Hi
Please take a look at the refs for Martina Montelius, Athena Farrokhzad, Victor Hartman, Helena Quiding and Lilla Skuggan. Thanks!--BabbaQ (talk) 20:36, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hello. Normally I would oblige you but presently Reflinks is inoperable. Sorry,
Reflinks part Deux
Last time I posted here it was to bitch about Reflinks being 'down', then it was up again pretty soon. So I try to use it again, and find it's been 'blocked' by the WMF! :-o Ping me if you have anything to say about this. Sigh! 220 of Borg 08:52, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yes it is out of action again - much to my annoyance (and probably plenty of others who use it on a regular basis). I think, reading between the lines, that the problem is that Reflinks is 'owned' by User:Dispenser and WMF want total control of all tools, or at least want them to be 'free to use / open source' facilities. See here for further 'rationale'. Whatever the reason(s), it is something that clearly needs a swift resolve.
- My Oath it needs resolution! The state of the reference formatting of some pages is quite dreadful. I started out early in my editng 'career' spending a lot of time manually editing refs. Joyful day when I discovered Reflinks. Now, back to the editing 'Stone Age'! (pause to allow steam from ears to dissipate ;-/ )
- I think we'll need to 'kick' butt of editors who can't bother to add little details like source title, newspaper name, author, ISBNs, page number etc, etc to their sources. It's a lot easier if the creator of a page, who presumably already has, or can quickly re-access that info, provides that data at the start. Without a tool like Reflinks, which still needed a lot of user 'clean-up', page creators being lazy about source data is something I think can't be tolerated. 220 of Borg 16:52, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
- I feel that your proposed approach is somewhat contrary to a civil response, and is more likely to create hostility rather than a positive reaction. Apart from that, English people tend to refer to kicking arses rather than butts, the latter of which refers to a cigarette stub. Whilst I fully share your frustration regarding other editor's actions, as in life there are those who abide by the rule(s) and those who do not. The concealed threat of kicking butts, arses, whatever, is not the answer. I am unhappy about the current demise of Reflinks, and hope it will not be permanent. Unless reinstatement, or a viable replacement can be found, then large scale manual reference formatting is beyond the capabilities of anyone.
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 23:26, 31 August 2014 time/date added. 220 of Borg
- 'Kick' was being used in a metaphorical sense, naturally. ;-P I meant more to textually advise them of the advantages of full references, and ask for them to provide, nicely, but repeatedly! But as you say, its likely those sort of editors may take even good, friendly advice the 'wrong way'.
- The ability to literally 'cyber kick' someone in the nether regions remotely is something most internet users, including I, lack. (Something for Apple to look at perhaps, iBoot?)
I did come across an Aussie editor in the sports arena (Rugby?) who IIRC supplied refs but only bare URLs. Wouldn't even try Reflinks when it was linked to and explained to them. As for using 'butt', I must have been partly Americanised by exposure to Wikipedia articles in US English!--220 of Borg 02:03, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
In case you are unaware, a revised and vaguely usable version of 'Reflinks' is now available here. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:03, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
joeseph weaver
Hi im curious to know if i am related to jossph weaver.can you give information on his parents and siblings. Thank you. I can be reached at daelwe@aol.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.87.110.95 (talk) 00:04, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- Do you mean this person - Joe Weaver ? I am afraid I can supply no details other than those shown in his article.
Hi 2
Not to brag but the article Murder of Joanna Yeates that I created will appear on the TFA section on the main page on 18 September. :)--BabbaQ (talk) 22:19, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- Wow, well done indeed ! I have never seen any article that I have edited more than a couple of times, ever reach such dizzy heights. In the circumstances a little mild bragging is both allowable, and fully understandable. I will have to remember to keep my eyes open on the 18th !
- I remembered to look, and there it is. Bravo! - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:06, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
Precious
added reference and minor clean-up
Thank you, elephant, for quality articles on musicians such as Reneé Austin, for for tirelessly improving the project with "Added reference and minor clean-up" and Added info box and references, for polite warnings and missing, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!
- Thank you - very kind. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 10:18, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Need you help on something
Dear Derek R Bullamore,
Thank for reading my message. You recently made an edit to the Fresh Kid Ice Page. Which was appreciated since I created this page and your edit was constructive. A user put this page for deletion and I have week to gather enough votes to keep it. I am writing you to vote to keep since you made a nice edit, and have done nice edits on other pages I think you wouldn't have done an edit to a page you find bogus. Please vote to keep the Fresh Kid Ice page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Fresh_Kid_Ice_(2nd_nomination)
Kind Regards
Filmman3000 (talk) 00:41, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, but having looked at the validity of the article rather than, as before, simply improving the reference formatting, then I find little evidence for its retention. However, I am not a deletionist, and therefore will not post these thoughts at the deletion discussion page. Regards,
Suzette Charles
Hi Derek. Could you check to see if the British record label and chart info is correct on the Suzette Charles article? There was quite a bit of vandalism on her page and I tried to fix as much as I could. Thanks. Caden cool 18:31, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, Caden. The information in the article is mainly correct, as per British Hit Singles & Albums. "Free To Love Again" was released in the UK on RCA Records, which I believe in 1993 was part of BMG. OK ?
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:16, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
- Okay thanks :) Caden cool 21:31, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
Your edits
You do a great deal of very good work, cleaning up articles and general maintenance. But please be careful when ascribing nationalities to BLP subjects where that nationality is not clear, e.g. Andy Silvester might be English, but then he might not be. Let's not guess. Keff Ratcliffe is as likely to be Welsh as English [1], so I'm just wondering why you decided he was English. If in doubt, "British" is the solution. Also note that nationalities are not normally wikilinked. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 23:43, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- In both instances the category listings showed English - so I am simply following what others have ascribed there as nationalities. It may be right or wrong, but it is at least consistent throughout the article. Do not get me started on Scottish being Scottish, etc., but the English are always British !
- Probably best not to do that then, as categories are plainly not a reliable source. No, I agree with you about the whole "Scottish being Scottish and the English being British" thing, and I've changed Ratcliffe to British. But some people labour under the impression that all British people are English and that they're interchangeable terms. I'd rather be inconsistent than just take random stabs at nationality, and the odds are very high that "British" is accurate, whereas "English", "Welsh" etc may be completely wrong. Bretonbanquet (talk) 00:01, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
The usual arguments over birth year. Any thoughts? Ghmyrtle (talk) 11:30, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I think the way that you have represented it in the article is the best solution. The infobox needs both dates citing too - not too sure what to do about the 'categories' though ! I am fairly certain the earlier date is correct - but it is odd that so many 'reliable sources' have stated 1950 (or at least, age 64 at her death). Presumably her death certificate, once publically available, will show the correct details.
- Put it about a bit, did old Lynsey, if you catch my drift. No, honestly.
- Put the false birth details about a bit, I assume you mean (?). I presume that the press used old bios where she gave the wrong year, and didn't check. Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:37, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
If the Spurs article is of interest
…have a look at today's edits, particularly to the history section. Corrected defeat of French chivalry (!) to cavalry, restructured, and added nice 15th century Italian knight's spur image. See what you think. Not my thing, but stopped to glean some research information. 71.239.87.100 (talk) 16:19, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
- Not really my area of interest at all to be honest with you, and my sole contribution was the improving of references. However, it looks better than it did - of course, what the article really needs almost throughout is more, and better, referencing. Best wishes,
Bobby J Watson Rufus
Mr. Bullamore,
I noticed your concentration is on music...and with that stated...I would like to ask - there is a gentleman named Todd Felderstein, who is attempting to publish an article on Bobby Watson, which has been rejected twice.
I am attempting to talk him through what I feel is helpful information so as to get this wiki article done. If...my suggestions do not bring it to fruition, would you be kind enough to consider doing an article on this artist (his fellow band members have articles written on them - some of them) and Watson, seems to have done things outside of "just being Rufus" base player.
I contacted you, because I saw your addition to the Rufus article regarding the work Watson has done with Angela and Janet Jackson...it made me feel you would be the perfect person to get some assistance from.
Thank you for your time,
Respectfully... MJ aka
poekneegurl99.167.80.8 (talk) 20:51, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, MJ. I am normally more than happy to help fellow editors. Can I ask one or two questions. Why is Todd Felderstein, rather than you, trying to get a new article on Wikipedia for this bass player and record producer ? I presume you are sort of working together, but you are not too clear. Secondly, why have the previous articles been 'rejected' ? Thirdly, have either of you looked at the notability guidelines ? Also, one factor that is often critical in promoting a proposed article towards Wikipedia acceptance is the question of verifiability, and the insistence of supplying reliable sources.
- Sorry if I am teaching grandmother to suck eggs, but the Wikipedia guidance notes can often greatly help those who are relatively new to the Wikipedia experience. At the present time, I would rather coach someone else through the due processes, rather than tackle the subject matter myself. Either way, feel free to come back to me on this topic.
George Pajon Entry
Hello Derek R Bullamore! Thanks for your contribution on the George Pajon wiki entry. Someone by the handle LuckyLouie desires to have that page deleted. Could you add your opinion please? --HafizHanif (talk) 20:13, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, I am somewhat busy elsewhere at present, but if you can take a bit of friendly advice, then can I suggest that you define how Pajon qualifies, against the criteria set out under WP:Band and/or WP:COMPOSER, on the 'Articles for deletion' talk page. I feel this would strengthen your stance, and give something very specific for his 'notability' to be assessed against. It might also be useful if you could provide independent reliable sources, relating to his TV and film music credits (ideally something better, and more reliable, than IMDb). I wish you well - I am sure you already have a strong case.
Another one?
Over to you? Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:45, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
- I had a fairly brief look at him when his death was announced (never heard of him before that), and concluded that Washington's overall 'presence' was fragile at best. That obituary contains more info about Washington than I unearthed, but to be honest with you I still feel more than nervous about his notability. I think I will pass.
- By the way, did you get a chance to look at this ?
- Looks OK to me. I'm mostly tied up off-wiki with funerals, solicitors, etc., at the moment, so apologies for not replying. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:34, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Do not remove reference info
When tagging a dead link as such, it is important to keep the information so it can be found wherever it has moved. --NE2 23:00, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
I don't understand
I don't understand this edit. The reference is a raw dead link - there is nothing there. There's no clue if and where it moved to. Why would you remove the unreferenced tag? The Dissident Aggressor 19:46, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- Unless I am missing something, I marked the dead link as a 'dead link', and thus included the {BLP unreferenced} tag. Is that not correct ? - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 20:09, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- Uh. yeah. Did I mention I didn't understand. :) Thanks for cluing me in. The Dissident Aggressor 21:50, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Article re Ranveer Brar
Hello Derek R Bullamore...re my article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranveer_Brar , which I understand had some neutrality issues w.r.t its tone; I have made quite a few changes in the wording and tone today, as best I could. Request if this could be re-reviewed. Coolkrc (talk) 08:57, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Coolkrc. You have done a good job. I have made some further revisions to the wording of the Ranveer Brar article, resulting in the removal of the {POV} tag. The article would benefit further by incorporating some of the existing external links into proper in-line citations. Regards,
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 10:48, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- Derek R Bullamore Thanks a ton for looking at this...The External links are actually additional reads...so not sure where to add them into the article...cant they be left as is..like the bibliography section at the end of books...Coolkrc (talk) 12:01, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- Mmmm... possibly. It is worth having a look at the editing guidelines at Wikipedia:External links, in particular WP:ELNO.

- Yes, much better. Well done. I have removed the tag. It is worth remembering the lessons you have learned here, for any future work you may be considering. Happy editing.

Greg Phillinganes
Hey there—I'm working on Greg Phillinganes right now. You tagged it back in March as needing sources. It's slow-going but they will be filled in. Would you mind keeping half an eye on it and removing the banner when you feel there are sufficient sources? --Laser brain (talk) 03:22, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- I have placed the article on my 'watchlist' and will await developments. Best wishes,
- Well done on your work so far, Laser brain. As an aside, I noticed that the article on Phillinganes' album, Pulse, is not exactly bursting with citations. However, I have polished up those that are present. Regards,
- Thank you very much for your assistance. The hunt for sources continues—I have started to find articles from older issues of Keyboard magazine through the library. You should see significant improvement in the days to come. If I find any about Pulse specifically, I will copy them over to that article as well. --Laser brain (talk) 17:18, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
By the way, I'm tickled to see Bob Corritore as an article. I know Bob. I considered writing an article a few years ago but didn't think I had enough distance from the subject. --Laser brain (talk) 16:29, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hopefully I did him justice ! - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 17:16, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- You did very well. I learned a thing or two. Most people who know him today know him through the Rhythm Room. His pompadour is a regular fixture. --Laser brain (talk) 18:54, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- What !.... this type or this ? In England you can get arrested for getting your 'pompadour' out in public. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 19:31, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- Indeed, he seems to be single-handedly keeping the style alive. Luckily, Murray's Pomade is still readily available in the states! --Laser brain (talk) 20:46, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
Vernon O. Johnson —thank you for editing help
Derek, thank you for taking time to help edit the Vernon O. Johnson history. I think I have addressed most of the citation issues, except two:
- 1. cadet school: —I was attempting to establish the driving forces that turns a bomber pilot into a peace advocate. He spoke often of the secret meeting to ask him to become a spy. The letters detailing the meeting were not found until January 2013, decades after his death. Because the meeting was secret, there are no notes in his military files. I did request files from the FBI and CIA, and turned up nothing. Does that invalidate the paragraph?
- 2. 'Post-trip 1962–1987’ —No news clippings were saved from when the “Utopian Community” petered out. Does that mean that I can't say that it fell apart? Somehow it needs closure.
Thanks for giving your time to this and to your advice. JendaAJ (talk) 17:27, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hello JendaAJ and thanks for your comments. I think the notes posted by another editor on the article's talk page put the current situation quite well. Basically you do need to supply a source for any assertion, otherwise it fails verifiability. The point I JethroBT makes about attempting to find some more on-line sources is also very valid. You have made a decent article, but certain issues do need addressing before some, perhaps less than kind editor, starts editing them out as 'unsourced'. See citing sources for more guidance. Good luck,
- Derek, I am not sure what your recent edit meant. I have addressed all the comments posed by editors, and have abundant references cited. How do I get the notes at the top (re: close connection + citations) removed? Not that comparing apples and oranges is valid, I do wonder at the many Wikipedia entries that have little historic/socio-political impact (ex. D.J.s) and lack citations. I admit the times are different. Thanks for revisiting. JendaAJ (talk) 16:06, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hello again. My recent edit of the article was more a question of 'housekeeping', rather than anything notable. Whilst I fully appreciate the effort you have made thus far on the article, it is fair to say that there are some matters that still need addressing. Referring to the comments made on the article's talk page by User:I JethroBT, there is still no citation used to promote the 'Early life' nor 'Cadet and flight school' sections. In addition, where you have cited a published work, then details such as the ISBN reference needs including. I JethroBT's comments relating to trying to locate more online sources are still pertinent, as presently these are very few in number. Also, there are several mentions of Santa Barbara News Press, but no note of any possible online connection to these. If you have a look at WP:CT, it supplies valuable guidance on providing better / fuller references. The tags at the top of the article's page are still relevant at the present time. It is pointless making claims about other sub-standard articles, of which I agree there are many, but rather concentrate on the one in hand. Happy editing,
Reflinks errors
Hi Derek! When you're using Reflinks, could you please look out for references created with incorrect titles (such as "No cookies" in this edit), and manually fix them before saving? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:50, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
- I will try to adhere in the future. I do work on hundreds of cases each week, so some 'errors' are bound to creep in. Also, what if an US article is simply stating that they have sold all their biscuits !?!
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:40, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
- I think it's unlikely that you'll find a reliable source with that title, but anything's possible. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:52, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
- I would also like to suggest that edits like this are not especially helpful. Please take a bit more care to provide meaningful titles if Reflinks doesn't automatically do it. — This, that and the other (talk) 06:34, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- I would like to suggest that editors who spend time haranguing me over said edits, might be better employed trying to reduce the amount of bare URLs. I have effected tens of thousands of these over the past two or three years, without which, given the relative lack of similar action from others, would have left a huge number of articles with bare links. I have been given at least twelve barnstars relating to this activity, and scores of 'thanks'. Cast the first stone if you must. I must be doing most things correctly - that is all I aim to achieve.
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:08, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry that you are interpreting my post as "haranguing" instead of a friendly note. I would much rather continue my use of both Reflinks tools to fix articles (and report bugs to the tools' authors) than to try to find where editors did not use them properly. Now I'm off to find where people incorrectly added links to Cast the first stone (which redirects to an album by Ensign (band)). Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 21:22, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:08, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- Absolutely not haranguing, rather thanking you profusely for fixing the bare refs in the Church of our Lady of the Assumption and St Gregory, Westminster. I've not been able to do that properly since Reflinks stopped working. What marvellous tool do you use? Thanks again. KJP1 (talk) 20:07, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
- No problem. The tool is this one - https://tools.wmflabs.org/fengtools/reflinks/index.php - basically, a newer version of 'Reflinks' - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 20:10, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
- @KJP1: Note that the original Reflinks is working again - see User:Dispenser/Reflinks for the new URLs. GoingBatty (talk) 03:04, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Request for your opinion
Good morning Derek R Bullamore! I noticed you've edited the topic Jimmy Edgar somewhat recently, and was hoping to collect viewpoints on an aesthetic issue. If you had a minute to contribute to the discussion/vote on the infobox photo, that would be very helpful. Earflaps (talk) 11:07, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
- I really do not have a preference over which photograph should be used. However, despite my 'somewhat recently' prior edit actually being in March 2013, I have shown willing and improved the article's referencing. Regards,

- You're welcome. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:50, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
- I did the same with refs on a few other pages like Somalis in the United Kingdom. Is there a fast method to fix them or do I have to hand type the titles? Sorry for all the questions! BrumEduResearch (talk)
- I use either [2] or [3]. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, but both are far quicker than doing the job completely manually. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:58, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks kind sir. I will check those out. Bon weekend! BrumEduResearch (talk) 14:59, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
I just discovered the tool in the edit box that creates proper references. Very helpful! BrumEduResearch (talk) 11:57, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, although I have never really used that resource much. Whatever works for you though. Best wishes,
Citations in history articles: Please include author, title and year
Citations in history articles require at the minimum the author, the title, & the year. That is taught every college freshman class and is in all the standard guidebooks. With that information, the student or the librarian can actually find a book. More than that, It is important for the reader to know who said what -- names, titles, and dates are intrinsically important. Furthermore, Wikipedia recommends against bare URLs Wikipedia:Bare URLs because of Link rot. If URL is changed five years from now, it will be a mystery to readers unless they know how to go through year after year of edit history to find the original source With author, title and year. Rjensen (talk) 18:19, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, thank you for the advice. Having been an editor on Wikipedia for over nine years, and with 120,000 edits to my name, it is just what I need. Actually, I was in the middle of trying to improve the whole referencing aspect of the Commemoration of the American Civil War article, when I lost internet connection. You might care to note that said article has had the 'link rot tag' on it since March 2014. However, I will leave it to you to improve the current dire situation, since you appear to be such an expert.
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 18:40, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
- Well, if you screw up the major articles so badly, you are going to get a reaction. I cannot imagine why anyone would systematically erase the names of authors and the titles of books and articles. Rjensen (talk) 19:28, 27 February 2015 (UTC)
Would you know the forename of 'G Smith'?
Would you know the forename of 'G Smith', the 1985 Yorkshire Cup winning stand-off for Hull Kingston Rovers. Best regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 10:18, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, it is this chap - good player - I remember him quite well. Cheers,
- Actually, now I come to really think about it, I was present at that final. Thirty years ago ! Memories, memories. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 17:14, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Mr. Derek, that was a very good Hull KR team, and that was a good Castleford team, and they won the Challenge Cup at the end of that season (we won't mention against whom). As an aside, I used to play with the Castleford's Challenge Cup winning fullback Gary Lord… whoo-get-me. Best regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 08:33, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
- Boom Boom ! Thanks for reminding me; I was at Wembley for that game as well. If this idiot had kicked a conversion in the final minute, then the Robins would have won. To complete the circle, Gordon was our back substitute that day. Oh yeah and I went to school with Paul Rose. He was a year older than me (probably still is, come to that), and we both played as goalkeeper in our respective junior school soccer teams. A bloody long, long, time ago. Cheers,
- Whoo-get-you… The birth of a Paul C. Rose was registered during January→March 1953 in Hull district, would you think this is Paul Rose? Best regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 16:34, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
- Despite the common nature of both his fore and surname, that date does tie in perfectly with my recollections of his age. Back in the day, he lived approximately 600 yards away from my childhood home on Tedworth Road in East Hull - hence our attendance at the same infant and junior schools. I also knew Phil Lowe quite well in the 1980s - enough name dropping for now.

- No problem. My best advice is that you should click on the blue links on both of those tags at the top of the article. This will lead you to editing guidelines, pertaining to 'original research' and 'reliable listed sources'. The information there may help you decide whether further action is needed on the article. If you feel that it is not, then I suggest you contact User:Flat Out, who originally posted the tags and ask his/her's further opinion on the matter. His/her viewpoint may be different now, given the edits that have taken place after the tags were posted. I hope this helps you. Regards,
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 16:38, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks (User:Derek R Bullamore, my issue is that the sources weren't supporting the content but I have reviewed again and removed the tags. Flat Out let's discuss it
- You're welcome. A good outcome then for all three editors. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 21:22, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
List of Hull Kingston Rovers players
Derek, I wondered whether you might be able to help me to create a List of Hull Kingston Rovers players article? I'm envisaging something like, e.g. List of Castleford Tigers players article. A mere 5-years ago, I believe you have mentioned you had a book… [1]

One thing I did for the List of Great Britain national rugby league team players was… scan the list from a book, pass that through Optical character recognition software, format that data in Excel, and then create the Wikipedia article from it, giving the original source as a reference. One thing I would like to do in the list is to identify those players who; have won Championship/Challenge Cup/County League/County Cup, have been County/Country/Lions representatives, are the club record holders, were captains, etc. by means of some coloured key system. Best Regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 12:09, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
- I'm happy to help. Obviously your technical skills are far superior to mine ! I still have the booklet mentioned above, which was partly utilised to help initially create the 'Notable players section' in the Hull Kingston Rovers article. What are you suggesting ? Do I need to send you the booklet in the post ?? Cheers,
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:10, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
- I guess you could either post the booklet, or scan the relevant pages and save in JPG (or perhaps PDF) format, whichever you prefer. Best regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 14:42, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
- As you will discover when it arrives, scanning is not really a viable option. If you would be kind enough to send me your postal address via e-mail (derekrbullamore@yahoo.co.uk), then I'll send you the booklet via the glories of Royal Mail. As the statistics section only contains initials rather than first names, the rest of the book might help you to fill in any gaps. Remember the time span expires in 1983, so anyone still playing at that time will have incomplete details. My era of thorough experience/knowledge is early 1960s to early 1990s, but I can probably dig further if we end up struggling over some player or another. I will want my 'ickle book' returning in due course, but there is no rush. Is that OK ?
- I've emailed my address to you, and I'll get your 'ickle book' back to you as soon as possible. Best Regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 09:48, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Splendid. I'll post the thing post haste, or somewhat earlier. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 12:16, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- The book arrived last week, we could be see the fruits of my labours shortly. Best regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 12:53, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
- The fruits of my labours can be seen here… List of Hull Kingston Rovers players. Would it be okay to hold onto your book for a little while longer, to see if I can find the forenames of some players? Best Regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 17:13, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
- Wow - that's impressive considering how much you have achieved in that timespan. No problem you holding onto the ickle book for a while longer. In the meantime, from the top of my head, some of the full names you are missing are : Mike Blackmore, Maurice Daddy, Paul Daley, Dave Elliott, Dave Heslop, John Hickson, Terry Hudson, Steve Leighton, Ian Madley, Ian Markham, Rowley Moat, Brian Pinkney, Terry Ramshaw, Max Rooms, Terry Hudson, Peter Small, Mike Stephenson, Cyril Sykes, Les Tonks, Derek Windmill and Brian Wrigglesworth. More names may come back to me in due course. Oh, and you might find a few more playing era years from the main Hull Kingston Rovers article. Well done so far though, Derek - a great effort ! Cheers,
- PS. Gordon Young (1965-1975), G.H. "Tich" West, Cliff Wallis, Ray Norrie and Ray Speckman to add to the names above. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 20:18, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
- I've added the forenames of the players above, and some players from the pre-1897 Rugby Football Union days, though that has created some potential duplicates of early Northern Union players, e.g. Charlie Coyne/C. Coyne, G. Fletcher/G. Fletcher, Tom Foster/T. Foster, J. Geenty/J. Geenty. ?. Jackson and a number of Jacksons, R. W. 'Ginger' Jackson/R. W. Jackson, Albert Kemp/A. Kemp, J. Noble/J. Noble, J. Rhodes/J. Rhodes, T. Ripton/T. Ripton, J. Sparvieri/J. Sparvieri, H. Tullock/H. Tullock, and ?. Young/A. Young. Also, would you know, is Peter Small… Peter Small, and is Mike Stephenson… Mike Stephenson?
I can't help you with the Northern Union players at all. Peter Small is Peter Small, but it's definitely not that Mike Stephenson. Our Stephenson was a small wiry winger, cum half back, who played in the late 1960s and early 1970s. I think he may have had a spell with Hull F.C. too. Pretty sure he appeared in the 1971 Yorkshire Cup final - on the right wing, according to the Wiki article on that competition. Cheers,
Derek R Bullamore (talk) 15:41, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- As you say, Mike Stephenson played Right-Wing in the 1971 Yorkshire Cup, Scrum-Half in the 1974 Yorkshire Cup, and appears to have played for Hull F.C. twixt 1975…1979. Would you know the forenames of; S. Wiley (Prop), Brown (Loose-Forward), & Cooper (Sub) from the 1971 Yorkshire Cup final, and Brown (Loose-Forward (same chap as 1971 Yorkshire Cup final?)), & Madley (Sub) from the 1974 Yorkshire Cup final? Also, if you have any idea as to which players took part in the 1966 Yorkshire Cup final, and/or 1967 Yorkshire Cup final, I'd be most grateful. Best regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 17:56, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, that's the right Mike Stephenson. It is Steve Wiley, Colin Cooper (although not one of these) and Ian Madley. I can not presently recall Brown's first name though - it might come to me at 3am next morning ! The cup final line-ups are a bigger problem to me - even though I actually attended the 1967 game ! What I might be able to do is visit the splendid History Centre in Hull and do a bit of research. Time is tight for me right now, with cricket watching commitments over the next few weeks and back to back fixtures. If you can wait until later in the year, then I'll see what I can unearth. In the meantime, this gives a few names from the 1967 Final. Carl Dooler played for Featherstone in the 1966 Final and unfairly got sent off !? He later played for Hull KR, although he was injury prone by then.
Thanks
…for filling in the URL only sources at Automobile Model article. The citations are only to examples, and are not truly references, but still, it makes the article a small step closer to a big changes it needs to a GA standard. Cheers. Leprof 7272 (talk) 00:42, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Casey Anderson / Henderson
Hi Derek, ... with a "Minor clear-up" you also changed Anderson's "real" family name from "Anderson" to "Henderson" --- Was that intentionally or only a typo? If yes, what was your source for doing so? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Casey_Anderson&diff=next&oldid=315990281 StefanWirz (talk) 00:24, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Gosh, you are asking me about an edit made some four and a half years ago ! Actually, my 'crime' seems to be only a reformatting of the text, rather than a change in the family name (which appears to be present prior to my edit) - I think. The 'altered' surname seems to have been of your own making. Does this help ??
- ... didn't accuse you of any "crime", I just asked if the name change, which was - if unconsciously - definitvely done by *you*, not by me (see https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Casey_Anderson&diff=next&oldid=315990281), had any serious knowledge background (not much is known about the man!) or just a typo (anybody, all too often me, can be "guilty" of)! No offence intended! :-)
- StefanWirz (talk) 07:33, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Not guilty, m'lud. The editing differential you cited above, shows my change of "(born in Chicago; real name Charles H. Anderson" to "(born Charles H. Henderson, Chicago)". The initial mention of the surname Henderson, occurs in your creation of the article here. As Shaggy once said - "It Wasn't Me". Best wishes,
- One last attempt, then I'll give up (got better things to do): When I first created that article 14 June 2007, there isn't any "Henderson" to be seen, I wrote "Casey Anderson (born Charles H. Anderson)" - once again, no "Henderson" to be seen, please look at the link you yourself provided in your last comment! All through the following years (i.e. until the revision as of 20:44, 24 September 2009 by one WikHead) the name still has been "Anderson". The "Henderson" name first appeared when you - most likely unintentionally - introduced that name via your Revision as of 22:20, 30 July 2010 (see my screenshot at http://www.wirz.de/music/anderson/wiki_bullamore.jpg). I usually don't act as a wisenheimer, but that lack of understanding on your side (almost) drives me nuts ;-) StefanWirz (talk) 17:50, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Derek... sorry, but you're wrong, and Stefan's right. The critical diff is this one. Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:22, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot Ghmyrtle! I also like very much what you've made out of "my" little stub! StefanWirz (talk) 12:27, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you - it was enjoyable discovering him. Let me know if you are aware of any other blues-related stubs that need similar expansion. Regards, Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:47, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot Ghmyrtle! I also like very much what you've made out of "my" little stub! StefanWirz (talk) 12:27, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- A million apologies - my mistake(s) entirely. In mitigation, I have suffered with annoying and intermittent broadband connection in recent times, with my own computer being somewhat haphazard in its own operational reliability. In retrospect I tried to compensate for this by rushing things, which is never the best policy. I can only presume that my initial 'surname alteration' was simply a typo on my part. Very sorry all round. Thanks to Ghmyrtle for rescuing the situation, although I will wear sackcloth and ashes for a week. With respect,
- Ah yes... that old "poor broadband connection" excuse.... I know it well. :-) Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:34, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
At least my slight problem has not advanced far enough that, when my computer was playing up, I did not remember what to do, nor the exact word to use - #*@@?#&s ! - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 15:08, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- Very glad the "case" finally could be settled - sometimes it takes a "moderator" ...
- All the best to both of you! StefanWirz (talk) 08:30, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
your edit on Competitive Enterprise Institute
please reinsert all the authors, titles and date s( n.d.) you erased in your edit.--Wuerzele (talk) 05:26, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
- I do not do edits by request. Neither can I understand how inserting (n.d.) will enhance the article. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:23, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- authors, titles and dates are necessary identifiers of references. you erased them . This is counterproductive.
- you are a senior editor? What am I missing here? -ping me if you respond please.--Wuerzele (talk) 04:11, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
The Capris
Almost 5 (!) years ago, you 'tagged' The Capris for a bunch of problems. I just eliminated about 90% of the article, and rewrote the rest. Have a look please, and remove the notifications if you like. Regards Tapered (talk) 06:05, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
- I have made some more edits, primarily to the referencing, and removed most of the tags accordingly. Regards,
- When you get back: What do you consider still undocumented, the Discography? Tapered (talk) 01:45, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Primarily yes, although there is also an inconsistent, and shortage of references, citing various chart placings of tracks. However, I feel it is now around 90% good.
War of Dagestan
Hello Derek R Bullamore. I highly recommend you DO NOT ever "improve referencing" in such a way as you did it in the article War of Dagestan. You had erased a lot of the important data (authors' names, articles' names, publishers' names, dates, volume numbers, pages), and it took a plenty of time to clean this mess up. Please, appreciate your and others' time. Cheers! Russian Rocky (talk) 04:15, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Breaker, breaker!
"Announcement : Derek R Bullamore is taking a short wikibreak and will be back on Wikipedia soon." Hurray! This is a great opportunity to flood Wikipedia with the tag for "link rot!" :-) Seriously, congratulations for your untiring work on the issue. Truly impressing. Take care. -The Gnome (talk) 16:16, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
misleading edit summary
Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page Algae eater has an edit summary that appears to be inaccurate or inappropriate. Please use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did, and feel free to use the sandbox for any tests you may want to do. Appreciate good faith edits, but if you do anything else but 'fill in refs using reflinks' like copy edit or delete stuff as in this case, you cant use that edit summary.
MoS capitalisation as per MOS:ALLCAPS.
I have corrected your mistaken use of all capitals on the Bendigo article as per the Manual of Style at MOS:ALLCAPS. If you have also been doing all this on other articles then it would be good thing if you went back to them and corrected yourself. Thank you. Afterwriting (talk) 03:17, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- Yes - the fact that I happened to correct around 20 bare URLs in the same process seems to be not worth mentioning. The capitalisation was generated by Reflinks, so you may care to give the source of that bot a kick in the shins too. By the way, I have added capitals on every one of my 125,000 edits in the past nine years - what fun I have. It would be a good thing if you stuffed yourself.
ANI report
There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Afterwriting (talk) 12:53, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Woah, let's just hang on a second before we rush full pelt into the Slough of Despond. I need to thank Derek actually for his dedication to making sure references can be verified in case of the link going dead for years and years and years, so - thanks Derek! Now, that said, I believe Afterwriting is on point in saying that news sources should ideally be put into sentence or title case, as SHOUTING on the internet is frowned on, but Derek is also correct in that the caps is the default output from the Reflink tool, and he's not obliged to fix anything more in the article than he wants to. All said and done, both of you have made Bendigo a little bit better. I'll go and close the thread and remind everyone that text-based communication is fraught with perils like these. Be cool, everyone. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:14, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for the thank you - much appreciated. Also for the sensible, level headed conclusion to the matter. "Life is very short, and there's no time, for fussing and fighting, my friend".

Reflinks cleanup of Women and video games
This edit appears to have removed some details of some refs (the author/title of URLs), and added some that are not correct (Computer Gaming World is a monthly publication, does not have a day). I don't know how Refworks works to know whether this is a bug in the underlying software that slipped into your edit, or what else might have gone wrong there. DMacks (talk) 16:35, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not too sure myself. I simply use the bot in good faith and assume, where and if necessary, that the alterations are correct. An expert on the subject matter of both the workings of Reflinks, and/or the article in question, may be better versed than me on this one. I notice that there are several subsequent edits on that article. Could these have muddied the water ??
- Similar problem here. Please review the bot more closely. --Ronz (talk) 19:52, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- Reflinks really shouldn't be doing this. Maybe it could be changed? If not, at least a warning to editors is needed. --Ronz (talk) 00:46, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Derek. Could you please check in your book of gold singles to see if The Dixie Cups went gold for the song "People Say" from 1964? If it did go gold could you add that info on the groups article? Caden cool 13:32, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Your bot is broken
..Please stop using whatever you're using. [4][5] Others have said the same thing further up your page. It's clearly broken and should not be used. Contact the bot developer and explain the situation but your edits are doing more harm than good. -- GreenC 21:00, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
- Maybe you're clearing old info before adding new info? Sorry if that's the case - maybe leave a comment it's a 2-step improvement. --GreenC 21:05, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, maybe I am. Probably best to check, before you engage the reverse button. The article seems to be in the same state as it was before my editing, ie. it has bare URLs. I'll leave you to improve that situation, whilst I plough on with a 'broken bot'. Others, "further up my talk page", have possibly made the same error of judgement. What the heck - 125,000+ edits and I'm still carrying on.
- Improving edit summary: "improving references (part 1 of 2-part edit)". -- GreenC 23:12, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
