Speedy deletion nomination of Parabouchetia
[edit]Hello Flobbadob,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Parabouchetia for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Ways to improve page editing
[edit]Hi, Flobbadob! Thank you for creating Physochlaina (and other articles on plant diversity)! I've noticed that you make several edits at the same page in a matter of minutes. It would be better to make less edits with more information added at once, especially if the new edit adds incomplete information. If you want to save the page after every few minutes to assure that your progress won't be lost, you can always develop the new page in your sandbox. You may find more information on page creation and editing at Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:Editing policy. Happy editing! – Piter Keo (talk • contribs) 12:32, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
- It is truly strange that you made some 100 edits in rapid succession to add a relatively short section, displayed in history here. You can work in your sandbox to iron out the bugs, then post the finished product to a page. Not only are your edits weird by their profusion, they are reckless in format and style. Spend some time with WP:MOS and slow down. --Zefr (talk) 16:45, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

I reworked your edits to Silphium. I liked the drawing of Heracleum sphondylium, but didn't feel that there was room for it in the article. The image of the coin is central to the text; the drawing of the fruit is not. I can't see relegating the former to a gallery at the bottom of the section just to make room for the latter.
The claim that the heart-shaped thing is an indehiscent mericarp doesn't seem to be supported by a reference to a reliable source, and the existing citation-supported text expresses uncertainty about whether the ancient engravings represent seeds or seed pods (or, perhaps, fruits). You can't resolve that uncertainty without citing a new reliable source. I worked in the new material, though, by changing the text to "...and understood to represent its seed or fruit.[19] Some plants in the family Apiaceae, such as Heracleum sphondylium, have heart-shaped indehiscent mericarps (a type of fruit)." This maintains the uncertainty about what the silphium images represent, while providing relevant information about a related modern plant. I'll assume one could find a reference that refers to Heracleum sphondylium having heart-shaped fruit.
Is the fact that the fruit is an indehiscent mericarp actually important somehow? It seems overly technical unless that detail has some importance that isn't clear to me. I would just call it a fruit unless there is some reason to do otherwise.--Srleffler (talk) 02:33, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

An article you recently created, Reyesia, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. ... discospinster talk 18:38, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
- Discospinster, the article lacked a citation, and while this easily fixed, that ought to be emphasised as crucial. Regarding notability, once it is confirmed that a species or genus (both in this case) or other taxon is accepted by an authority you can be fairly confident that notability is therefore established, 'all species are notable' (with exceptions that prove the rule). cygnis insignis 08:30, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Flora distribution categories
[edit]A couple of points:
- We put distribution categories on species articles or redirect, not on genus articles.
- It's general Wikipedia practice not to include subcategories of a category on a page. So if Category:Flora of temperate Asia, is present, none of its subcategories should be. If you find such subcategories, please remove them.
See Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants/World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions#Using the categorization hierarchy. Peter coxhead (talk) 14:08, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Loddon Lily
[edit]Hi, just a thought, but your section on the Loddon Lily in the River Loddon article looks extensive enough to form its own article. What do you think? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 16:33, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Shepherd's pie
[edit]You have inserted original research into the lead of this article which contradicts the existing source and the full discussion under "Origin of the name". I realize that whether shepherd's pie contains lamb or any meat is controversial, but on WP, we try to stick with what reliable sources say. --Macrakis (talk) 19:16, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

A kitten for you ! And a question about chaerophyllum ^^
[edit]Thank you a lot for your contribution on the page "Chaerophyllum temulum" ! I've been looking for some information about the toxicity of this plant and especially of another related species (C. bulbosum). I happen to be in contact with both some experts from european WFSR and french hygiene and safety institutions to understand which molecules would be the cause of toxicity in species of the genus chaerophyllum. I would like to get references about the chaerophyllin alkaloid you mentionned on the "C.temulum" page or any other glycosidally bound ones. In advance, thank you a lot for just any information that would help me !! :) CHEVALLAY Thomas
Samoth Yallavec'h (talk) 09:14, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, Samoth. Thank you for the kitten 😺. Glad you approve of my additions to the page "Chaerophyllum temulum". I see from the page history that I made all those edits back in May of 2016 - a sad year for me, because my dear first wife, Anne, died that September. I see also that I was a bit naughty in that, with a lot of those edits, I left no summary of what I had done. What spurred me to start editing that page was the entry regarding C. temulum in an old, but beautifully-illustrated book (Starý, František, Poisonous Plants (Hamlyn colour guides) – pub. Paul Hamlyn April, 1984, translated by Olga Kuthanová from the Czech original published in 1983 by Artia in Prague). Starý mentions briefly the alkaloid chaerophylline and other little-investigated glycosidally-bound substances. Any other information that I quote on the Wikipage was gleaned by my usual expedient of Googling any recent scholarly papers about the plant available to read online. I’m not a phytochemist but, from what I’ve read about the chemistry of the Apiaceae, references to alkaloids in the family seem to be rather antiquated and restricted to only a few genera - principally Conium and its alkaloid coniine. The toxic compounds in the Apiaceae seem mostly to be polyynes - some of them very toxic indeed, such as those occurring in the cowbane genus Cicuta. I have a huge library on medicinal and poisonous plants and could probably find you some more information on C. temulum of an ethnobotanical nature, but, regarding chemistry, your Googling for recent scientific papers will be as good as mine! I wish you the best of luck in your continuing research.
- Do stay in touch - I’m interested in anything further you may discover.
- best wishes

- Hello Diannaa
- Thanks for the ‘heads up’ re. the copyrighted nature of the material in my blockquotes from the journal Arnoldia concerning Poliothyrsis. I have duly removed them, replacing them, as per your suggestion, with my own original text based on the material for which I lacked the necessary permission.

[edit]Hi, I see you've contributed a lot to Xtabay, would you be interested in a taskforce on oral tradition? Kowal2701 (talk) 18:19, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Kowal2701
- Thanks for the invitation to the taskforce on oral tradition. I’m not sure that I’m really qualified to join such an august body. I’m not an expert on oral tradition as such. My particular interests are ethnobotany and mythology, with particular reference to entheogenic plants - hence the Xtabay edits re. Ololiuhqui and Mammillaria heyderi. I started editing Xtabay having looked up the name of the Maya demon out of curiosity after listening to the Yma Sumac album Voice of the Xtabay.
- cordially yours

- That's okay, you don't need to be an expert at all. If you're sort of interested, there's a section on the taskforce page which has sources for those interested but unfamiliar Kowal2701 (talk) 20:11, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
