notability

Hello, i just noticed you mark Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz with notability tag. may i ask why ? because she is Famous in Saudi Arabia. In fact she is more famous than Reem Al Faisal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mojackjutaily (talkcontribs) 11:52, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Mojackjutaily. The article seems rather promotional. Each statement should be cited, see WP:BLP. Please avoid using bare URLs. Edwardx (talk) 12:11, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
Promoting what? she is not a store. any way i placeed the references next to each paragraph, Unfortunately I do not know how to use the template. --Mojackjutaily (talk) 13:47, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I've fixed your references and removed the tag. Edwardx (talk) 22:14, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

Aalok Pradhan (filmmaker) article

Deat Sir/Madam This is Simran Kaur, I am HR of the company called Jarvis Technology & Political Consultant PVT Ltd.

Few days back we got a message from your side that this page/article is under deletation nominee, may i know the reason why?

As per wikipedia policy we have provided all the necessary links to prove the person is living and notable, then why his page/article is going to be deleted and under what circumstances?

He had worked with famous bollywood stars, done so many projects for bollywood as well as Government organization and still doing it so where the problem is??

Please let us know so that we can correct it our mistake and keep this page/article alive.

Regards and Thanks Simran Kaur Simranhr (talk) 02:05, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

The reasons for why Aalok Pradhan (filmmaker) has been nominated for deletion have been set out at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aalok Pradhan (film). It is essentially an issue of Wikipedia:Notability, and whether or not there is significant independent coverage in reliable sources. Please read our policies and try to improve the article accordingly, and advance policy-based arguments as to why you believe it should be kept. Edwardx (talk) 12:30, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Is it alright if I merge this article? It clearly falls under WP:NOTNEWS, considering it only received a day of news coverage and, although this point should be irrelevant, the incident was not terrorism.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 23:46, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind request. Please go ahead and merge it. Edwardx (talk) 12:23, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Done. The article has been merged and redirected to Vehicle-ramming attack. Thank you for fairly recognizing the subject was better suited for a merger.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 00:36, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Olayemi Esan

Mr Edward, Can you assist us to clean up the Vandalism? I can see you are an expert and you can really help esit...please assist Olayemi Esan Article to stay,,, thanks.

In the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Olayemi Esan, I have voted "delete", as in my view, she is not notable. Therefore, I have no interest in trying to improve the article on Olayemi Esan. Edwardx (talk) 22:12, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Brendan Murphy Page

Hi Edward. As you probably guessed, that was the first Wikipedia page I created. Although I read the guidelines, it turns out I didn't understand them clearly enough. I wanted to ask whether you can give me advice on how to edit the page to make it neutral and whether the page can be undeleted? Thanks in advance for the information :) Siri2011 (talk) 12:37, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Please read Wikipedia:Neutral point of view and Wikipedia:Notability (people), and study Wikipedia articles of similar people to see how such a page might be written. Then start a new article in your sandbox or as Draft:Brendan Murphy (artist), and then seek further advice. Edwardx (talk) 12:42, 4 September 2017 (UTC)
However, I don't think that any page on Brendan Murphy (artist) is likely to be able to meet our standards for notability, unless you can find enough independent in-depth coverage in reliable sources, see WP:SIGCOV. Edwardx (talk) 12:44, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Nomination of Coast (clothing) for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Coast (clothing) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Coast (clothing) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Greenbörg (talk) 16:04, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

The Signpost: 6 September 2017

The article Vlada Borovko has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Subject provides no claim of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nice edits on Lauder

Nice for you to get to those biography edits for the Lauder article. Your edits seems have some interest in various biography articles and I was wondering if you might consider doing the good article review for Alfred Hitchcock which I nominated from last month. TheFamousPeople.com as a source

Hi Edwardx. I've been looking over the use of thefamouspeople.com as a source or link in Wikipedia. There have been concerns of it being spammed, and doesn't appear to be a reliable source per Wikipedia:Help_desk/Archives/2017_May_29#The_Famous_People:_Reliable.3F. I noticed that you've added it, and wanted to let you know why I removed it. If you disagree, let's discuss it. Thanks. --Ronz (talk) 15:49, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, Ronz. Good call. Wouldn't normally use such a source, but wanted an extra one on that new page, and that was the only source that said he was Canadian. It's hardly controversial. Edwardx (talk) 09:05, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Editing American School of Paris page

I've recently been trying to update the American School of Paris page for them and have noticed that you deleted the 2 sections I just added entitled "21st Century Campus" and "Academics". I'm sure there must be a good reason for this and I just want to understand what I did wrong so as to avoid this in the future.

I just finished helping the school with their new website and they have lots of new information to include on the Wikipedia page. I would be most grateful if you could explain to me what we must do so I can make sure I get it right next time.

Many thanks Beewoman (talk) 13:47, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Beewoman. If you look at the "edit summary", it reads "uncited". A more pressing concern is indicated by your userpage, "I'm a web designer and am sometimes asked by clients to add/edit information about them on Wikipedia." You should read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and make an appropriate declaration. As you are in effect a paid editor, you should NOT be editing the American School of Paris directly, and rather propose changes on the article's talkpage. Edwardx (talk) 14:24, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I removed the reference to my profession on my userpage as I have never charged for Wikipedia edits or suggestions to my clients. In fact, this is the first time I am editing something on Wikipedia by helping my children's school to insert new information on their page and I am not charging them for this service. In fact, I offered to do it. I am therefore not a paid editor and regret that my userpage contained misleading information, which is why I completely removed the content there. Please accept my apologies. Rest assured that I will not attempt to make Wikipedia edits in the future, I did not intend any conflict of interest or misunderstanding. Best, Beewoman (talk) 14:56, 20 September 2017 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Beewoman (talkcontribs) 14:45, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
You do have a conflict of interest, as you have been paid by the American School of Paris to edit their website, and have also edited our article on the subject. You state that you are not a paid editor, yet you are "sometimes asked by clients to add/edit information about them on Wikipedia". Edwardx (talk) 08:59, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

Actually I don't have a conflict of interest as I was not paid for the website work I did for the school. I "offered" my services and was happy to do so. As I mentioned, I have removed the content on my user page as it was something I intended to do in the future but would NEVER have asked for payment for those services. Since reading the "Conflict of Interest" page, I realize that it was poor choice of working on my part and its not something I will ever do going forward. I will NEVER even attempt to advise anyone at all about editing on Wikipedia as I do not want to offend anyone or get into any trouble. Once again please accept my apologies for the confusion, you will not see any edits from me ever in the future. Beewoman (talk) 09:41, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

I'm not seeking to attack you, simply to help. Many newer editors do not appreciate how widespread conflicts of interest are on Wikipedia. Even if you are not being paid, you can still have a conflict of interest, and the simple fact that you have children at the school could be seen as a conflict of interest. This is all explained at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. If in doubt, always best to suggest changes on the article talkpage (with citations), rather than edit directly! Edwardx (talk) 10:40, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi Edward. Would you care to explain what led you to create Liu Ruopeng back in June? It's just that I noticed you created it only a few days before the draft of Kuang-Chi (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (the company that he founded) was created. As I've noted at this SPI and in the linked COIN case, the creation of Kuang-Chi is almost certainly undisclosed paid editing and it seems quite a coincidence, even for an editor of your prolificness, for the Ruopeng article to be created as well so close together. Thank you SmartSE (talk) 11:40, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks SmartSE, for bringing this to my attention. Honestly, I cannot recall with certainty why I started this one, having started articles on many billionaires. When I come across some news item about a "new" billionaire, I see if there is enough out there in reliable sources to merit an article. In this case, it appears to be the "commercial jetpack" and "Elon Musk of China" stuff as reported in SCMP and elsewhere. It looks like the article has rather grown since then, and some of the content may be questionable. I do try to monitor every article that I start, but one can miss things. Had not noticed Kuang-Chi, and it does read like an ad. Agreed it is odd that I started Liu Ruopeng on 2 June, and someone else started Kuang-Chi three days later, and that the later is almost certainly undisclosed paid editing. My best guess is having seen "my" article, they thought they could get away with starting one about the company. I have never received any payment for anything I have ever written on Wikipedia. Edwardx (talk) 15:11, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi Edward. Apologies for the delay in responding, I'd been away in a land where the internet is ephemeral earlier in the week. Thanks for the explanation. I noticed that it very much fitted in your interests but the timing just seemed a tad bizarre. Thanks also for starting to clean up Kuang-Chi - still some way to go but it is at least in better shape. Finally I hope you don't mind me asking - I kind of feel obligated to ask when I come across something like that. Cheers SmartSE (talk) 20:19, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
That's all fine, SmartSE. My editing activity would be a great cover for some undisclosed paid article creation! I question the COI, SPA and paid editing credentials of others often enough, that I do get asked myself from time to time. Fair enough. And thanks for you work on Kuang-Chi too. So many company articles are too promotional, even some of those without COI or paid editing issues. Edwardx (talk) 10:50, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

Edwardx, this was apparently promoted to prep despite there not being a QPQ, and when it was pulled it wasn't added back onto the Nominations page, and you never supplied the QPQ despite being pinged at the time of the pull.

Are you still interested in pursuing this DYK? If so, let me know, and I'll add it back to the nominations page despite the months that have passed. Under the circumstances, I would insist on a hard deadline of seven days from the restoration to provide the QPQ. Thank you for your understanding. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:02, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Please note: since you would have seen this within a couple of hours of my posting the above, I think it only appropriate that you have seven days from the date of my post to express interest in continuing the nomination. I do hope to hear from you; if not, I will close it. BlueMoonset (talk) 00:00, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Edwardx. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Max Lloyd-Jones, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Max Lloyd-Jones to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks,

Sadads (talk) 03:17, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Fair enough, Sadads. I only started it as a redirect to War for the Planet of the Apes, in which he has a role. KenMWannabe subsequently expanded to an article, which I agree that Lloyd-Jones does not yet (at least) merit. Perhaps we could go back to a redirect? Edwardx (talk) 14:59, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

Arron Banks

the wealth of this man is not accurately known, it is opaque, and the Guardian cite, says as much. The cite you prefer, leads to content one can't see, leads to a pay wall. I suggest you get a cite one can actually read before you reverse cited , RS , content , the reader can actually read. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.39.21 (talk) 19:54, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

That FT page is NOT paywalled, and states, "Mr Banks made his estimated £100m fortune in insurance but he has since diversified." If the FT estimates his net worth at £100m that counts as a reliable source. Edwardx (talk) 20:40, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
'Banks has previously claimed he is worth £100m. An estimate by the Sunday Times puts his fortune at £250m. However, an analysis by Open Democracy suggests the actual figure may be considerably lower.' The Guardian counts also as a reliable source for his worth being opaque. It is not certain.

And this is what I get when I click on your reference :

'Subscribe to read:

Tycoon Arron Banks unrepentant for backing Ukip'

So it is behind a paywall. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.39.21 (talk) 22:14, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Pranav Dhanawade requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". There's a filter that doesn't like it when a new account creates pages in another user's usespace. I've removed the AIV report; you'll have to check the history of WP:AIV/TB2 to see what Toddst1 is talking about. -Floquenbeam (talk) 14:43, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Looks like the filter being triggered is "New user creating a page in someone else's userspace". Joseph2302 (talk) 14:45, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Was training some new users at a local university. Last minute change of plan from the staff there. And the students were editing pages in my main account user space, while I was logged into my training account. Have to go out again and will investigate on my return. Edwardx (talk) 19:38, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Thank you Toddst1, Floquenbeam and Joseph for letting me know about this. Think I have worked out how to avoid it happening again. In any event, next time they should all have user IDs - there wasn't time today. Edwardx (talk) 21:18, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

A cheeseburger for you!

Here, take this! It will give you the strength to continue the fight! Vami_IV✠ 23:18, 4 November 2017 (UTC)
By curious coincidence, we cooked burgers this evening. No cheese on them though! Thanks. Edwardx (talk) 23:51, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Tahina Razafindramary - Djiboutian?

Hi Edwardx thank you for starting the article on Tahina Razafindramary. Unfortunately I do not think the subject of the article is actually from Djibouti as the article says. Actually per this source on the subject it seems that Djibouti is merely one of the many countries she works in, and she is actually from Southern Madagascar. Inter&anthro (talk) 15:41, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, Inter&anthro. Must have been tired when I wrote that. Definitely Madagascar, not Djibouti. Article expanded and corrected. Edwardx (talk) 16:00, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Forrest Preston

[1] states his birthdate. According to their website, they gather official records from birth certificates, arrest records, and other government sources.JUDAS MAIDEN (talk) 13:00, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, JUDAS MAIDEN. MyLife and similar websites simply harvest data from a variety of primary sources. Please see WP:BLPPRIMARY, for why we should not be using such sources to add the full date of birth of living people. Such full dates of birth must be published in reliable secondary sources. That is not the case for Forrest Preston. Therefore, I will be reverting your edit again. Edwardx (talk) 13:22, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Okay, but is it any big deal. I personally know Preston, and there's no reason to doubt this. MyLife sources come from government sources.JUDAS MAIDEN (talk) 13:24, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Where did you get his middle name? I don't see it in any of the sources.JUDAS MAIDEN (talk) 13:33, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
I do see your point, and a long, long time ago, I did sometimes add such information myself. However, it is not for us as editors to try to determine on a case-by-case basis who may or may not object to having their full DOB published on Wikipedia (and thus become widely disseminated), when it was only previously available in relatively obscure primary sources. The policy on this is quite clear. Also, some people do worry about such information being used to enable cyberfraud, identity theft, and suchlike (even if such a concern may result from a misunderstanding of how such crime actually occurs). Edwardx (talk) 13:37, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
As for his middle name, I cannot recall. But this article does use it, Cities of Promise: Cleveland, Tennessee. Edwardx (talk) 13:37, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Have just added that as a reference. Edwardx (talk) 13:39, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
Don't know if that's the best source, but I don't doubt it. I'm not going to waste my time there. I've found some geneologies on Ancestry.com that are consistent with the date I've added, but if I cite them, only members of Ancestry will be able to view them. Would that be okay? JUDAS MAIDEN (talk) 18:36, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

The article Wahaca has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

Trussardi (disambiguation)

Hello, Edwardx – little popups that say that someone "thanked you for your edit" are always appreciated, so thanks for spotting that I'd tweaked Trussardi (disambiguation). I notice that you started both Trussardi (disambiguation) and Trussardi (surname) and I'm wondering if both are needed. I put a merge suggestion on the surname page. What do you think? — Hebrides (talk) 07:51, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, Hebrides. If one has taken the time to check out the edit, why not spend a few seconds more thanking someone for it. Your efforts in tidying up after me are appreciated. As regards the merge, I don't mind either way. Edwardx (talk) 12:11, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

Merging articles

Hi, can we discuss, please? It's unfortunate we've ended up with two duplicate articles, but I've explained the situation at Talk:Elizabeth Sharples, we need to end up with a referenced article containing the best content from each. Warofdreams talk 23:35, 14 November 2017 (UTC)

Warofdreams, please see Talk:Elizabeth Sharples for my reply. Edwardx (talk) 23:02, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of TickX

Hi Edwardx, I just wanted to discuss the deletion of TickX. I created the page to separate it from Tickex, and didn't mean to come across like a promotion. Is there anything that can be changed to reinstate it? Thanks for your help! Kalmgirl (talk) 08:09, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Kalmgirl. I see that you have managed to create a more neutral version. Well done. Edwardx (talk) 23:03, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
