kumioko (talk) 04:16, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

You are receiving this because you are one of the principal editors of one of the articles that is linked to Batavia (disambiguation). This notice is being posted to all of the top three editors of each of these articles (in terms of total edits), with the following exceptions:

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.
For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:13, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Sbpages of {{Stub category}}
Hi Funandtrvl - I see you've recently made two subpages for {{Stub category}}. It would have been nice if you'd commented about them at WP:WikiProject Stub sorting before you did so, but even so it would still be worthwhile us knowing exactly why you made them and what purpose they will serve. I've made a comment at WT:WSS - any chance you could add some form of comment about them there, please? Cheers, Grutness...wha? 02:09, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- Please see my response at WT:WSS, and my comments at Template talk:Stub category#Edit request to fix spacing. The template's talk page is normally the place to first discuss changes in the template namespace, not the talk page of main project page, which usually covers many different aspects of the project. If the project prefers it the other way around, then a notice on the talk pages of the project's related templates would be greatly appreciated, so we could be informed. --Funandtrvl (talk) 03:43, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
- There are notices like that on a lot of the category and template talk pages - with so many different stub types, though, several may well have missed out, including that one. Grutness...wha? 01:04, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

WP United States in the Signpost
"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject United States for a Signpost article to be published on the Fourth of July. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Other editors will also have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions and responses may be trimmed if the final article becomes too long. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 22:36, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Your opinion would be appreciated
As a member of WikiProject Countries, I'm seeking your opinion on a possible issue identified at List of sovereign states. If you have some spare moments, please contribute a comment at the Discussion of criteria. Best regards, Nightw 04:58, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks!
Hello Funandtrvl, many thanks for the nice award, and more importantly, for your recent on-the-mark edits of the A Hitler entry! All the best, Malljaja (talk) 14:30, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
Infobox river
Why did you take the "s" off of meters in the infobox? If it is to do with making the template work I don't want to touch it but grammatically it doesn't seem to make sense. Rmhermen (talk) 01:12, 25 June 2011 (UTC)
- I just added the actual name of the linked article, see: Cubic metre per second. --Funandtrvl (talk) 01:22, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Moving Signpost pages
Hi Funandtrvl,
as you could have seen by examing the histories, these pages were moved on purpose last year, following a consensus decision to rename "The Wikipedia Signpost" to "The Signpost". If you want to advocate a return to the old name, feel free to do so and obtain consensus. But until then, please undo you actions and move the pages back to reflect the Signpost's current name.
Regards, HaeB (talk) 07:26, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- And see also [8], for example (Pretzels is the user mainly responsible for the Signpost's template system, see Newsroom. And before you ask, there are pages that have not been moved yet, this was out of concern to break something in this - rather intricate - template system). Regards, HaeB (talk) 07:39, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Also, please note that this archiving was unnecessary, as the page is automatically archived by a bot. Regards, HaeB (talk) 07:30, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I am aware of that, however, it refers to "The Signpost" in the header line, and not the Wikipedia page name, which is move-protected as WP:Wikipedia Signpost (check the history). Consequently, the /subpages need to be aligned and be under that main WP page, not the redirected one, because it is much harder to find the pages and there is a greater possibility of double redirects. I am just trying to straighten that out, and I'll have to contact Pretzels to why half the pages weren't moved and are under the redirect. Secondly, the reason that I manually archived that section because it was not caught by Miszabot, because it does not have the standard (UTC) date at the end of its section. You must not have noticed that it was from December 2010, and the bot is set to archive at 90 days. Since today is July 2nd, the bot obviously didn't pick it up, that's why it was done manually by me. Hope this explains my actions to you. --Funandtrvl (talk) 07:45, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining the manual archiving, it makes sense.
- I think you know it is rather easy to have a move protection lifted, or have an admin move a protected page. Therefore, I don't quite understand what is meant by "Consequently, the /subpages need to be aligned". And by the way, some of the pages you moved had been under Wikipedia:Signpost since their creation in 2009, long before the general rename. Now we suddenly have, for example, something like 900 Signpost stories (since February 2009, example) using a template redirect (Wikipedia:Signpost/Template:Signpost-header, just moved to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Template:Signpost-header), unless someone wants to go through them by bot and adjust the template names to the new names). I don't think this can be considered as improved consistency. Also, "Wikipedia:Signpost" is just shorter than "Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost", therefore your moves add complexity and increase page length in a lot of places.
- In any case, it is appreciated that you give the system some attention and think about how to improve it. It is just that before making such massive changes, you should be talking to other users, especially those whose actions you are reverting - they may have had their reasons, and there may be aspects that you didn't consider.
- Regards, HaeB (talk) 08:20, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

HaeB is correct that the inconsistency is deliberate due to the rename agreed just over a year ago. Some pages have remained under "Wikipedia Signpost" to avoid unnecessary duplication or complication of our already complex templating system. Whilst new issues should technically live below Wikipedia:Signpost now, it doesn't seem crucial enough to justify recoding much of our system and making it harder to update in future. If you are brave enough, you are welcome to move the internal pages such as the Newsroom/Archives etc! If you're finding it "harder to find the pages", remember all internal areas you will need are listed in the Index and everything we've published is listed in the archives. — Pretzels Hii! 11:34, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm game to clean it up. When I have a chance, I will post some sort of proposal at the WP:SIGNPOST talk page, so we can have a more centralized discussion. --Funandtrvl (talk) 16:18, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- Nice one! Looking forward to it. — Pretzels Hii! 19:10, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
A weird thing
Hi, Funandtrvl. This is a note to draw your attention to a very curious thing. On june 30, you left a comment here about some improper editing in the article List of travel magazines. Fortunately or unfortunately, I happen to be the user of this IP address and to the best of my knowledge I'm the only one to use it. I don't remember making any edit in the article in question. I've never even seen this page before! As you may understand, this is a very confusing situation for me and I'll appreciate if you clarify these weird stuff a bit. Thank you.--Sayantan (talk|contribs) 14:41, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Sayantan, here is the user contribution history for that IP address: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/117.194.65.177, the problem was that the user added external links to the article, which can be considered WP:SPAM. If someone is using your allotted IP address, then you may want to contact your ISP for help. You can also check the IP address using one of the reverse DNS lookup tools available on the internet. I hope this helps! --Funandtrvl (talk) 15:46, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Please explain
Please explain your removal of the category unsourced template from Arna Mer-Khamis. Debresser (talk) 21:29, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- In the reference added to source her date and place of birth, it states that she "was born in 1929 to Jewish parents in what was then called Palestine..." In looking at the article Palestinian Jews, it states as a definition: "a Jewish inhabitant of Palestine (or Land of Israel) at various points in the region's history (see Dispute over usage of the term below). Jews in Palestine prior to the establishment of the State of Israel are more commonly referred to as "Yishuv" (Jewish Community)." It seems that she would probably fall into the "Yishuv" category. Geographically speaking, she was a "Palestinian Jew"; however, if there is a reason that you are disputing the use of that term or category, then please let me know the reasons why. Thanks, --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:38, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- As you can see, Category:Palestinian Jews here on Wikipedia does not include all the hundreds of Jews born in this area before 1948. Self-identification, as in the case of Arna's son Juliano Mer-Khamis, Uri Davis or Ilan Halevi, does seem to be an accepted criteria. As well as, of course, citizenship, as in the case of Daniel Barenboim. Debresser (talk) 21:43, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, I added the template some while ago, and if no sources can be found that she self-identified as such, or that she held Palestinian nationality, I think the category should be removed. Debresser (talk) 21:54, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree that the category should be removed. Also, I would strongly suggest that a {{cat exp}} be placed on the category page, stating that it is for more contemporary people that self-identify with Palestine or are citizens of the "country", because it is confusing--the differences of the historical Palestinian and the current ones. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:58, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- I usually watch the talkpages of people I write, so there is no need to post a talkpack message. But thanks for the consideration.
- I removed the category, with an editsummary that the category is incorrect, and a link to this section.
- I don't think that at this moment additional explanation is needed on the category page, since 1. the category is a subcategory of Category:Jews by country, and 2. the small size and nature of the articles in it make the point, as I explained to you above with success. Debresser (talk) 22:26, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Category:Chicago metropolitan area
Why did you remove so many municipalities from Category:Chicago metropolitan area.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:40, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- What I was trying to accomplish was for the sub-categories to be for "the Chicago metropolitan area, including populated places over 30,000; counties; regions; and sub-regions." Because the sub-cats were getting way too numerous, I pared it down by matching what is in the chicagoland template to which sub-categories would display. Needless to say, the categories for the smaller towns can be found under the "county" sub-category, of which I added the missing ones (mostly Wisc. and Ind.) I felt that having every single municipality's sub-categories would make the category have several hundred sub-categories, making it hard to navigate through. Thus, the smaller towns are found under their respective counties. What I'm thinking of doing is adding the "populated places" cat of each county to the category. --Funandtrvl (talk) 03:51, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Random survey
Hi, This is a random survey regarding the first sentence on the Wikipedia policy page Verifiability.
- "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—whether readers can check that material in Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true."
In your own words, what does this mean? Thank you. Regards, Bob K31416 (talk) 03:49, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
- It means that verifiability is more important to Wikipedia than truth. The sentence is not well written, as 'to verify' means 'to prove the truth of', so it is a double-negative type of saying, which really doesn't make any sense. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:54, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello, and thank you for doing new page patrol. You tagged this page for speedy deletion as a test page. However, it seems to be a real attempt at a substub, and I have converted it into a redirect. The page may be unsuitable for inclusion as a unsourced BLP with only "inherited" notability, but it was not necessary to tag this page with the wrong tag a minute after creation. Please be a little more careful and try not to WP:BITE the newbies. Thank you, —Kusma (t·c) 06:06, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Edit warring
I'm concerned that you are engaged in an edit war at Cuban Missile Crisis. While you are correct in your assertions The 3 revert rule applies because the edits being reverted are not covered by any of the exemptions given. Consensus via the talk page is going to be necessary to solve this. --Mrmatiko (talk) 16:46, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry. I thought I'd take a chance and throw some humour your way. You're one of the first people I interacted with when I joined last year. Won't happen again. SlightSmile 20:07, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- OK, apology accepted. FYI- the IP that was edit warring got blocked earlier today. It wasn't me, I was reverting their erroneous and NPOV additions to the article. I don't think Mrmatiko realized that above. Maybe I should let him know. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:29, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- I know that you were only ensuring that the content of Cuban Missile Crisis was sourced & Neutral, but you were engaged in an edit war (in which you reverted contributions well over 3 times) and I thought that I should point out that even if you are right edit warring is wrong. I couldn't see how any of the exemptions to the 3 revert rule applied in this case and was hoping that both you and the IP user would back down to avoid being blocked for edit warring. It is clear that you are a much more experienced editor than I and my concern was that you had become too caught up in this situation and were heading for a block, which wouldn't have been in anybody's best interests. --Mrmatiko (talk) 20:38, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- When I was using WP:HUGGLE and even before that, this reference usually applies: WP:EW#What edit warring is, quote: "Reverting vandalism is not edit warring, but note that merely editing from a slanted point of view, general insertion or removal of material, or other good-faith changes, are not considered vandalism. Reverting to enforce certain overriding policies is not considered edit warring." The IP was blocked because of his edits not only to CMM, but several other pages. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:42, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- I hope this is okay. I was in a similar situation last January (an IP insisting that North Korea is non communist). An admin gave me a similar heads up that I was edit warring. When I went on her talk page about it, she told me someone had recently lost rollball in a more or less similar situation with an IP (actually I used Undo in the North Korea dispute).
- After begging hat in hand for months, he eventually got it back after agreeing to tutoring in using it, be on probation and whatever other indignities. - Wow! You would think using tools, especially Huggle, Twinkle, etc., would show that the editors are serious about combating vandalism, and wouldn't be criticized for doing so, but then again, the world is not perfect... --Funandtrvl (talk) 22:09, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

cleanup template tidying
Hi,
Thanks for your recent updates to various cleanup templates. I've undone some of the changes to emphasis: the prevailing style is just to emphasise the verb phrase which describes the problem, rather than peppering these templates with bits of bold. I've also gone through and reworded some templates which just said "and requires cleanup" to better describe the problem. Cheers. Aurora edit
Hey, I was going to revert this edit, until I saw it was you. As one of the more respected names I encounter, I've decided to instead just ask "What's up?" The edit seems counterintuitive to me (since over 80% of Aurora is in Kane County, not DuPage), but I also know that there's a lot of policy shit that I don't know beans about. So what's the thinking, amigo? HuskyHuskie (talk) 02:05, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

Template passports.
Hello,
My modification were explained here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Passports
as:
- Fakes
I had just deleted Iroquois and World passports from the templates. It isn't a passport but a camouflage one. A passport is issued by a recognized State or by a subject of the international society such as Palestinian authority. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.71.8.131 (talk) 04:16, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

- I saw your explanation, but there was no reason to remove Iroquois and World. World is listed under "Other" and the Iroquois one is not fake, even though it's not recognized by most countries, although that may change in the future. --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:39, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Survey
Hi Funandtrvl!
I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!
It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!
Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Edit protected requests to work around Rdcheck bugs
Just how many of these redirects that break Rdcheck are there? Might it not be better to update Rdcheck to be able to handle all the variations of redirect syntax that MediaWiki itself accepts? Anomie⚔ 22:51, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- That is a possibility, I'd have to check with the author of the tool. The ones I'm finding are from updating the Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Template redirects page. I've only updated the Maint. templates section of the page, so I'm not sure how many Template errors there would be out there. --Funandtrvl (talk) 22:57, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Least you think that I am a complete flake,
regarding the sculpture section that you just edited at the Lafayette article, this [9] is what the Smithsonian has to say on the subject:
- "The north and south pediments feature three seated historical figures. In the center is the Marquis de Lafayette, sometimes identified as George Washington, holding a sword across his lap. To his proper right is William Henry Harrison, sometimes identified as George Rogers Clark,"
Grieff, in the more or less standard work on the subject of sculpture in Indiana states, "Lafayette's visage is also among those carved on the pediments of the courthouse itself". [1]
As Oscar Wilde once wrote (or perhaps he just said it) "The truth is seldom pure and never simple." Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 02:26, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- ^ Greiff, Glory-June, ‘’Remembrance, Faith & Fancy: Outdoor Public Sculpture in Indiana’’, Indiana Historical Society Press, Indianapolis, 2005 p. 29
Oh, a flake is not a bad thing to be, and it was my term in any case. My girls argued for years as to whether I was a dork or a nerd. I think that they finally settled on both. Thanks for reconsidering your Lafayette edit, architectural sculpture (and sculpture in general) is my passion, so I was happy that a second look proved I was on the right track. Life is good. Carptrash (talk) 02:38, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia is one of the few places on earth where pointing out someone's error can garner a response. At best (opinion) some clerk will pass the info on to the webmaster who . ............actually quit 3 years ago and no one else . . .......... well you know how it goes. Too bad we can't just make these corrections ourselves, but, wouldn't the WWW be an interesting place if ALL websites were open editing? Carptrash (talk) 21:07, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

George Washington citations
I see you've been cleaning up some of the dead link/cites in this article, thanks for keeping up with that. I didn't realize that there was even a "cite conference" template. I do have some questions about some of your changes though.
- In this edit you changed some of the references to refer to the entire Dennis Pogue paper "Shad, Wheat and Rye", the original refs had the more specific pages. For instance the first cite refers to pages 2-4, the second instance referred to pages 2-10.
- Also in the above edit, the first instance for Eleanor Breen's "A Pretty Considerable Distillery" refers to pages 209-220, the second instance refers only to page 211.
When the work itself does not change but the pages do, I usually put <ref>Author's last name, Page #<ref> or <ref>Author's name, Title, Page #</ref>. Would that be acceptable to you if I changed the second instance (of those sources being referenced, but with the different page #s) to the author name/page number variety? Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 21:10, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- I think there's a way to reference using the ref name and adding the pg number. I'll look it up. Just trying to cut down on duplication--the Barack Obama article has 350+ refs and had a problem with displaying all the templates due to expansion limits. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:14, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict) I see that a previous editor tagged the dead links (thank goodness for keeping URLs up-to-date), but then changed the page numbers to be more generic.
- The original citation of Ref 50 has the Page # as Page 2.
- The second original citation of Ref 50 had the Page # as pages 2-4
- I propose changing the cites of the various works to my more above/usual form if you have no objections. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 21:22, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- My form won't utilize excessive templates, just plain text and is perfectly acceptable according to MoS standards. How about if I just do that? -- Shearonink (talk) 21:25, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Take a look at Help:Shortened footnotes#In-text cite, example #2. I think that might work to link it back to the original "cite web" or "cite journal" w/o duplicating the ref. I would usually suggest to use harvard refs, but since it's a journal article, not a book, I'm not sure if that will work. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:27, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- I guess my concern is that it would be better that it link back to the original long citation, like a harvard ref does. That makes it so much easier to figure out which ref is applicable, rather than just an all-text ref. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:30, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- Another thought- what is the proper procedure for how many pages should be listed per ftnote? Do you know of any online source/style book concerning ftnotes? I tend to like to group the pages per chapter or document, instead of citing each individual page, because otherwise, the ftnote list would get mighty big on an article like Washington's. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:35, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- (Edit conflict)But it really shouldn't link to the long citation(unless you think it should link to the main/host URL?), the page numbers are different. Per chapter or per document is not as precise as per page for verifiability etc. Shearonink (talk) 21:40, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

- I don't think it should link to the url. What I mean is that we should use harvard refs, ie, the main citation would be listed down in the Bibliography section without page numbers (or with the page numbers for the whole document, like 1-12), then each in-text ref would have the relevant pg numbers. I know using each single pg is more precise, but do we really need to use only single page refs, instead of pairs of pages, for example? --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:47, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- The article is so huge, I'm not even sure how many ref styles it has at the moment. I'm pretty sure they aren't all Harvard refs. Shearonink (talk) 22:22, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
- I think single pages are preferable to doubles, and doubles are preferable to ranges and ranges are preferable to chapters and chapters are preferable to books. If the whole purpose of references is so that readers can verify a statement, then that statement's source information should be made as accurately accessible as possible. Shearonink (talk) 22:28, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

- OK, I know that it uses many styles of refs and it's huge (as are a few of the other US presidents' articles). I just think that using harvard refs would probably look better and clean up the ref section. When I get some time, I can format the sources under "Bibliography" to add the "|ref=harv". Right now, you should add the correct pg numbers into the refs, in the manner that you prefer, and we can start cleaning up some more of the refs later, when we have time, thanks. --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:02, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

I noticed you tagged some categories for deletion. Usually these categories are kept even when they are empty; what's up in this case? — Carl (CBM · talk) 00:44, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- I've been working on {{WPFOOD}} all week, the categories that are listed for deletion are no longer populated by the template, that's why they're tagged that way. You can see which categories are currently in use by the WPFOOD template by looking for "_CAT" in the tmp code. --Funandtrvl (talk) 00:48, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Happy B-day
Just a happy Birthday message to you, Funandtrvl, from the Wikipedia Birthday Committee! Have a great day! |
January 2012
Hi,
Yesterday, on January 21st, I added a date to the Wikipedia page about said day. Only few minutes later the page was been reset by you, claiming it would "not appear to be constructive".
But it is. In fact, this very day January 21st 2012 might be the greatest and most important date since October 10th 2010 for a certain, constantly growing subculture, Bronies to be precise. It may not be crucial for you, but for these people all other the world it is. On that day the Brony-Community was initially fully acknowledged by the show and the creators. It never happened before in the history of television that a originally not target group fandom influenced a show in that dimension as it happened on that for Bronies historical day.
I know my entry wasn't really much formulated since I was to busy jumping around in joy, but still I demand the right to add an article about something important on Wikipedia, even if it's only for a certain group of people.
Yours sincerely

- No matter what, you need to cite a source, see: WP:Citing sources. --Funandtrvl (talk) 03:20, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- Well, that's a little hard to do since it depends on something said in a TV show. I can link to the youtube video, but you never know how long it will still be up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dmt Brony (talk • contribs) 15:16, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- Getting back to the reason why I removed your alleged entry [10] (which was made by an anonymous IP, so there is no way to verify that it was you) ---it has to meet the Verifiability policy. If there isn't a reliable source, then it doesn't belong in WP. Sorry. --Funandtrvl (talk) 19:13, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Escaped parser functions in template docs
Hi. When you cleaned up the code for Template:Infobox holiday/doc some time ago, you escaped the entire template code using <pre></pre>. This, however, had the undesirable result of escaping the {{#time}} parser functions which were used to generate dates for parameters and should have been displayed as years on the documentation page. Articles in which the code was used verbatim subsequently had their dates messed up when the year changed. I've fixed the documentation page in question, but you might want to check if there are any other similar pages. Thanks. --Paul_012 (talk) 06:36, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi, can you please explain why you've removed Category:Broadcasting in article TV Transmitters? Thanks.Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 09:21, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Hey, why you call my edit a "test edit". You do this here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Arab_towns_and_villages_depopulated_during_the_1948_Palestinian_exodus&diff=479362935&oldid=479049749. That was not a "test edit". That was a valid edit. This church is in East Jerusalem, not Israel. You're bullying tactics of reverting with false summaries is not acceptable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nassiriya (talk • contribs) 19:53, 5 March 2012 (UTC) I have undid the edit. Don't just remove my edit again, there is no consensus for that category!
- The reason I called it a test edit, is because there was an extra character, an "i", next to the category for 1140s architecture. I should have also stated that my edit was for restoring categories that were removed with no consensus. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:17, 5 March 2012 (UTC)
But you can add categories with no consensus? Why only removal has to have consensus? Other people write that addition must have consensus. What are the rules? But I'm sorry for extra "i", but that doesn't make me edit a "test edit". Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nassiriya (talk • contribs) 20:50, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Template:WikiProject United States
Greetings, I am new to Wikipedia and I have been helping out with WikiProject Kentucky as a way to get my feet wet. While doing this I noticed that some of the stuff wasn't displaying quite right and after looking at the template I think I found out why. It appears that Kumioko made some changes to the template and then no one answered his requests to have them implemented. Then when you synced the sandbox with the main page here it wiped them out. Would it be possible to fix those items in the template so the stuff for the Eastern mountain coal fields task force will display correctly? - I removed the "parent" or "top" category in the hierarchy, because it is already in the more specific categories of "National Register of Historic Places in Sangamon County, Illinois" and "Houses on the National Register of Historic Places in Illinois". Thus, there is no need to over-categorize it into the main container category for the NRHP places. --Funandtrvl (talk) 01:38, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Related information
Hi--I don't think adding a "Related information" link is really necessary at the bottom of an external links section (re: Alaska, Illinois, etc.) It's not recommended at MOS:LAYOUT and it's only adding kbs and clutter, so I'm removing it on Alaska and probably Illinois. --Funandtrvl (talk) 22:15, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Please see Wikipedia:Related information. None of the links in this section are external links, so they should either be placed in a separate section such as ==Related information== or moved to other sections. I think the ==Related information== proposal is the most logical place, even though it has not yet received official sanction. Do you have any other ideas? Yours aye, Buaidh 22:26, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I see that, but it's only an essay, not the guideline. I would suggest that you post a request for comments at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Layout first, to see what other editors think too. --Funandtrvl (talk) 22:30, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- What would you propose to remedy this situation? Yours aye, Buaidh 22:33, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- I personally don't like the extra navbox heading thingy, and the extra section heading, as the U.S. state navboxes are pretty self-explanatory. Also, the state articles are pretty big to begin with, so they don't need excess kbs which are just related to navboxes anyways. If you think they are worthwhile, then I would still recommend that you post a Rfc at the mos:layout talk page to see what the others think. As for now, a heading of "Related information" is not addressed there, so I would think it's not recommended at the moment. --Funandtrvl (talk) 22:40, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Just where are all these kilobytes you worry about? Adding a ==Related information== section header increases the article length by a whopping 24 bytes. That seems to be a small penalty to pay to avoid confusing novice users that these are somehow external links as currently advertised. Yours aye, Buaidh 22:54, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Well, even if the kbs don't matter, I still think you should get others' opinions, especially since it pertains to a change in the guidelines at mos:layout. --Funandtrvl (talk) 22:57, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- I've also been following this, and I have to agree that we don't need the "Related information" headings. I'm for a very minimal footer in these articles, and the proliferation of both external and internal links, particularly in navboxes and other templates, isn't actually helpful for readers.-- Patrick, oѺ∞ 23:06, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I don't mind the navboxes (they can serve a useful purpose), but I agree that an extra section heading of "Related info..." isn't needed. --Funandtrvl (talk) 23:09, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- I appreciate that you both find the extra header distracting and superfluous, but having content in a section that has no business there drives me up the wall. (Perhaps a professional bias.) Is there any other way to separate the navboxes from the external links other than a section header? A section header seems rather innoculous. We have a full spectrum of user opinions on the number of links that should be included in an article. Some users would have a bare minimum, while other want as many links as an article can hold. What are your other concerns with an extra header? Yours aye, Buaidh 23:25, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- This seems like a bigger topic, and I agree the best way to go is to get some consensus somewhere like Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Layout.-- Patrick, oѺ∞ 23:29, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

- Yes, I agree it should be taken up at the talk page. I'm not a big fan of a lot of external links, because most of them should be used as references within an article, thus placing them as citations, instead of a long list of links. As for the navboxes, I just think having another header is redundant. I understand buaidh's concern that a navbox isn't an "external link", but the end of the article seems to be the best place to put the navboxes. I've noticed when looking at Wikipedia on their mobile site (like on a cellphone) the navboxes don't always display properly (sometimes you can't read the far right section of the navbox, as it's cut off the screen and rotating it doesn't help.) It would be more of a problem with the rendering of an article on a mobile platform if the navboxes were ahead of the "external links" section, because readers just might skip whatever is after it, and having an additional "related info..." section following the EL section just seems to be out of place. It's just a matter of personal preference, that's the only way I can explain it. I'm sure if the subject is brought up at the mos:layout talk page, that other editors could describe the issue with it better than I can. --Funandtrvl (talk) 23:46, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, Wikipedia articles are prone to the addition of lengthy and often repetitive infoboxes, navigation boxes, templates, and internal and external link farms. An example of this was Minnesota a week or so ago (this version), which contains, in the See also section, links not only to the Minnesota outline, index and portal, but also links to the outlines and portals of the United States, North America, Geography, and History. Then in the Minnesota navigation box there are links to the Minnesota Index (I have since added the Minnesota Outline there as well). In the United States nav box there are links to the US book and portal. There was also some kind of geographic direction box, showing the relationship to neighbors, which is duplicative of the text, and also contained links to the Minnesota outline and index. I removed the duplication and links to information not specific to the state, for the reasons expressed at Talk:Minnesota#See_also_section.
Minnesota is a featured article, and during its FAC, a decision was made to remove the See also section entirely. I think that was correct, under the principles of WP:SEEALSO. Links should be relevant, and should appear only once, and oulines and indexes to general topics should not be included on articles for specific locales. We do not need the continued accretion of duplicative information to the Minnesota article, the other featured articles at Virginia and Oklahoma, or any other state. As indicated by the discussion here, and the edit history at Michigan and perhaps elsewhere, the issue needs to be discussed at a central location, with notice to the relevant wikiprojects, including FAC and GAC. Kablammo (talk) 16:05, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- I wholeheartedly agree that see also sections need to be pared down. I have edited a number of articles where I have removed links under see also that are already in the navboxes. As for a centralized discussion, I have requested several times above that the discussion be at WT:Layout and not here, but to no avail as of yet. --Funandtrvl (talk) 16:36, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Tourism in Israel
Hello,
According to the statistics of the Israeli Ministry of Tourism , the number of tourists that arrived to Israel in 2011 was 3.45 million tourists. This is much more reliable source. Of course that the Israeli Minister of Tourism ,Stas Misezhnikov, mentioned it several times.

The statistics are not including domestic visitors only international visitors. I added a reference in your talk page... 3.45 million INTERNATIONAL arrived to Israel in 2011 and that's a fact.--Friends147 (talk) 21:51, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Table of United States Micropolitan Statistical Areas
Please spot check the Table of United States Micropolitan Statistical Areas to ensure that we now have the correct data. I've added the CBSA code to this table to make future updates easier. I'll check the other statistical area tables for errors. Thank you so much for your work on this. Yours aye, Buaidh 17:38, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- The United States Census Bureau updates its estimates of statistical area population around April 1 of each year for July 1 of the previous year.
- To update a Wikipedia population table, download the table code to a spreadsheet, one area per row. (For Microsoft Excel, this involves first downloading the table code to Microsoft Word, converting the code to tab-separated columns in area paragraphs, and then downloading to Excel.)
- Sort the table rows by Census Bureau code (or alphabetically.)
- Download the Census Bureau data next to the Wikipedia code so that the population data is on the appropriate area row. You may need to move some Wikipedia data to the appropriate row since the Census Bureau uses a different sort algorithm (which ignores spaces and expands abbreviations) than Wikipedia and most spreadsheets.
- Replace the old population data with the new data.
- Sort the table rows by (1) the largest population for the latest estimate and (2) the smallest previous census count.
- Update the area population rank. If the population estimate for two or more areas is tied, use the highest rank (or lowest number) for each.
- Upload the updated population table to Wikipedia. (For Microsoft Excel, this involves first downloading the table to Microsoft Word, replacing all tabs with paragraph marks, then uploading to Wikipedia.)
- Yours aye, Buaidh 19:27, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- Wow! Do you use the csv table or the xls spreadsheet code from the Census Bureau first? Also, I double-checked the other tables, (CSA, MSA, etc.) and they all look good. Thanks very much! --Funandtrvl (talk) 19:30, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Your edits to WP:WikiProject Plants/Assessment
A small problem with changing to {{Assessment Class Summary}} is that it doesn't include the class SL used in WP Plants. Because the template generates the non-article list immediately after the article list, adding a manual entry for SL puts the information in the wrong place. Do you see any fix for this? Review of Vocus draft
Hi Funandtrvl, hope you don't mind my reaching out to you, but I saw that you're a WikiProject Business participant and wondered if you'd be able to look at an article draft that falls under this project's scope. I've written a new draft for the marketing software company Vocus and am looking for editors to review it since I have a COI with the topic, as I wrote the draft on behalf of the company. Due to this COI, I will not make any edits to the Vocus article myself.
The current Vocus article is not in the best shape, and the draft I've written aims to provide a clearer overview of the company's operations and products, with better sourcing. You can see the draft here: User:16912_Rhiannon/Vocus and there's a full explanation of the draft in my request on the Vocus Talk page. As I've explained there, I'm looking for impartial editors to read the draft and make sure it's neutral, non-promotional and otherwise follows Wikipedia's guidelines. One editor has reviewed the draft already and made some edits, but hasn't provided any comments, so it would be great to get your feedback and have you move the draft if you feel it is ready. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:09, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'll be glad to review it, but I might not have a chance until this coming weekend. Thanks, --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:10, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- No problem. It would be fantastic to get your review of the draft this weekend, if you have time. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:37, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there, I just wanted to check in and see if you'd had time this weekend to look at my Vocus draft? If you think you won't have time, no worries, I can reach out to others. Let me know if you know anyone who might be particularly helpful on this topic. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:14, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

- Thank you! I'll work on getting the references added to the infobox and finding the current revenue figures. Once I get those, would you mind moving the draft if you think it's ready? Thanks again! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:18, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

- Yes, just let me know when you're finished. --Funandtrvl (talk) 21:20, 22 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi again, Funandtrvl. Thanks for moving my new draft for Vocus live. I realize I wasn't able to update the infobox with references or provide the 2012 revenue before you did that. As I stick to the "bright line" rule for COI editors, I'd rather not edit the live article myself. If you'd like to make those edits now that it is live here is the information to do so:
- The company's full year revenue for 2012 was reported as $170.8 million.[1]
- The following reference supports the year the company was founded, headquarters location, Rick Rudman as CEO, product types, number of employees: <ref name=Sentementes>{{cite news |title=Vocus tackles digital marketing, hires hundreds |author=Gus G. Sentementes |url=http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2012-10-13/business/bs-bz-vocus-hiring-beltsville-20121013_1_market-share-social-media-search-engine |work=[[The Baltimore Sun]] |date=13 October 2012 |accessdate=24 January 2013}}</ref>
- Thanks again for your review and for taking the draft live! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 23:15, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Re your edits to Category:Companies based in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Did you know that North Las Vegas is a city? Vegaswikian (talk) 00:12, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, you could add "Category:Companies based in Nevada by city"; however, I was just following the pattern to place it into "Category:Companies based in the Las Vegas Valley". Do you think it should be added to the Nevada by city category also? ==Funandtrvl (talk) 00:15, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi Funandtrvl, re: your recent edit, I was wondering why do you might think that Category:Lists of people by occupation is less appropriate than Category:Lists of health professionals. Although many psychologists are employed as health professionals, very many others are not. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:23, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- I've been trying to clean up the parent category. Psychologists' list is already in the sub-category of social scientists and then, health professionals. Social scientists' list is in the parent category, instead. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:27, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, yes, that seems to make sense. I think the problem may arise from the fact that most of the individuals in this list are academics and pioneer researchers, and that's very likely to remain the case. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:34, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- There is a category for that, so I added it to the article. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:37, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Ok. I'm always a bit confused about the overlap between "Cats" and "See also" lists. But my initial point remains - as far as I can see, this is certainly not a "List of health professional", and I don't see it ever becoming one. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:44, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, in that case, I'll remove the Health professionals, but I still think it's a sub-category of social scientists. --Funandtrvl (talk) 20:46, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Well, I think that's a pretty commonplace view. And I'm not saying I am 100% right here. Maybe the problem is that hierarchical categorization isn't very good at showing Venn diagram relationships. Thanks for your patience and very swift responses. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:51, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

Underwater sports are not underwater versions of terrestrial sports & Category:Underwater sports templates
Hi Funandtrvl
I have noticed that you have been editing number of templates concerned with the broad class of Underwater diving.
I have undone some of your edits for Category:Underwater orienteering, Category: Underwater hockey and Category:Underwater rugby, because these underwater sports are NOT adaptations of the terrestrial sports. In all cases, these sports have evolved independently and acquired the references to the terrestrial sports much later in their respective existence largely due to codification of rules at international level when the sports’ names were standardised and for the desire to attract more participation. In the case of underwater hockey, the name was changed from Octopush 25 years after its invention because a number of non-English speaking diving federations when finalising the International Rules did not like the word ‘Octopush’ despite it being an accurate reflection of the game.
I am also concerned about the creation of Category:Underwater sports templates and its addition to a number of navbars (i.e. Template:Diver training, Template:Underwater divers, Template:Recreational dive sites, Template:Diver organisations and Template:Underwater diving). As implied above, the peak article for the broad subject of ‘being underwater’ is Underwater diving of which Underwater sports is one of the sub-sets. Therefore, the Category:Underwater sports templates should be renamed Category:Underwater diving templates.
Cowdy001 (talk) 22:20, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, I can rename the template category, as you suggested, the templates really don't belong in the article categories. I would think that "underwater sports" would be the main category, and "underwater diving" being a sub-category, but if you think that it should be the other way around, I'm fine with that. --Funandtrvl (talk) 23:16, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Template:User wikipedia/Autoconfirmed a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest
I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:24, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to List of portmanteaus may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Speedy deletion declined: Buckeye Sun
Hello Funandtrvl, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Buckeye Sun, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: It's not a hoax or something just made up, it's just a little newspaper that serves a little town. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 12:31, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Nervous...
I see suddenly all my restaurant and chef article pass by on my watchlist. What is the general idea behind your efforts? indonesia
by most ways of seeing the archipelago - and there have been some beauties at times (islands of the pacific and so on) - is in south east asia, and in most cases the 'australasia' and 'oceania' arguments of about 4 or 5 years ago have died down. there is also a new oceania project (relatively speaking)... so, have reverted your category of indonesia being in oceania - it isnt. cheers satusuro 01:32, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

OER inquiry
Hi Funandtrvl, I'm sending you this message because you're one of about 300 users who have recently edited an article in the umbrella category of open educational resources (OER) (or open education). In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. Regardless of whether you've taken the WIKISOO course yourself - and/or never even heard the term OER before - we'd be extremely grateful for your participation in this brief, anonymous survey before 27 April. No personal data is being collected. If you have any ideas or questions, please get in touch. My talk page awaits. Thanks for your support! - Sara FB (talk) 20:40, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Reversion of your edit to Clinton Road
Hi, I reverted your edit to Clinton Road. You cited MOS:layout as your reasoning for forcing sizes on all the images; however, WP:IMGSIZE says (as does MOS:IMAGES#Size) that images should be displayed with "thumb" set, leaving that up to the user to set in Preferences.
I grant that it also says images should be on the right. I generally disregard that, since it's easier on your eyes to alternate images as your eyes are already doing that to read (In fact research has shown that people generally read further along into a text illustrated with alternating images, for that reason). Daniel Case (talk) 22:06, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- The reason that I moved the "left" image to the right is because it is bunching up (and running into) the bullet list on the left. Also, when you use the mobile version of Wikipedia on one's smartphone, the images that are really large are a bit harder to surf around to get to the article, then they are on a regular PC's larger monitor, thus my effort to scale down the images. Funandtrvl (talk) 22:09, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- Yes; bulleted lists are one of my exemptions to that rule. As for smartphones, that's why there's a number of apps that handle images differently; forcing an image size makes it harder for them to work right. Daniel Case (talk) 00:26, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
- Also, see how the page works differently on the mobile version of the site. Daniel Case (talk) 00:30, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
comment-tag dashes
I gave the tags four dashes so the requests made by the comments might be a little more likely to be seen (rather than assumed to be e.g. coding comments and passed over). What do you think..? Sardanaphalus (talk) 09:56, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I understand, but it is probably not necessary. I would just use the regular 2-dashed code. There are articles like "List of cities in Illinois" that I have on my watchlist, and there is not a week that goes by that someone doesn't put a village or town on the list, even though there are 4 lines of text explaining that there are several lists, based on the legal entity of the municipalities. Thus, no matter how hard you try, it seems to be a lost cause to get people to read instructions. Funandtrvl (talk) 17:44, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. I find the difference useful, but, as the above is a preload, the standard tags are probably best used in it. Regards, Sardanaphalus (talk) 00:36, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
Default sort
I notice in this change, you changed the default sort to be the same as the page title (give or take capitalization). Is there any reason to keep the DEFAULTSORT tag in there at this point? – RobinHood70 talk 00:55, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I guess because of the capitalization? Or does it only matter if there are upper case words after lower case words? Funandtrvl (talk) 00:59, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- As far as I know, it only matters if there's some specific need to sort with different capitalization or spelling than the name of the page. Since there's no specific need here, I'll remove it. – RobinHood70 talk 04:28, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

re your new key for Project Autism
Hi, you announced that you had come up with a new "key" for Project Autism.
[[:Category:WikiProject Psychology|Autism]]
Are you aware that User:Muffinator has been banned from adding the {{WikiProject Autism}} tag to any articles or talk pages? This is per a Administrators' noticeboard/Incident decision at[13]
Do you think the new Autism key is in the spirit of this decision, especially since {{WikiProject Autism}} is not at all a part of the Category:WikiProject Psychology and actually goes against it, being radically different? I guess Psychology members can go there and periodically clean it out, but it seems like it just sets the project up for more trouble. It was the adding of the {{WikiProject Autism}} tag to psychology articles and biographies that got User:Muffinator banned. Parabolooidal (talk) 02:33, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- No, I wasn't aware of the issue. With that in mind, I've removed the Psychology project's category from the Autism project's pages. Funandtrvl (talk) 16:17, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! I believe that is the right thing. I've let another editor know about this, Dbrodbeck, and I'm hopeful that if my judgment is faulty on this issue they will let me know. I don't understand this "key" business but I saw what it did: it put Project Autism as a subcategory of Project Psychology. Parabolooidal (talk) 23:06, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
- Would you be able to explain the "key" thing to me, or is there an explanation somewhere about it? It's just amazing to me that such a little alteration would have such be consequences. Don't worry if you can't, as I'm illiterate when it comes to understanding anything complex. Parabolooidal (talk) 23:58, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

Painter categories should not be added to parent artist categories
Hi Funandtrvl, I noticed you added Category:Frans Hals to Category:Artists from Haarlem with this edit, while removing it from Category:History of Haarlem. I don't follow your rationale. Frans Hals is an artist from Haarlem, and he was already in the artists-from-Haarlem category. The people he portrayed, while important to the history of Haarlem, were not artists. Also, his paintings are objects and not people. Have you done this to more artist categories named after artists? I think you need to discuss such changes first. Jane (talk) 07:35, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, I haven't changed any other artist categories, and I have self-reverted the edit to Frans Hals' category. I am just as confused to where to put the artist's categories, and there does not seem to be a protocol for it. For example: Category:Rembrandt is only in Category:People of the Dutch Golden Age; Category:Johannes Vermeer is in Category:History of Delft; and Category:Vincent van Gogh is in Categories:Post-Impressionism and 19th-century painters from the Northern Netherlands. So there seems to be a mix of History, the Period of Art, and the groups of painters from each country. Funandtrvl (talk) 17:08, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. I agree with you that it appears to be a mashup of solutions. I guess theoretically these should be categorized under some "Art" catagory, while flower still life painters should probably have their categories under "Flora", portrait painters under "People", and landscape artists under their country? My guess is as good as yours. Jane (talk) 18:31, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Five minutes to help make WikiProjects better
Hello!
First, on behalf of WikiProject X, thank you for trying out the WikiProject X pilot projects. I would like to get some anonymous feedback from you on your experience using the new WikiProject layout and tools. This way, we will know what we did right, and if we did something horribly wrong, we can try to fix it. This feedback won't be associated with your username, so please be completely honest. We are determined to improve the experience of Wikipedians, and your feedback helps us with that. (You are also welcome to leave non-anonymous feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject X.)
Please complete the survey here. The survey has two parts: the first part asks for your username, while the second part contains the survey questions. These two parts are stored separately, so your username will not be associated with your feedback. There are only nine questions and it should not take very long to complete. Once you complete the survey I will leave a handwritten note on your talk page as a token of my appreciation.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, Harej (talk) 17:49, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Destroyed landmarks
You recently created a number of categories and subcategories Destroyed landmarks by country. I believe these categories are unnecessary because categories with Demolished buildings and structures by country already existed. Is it possible to merge both categories? See WP:OVERCAT Tridek Sep (talk) 19:26, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- The two words, "destroyed" and "demolished" do not mean the same thing. The "Demolished" category has buildings that were knocked down on purpose; for example, to build a new building in its place. The "Destroyed" category means that the buildings or landmarks were annihilated or knocked down on purpose, but the purpose being during a war, for example, to permanently ruin the building, in order to harm the owners, or civilization. Funandtrvl (talk) 18:31, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- If this is the intention, I suggest giving these categories a better name, one that makes their purpose clear. Tridek Sep (talk) 20:28, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- That is a good idea, but I don't know what a better name would be, at the moment! If you can think of one, please propose it at WP:CFD. Thanks, Funandtrvl (talk) 20:30, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

- Brevity is good, tho not at the cost of comprehension. It's a zero-sum game: either the writer puts an effort into being explicit, or the reader puts an effort into decoding.--Cornellier (talk) 15:28, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Proposed cat deletion
I think you should have been informed by the nominator, User:Tridek Sep, that a cat you created, Category:Destroyed landmarks in Belgium, has been nominated for deletion at CfD - via this link. Doubtless there's a template for this message, but it's quicker just to tell you.Eustachiusz (talk) 16:10, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
