Added comment on Talk page regarding St Andrew Boat Club
Hi David, see response vide https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Q8682#Dealing_with_dead_links_-_St_Andrew_Boat_Club,_Edinburgh. Leave it with you. Merely updated one link (Scottish Rowing), and simplified multiple references to the same broken URL, but was moved to External links section. Up to you. You're the rower. I thought the change read better/more aesthetic. Feel free to delete this Talk. Q8682 (talk) 14:22, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- I've replied at User talk:Q8682#Dealing with dead links - St Andrew Boat Club, Edinburgh, and of course I am happy if you find better links. References to support specific text are in general better than disconnected external links. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:29, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
Beverly hills chihuahua (film series)
WHY DID YOU REVERT MY EDITS WITHOUT EXPLANATION!!! I am fine with deleting beverly hills chihuahua 4: Hasta la vista’s info BUT!!! The original’s info I changed was true! I WATCHED THE MOVIE YESTERDAY!!! Woothero (talk) 15:35, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
You did have a explanation Woothero (talk) 15:38, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
But why delete the info on the original??? Woothero (talk) 15:39, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Please don't SHOUT. The explanation on your talk page was crystal clear. Changes need to be supported by references to reliable sources. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:40, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
- Changes should also be explained in edit summaries. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:43, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

- It's in the queue for review, so hopefully a reviewer will look at it in due course. There are currently over 2500 drafts awaiting review, over a thousand of which have been waiting for more than 3 weeks. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:40, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
Commonwealth Games
Hi. You reverted my changes in the Commonwealth Games page. You can check the Summer Olympic Games page. In that page, the table showing the list of Summer Olympic Games too have the external links. So, I think it's fine to put external links in each Commonwealth Games row. These external links, which are placed in each row are referring to the game's information given in the Offical Commonwealth Games Federation website. --Sheffieldgraduate (talk) 00:06, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
- An interesting point. Certainly in contravention of the guidance at WP:External links, but perhaps it was felt that it looked cleaner to have direct links from that "Ref." column rather than to include them as extra references in accordance with Help:Referencing for beginners. It doesn't seem to have been queried on the talk page of that Summer Olympics page, so if you want to repeat your addition it might be wise to refer to the analogy with the Olympic page in an edit summary. In such a situation I wouldn't revert it again. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:22, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
- updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Explain?
Why would you make this edit a revert when there was clearly no need for it? Someone added a ship that was not yet in commission, so I reverted that edit, which is a correct revert. You wait until the ship is in commission and instead of just updating the page with a straitgh up edit like every other normal person does, you revert my edit? Was there a particular reason for that? - theWOLFchild 16:57, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
- I did that because all of the information in the previous editor's change has now become correct. I intended no criticism of your revert, which was of course correct at the time, but the content which was required now was what the previous editor had added prematurely at the time. My edit was an "undo", rather than a rollback which would have implied an error on your part. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:04, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

hi David
The information written by Quilquils is false and fake.. Kafanchan don't have an Emir.. We only have Kings which are known as sarki. So the Emir written on the Kafanchan info by Quilquls is known as Sarkin Hausawa just as we have Sarkin Kaninkon and Sarkin Fanstwam.. Secondly Kafanchan metropolis is not dominated by Hausa Fulani.. We only have a small scale of Hausa people living in the center of the town which are not even upto 10,000 out of the 83,000 people stated in 2006 so you see that Kafanchan is a 90% percent Christian dominated town, Kafanchan has never been conquered by the Fulani people so.. So there is nothing like Usman Dan fodio flag in Kaduna.. We only have small Hausa traders who migrated from the Northern Kaduna some years ago.. And our people gave them lands to stay so they are just visitors.. I was born in Kafanchan I stayed in this town for about 25 Years..so I will want you to warn Mr Quilquls or whatever his name is to stop writing wrong information about Kafanchan if not this could Spark Religious Crisis.. Please warn him.. Thanks Dankafanchan (talk) 19:04, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
So warn him to stop writing wrong information about Kafanchan Dankafanchan (talk) 19:05, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
IPv6
I noted your comment at AIV about defaulting to blocking the full /64 Ipv6 range by default. I have a great deal of sympathy with that, but as noted at mw:Help:Range blocks/IPv6 #Collateral damage, although a /64 range is often one person, it could be an entire organisation. So it's probably safest to wait for second instance, or check the range's contributions thoroughly before deciding on blocking the full /64 range. Cheers --RexxS (talk) 12:24, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

Question from User:Ashoka0312
Why Mr David ,did you delete my edit on arbaaz khan . article about the controversy was carried by almost all available newspaper in India . instead of blaming me or criticising me , please update you knowledge, and then edit someone's edit. If I see you editing my page , without due diligence , I will report you to the Wikipedia administration. Do you need screen shot of news ,to support my edit?. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashoka0312 (talk • contribs) 22:28, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
- You claimed in the edit summary of this edit that you were fixing a typo, when this was blatantly untrue. In fact you were adding unsourced text. Unsourced text is unacceptable in any potentially controversial case, but particularly in the case of WP:biographies of living persons. You are, of course, entitled to refer my conduct to administrators, but you need to be aware that your own conduct would be liable to scrutiny, see WP:boomerang. --David Biddulph (talk) 05:58, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

Guildford Thameslink
Can you please clarify how [1] shows that Guildford have Thameslink instead of Southern. I don't understand. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:26, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- I didn't realise that you didn't know how to read the National Rail Timetable. TL at the top of the column is Thameslink; Southern would have been SN. The abbreviations are listed at https://cdn.networkrail.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/References-and-Symbols.pdf . The fact that they are Thameslink is confirmed by checking the details from http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandfares/GLD/LBG/tomorrow/0615/dep?directonly and (as you earlier mentioned RTT, by pages such as http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/W60909/2018/06/12/advanced ). --David Biddulph (talk) 21:19, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- I haven't ever seen a Class 700 at Guildford and I don't see any coverage on the news of the change in London Bridge to Guildford services from Southern to Thameslink. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:31, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- However, the timetables are wrong! Thameslink don't operate to Guildford. Southern trains go to Guildford. I have seen it myself that Southern operate 10-car Class 377s to Guildford at peak hours. I have never seen a Thameslink Class 700 ever running to Guildford. Pkbwcgs (talk) 20:46, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- As you are presumably aware, Wikipedia relies on published reliable sources. What you or I have or haven't seen is of no interest to Wikipedia. That would be termed original research. We all know that GTR are in a shambles; perhaps under new management they may get their documentation in order, or someone else will publish something relevant. --David Biddulph (talk) 21:37, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- However, I found a source. On [2], there is a section called 'Where can I download the original May 2018 Monday to Friday timetables?', if you click on it and download 'Southern Railway - London to Sutton Epsom Dorking and Horsham', it will download the timetable that is relevant to London Bridge to Guildford and other Sutton and Mole Valley lines services. On the first page itself, it says that the timing type for the 0555 London Bridge to Guildford says '3776'. This implies as Class 377/6 which is a Southern train, not a Thameslink train. Many other services on this timetable also say '7000' (Class 700/0 Thameslink) and '4558' (Class 455/8 Southern). I am already aware that Thameslink are having problems with their new timetable and they may roll out Class 700/0s soon on this route but for now, this service is being operated by a Class 377/6 or sometimes a different Class 377. Moves to draft
Can I remind you that no editor is obliged to use draftspace if they have the technical ability to create articles in mainspace? Heinz Nigg was obviously not moved to mainspace by mistake. – Joe (talk) 09:07, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- When the creator has submitted a draft for review and had it declined, it is not wise for the creator to move it to mainspace himself without addressing the points raised in the review. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:10, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- It may or may not be "wise", depending on how good the review was. Regardless, they can if they want to and unilaterally overriding that is edit warring, plain and simple. – Joe (talk) 09:13, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
Head of the Yarra
I am a member of the Head of the Yarra Committee and was asked to correct the Wikipedia page, which was created by a person not connected with the regatta. I updated the page, removing several errors and adding essential information. Your reversion has reinstated the errors. Please undo your reversion immediately. I am happy to discuss formatting issues, but reintroducing errors is not the way to go. JimBreen (talk) 01:23, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- If you are a member of the committee you need to read the advice on conflict of interest, and suggest changes using the article's talk page, with supporting references, rather than making edits on the article yourself. --David Biddulph (talk) 01:27, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- I do not believe this is a COI matter at all. I have reinstated the page, replacing the external links with references as recommended. The one I left in place is to a map. I am quite happy to "suggest changes" via the Talk page, as I regularly do that with other Wikipedia pages, but this is just basic factual material about our regatta. Who would be responding the suggested changes? JimBreen (talk) 01:50, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Miller Moss
I see you've added it to the list of Nuttalls! I didn't think it was notable enough for its own article but have made a section, with sources, at Knott#Miller Moss. Good to see UK hills being well looked after in Wikipedia. Do you know what happened to (or which was) Nuttall 445, if this one raised the total from 444 to 446 as claimed? Happy editing, and walking! PamD 15:11, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
- But where did you get the grid ref from? It doesn't look like a summit. I can't find a definite answer as to where it is, and whether Little Lingy Hill exists or is a synonym - see this and the comment posted at bottom of this.
- No, I was getting Great and Little LH muddled: LLH is clearly a synonym, and it's that larger contour line to the north, as in the WalkLakes database.PamD 15:37, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
- The grid ref came from Streetmap but I agree that the point highlighted doesn't look like a summit. I wonder whether it is the 609m point marked as "Pile of stones" when zooming in a notch. --David Biddulph (talk) 15:51, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
- I've changed the GR to the one in WalkLakes, which looks much more plausible. And spent half the afternoon rummaging around the Nuttalls' own database etc and upgraded the account at Lists_of_mountains_and_hills_in_the_British_Isles#Nuttalls, and left a note at Talk:List_of_Hewitts_and_Nuttalls_in_England#Updates_needed about more which need to be added. Expertscape
Just updated the submission for Expertscape. Any feedback or suggestions for improvement would be much appreciated. B4chex11 (talk) 21:51, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
- Your attempted submission failed. It was malformatted because it was preceded by 2 unterminated ref tags. I cured that submission problem by this edit, but your draft is still garbled, as (for example) it now includes 2 reference sections and it includes misplaced external links within the article text. I see that half of the references are to the subject's own website rather than to independent sources. You might want to sort it out before a reviewer gets round to looking at it. I've added a section heading before your message here, as it didn't relate to the section in which it was placed. --David Biddulph (talk) 23:27, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. Hello, I wanted to thank you. I think you fixed I mistake I made. House of Este
dear @DavidBiddulph I eliminated the shouting part; However it would be also helpful ( to avoid frustrations) if wikipedia had some policy against anonymous people writing false allegations and keep these visible without removing them...Do you understand that this person has titled this section Orioles Hoax? When it is clear that it is not.
You are suggesting me to ask for a third opinion or dispute resolution to understand if a judiciary Pronouncement of an EU State Tribunal exist? I provided the direct link; it is sufficient to get google translator and check. The person for some reason?? is not doing it.
Surely Wikipedia has some duty of care to avoid defamatory claim?I get the rule of not threating defamation proceedings but how can people defend themselves for being tainted without any accountability?

David you removed the inclusion of this type of oar and have claimed that it is soap boxing. It is a current oar design. It has been approved by FISA. It is being used in competition. Autopatrolled granted
Hi David Biddulph, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Hi, the display of date ranges for fossils has been wrong for at least a year now; for instance Gigantoraptor has a Cretaceous age but the arrow points into the Jurassic. Maybe you know who might be able to fix this. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:22, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

KLASK article
Dear David Biddulph,
You made a comment on my KLASK draft that the external sources are misplaced - and that there are no citations. I have tried to figure out how to do it differently but would like to hear more precisely what I have done wrong.
I have simply linked to the external sources where the information in the paragraph or sentence was found, and from what I can read this is how it should be done? Or am I mistaken? Should I simply remove the in-text references and only keep references at the end of the article?
Correct, there are no citations. But I guess that is not a requirement?
Hope you will take your time and reply. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BA:8F6:9600:68D3:24B0:69E0:9FE7 (talk) 08:17, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
- Each of the 3 reviews gave you a link to WP:REFB (labelled as "technical help" in their reviews), & I gave you a link there too. That's what you need to read. In this edit I've changed one of the misplaced external links to a reference as an example for you as to how it's done. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:51, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! It was just the kind of guidance that I needed. I believe to have changed it now, so it cites the sources below :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BA:8F6:9600:1DF:17AB:EAD4:9886 (talk) 12:53, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
- That's making progress. Now you need to get rid of the rest of the external links in the text, turning them into references if appropriate, and delete the "references" that you've listed at the foot of the article, particularly if you've already used them properly as references from within the text. You should also remove the bold formatting from section headings; Wikipedia applies appropriate heading formats automatically. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:04, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
Dear David,
I want to thank you for your helpful feedback. It was to the point, which I appreciate! I believe to have corrected the errors and have resubmitted the article for a future review. Hopefully this can go online within a month or two.

- It's gradually improving, but you've still got a fistful of misplaced external links within the text. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:21, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
Is it okay to keep external links within the text if it refers to other wiki-pages in foreign languages? Or wikitravel? It cannot find them as internal links, unfortunately. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BA:8F6:9600:E52E:F45E:C806:ACD (talk) 10:49, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- You already have wikilinks to a number of Wikipedia pages in other languages. Alternatively you can use Template:Interlanguage link. The Wikitravel links do not look constructive; another WMF project is Wikivoyage, to which you could link using Template:Wikivoyage, or use the prefix voy: (so
<nowiki>voy:Copenhagen</nowki>
renders as voy:Copenhagen, or can be piped as for any other wikilink), but I don't see any need to do that, we're not trying to provide a travel guide. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:11, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
I agree, and I can totally see how this editing along the way has cleaned up the article. Thanks! I managed to change the external location links to internal links. Not sure the interlanguage template is within my editing abilities :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BA:8F6:9600:E52E:F45E:C806:ACD (talk) 11:44, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Your revert
[4] Everybody was responding to the OP's message of 14:12 UTC; first I did, then Roxy, then you, then AntiCompositeNumber. All of us. Normally all these replies to the OP would come in chronological order, and would all be indented one step. Why you think your response is exceptional and needs to be top-posted escapes me, but obviously it's not worth arguing about. Bishonen | talk 16:18, 5 October 2018 (UTC).
- Part of the confusion was caused because part of the OP's message of 14:12 UTC was indented one notch and another part wasn't. I indented my reply 2 notches. When you moved my reply to below yours (which was indented one notch), it made it appear that I was replying to you, which I wasn't. But, as you say, it's not worth arguing about. --David Biddulph (talk) 22:34, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

Araldico69
Hi thank you so adding or erasing is not minor; what shall i do when I add or erase parts to improve, clarify or make the text more readable?
Also if I find my page has been vandalised what shall I do? I have to say I am very skeptical of wikipedia you still do not erase the sections titled Hoax (talk page) of House of Este and Ercole III even if I showed all the links to prove they are not and I challenged the person to demonstrate that was a hoax ( obviously ths person disappeared as cannot do so); is it fair ( not to me as i am anonymous) but to leave the Este Orioles family to be defamed publically without doing anything? It seems to me you are very keen in teaching me the rules of Wikipedia but you do not do anything to address unfair situations
Araldico69 (talk) 19:03, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
- Don't mark as minor.
- Wikipedia has a very specific definition of vandalism. You are involved in a content dispute; if you can't resolve it you need to read about WP:dispute resolution. --David Biddulph (talk) 22:30, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
irrelevant diatribe
|
---|
dear factright; I am not sure about your definition of point of view. I have always thought that point of view are not necessarily based on hard fact. you use a specific term in the House of Este and Ercole III ; you use the term Hoax. I asked you several times to produce proofs that my writing was a hoax. You failed to do so. I wrote the House of Este Orioles page to further clarify about my writing. Now as by profession I assess Human behaviour.. in relation to your continue pestering ( borderline virtual bullying) without bringing any proofs + failing to check the links provided I assess your behaviour in two different ways 1) you are in bad faith and you have an agenda 2) you are a person frankly silly because you deny the evidence; Wikipedia should be based on provable Facts- not on the opinion of @Factright whoever is-; in the House of Este Orioles there are all the supports needed for a person in good faith to just apologise (perhaps remaining of the opinion that you disagree with the Italian state Judge etc..) as the term hoax which it is still used is highly offensive; unfounded and hence defamatory because public. If the rules in Wikipedia are the same for everyone else; any attempt to vandalise (yes I read the wikipedia definition; you erased 3 times the section on both pages -House of Este/Ercole III without even informing) the Este Orioles page using the term Hoax should be sanctioned. As it is factless and frankly malicious. So I invite you once again As you have titled the sections HOAX; the proof to demonstrate this is on you. The admins of wikipedia have read all the talk and I hope they have understood that this is not a hoax and for some reason not sure why you continue having this bizarre behaviour. you should demonstrate to me; wikipedia and the readers that: 1) the Ercole III provvedimento di giustizia is forged (this check was done in the legal process and you know the result, which I understand you do not like; you do not have any expertise to do so); 2) the judicial pronouncement is a fake document and was not issued by an Italian Tribunale (city of Lecce 2017). Contact them and ask for a copy 3) after having translated the judicial pronouncement what I wrote in Italics is not true.

I came back from a day away to find this ridiculous diatribe continuing on my talk page. It has no place here. You are both aware that if you can't resolve your content dispute you need read about WP:dispute resolution. Top Tallest skyscrapers in Europe
Hello, it was my desire to edit the “Tallest Skyscraper in Europe” Top as it includes so many buildings in Russia, country that doesnt belong to Europe. While it is true that Saint-Petersburg is a city in European territory, many of the skyscrapers in the top are actually in Moscow. The same applies to Turkey, while Istanbul is partially in European territory, Turkey is mostly an Asian country. Hence the top is very hoaxed. Should be very different from what it is right now. I actually spent an hour+ modifying such page and would be greatful if my modifications were restored. In case there are no backups Im willing to restart. I am doing the community a favor! - Yes, I assumed that you were having trouble with the edit; that's why I marked it as reversion of a good-faith edit. Safest to check with "Show preview" before you save. --David Biddulph (talk) 11:23, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you David. Jamie Jamie Stuart 19:06, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

OOPS. I was trying to revert the valdalism / good faith edit by Universe128 who changed the year from 2019 to 2018, but I didn't check the facts closely enough, and didn't realise I caught your edit in my reversal. Sorry about that, and thanks for fixing it. Carlroddam (talk) 03:26, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
- Understood. Easily done. --David Biddulph (talk) 03:27, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi David. Thanks for this which is right by any reasonable standard of sanity. However, I note the related problem that the current infobox image is of such a son/daughter-of-Satan corruption, perversion and general wrongness. I wonder if we can fix it? Non-free images
Thank you for your note on my talk page. I pick up the picture from an other wiki web page for the First Sea Lord. I believe if it is ok from a wiki page it is for the first Sea lord web page. I do have difficulties to embed picture in some web page (Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy as exemple. Let me know what could I do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by P2bn (talk • contribs) 17:05, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

Canary Islands
Why u change order of Canary? Alphabetic order, population order and who appears in law.
Why is the reason you change Santa Cruz first? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greatwish (talk • contribs) 08:40, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
False, the correct form is: Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. See the Spanish version: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canarias
The user Greatwish, it's a puppet account of Enciclopiedicomutante, Nicert, Canary88 and Atlantecan. All these are puppet accounts that have been blocked in Spanish, see here Canary88, But he continues to create puppet accounts to vandalize.--87.223.111.202 (talk) 09:19, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
The user has created another account Spanishwikilp.--87.223.111.202 (talk) 13:38, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

- If you had taken the trouble to look at my edit you would have seen that far from removing any references I was reinstating the reference which you had removed. I also removed the misplaced external links which you had added. My edit summary and my message on your user talk page made that clear. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:18, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
