Hello

[edit]

I have continued the discussion at the Invasion of Tibet (1950–1951) page. I don't know if you will wait for another person to revert before responding. Benjwong (talk) 21:07, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anjouan

[edit]

I think we should move User:TheFEARgod/2008 invasion of Anjouan to 2008 invasion of Anjouan now and merge the content of Anjouan#African_Union_Invasion_of_Anjouan, before the section of that article grows too large... But I won't do it if you don't want to, after all, it's in your userspace and mostly your work. —Nightstallion 13:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No! :) The invasion hasn't yet began --TheFEARgod (Ч) 13:45, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's still a chance Bacar might surrender (as it usually happens) and there's no invasion. In that case, we could create an article 2007-2008 Anjouan crisis about the standoff and political crisis.--TheFEARgod (Ч) 13:48, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mh, actually, we probably SHOULD make the article 2007–2008 Anjouan crisis regardless of whether there's an invasion or not... What do you say? —Nightstallion 17:29, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
my vision is that the crisis WITHOUT the invasion is not notable enough to have its own article. Thus, I was thinking of a merger with Anjouan or History of Comoros. Or not?--TheFEARgod (Ч) 12:02, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's most certainly notable enough for an article whether there's an invasion or not; we've had articles on far less massive crises before... —Nightstallion 15:42, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
your plan is to have two articles?--TheFEARgod (Ч) 13:05, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd prefer to have the article on the invasion expanded, but I could also live with two articles. What do you think? —Nightstallion 20:28, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
then let's expand the article :) --TheFEARgod (Ч) 23:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What a silly operation name. Like "Iraqi Freedom" --TheFEARgod (Ч) 13:21, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

True enough. "Liberation of Anjouan" would have been as positive and not so silly and seedy. —Nightstallion 14:13, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking of something with no connotations like "Morning Tides" or something lyrical like that. :) --TheFEARgod (Ч) 20:27, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That works, too. ;)Nightstallion 20:50, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Basra

[edit]

Mass deleteing articles

[edit]

I notice that you have been busy tagging a lot of articles for speedy delete. After looking a little closer it seems that you are deleting all of the articles that user langloisrg created, for what appears to be revenge. Although I agree with you that some of the minor operations probably are not needed I do not agree in deleting the Operation templates.--Kumioko (talk) 18:10, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Although I agree with you that some of them are unnecessary and that they are poorly written, being poorly written is not justification for deleting them from wikipedia. There are plenty of articles that need work.--Kumioko (talk) 18:16, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2008 Mahdi Army revolt

[edit]

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.116.170.203 (talk) 20:05, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

budi oprezan! to je normal daily toll--TheFEARgod (Ч) 21:07, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ne revolt, najbolje bi ime bilo Iraq Spring Fighting of 2008 --TheFEARgod (Ч) 20:45, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Piracy in Somalia

Seeing that you have done an excellent job of editing the War in Somalia timelines, I though you would like to know that I recently created the page piracy in Somalia. The chronology section is in dire needs of expansion and this type of thing seems to be your cup of tea. Please respect the Sri Lanka Dispute Resolution Agreement

[edit]

This is a friendly notice. You may have overlooked that the article Sri Lankan Civil War, which you reverted, is under the Sri Lanka Dispute Resolution Agreement subject to edit restrictions. This means, among other things, that it is not allowed to revert to the same version more than once a day. Since there was also an other account who performed the same reversions as you, please be advised that this restriction is on a per version basis, not on a per account basis. Please therefore best avoid reverting articles that are subject to this agreement. As the blue box specifies, please instead report any issues at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation. Your confusion over UNITAF

[edit]

In response to your confusion as to why UNITAF is regarded as a success, it may be helpful to read the "Results" section of the article. Additionally, your question is not new and was raised here as well. Hope that helps! BWH76 (talk) 15:20, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I have reverted a few recent page moves which you performed:

In the latter two cases, I was motivated by two factors. First, "X conflict" and "X insurgency" are generally much more commonly used than "Insurgency in X". Second, the topic of the article is not insurgency in South Thailand generally, but a single specific insurgency; thus, a title such as "South Thailand insurgency" is less generic and more clearly identifies the scope of the article. Black Falcon (Talk) 17:59, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Compare the results for "Insurgency in South Thailand with those for "South Thailand insurgency. The latter is usage is about 10 times more common. Similarly, "Sa'dah conflict" is much more common than "Insurgency in Sadah". The fact that other articles use "Insurgency in X" may just be an indication that they need to be renamed (since, again, none of the article consider the general topic of insurgency in a particular country, but rather cover a specific insurgency within a country). Black Falcon (Talk) 20:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did not say that everything should be "X insurgency" or "X wars", and I only raised the possibility that the three articles which you gave as examples (incidentally, I noticed that you either creator or moved all three to their current titles) ought to be renamed.
As for the Google numbers, according to Wikipedia:Naming conventions, "article naming should prefer what the greatest number of English speakers would most easily recognize". So, while Google numbers are never definitive, they ought to be considered.
Finally, as I've noted, "Insurgency in X" is an ambiguous title, since it does not clearly reflect the scope of an article. The article South Thailand insurgency is not an article about insurgency in South Thailand in general (as suggested by the alternate title of Insurgency in South Thailand), but is rather an article about a single, specific insurgency currently taking place there. Black Falcon (Talk) 20:29, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds good; and I won't move or re-move any additional articles until we've had more opportunity to discuss this and reach a consensus. I'll post a notice at Talk:Insurgency in Sa'dah to invite comment from other users. Cheers, Black Falcon (Talk) 20:32, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Shabab al-Muomineen

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Shabab al-Muomineen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. – ThatWikiGuy (talk) 12:18, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did have the source. But I was also busy gathering some evidence about HIV prevalance in Nigeria. I clicked submit and I knew I forgot to finish editing the Somali article and I thought I got it all when I did the two subsequent edits. I guess not.

By the way. The only part that seems to be the same has the May 8th casualty list is the IED in Baidoa. But the number of deaths and wounds are to different. I think It's safe to remove it since it was a Somali Soldier who said it. Liban

[edit]

Pet mrtvih javljaju.(Top Gun)

Evo uradio sam 2008 Beirut clashes.(Top Gun)

Pod policajac sam mislio clan snaga obezbedjenja parlamenta.

Sto vrlo logicno zvuci.

synthesizing

[edit]

The section about Ethiopia on Prees TV is synthesizing, and a violation of WP:OR which states "Synthesizing material occurs when an editor tries to demonstrate the validity of his or her own conclusions by citing sources that when put together serve to advance the editor's position". The section is also citing Press TV as a primary source to criticize Press TV, that is against the rules as well.--Sina111 (talk) 23:29, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, you`re synthesizing. The Macleans source is an editorial and makes no mention of Somalia whatsoever. The other two "sources" are unreliable partisan pro-Ethiopian websites which fail WP:RS.--Sina111 (talk) 14:53, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sudan

[edit]

Top Gun

Pozdrav i tebi...

Međutim nisam vičan ovom vikipedisanju,članak sam eto čisto sklepao uz prilično slabno znanje engleskog i slabo poznajem uređivanje i pisanje članaka na Vikipediji uopšte.

You may note that mnj blogspot is the official press site for one of the two rebel groups, and as such is quoted in the press (Reuters, etc). It is therefore a valid source. Note also that the 70 figure is sorely out of date for Niger: Reuters has reported at least 6 confirmed military deaths since the first time they used the 70 figure in April Here. Amnesty international and MNJ figure provide much higher figure (which are probably incorrect as well) but the Niger government will not enumerate dead. This gives us competing figures, hence a range. Please take a second look at the refs in the article. Thanks, T L Miles (talk) 20:06, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not to beat the proverbial dead horse, but here's the first instance of Reuter's use of the 70 figure: April 8th. Note the wording, continued through present, "in the last year". As the current round of fighting began in February 2007, this is not the figure for the entire conflict. And it is always prefaced with "at least". T L Miles (talk) 20:15, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're quite right on both accounts: it's in DIRE need of an update (which would reorganise the timeline I imagine); and the Mali figure is quite low, especially given the two spikes in attacks over the last four months. I'm afraid I never get beyond the collecting references stage. Next time I do that, I'll create a user subpage and link link to it on Talk:Second Tuareg Rebellion. Hopefully I can clear the decks and work on it. I'll share whatever I find so you and others can keep updating it! Cheers, T L Miles (talk) 15:28, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, MUCH better titles for both articles, as there's no agreement on what constitutes the "First" such insurgency. T L Miles (talk) 15:40, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pozdrav!

tim brojkama je mjesto u članku o ratu. Nema smisla nagađati--TheFEARgod (Ч) 09:26, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Belligerent accusations

[edit]

WP:GF In a recent edit summary, you blithely wrote: "bah it's the same. since you haven't done this needed change it's still vandalism." I recommend that you look at WP:VANDAL and tell me which kind of vandalism you think I was doing. There are two separate tags because there are two separate problems with citation and verification: one for article that have no source at all and another for articles that don't have enough sources. It seems clear to me that those are not the same, but substantively different. —Justin (koavf)TCM00:10, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

you blatantly removed it, saying it's spurious: I didn't know the meaning of that word, and neither saw that the tag was in fact wrong. I felt deceived when the explanation from you arrived just after 2-3 reverts. --TheFEARgod (Ч) 09:17, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, from my experience I can tell you that Wikipedia has problems with text written in Inkscape. I can only make you the following suggestions:

1. Delete the spaces you left before Vila Bianca. (Wikipedia is not recognising more than 1 space left between letters and any space before the first letters in a row)

2. Try to rewrite Vila rustica and Mali Brijun. (I am not 100% sure it will work but try doing this)

Speedy deletion of Image talk:Tri prsta.jpg

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image talk:Tri prsta.jpg, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image talk:Tri prsta.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Skoro sam zavrsio listu poginulih policajaca i vojnika.

A zasto kazem Alzir? Mozda bi trebao da promenis naziv i Insurgency in the Maghreb u Terrorism in the Maghreb? Guyver85 (talk) 04:51, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Nomination

[edit]

Hey man, your nominated article Abole_oil_field_raid currently says it is under review because I guess you accidentally posted something there? Maybe want to fix that because some people might go to review it then think that it is already under review. See ya. --Banime (talk) 17:02, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Iracki rat

[edit]

Jeli? 2003 (invasion), 2004-May 2008 (guerilla war), June 2008-ongoing (sporadic fighting). Sta mislis?89.216.235.26 (talk) 11:10, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ugh. I'm worked up now and not sleeping. Must... remember... XKCD. No hard feelings on the AFD, it looks like you're going to win on that one. Anyhow, I just wanted to say that I very much appreciate your willingness to assume good faith. Have a cookie. :-) Debate 15:51, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
