[edit]Mitchell Trubisky
[edit]I want to add an image for Mitchell Trubisky in the infobox. How do you do it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LaDanian1000000 (talk • contribs) 00:11, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @LaDanian1000000: Take a look at Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. If you need more help, ask here or on my talk page and we'll walk you through it. —Guanaco 00:19, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
donations
[edit]You are asking for donations. I do not paying my money to LGBT project. You say: „Marriage” is possible „man – cow”, no sorry. I will not to pay money to a ideological project. 213.5.141.148 (talk) 00:17, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Marriage IMHO is only within man and women. 213.5.141.148 (talk) 00:19, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Donation is completely voluntary, and many users of Wikipedia never donate. One of the goals of Wikipedia is maintaining a neutral point of view. If you have concerns about the neutrality of a specific article, I recommend discussing it on the article's talk page. (See Help:Using talk pages.) —Guanaco 00:22, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- "Man and women"? In other words, we need to promote polygamy to get you to open your wallet. RivertorchFIREWATER 05:51, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Wikipedia does not itself have an opinion on marriage, it just reports what others have written. There are churches and cultures that still define marriage as being "between one man and one woman", as it was generally understood for hundreds of years since the word came into use around 1300 AD. In December 2000, the Oxford English Dictionary commented: "The term is now sometimes used with reference to long-term relationships between partners of the same sex". Wikipedia does not support either viewpoint, it just reports. Dbfirs 06:58, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Don't donate, then. It's your money. Britmax (talk)
Image Size
[edit]How do you figure out the size of an image? For example, an image of Dontari Poe had a size of 275. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LaDanian1000000 (talk • contribs) 00:27, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- If you're browsing with a typical web browser (non-mobile), you can click on nearly image to see a larger version. Then for more details about the image, click the blue "More details" button on the lower right corner of the screen. —Guanaco 00:39, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- I see what you're talking about now. Images are uploaded in varying sizes, but editors can set them to different sizes in the article so they display appropriately. If you edit the Dontari Poe article without saving, you can see the wiki source code which contains this information. —Guanaco 00:44, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Pseudophilosophy
[edit]The wiki article on Pseudophilosophy states philosophy means "love of knowledge" however this is incorrect. Please refer to the wiki article on Philosophy states philosophy means "love of wisdom" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.68.76.67 (talk) 01:02, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and made the change. Next time you see an error, you can usually fix it yourself by editing the article. —Guanaco 01:10, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Orlando, Florida, entry.
[edit]In the first paragraph the population of Orlando is incorrectly given, to wit: "...had an estimated city-proper population of 2,270,934... The correct number would be 270,934, according to the "historical population" matrix further in the article. Someone inadvertently put an extra "2". 2601:1C2:4F03:D55D:7C9D:289B:13:AD54 (talk) 01:26, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- It was a recent change and it's already been fixed. Thanks for pointing it out. —Guanaco 02:10, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Non-free content
[edit]Is this image okay to use as non-free content. I want to use it on the Sade (band) article. I am not aware of a more current image of the band members. If yes, then how can I upload it? Mitchumch (talk) 04:56, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Mitchumch: I would have to say that no fair use image of the band would ever be acceptable because a free use image of the band is already available. So every fair use image would immediately fail WP:NFCCP #1. It doesn't really matter that the image is of them playing, policy wise. I would have to say that the image we have serves the same encyclopedic purpose as that one. --Majora (talk) 05:01, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Majora: I don't understand. Wikipedia doesn't have an image of the band members faces. Sade the singer has a clear image of her face on her biographical article page. What should I do to get an image of the other three members faces? The existing image on the band article doesn't show people who they are. Mitchumch (talk) 05:07, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Mitchumch: File:Sade Adu 1.jpg is also a free image. No fair use image would be able to be used for identification purposes either (for that reason and the fact that she is still living). You'll notice that Paul Denman and Stuart Matthewman do not have photos because they are still living. And all photos of living people are assumed to fail the fair use requirements. Our fair use policy is strict and a little odd sometimes on what is allowed and what isn't. In this particular instance fair use photos of the band members would not be acceptable, in my opinion, due to the fact that we already have a free use photo of the band. Policy wise that is what matters. Not whether or not the image is a close up. In terms of the fair use policy and from past experience, the free use photo of the band playing instantly trumps every fair use photo rendering their use impossible.
As for what you can do, you can attempt to search for free photos already out there, or you can attempt to contact the band through social media to see if they would be willing to release a photo for our uses (you'd be surprised how many times people say yes). I'm sorry, but as it stands I don't see how that photo can be used here. --Majora (talk) 05:16, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Majora: That's a bummer. I appreciate your explanation. I'll have to keep looking then. Thanks. Mitchumch (talk) 05:35, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Business CV
[edit]Good morning ,
I would like to tell me how to add a CV of a Businessman and if search his name from a search machine (Google) the first search will be his CV . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nkaratzis (talk • contribs) 06:25, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Nkaratzis. Where do you want to add this? Please note that Wikipedia does not host CVs under any circumstances. If you're asking about adding it somewhere else, you might try asking at the reference desk instead; the help desk is strictly for questions about editing Wikipedia. The Famous People: Reliable?
[edit]I was looking for information to add to the page about poet James Wright about his death, and came across nothing that might be usable until I came to a web site at http://www.thefamouspeople.com. It seems a little sketchy, though. Is it an acceptable reference? Dgndenver (talk) 07:07, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- This discussion did not appear to reach a conclusion, but gives several reasons to doubt it as a reliable source. Perhaps asking again at WP:RSN would be a good idea. --ColinFine (talk) 09:53, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- I agree with the commenters here. This site doesn't even bother giving any information at all about who wrote its content or what quality controls are in place (if any). Check out the biography for Einstein – apparently his most notable discoveries/inventions are the "Law Of The Photoelectric Effect" [sic] and the Einstein Refrigerator? Then it offers a couple of disputed quotes, without any indication that their veracity is questionable. And apparently Lynn Margulis "completely altered the concept of how life arose on Earth." This site is a testament to the fact that anyone can publish anything on the internet. Adrian J. Hunter(talk•contribs) 12:10, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- In light of this, it appears to be a user-generated site, and consequently is never going to be considered a reliable source for Wikipedia's purposes. ‑ Iridescent 12:14, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Oh wow, so they ask contributors to provide sources, then don't even display them on the site. Appalling. Adrian J. Hunter(talk•contribs) 01:22, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- FWIW, the Einstein refrigerator is a genuine thing. ‑ Iridescent 12:15, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Genuine, yes, but surely not one of his top two contributions to humanity. Adrian J. Hunter(talk•contribs) 01:22, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Then I'll just keep looking! I may look in scholarly articles. Thanks, anyway. Dgndenver (talk) 15:35, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

[edit]What's the process to report/take action/etc with regard to people or organisations that are using Wiki material without the correct attribution?
I've just found out that one of my image uploads is being used by a commercial concern without being attributed back to either me or Wikipedia. I could obviously just contact them directly, but that would then be effectively outing myself, something I'm not keen to do. Chaheel Riens (talk) 09:09, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, Chaheel Riens. Does WP:MIRROR#Non-compliance process help? --ColinFine (talk) 09:56, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi ColinFine "Letter aimed at a specific violation" - this is the one I want, I think. Thanks for the pointer. Chaheel Riens (talk) 10:21, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, Ravi — Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.200.196.234 (talk) 11:30, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hello there. You seem to suggest that Wikipedia should include tutorial, guides, how-to or the like. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and such things are outside its scope. (The chances of that changing anytime soon are very low.)
- You may be interested by our sister project Wikibooks. The rest of the internet is full of tutorial for a lot of things, too; you can start by the references at the end of our articles. TigraanClick here to contact me 15:50, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Imagemap
[edit]Is the Imagemap Isle of Wight in the correct namespace? How do I include this imagemap in articles? {{Imagemap Isle of Wight}}
does not work, as you can see here at the red link.--Ratzer (talk) 12:36, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Looks like moving the map to Template:Imagemap Isle of Wight took care of the problem.--Ratzer (talk) 12:42, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Ratzer: Instead of moving, you could have transcluded by prefacing with a colon. By default transclusion will source from the Template namespace. To transcluded other namespaces, you need to prefix with their namespace. For the main namespace, you then use only the colon
{{:Imagemap Isle of Wight}}
(it has an 'empty' namespace name). —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 13:12, 29 May 2017 (UTC)- Thank you for your thorough explanation. Greetings, ---Ratzer (talk) 13:35, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

[edit]SIR I AM A STUDENT OF XI CLASS WITH SCIENCE STREAM. I WANT TO CHANGE IT IN XII CLASS. CAN I DO IT ACCORDING TO CBSE RULES. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.205.82.106 (talk) 12:45, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

Layout help
[edit]In Battle of Okinawa in the US losses section, there is a left anchored photo and a block text quote that a causing a layout with the text far away from the prior prose and a big section of whitespace (the other photos may also be contributing). This happens when I am viewing at full-screen, but everything looks more normal if I resize the window smaller (this is obviously on a desktop view). Is there a way to improve this screen-size dependent behavior? MB 22:34, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- I see whitespace above the quote when zooming out to 50%. It's caused by {{Clear}} right before {{quote}}. I don't see a good reason for {{Clear}} there but somebody may have added it to avoid what they considered to be a layout problem on their screen. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:02, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- Well, strangely I do not see the problem anymore. I was seeing the left-anchored photo on the left, several other photos on the right, and all whitespace in-between; most of the screen was white. Now I only see a small area of whitespace above the quote (which seems to be what you saw). There have been no changes to the article, but the display is different now. I went ahead and removed the {{Clear}} which removed the small area as well. MB
Friendly Fire Incidents
[edit]Chris Troutman told me that a FFA in Vietnam didn't happen. My father was at Firebass Birmingham on March 16, 1968 When F-4 Phantoms bombed it by accident killing 16 and wounding 48. FSB Birmingham (grid YD707102) in mid March 1968 shortly after it was established by the 1/327th and days after a ‘friendly fire’ attack by Naval/Marine aircraft. He served with C 1/327 101st and to tell me it didn't happen he can go to www.327infantry.org and talk to guys that were there. It took a little effort to find the info maybe he should to. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.179.243.226 (talk) 23:35, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
