CCR

[edit]

Hi, Bob. Just wondering why you unlinked "Golliwogs" on the CCR page... can you drop something on the discussion page to explain?

Done -- see comments at Talk:Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Hi. would you take a look at the most recent addition of Kyle McGhee on this list and let me know what you think. It looks like BS to me but I wanted to get another opinion before rv. Thanks, hydnjo talk 00:37, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks, he's gone. Is this list on your watchlist just in case, then one should catch another dubious entry. hydnjo talk 16:28, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay but I completely missed your post to my talk page last Wednesday. I must have gone there to check on something without noticing the alert message. I noticed it belatedly on my watchlist. My bad, see you at the list. --hydnjo talk 03:25, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Raytheon

[edit]

Comment posted on Avalyn's talk page: As an employee I am personally well familair with Raytheon's seven major businesses, which are also listed on their public website. Your edit of the Raytheon article earlier today claimed eight, which I have temporarily reverted since you did not identify the eighth business. I'd be interested in hearing your point of view. Engineer Bob 05:00, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

It was my mistake; I meant to edit Raytheon to include Raytheon Polar Services, before realizing that RPS is a division of Raytheon Technical Services. While the edit was going through, I got a wiki "unable to connect to database" error, and when I checked it after, the word "seven" was still there, hence my non-correction of it. Seems to have been a temporary hiccup. Avalyn 22:39, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago...

[edit]

Thanks for the encouragement. I had seen how empty some of the album articles were and I thought Chicago deserved better, so I beefed some of them up. As for the chronology box, Stone of Sisyphus was never a reality (rather like SMiLE for The Beach Boys) and that's why I think both shouldn't be in the regular discography and chronology. I'm glad you agree. I'm in utter amazement to know that Chicago were eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and still aren't in yet! Just crazy... ALR 67

[edit]

Hi Bob! I did redirect the ALR-67 page so it is more descriptive with the new title. I am pretty busy at work, but I will try to add more systems later. Feel free to read and correct my english. (Explanation...) I think Wikipedia lacks of EW topics... Let's work on it!

By the way, I saw The Buckinghams last winter, and I really liked it!

Please look at this page (Don Bosco)

[edit]

If you are a supporter of Don Bosco, take a look at this page.

Hey Bob, I saw you made the article for Emile Ardolino. I never met him but I am looking to find any information about him that I can. How did you know about him? (unsigned comment posted 28 February 2006 by 151.199.33.191)

If you look at the uniforms in the film, and in the images in the article, they are clearly USAF uniforms. I remember that Sgt. King's, and Don Knott's character's stripes are the downward pointing AF stripes rather than the upward pointing Army stripes. Where did you get your information? --rogerd 13:15, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article I started covers the original Mac Hyman novel as well as the 1958 film and 1964 TV series (and someone else has now added the comic books). The novel was set in the WW II Army Air Corps as stated; the film and comics updated it to the USAF as you have noted. I'll try to add that clarification to the article at my next opportunity. Engineer Bob 16:53, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see, I have seen the film several time, but not read the book. That probably explains why the "Ben" character wanted to be transferred to the infantry. Once the services were split, that would have been unlikely, but transferring between branches of the Army would have been more likely. To be completely accurate, then I should say that the United States Army Air Corps ceased to exist on June 20, 1941 (prior to Pearl Harbor), to be replaced by the United States Army Air Forces until September 18, 1947 when the USAF was established. Thanks. --rogerd 17:09, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just occurred to me that the despite the fact that the USAAF succeeded the USAAC in 1941, many (perhaps most) people continued to refer to the Army's air arm as the "Air Corps" throughout WWII, and the book probably followed this popular reference. However, for an encyclopedia article, the AAF name would be correct. --rogerd 00:24, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Time zones

[edit]

Hi Engineer Bob. You just deleted the new March 30 section I made to WP:RFD and moved my comment to March 29 to "correct" it. Here in the UK it was March 30th when I made that edit though! I'm not sure if there is a policy or guideline about this but I'm about to move mine back to March 30 and leave yours in March 29 simply so that the section links in our respective contribution histories lead to the right place.. right now you have left mine broken. On the other hand, if we use UTC then both our posts were in the wrong date (yours should be march 30 and mine March 29). If there is an accepted practice that I'm not aware of about what time zone to use for these things, feel free to revert me! Cheers (and night night, I'm off to bed!) ~ VeledanTalk 00:50, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I just came back to put it back under March 29 myself, but someone else has beaten me to it. And I congratulate myself on the above comment for finding the thinnest argument for undoing a change in the history of wikipedia :-) Feel free to remove this section if you like ~ VeledanTalk 05:29, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The standard is to use UTC -- which is why I moved your post -- but I managed to misread my clock and posted my own nomination under the wrong date! Someone else has placed both of our postings in their correct date sections. Thanks for the feedback. Engineer Bob 07:58, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aye, for what it's worth I felt pretty foolish when I thought it over again this morning. I should know better than to think I make sense at 2am! Thanks for putting it right in the first place. ~ VeledanTalk 12:11, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am currently working on getting rights to the copy on the MMB website. As a former member I assumed certain liberties, but I will hopefully get rights to the copy that was rightfully removed. Terryfoster 14:00, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for understanding the copyright concerns. I see that you've already begun rewriting the main article in your own words. Many years ago I had the opportunity to play in Michigan stadium with the Purdue band, so I look forward to reading your revised article. - Engineer Bob 19:35, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have received approval to use the copy I took and posted this approval in the talk page for the Michigan Marching Band History. I'm not sure what i'm supposed to post to the copyright violation page to get this cleared up so that the copyright violation can be lifted. The benefit I see in posting the history to the Wikipedia is so that other users can add to the history as they see fit otherwise I could just post a link. - Terryfoster 19:16, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Bob...this page needs your help! Why so few Wikipedians are engineers?

[edit]

I am trying to understand why there are so few Wikipedians who are graduate engineers. Once I get a grasp on that, perhaps I may be able to formulate some ideas on how to attract more experienced engineers to become Wikipedians. It would be very helpful if you would respond to these a few questions:

  • Are you a university graduate engineer?
  • Please indicate in which of these engineering disciplines you obtained your degree:
    1. Aeronautical or aerospace engineering
    2. Bioengineer or biological engineering
    3. Chemical engineering
    4. Civil engineering
    5. Electrical engineering
    6. Environmental engineering
    7. Mechanical engineering
    8. Petroleum engineering
    9. Other
  • In what year did you obtain your degree?
  • What attracted you to participate in Wikipedia?

If you would rather not answer these questions on your Talk page, then you may respond on my User talk:mbeychok page. Or you may respond to me via Wikipedia's email which I have enabled on my User:mbeychok page.

If you would rather not respond at all, that's fine also. Regards, - mbeychok 04:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Hail Purdue!

[edit]

I don't think there's a copyright violation wrt the lyrics. Many universities' fight songs are actually available on Wikipedia. Also, the lyrics were published in 1913 and even assuming the song was copyrighted then, it has most certainly since expired and is therefore public domain. lower-case initials

[edit]

Hullo. Is the category you added to the CIVIL warS a joke, or is there a movement afoot to allow lower-case initials? That would be nice, since in this case the typography was a conscious choice on the part of the creator. Dybryd 05:02, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • That category has existed for quite some time; Wikipedia recognizes that some articles should begin with a lower-case letter, but for technical reasons all must start with a capital letter. When I stumbled across this article today I added the appropriate note and category for you. Engineer Bob 05:08, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bob, I submitted another new entry for Joel Larson that I wrote from scratch with assistance from Joel Larson himself and it was declined once again. Orphaned fair use image (Image:The Grass Roots - Anthology.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:The Grass Roots - Anthology.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Rant by Samuel Dass

[edit]

Hi Engineer Bob, Now that I've been unblocked, I've come to add some spices to your talk page. First of all, whether you like it or not I have to tell you this : you are a menace to Wikipedia!

You try to be noble by reverting my nonsense edit on If You Leave Me Now but take a look at your own contributions and they are all trivial and unencyclopedic!

Take for example the articles which you created on the group Chicago's songs. No doubt, Chicago is an internationally renowned group but you do not have to create articles on ALL their songs including the unnotable ones!

It is a waste of space and they should be put on a vote for deletion!

If this were to continue you would only tarnish the image of Wikipedia as a source of information!

Therefore, I call upon you to retire and do something else!

If you don't like what I am saying, you may block me if you like, anyway this is the LAST time I'm visiting Wikipedia! Finally, remember this: you're not that GREAT either!

Fair use rationale

[edit]

Thanks for uploading the following images:

I notice each image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please edit each image description page to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:43, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading the following images:

However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using these images under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to each image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:10, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged the Bob Crewe article as unreferenced in part of an overall push by Wikipedia to apply footnotes/reference citations wherever an assertion is being made (and I'm trying to do the same to the newer articles that I've written here as well). For an article that is several paragraphs long, there should be more than one source about the history of such an important producer/composer/performer over the past half-century (and, oh - the IMDB is not a reliable source as it is frequently incomplete and/or incorrect in their articles - and I have seen differing information about the same individuals in differing IMDB sites). Some of the information I can cite from sources I've mentioned in The Four Seasons (group) article, and you're welcome to use them if they're consistent with your info (I'll follow up later and cite my additions - I'm currently in the middle of writing an article for The Four Lovers, who evolved into the Four Seasons). I hope this helps... and pardon the verbage.

But believe me: if I hadn't tagged it, someone else would have. Best wishes, B.Wind 00:13, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Bob, if you can find a few more reliable sources that mention the information you have in the article, I'd think you could possibly get away with including them in a reference list (caveat: I am not an admin and I don't speak for any), but only one reliable source in a reference list is definitely a red flag (as it almost always gets someone suspicious of a copyvio). B.Wind 00:28, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • (Also posted on B.Wind's talk page:) Thanks for the quick response. My interpretation of Wikipedia:Citing sources is that the {{unreferenced}} tag is intended for articles with NO sources, yet the Bob Crewe article cites two sources (the IMDB was used in this article only as a source for birthplace/birthdate and filmography data). However, I'll see if I can add another source or two. -- Engineer Bob 07:10, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BS&T 3

[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering if you could give me your reasoning for reverting to the original image for Image:BS&T3 cover.jpg? The image I uploaded was color-corrected to match the original vinyl cover and also had the Columbia logo in the upper left like the original vinyl release. We really should be showing as accurate a depiction as possible of the original release for any album. Cheers! --Analogdemon (talk) 11:00, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • (Also posted on Analogdemon's talk page): I agree with you in principle -- however, I reverted to the lowest-resolution version available in an attempt to keep the image from getting deleted altogether. -- Engineer Bob 19:35, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(From Analogdemon's talk page): My version is low enough resolution as to be acceptable for Wikipedia. I'm going to revert it back and include appropriate fair-use rationale. Cheers! --Analogdemon (talk) 19:45, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).

I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.

If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!

If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.

Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 23:50, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, sorry for putting an invite banner on a MUCH more senior WPer, it's just that the engineering wikiproject seems to have been a little bit abandoned in recent months (/years!) and I'm trying to shuffle things up a touch and garner some more support. LA to FA 2022

Dear Engineer Bob,

You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here!
