Welcome!

Thanks
Thanks for notifying me. Despite being heavily involved in re-editing the page, i was never notified and without your message would have never known about the deletion request. Now I have added my comments to the deletion discussion page. Hopefully with added dimension of his personal adoption story, the page can stay. werldwayd (talk) 20:39, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- Again thanks for the video footage. Alex Gilbert comes out as a very sympathetic young man. I am convinced of his notability myself, because of his cinematographic work and his personal story, but other Wikipedia colleague opinions may prevail and I do envisage as things are going that the article will be deleted. Deletion shouldn't discourage you or him. Keep a copy of the article in your files, add to it and you never know 2-3 years down the road, it might get a new chance if he is ever involved in a more majour way in cinematography. Make a search for any rewards he has won, or nominated to. That goes quite a long way in supporting notability. Continue adding media visibility through interviews, reports etc. Sometimes individual artists ignore this to their own detriment. Become more media-savvy in promoting visibility, making seminars, doing social work, promoting further discussion, organizing workshops. Do follow up materials. By the way, I suggest you add a comment yourself in discussion page soonest. You are allowed as one of the majour editors of the article a decent chance to defend its existence. Be brief in your comment trying your best not to feed further opposition to the article, but make clear points in explaining and possibly further reinforcement of his notability. werldwayd (talk) 18:20, 21 June 2014 (UTC)
- Dmitry, I don't think editors in English Wikipedia will be convinced despite all the wonderful new sources that you have quoted. I suggested for a long time that the way to go is to create an article in Russian as the interest in Russia will be much greater. But you never took on my advice and meanwhile years pass. Invest in a friend that knows Russian if you don't know the language or are uncomfortable in writing in it. Isn't this anyway a search for one's roots? His roots are Russian and he deserves an article there. Alex is a very sympathetic character from the interviews I saw and the footage in the documentaries and coverage. He is a fascinating fine young man who has done a lot of good and the more power to him. But Wikipedia works in a different way. As I am not knowledgeable in Russian, I did the same thing but in Arabic in which I am very good. See Arabic Wikipedia article. I think it will be safe in the Arabic domain with the sources I used. Do the same in Russian which has a wide readership as well. werldwayd (talk) 22:34, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
Hello werldwayd. I will go and try an article in Russian! Sorry! There is a lot of sources in English now though they are mostly interviews but from big outlets etc. The Russian Sources are from Independent sources which is good! I am going to get an Editor in Russian to have a look at the English version and see what could happen! Great article you linked! Thank You! Please if you can improve the article in anyway possible please go ahead and do that! --DmitryPopovRU (talk) 00:37, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
- Plus a suggestion. For a possible Russian page, I remember there were a lot of links to Alex Gilbert's other works in TV production etc. I distinctly remember about a programme filmed in South Korea. Hopefully you still keep details of the earlier versions of the draft article to incorporate those in his future page in Russian. His career in TV and elsewhere is equally important to establish additional notability. werldwayd (talk) 01:30, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
Thank You werldwayd. Yes those old sources from years back were from some blogs etc. Can't really use those! There is enough on the draft anyways that can be used for an article on the Russian Wikipedia I am sure! --DmitryPopovRU (talk) 01:33, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
- Spotted on the other wikipedia! Nice werldwayd ! --DmitryPopovRU (talk) 01:49, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
Deletion
Now that the article has been sadly deleted from Wikipedia a second time around after long discussion and the nay sayers, please do not dwell too much on this one outcome. Alex Gilbert is still a young artist and will have further opportunities down the line to gain further notability. Hope you have taken though a copy of the article on your files just in case in the future you will need to relaunch it with further successes of the artist down the line. Two suggestions though. The problem we basically faced with this particular article was the lack of widespread independent reports on his activities from reliable sources and bigger media outlets (newspapers, magazines, TV etc. It certainly helps if the artist has a public relations representative that can work more aggressively in arranging interviews and further coverage so that he is more visible in the media. These additional efforts if successful do help in establishing further notability as it shows interest from independent sources. He definitely needs to work on this and as you see one New Zealand Herald article didn't help much. A second note is that I see great possibility of a similar Alex Gilbert article in Russian Wikipedia here: http://ru.wikipedia.org I didn't notice if there was one already. Since his plight is also a very much a Russian-interest article and he is of Russian origin prior to adoption in NZ, you could work on preparing for a Russian version of same article and in case you do not know the Russian language, to be in contact with someone who does and launch a Russian language page with more or less same content. These things tend to have a ripple effect as other language Wikipedias also pick the material up. Most importantly don't be discouraged by the outcome and persevere in finding ways of coming back in the future say 3-4 years down the line with extra works he would have been involved in by then. He does have the talent and he will have more works hopefully and more awards. All the best. werldwayd (talk) 20:48, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message Dmitry. I tried my best to secure the article's continuation but other colleagues disagreed. Now Wikipedia is poorer because of their comments and raeders cannot access infos about him through Wikipedia... But you have done quite well in developing an article on your user page. I believe it is way to soon to reintroduce the article after its deletion. But work on it and add things and update as you go. As time goes on, he will have more works in films and television, and more materials will be available on him, so the article's time will come in the future. In any case, as I told you, it is important to work on a wider press coverage for him, to contribute positively creating more feature articles on him, reviews of his work, interviews etc and build up a wider range of references that can be introduced in a future article. You say he has worked in Korea and in Austria as well as Russia. What coverage is there in German, Korean or Russian. These are acceptable as well and can become quite handy giving him international coverage beyond New Zealand. All the best. werldwayd (talk) 12:15, 18 August 2014 (UTC)
- Please do not dwell on this further. He might achieve notability at a later date; he is extremely young. If he garners enough coverage from here onwards, please resubmit a draft at AfC after a prudent amount of time has passed. As for now, we'd be glad to have you contribute in other articles after you familiarise yourself with the way we do things. The encyclopaedia could certainly use more editors! Let me know if I could help you. Best, FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 01:29, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Alex Gilbert
Since this has been deleted, and its recreation deleted, and the content in the draft is similar to the deleted version, you are going to have to make an appeal at WP:DRV and point to your new draft. What you need in the draft is more writings about the person from independent sources. Note that the picture File:AlexGilbert ICANZ.jpg is still around too. It appears that you recreated Alex Gilbert via the Articles for Creation process despite it being deletion via Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alex Gilbert (2nd nomination). You have already been advised that the correct way to appeal this is at WP:DRV. If you attempt to recreate the article again without successfully following this process, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia.-gadfium 03:49, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi gadfium,
I have added this to a deletion review on Draft:Alex Gilbert. Not sure if it's formatted correctly though. Please look.

Alex Gilbert
Hi there Dmitry. I see that you have tried to publish the article in English Wikipedia regarding Alex Gilbert with the same objections raised this time around as well. It seems despite the added materials and the extra relevance of Alex with new works, still he is not deemed notable. I am suggesting now a different approach. Since the subject matter is truly relevant in Russia, the way to go perhaps is establishing a Russian Wikipedia page for now. Russian Wikipedia already has 3 mentions of Alex . See [1]. They are about 3 references with the search Алекс Гилберт. Either you or a friend who has more expertise in Wikipedia can establish a page in Russian. I wouldn't think there will be as much opposition there. Exactly the same materials you have prepared but in Russian. You can also insert the Latin-based name Alex Gilbert as well, so that in the Google searches for example, it also shows prominently. People can then use the translation devices to read the article from Russian to English. Regards werldwayd (talk) 01:43, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
Thank You werldwayd --DmitryPopovRU (talk) 08:38, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
I am happy for this development. Of course it still remains subject to comments from other editor colleagues. Some may even take it to AfD (articles for deletion) for a discussion. Meanwhile keep an eye on the article from time to time, try improving it and go on with the Russian language project as it will be there where the most interest and readership will come from. Again congratulations. This is a deserving article and greatly sourced. The individual concerned is notable as far as I am concerned. werldwayd (talk) 21:52, 23 May 2016 (UTC) Thank You! Please do feel free to improve the article over time! werldwayd --DmitryPopovRU (talk) 00:09, 24 May 2016 (UTC)

In response to your request for assistance relating to the Alex Gilbert draft article, I unfortunately have limited experience relating to topics relating to Russia or New Zealand, and would recommend contacting one of our fellow Wikipedians who does have experience in those topics for assistance.--TommyBoy (talk) 03:25, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Draft:Alex Gilbert and ownership of pages
Regarding your edit comment, False Submission by an IP Editor. I want to focus on this Draft myself and work on it., please be aware that all pages on wikipedia (including drafts) may be edited by anyone. That includes people who are not logged in, and thus show up in the edit history as an IP address. There is no such thing as a page belonging to a particular editor. Accordingly, I have restored the edit you deleted. -- RoySmith (talk) 12:25, 12 March 2016 (UTC) Thanks RoySmith. Not a problem! --DmitryPopovRU (talk) 18:44, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- The IP in question is not "some logged-out editor", but a person that has been disrupting the F1 WikiProject for months. The IP has a history of tendentiously resubmitting declined drafts without even remotely addressing its issues. Therefore, Dmitry's edit in this case was appropriate. Tvx1 15:40, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
