Curling Club Info Box
[edit]I was hoping you could give me some help in developing a template / infobox for physical curling clubs. I noticed the Ottawa Curling Club has a very nice table in the infobox style. Just looking to standardize it. What other info should be added? Rock colours, number of sheets, founded, address, coord, logo, photo, ice tech, manager, owner, country/province/region/zone breakdown, hosted majors. --Coppercanuck (talk) 21:22, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Curling Bio Template
[edit]I noticed that there is a template 'curling-bio-stub', but not a 'curling-bio'. When the stub status gets dropped does a category just get added? Is the a manual for a curling bio layout? infobox, medal tables, team tables, etc. Also I just went back to WikiProject Curling Proposal and I'm still the only one. Can you help spread he word? --Coppercanuck (talk) 05:40, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of international ice hockey competitions featuring NHL players
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of international ice hockey competitions featuring NHL players, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Low quality, biased (NHL focus instead of professional players), almost all sections suggested to be merged with their main articles, information available elsewhere
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image copyright problem with File:NDP90s.PNG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:NDP90s.PNG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

[edit]Thanks for your additions and corrections to the Pat Ryan article. Do you have any sources for that information, citations? --Bejnar (talk) 03:00, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, my edits involved removing some stuff that wasn't sourced, so I'm not sure what you were getting at. Maybe you want me to source the rest of the article? -- Earl Andrew - talk 05:33, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, I see, you weren't adding that information, you were restoring it. You might want to look at including edit summaries when editing Wikipedia articles. Yes, if you have sources for the material in the article, it would be great if you could provide it. I see that you are the major contributor to the article. Speedy deletion of Chris Gardner (curler)
[edit]A tag has been placed on Chris Gardner (curler) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Questionable use of administrator tools
[edit]Hi. I speedy-deleted an article you created, Chris Gardner (curler), under article A7 of the speedy deletion criterion, since I felt that the article failed to establish or assert his notability. More particularly, I do not see any indication that a provincial curling championship represents the highest level of the sport, which is the notability criterion for inclusion noted at WP:ATH. This may be a point on which I can be educated and I'm willing to be proven wrong. However, it was not appropriate to restore the article unilaterally (particularly without notifying me of the change) or to proceed to remove the speedy deletion template from an article that you created (as is explicitly prohibited by the template). I don't want to get involved in wheel warring, so although I first restored the template, I have since removed it in hopes of hearing your explanation.
This led me to check our respective admin logs, since I knew I had recently deleted another article on a related curler. That article, Derek Abbotts, remains deleted at this time and was probably an autobiography, given that it was created by User:Derekabbotts. However, that editor also repeatedly removed speedy deletion tags from his own article, and since the articles were clearly related to each other, please let me know what's going on before restoring that article.
On your admin log, I note that the entry below your restoration of the Gardner page was a five-year block of an IP address that had only edited Wikipedia three times. That is clearly discouraged by the blocking policy and Wikipedia:Blocking IP addresses#Block lengths. For that matter, the vandalism involved was quite tame and your only warning showed no indication that a block might be imminent.
I recognize that you have been with Wikipedia for a long time and that things are likely to have become more bureaucratic during your stay here, but I believe both of these actions were counterproductive and I'd suggest that you review relevant policy before using your administrator tools in the future. Please remove your block of the IP address and let me know what venue you'd like to use (perhaps AfD) to get an outside opinion on the notability of the curler. Dekimasuよ! 04:59, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:2009brier.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:2009brier.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Inaccuracy of Ontario Election Maps
[edit]On the image file "Referendum.PNG", the southern boundary of Parry Sound--Muskoka is inaccurate. It includes most of the Township of Algonquin Highlands. According to all the maps that I've seen and the law [S.O. 2005, Ch. 35, Sched. 1, s. 2(2)] "In accordance with the process by which the federal electoral districts were established, the Municipality of Algonquin Highlands forms part of the southern electoral district of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock rather than part of the northern electoral district of Parry Sound-Muskoka." File:Bc09.PNG colours
[edit]HI Earl Andrew; I just happened to see this map this morning because somebody had posted it on the forum on Rafe Mair's latest column in The Tyee, and wanted to comment that - as before - I find the use of federal-Liberal party colours for the BC Liberals very unhelpful; the same applies at the national level but it's also a truism that the slogan/logo colours of hte BC Liberals are NOT red, but rather blue and green, and more of a sky blue than Tory blue. The map is extremely difficult to work out, especially "at a glance", and takes some referring to the legend to sort out visually. I know this isn't your own fault, as this colour-convention has been in use for quite a while, and is rooted in the notion that the BC Liberals are the provincail branch of the federal Liberals (which they are not). and that's a common misconception right across the country; the provincial media maps expressly use blue for the BC Liberals, as was also used for the Socreds in times past. Having a map with a whole bunch of different shades of ochre and dun just doesn't work; I guess this should be taken up at PPAP but I felt like commenting on it now, being confronted with the map over morning coffee.....compare to, for example of many p0ossibilities, the maps on the BC election 2009 blog by Sacha Peter.Skookum1 (talk) 13:56, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

NDP Candidates in the Upcoming election...
[edit]Good Evening, Earl Andrew.
I apologize for not trying to work with you first on finding a compromise for this article. I would have kept the article the way it was, but I myself was approached by another user (User:Nezzadar) to change the lists into one that "looks better". Archive of the discussion
My only attempt here was to maintain the same format for all of the articles. I understand what you are trying to do with the NDP page right now, but as I saw it, it was only part-way finished, only having a couple ridings listed, with plenty of redlinks and definitely in need of cleanup.
That information (Votes, %, and Rank) is all pertinent, but maybe it should be added after the election (whenever it should occur), that way, we can add it to all the articles. Either that, or interested parties can go on to the page for the particular riding, and look it up for themselves.
Do any of these work?
Bkissin (talk) 22:54, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I saw what you did, or at least are in the middle of doing, with the 2008 NDP candidates. I'll add the extra columns to the other candidate articles, but I'd love if you would add all the ridings to the NDP list, as well as clean it up a little bit, if possible. If not, I guess I could do it, but I'm attempting to compromise a little.

We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ray Joseph Cormier 3. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

In retrospect, I realize I may have been overbearing in wanting to see it improved. You will notice from the Article Talk, I withdrew from constantly appealing to other editors to take an interest, checking on it only from time to time. Naturally, seeing this 3rd Afd, with few defenders, I had no choice but to jump in. You may be interested in reading some of my self published articles on CNN´s iReports.

- As the creator of the subject BLP, I hope you might share in my disappointment that the editors calling for delete are totally ignoring the fundamental Wikipedia requirement of numerous independent, reliable newspaper references that determine Notability, and voting on emotion because I attempted to exhort Editors to improve it before another Afd tag was placed on it. I couldn´t improve it because of COI. Damned if I do and damned if I don´t!

Looking back on the time and chance that caused our separate, individual lives to intersect, as I showed myself to you and your co-volunteers at that time, is how I am. When you created the BLP, you had no idea how it would evolve.

[edit]Earl, thank you for registering a keep in the AfD discussion, and for creating this BLP. I expect it is very difficult for some people to countenance a modern day prophet of the God of the Bible still living.
In my view, not because I was the subject of it, the deletion is ignoring and throwing away the foundation on which Wikipedia´s credibility is built, WP:N. God knows, I learned a lot about that guiding principle in the article talk as I encountered resistance in every attempt to have other editors improve it. I think it was a hasty and wrong decision to delete it. The reasons I think so are here,

Adieu
[edit]Earl, I suppose every Editor and Administrator in Wikipedia would be surprised to find on surfing the net, their BLP was there for two years. My first human reaction was Wow! That´s cool! Then the mystery and the questions started, who could have created this? I had no clue whatsoever. I had seen pages from Wikipedia online before, but I never actually looked into Wikipedia itself in great detail. Now I had reason. Soon enough I learned the basics and eventually found you.
As it lay buried with 30 to 60 views a month, as I developed it, views were approaching 2000 a month, then it was noticed. A small cabal of the same editors soon hovered over the Article and talk page determined it should not be improved, but deleted. For all the AFGing, I immediately saw that group did not have it. The third time is the charm the saying goes. Naturally, I would have preferred it be improved based on the numerous news sources available than deleted.
Only you know the Spirit you saw in me for the brief time Life brought us together and moved you to create a BLP on your reflections of such brief encounters. Even though it was deleted by WP:IAP rather than WP:N, I thank you for creating it. God keep you.
As for me, I take this stoically. The Lord gave, The Lord has taken away. Blessed be the Name of The Lord!
Thinking upon it, I have been greatly enriched by my experience with Wikipedia as exasperating and frustrating as it was most times. My writing skills have improved in discussion and debate. I´ve seen more politics than WP:NPOV which was an eye opener. And most importantly, I have been awakened and strengthened for the battles ahead as I continue. For all of this I am grateful. - Final Thought on this experience. Let there be no doubt or mistake about it. The Word is gone out within and without Wikipedia. Peace DoDaCanaDa (talk) 14:50, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
