Template:S-roy

Greetings Mr {e.g. Rees Jones}. I have just noticed the existence and rather extensive usage in a category of succession boxes of the template s-roy, which you have created. I would therefore like to inquire as to the purpose of this template apart from it being a header for heirs to the British Crown, as well as to the fact that there is no documentation or any other information concerning it whatsoever (which is the reason why I am asking these questions in the first place).

I would also like to inform you of the existence of the Succession Box Standardization WikiProject, which takes care of all issues pertaining to succession boxes. You might be interested enough to register yourself as a member, or you might not; the fact remains that it would be much more preferable if you would discuss with us any new succession box templates before their creation, more so their use, in order to ensure that they will conform to our standards and will not create any undesirable problems in our template system.

I am glad to hear this. However, this does not change the fact that there is no information available on the purpose of this template. In other words, we have no idea what exactly you had in mind when you created it. If you do provide some information, we might be able to integrate said template into our template system (as it does seem to fill in some holes). And, from now on, we would appreciate it very much if you would discuss an idea about a succession box template in our WikiProject's talk page before you create that template—I have already mentioned the dangers of uncontrolled template creation. "Impossible Things" userbox

Hi there. I don't understand the "switch" arguments on your John Smith/Impossible Things userbox. I see that it's both sentiments in one template, but not how you switch them. (I actually can't see me ever choosing the "live like John Smith" option.) More important to me, I was hoping to swap out two of the links to Human Nature (Doctor Who episode), but all I did was make a mess and I had to revert. Can you give me some quick tips? As a matter of interest, why'd you add the ‡ to the Thailand reference in the Indian Ocean tour?

Also, btw, MediaWiki treats <br> and <br /> as identical and always outputs the XHTML-compliant form, so there's no point worrying about which is used in an article. I tend to leave them as <br> in articles as it's generally easier to read.

Great work on that table, though; it looks much better than I'd made it :o)

Camillia, HRH The...

Where else is that form used? It's absolutely awful! I'd rather have something like HRH The Duchess of Cornwall with Née Camilla Shand or whatever below it in a smaller font. But not this improper form... Charles 21:23, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

It's used nowhere else, I was considering the rest of the templates, where someone else had pointed out that the current holder should have their forename to differentiate them from the others – Camilla's name had no place in her title, so I placed it before. If you've gotta a preferable way of differentiating HRH from every other HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, then that is honestly great – what would you think of "Camilla Mounbatten-Windsor, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall"? Camilla doesn't have the surname Mountbatten-Windsor or Windsor. She took her husband's "surname" upon marriage, which is nothing. HRH should not follow a comma. Why not:

Camilla
Styled HRH The Duchess of Cornwall

Re:Anglicising royal names

I wasn't being awkward - I've seen you do some great work but had to disagree with this edit. I quite agree with Georg>George et al (albeit with a possible note stating the original name) but I think Louis>Lewis is going a bit too far. I'm sure PrEd and PrWi (and others) pronounce their names Loo-ee and not the less prestigious (however "anglican") Loo-iss. Imagine your name as the former and people pronouncing it as the latter (?) Re:Queens regnant and courtesy titles

I've looked for (and would love to provide) a source but can't find seem to find one. I changed the date back purely based on the fact that HM doesn't use Duke of Lancaster (although suo jure) so I can't imagine her being DoE etc. as a queen regnant. It was a rather broad and offset edit but I have a hunch that the use of DoE ceased in 1952. Craigy (talk) 23:04, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Official opposition frontbench (UK)

Hi Mauls – I've just stopped by Official opposition frontbench (UK), and find myself entirely confounded by the table, which, according to the edit history, you constructed. What exactly do the colours mean? As far as I can discern, it's Commons and Lords – but then why do some remain uncoloured? And also, why are there spacer column(s) on parts of the left of the table? Do they serve some purpose? Also, what purpose does the article in question fulfil, which isn't already fulfilled by Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet (United Kingdom)? To cover the issues in reverse order, the Shadow Cabinet is a much smaller group than the 'frontbench team', it isn't just the secretaries of State, it also includes the ministers for each department. It does explain this in the introduction to the article...

The colours do show Commons and Lords for the ministers, which should be self-explanatory - although feel free to add a key if you like. It's much more compact than writing 'Shadow Ministers in the Lords' and 'Shadow Ministers in the Commons' as used to be the case in the article.

The secretaries of state aren't coloured, as they cover the whole department, rather than being the representatives in a particular house.

The first column is meant to tie each department together, but it's not really necessary - the departmental headings do that pretty well. Feel free to remove them if they bother you.
