[edit]

The {{See also}} tag does not go at the end of sections. I've reverted your edit on Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The template didn't belong at the end of the section and doesn't belong in the article. Adding sentences about Lenin enrollment might be ok, but not a "random link" that talks about a two year period in an article the summarizes 60 years of history. No problem. Having made a single first-class cricket or List A cricket appearance makes the notability threshold. Note that the "1 match" notability also applies to lots of other sports, including but not limited to, football, baseball and American football. Thanks. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. References

[edit]

Remember that when adding content about health, please only use high-quality reliable sources as references. We typically use review articles, major textbooks and position statements of national or international organizations (There are several kinds of sources that discuss health: here is how the community classifies them and uses them). WP:MEDHOW walks you through editing step by step. A list of resources to help edit health content can be found here. The edit box has a built-in citation tool to easily format references based on the PMID or ISBN. We also provide style advice about the structure and content of medicine-related encyclopedia articles. The welcome page is another good place to learn about editing the encyclopedia. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:39, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Doc James. I was relying on the references in the link target article, Vitaxin. I have now moved a relevant reference over to Colorectal cancer too. I hope that is okay? Eno Lirpa (talk) 12:38, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

beg to differ

[edit]

by your recent edits obviously you go for non consultative grabs and go edits - your moving 2004 icons to the main wa article is a bit brash.

Western australia has a separate centenary article, and a 150th - it doesnt take much if you review them, that the 2004 icons article does not have to stand by your definition. try a bit of consultation perhaps ? JarrahTree 13:31, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[1] that edit goes against the fact that there is already Centenary of Western Australia and WAY 79, as well as other articles that can be interdependent about heritage in western australia...JarrahTree 13:35, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

JarrahTree. Yes it was bold. And you reverted it and did a better job in the end. Thanks. I see deorphaning one way or the other as a means of getting the wikicommunity's attention to articles and it has worked a treat this time. Thanks again. It was a considered action, knowing the policy behind boldness.

No I am not a gab and go editor. Only two such in my recent edits does not define a trend, and the other one earned me a thank you. Rest assured I do not do such very often.

Regarding "See Also" section for Radio Adelaide Article Page

[edit]

Hello! Thanks for contributing to the Radio Adelaide Wikipedia page. I have removed your "See Also" section due to its irrelevance as such a section does not fit well with the rest of the article. Thank you very much Eno for your intention to tidy up the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_the_Guardians wiki page. I am very happy that someone else is now looking after this; And more than pleased to not longer have this concern. If you have any query, please don't hesitate to contact me. Warmly Lenny (aka Jean de Cabalis) Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BrotherTeyth Again thank you for attending this matter and resolving its issues. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.109.208.118 (talk) 02:36, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but I am not looking after it. Indeed I may never look at it again. It is an isolated article with many issues, and may well attract negative attention eventually from the wikipedia community. It needs a lot work to bring it up to standard. Eno Lirpa (talk) 12:38, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eno, can you please reconsider and look after this page (or find someone whom is willing). Any one who is a member has conflict of interest, so cannot do it. And I clearly do not have the skills nor the ability to do this to the standard required by Wiki. Also the page is not up to date as you can tell by http://www.guardians-sanctuary.org/ various pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.109.211.18 (talk) 22:16, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but it is not my area of interest, at least at this time. You can edit if you have a CoI although is it highly discouraged. The key thing for you to do is declare your CoI on the article's talk page, and, critically, make sure any edits and article text and statements you do and make are referenced back to sources independent of you and the organisation, see WP:RS. You also must make sure your edits are balanced and have a neutral point of view, see WP:NPOV, that is you cannot just pick out only prefect and good things about your organisation if there are also things that could be perceived by others as negative, embarrassing, or controversial. Eno Lirpa (talk) 12:26, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to tell you I love the way you formatted that article, to the point that I've used it as a model for both List of villages in The Gambia and List of places in Afghanistan. ♠PMC(talk) 14:49, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. But it was by no means original, and it has been modified since by others. Eno Lirpa (talk) 11:01, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah well, it was the first I saw of it, so I just assumed. Anyway, very cool. And also, I see we have similar de-orphaning goals :) Glad to see someone else slogging around in the crusty depths. It's amazing, sometimes, what manages to avoid getting noticed and deleted for so many years. ♠PMC(talk) 19:25, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your new article "List of country groupings"

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you created List of country groupings. I created List of business region acronyms a while back. Why do you think there needs to be another article about basically the same thing? Bonomont (talk) 23:13, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I did realise they potentially overlap somewhat, but I do see them as different things. You will note I have mutually see alsoed them. I am also not sure about the title, List of business region acronyms. Many of them are not regions as all. And some are not related specifically to commerce as such. It might be better called List of international acronyms as it stands ? And I think such is needed. I was thinking of moving it accordingly. And which would include many that are not related to countries as such at all. Also I am working to move !my article away from acronyms to the full name as the primary reference point. Eno Lirpa (talk) 11:02, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I get where you're coming from, but I think your list is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the entries are first and foremost organizations, not country-groups, like AU, OECD, OPEC, the UN, and the EU. For those, we already have an article, List of intergovernmental organizations. So you should remove these. Others are first and foremost trade blocs, like ECO and Mercosur, for which we already have the category Category:Trade blocs, which I suggest you also remove. Bonomont (talk) 13:53, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I am also seeing your point. The whole area is a bit of a mish mash I think. I would like to come back to you with a proposal to collaborate on a tidy up, but it might take me a couple of days to get my thoughts together and then written down. Eno Lirpa (talk) 13:23, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, looking forward to it! :-) Bonomont (talk) 11:04, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Eno Lirpa. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Mary Gabrielse, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Mary Gabrielse to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

Thanks, but all I did was deorphan all of them into what was an existing redlink. Each article already has its own references, so I do not see the need to duplicate what would then be redundant material. Eno Lirpa (talk) 13:35, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Boleyn (talk) 18:29, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Boleyn. Done. When deorphaning and creating lists of linked to articles I normally rely on the linked to article being already sourced, as it should be anyway, and hence re-adding the same reference for the same item seems to me to be redundant and cluttering. Regards. Eno Lirpa (talk) 22:38, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
PS For example, surely you are not suggesting that everyone of these has its own duplicated reference? Eno Lirpa (talk) 22:41, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Eno Lirpa, thanks for responding to my message. If you look at WP:SOURCELIST: Lists, whether they are stand-alone lists (also called list articles) or embedded lists, are encyclopedic content just as paragraph-only articles or sections are. Therefore, all individual items on the list must follow Wikipedia's content policies: the core content policies of Verifiability (through good sources in the item's one or more references), No original research, and Neutral point of view, plus the other content policies as well. Although the format of a list might require less detail per topic, Wikipedia policies and procedures apply equally to both a list of similar things as well as to any related article to which an individual thing on the list might be linked. Having the reference there would not feel redundant or cluttering to a reader or editor who is just looking at the list without examining all articles. The List of English writers is a very different list article to this one. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 06:14, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I am aware of what the guideline says. I think it is telling that it seems you agree the some lists will not benefit from sources or would at least be very difficult to source in a practical way. So the question is then where and how is the line drawn. I do realise that the best place for a discussion such as this should be in a much wider forum, but none the less I think there is an issue here? Eno Lirpa (talk) 09:02, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see an issue - the list you linked to is an irregular one, and is more like a strange kind of dab linking to several lists, rather than a list in itself. I think the basic issue is that information on WP - whether in a list article or any other sort of article - needs to be verified and clearly so. Boleyn (talk) 13:25, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I did actually mean the whole list of (lists of) English writers. It is really one list, just split over four pages due to its size. None of these pages have any references and there would need to be many many hundreds per page. Eno Lirpa (talk) 13:38, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest that material needs referencing in any list of pages (the lists of English writers are such) if it does not appear on the page that constitutes an entry. Oh dear, that doesn't sound very clear, does it? So Helen Zimmern doesn't need referencing in List of English writers (R-Z) because her dates and her description appear on her own page. Bmcln1 (talk) 16:04, 28 October 2017 (UTC)0[reply]
I think you and I are saying exactly the same thing, but Boleyn is saying no. Yes the guideline is clear but that does not mean it is correct, in terms of feasibility and practicality. I would think that if a reader is at all interested in a list entry they are going to go to that article. I very much doubt that a reader, at all interested in the subject matter, would only want to verify why a list entry is there, without going to the entry. (But, this is not really the place to have this discussion if we want anything to come of it. And, I must admit, it would not be one of my priorities for my wikitime.) Eno Lirpa (talk) 00:30, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WP:SOURCELIST is clear and fits perfectly with WP:V - all articles need their information to be referenced, not somewhere else on Wikipedia, but in the article the reader is looking at. Boleyn (talk) 18:27, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lists

[edit]

Hi there, Thank you for your kind suggestion. :) I think we do need to start working on club lists given that our project is being destroyed. Here and now is probably not the time, we need to let things blow over first. I'm not very happy at all right now that this is happening and that thirteen years of work is going down the drain.

First-class players' lists by team would be useful - although I'm not quite sure if that's true now that people are going to be super-keen to remove redlinks. I think we need to let things settle first and let the deletionists have their way first. I'll get back to you when this blows over. Bobo. 13:12, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Indian cricket lists

[edit]

Hi, for some unknown reason I missed your previous message on my talk page. Re completing the lists started by you, I am providing CricketArchive links below.

The links have complete lists of cricketers grouped by the first letter of their last names. The lists are in the format of P. Adams 1984/85-1985/86 (the years indicate the span of the player's career with that team). Copy-paste the entire list to Notepad, and replace delimiters such as tabs and spaces with "* [[" and "]], " to get the list in Wikipedia list format of * [[P. Adams]], 1984/85–1985/86. The only thing you'll need to type is the player's first name. I followed these simple steps to create long lists such as List of Maharashtra cricketers.

CricketArchive is now behind a paywall, but there are browser extensions/tricks which you can use to breach the paywall and access the site. Dee03 14:46, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Boleyn. I know we have disagreed on this before. Do you really want 817 references added to this one page, when they are already on each linked article page ? It will turn this 50kB page into a 100kB page without adding any information that is not already easily and directly accessible in this wikipedia ? Eno Lirpa (talk) 12:57, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There are lots of other options, for instance they are likely to all be listed together in a source elsewhere, or at least some of them. As it stands, it's just WP:OR and WP:Wikipedia is not a reliable source (assuming you got the list just from entries to a category or through Wikipedia). Still having a problem with Wikipedia search?

[edit]

I've written a script to enhance search results, including a workaround for the annoying intitle bug. In addition to that built-in (default) feature (which I call "TrueMatch"), the script also provides some menu items for doing various things (like sort the search results, strip out details, add * [[]] list item formatting for easy copy/paste, and more).

It's not ready for general announcement yet, but I thought you might want to give it a test drive.

If so, let me know on its talk page how well it works for you, any problems you come across, ways to improve it, and so on.

The script is SearchSuite.js, and its discussion area is at the bottom of that talk page. Hope to see you there.

The article List of populated places in North Sumatra has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unnecessary list - also extremely incomplete.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve.
