A bootleg means it's a live album. Look from here on the history of Live At Bonds by The Clash. - No-Fx
- Wrong again. a bootleg means a pirated release or released unofficially, usually without the artist's permission. Many live albums are officially released (not bootlegs). Many bootlegs arn't live (eg, unofficially released studio sessions, etc). You still haven't explained what a 'bottleg' is though. quercus robur 22:03 22 May 2003 (UTC)

In case you didn't already know, I've created a group watchlist of sorts at Wikipedia:Favorite pages of banned users to help with tracking when Michael is vandalizing (and any future vandals like him). So feel free too use it, I have already found it helpful, and please add to it when he vandalizes more. Thanks. MB 22:11 6 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Congratulations, you have just been made a sysop! You have volunteered for boring housekeeping activities which normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops basically can't do anything: They cannot delete pages arbitarily (only obvious junk like "jklasdfl,öasdf JOSH IS GAY"), they cannot protect pages in an edit war they are involved in, they cannot ban signed in users. What they can do is delete junk as it appears, ban anonymous vandals, remove pages that have been listed on Votes for deletion for more than a week, protect pages when asked to by other members, and help keep the few protected pages there are, among them the precious Main Page, up to date.
Note that almost everything you can do can be undone, so don't be too worried about making mistakes. You will find more information at Wikipedia:Administrators, please take a look before experimenting with your new powers. Drop me a message if there are any questions or if you want to stop being a sysop (could it be?). Have fun! --Eloquence 13:39 20 Jun 2003 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for your endorsement! I really appreciate it! Poor Yorick 22:55 22 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Hi, I deleted the Apostrophe' article. It was by hardbanned user Michael, using his newest identity, Unbanned user. All contributions by hard banned users should be deleted on sight irrespective of content if only by them, or reverted to another user's work if another user worked on the article before them. As Michael was the originator of the article and so there was no earlier work to revert to I have deleted it. I am letting you know because you made some later changes, not realising it was Michael's work. Basically keep an eye out for music articles written by a new article. They are almost invariably in the form of details of an album. If you have any doubt, check the user's main page - if he is believed to be Michael someone will usually have placed a note to that effect on his page. If in doubt, check the vandalism page to see if he is listed there under that new name. Michael's edits are notoriously unreliable (he mixes fact with stuff he makes up) but even if they were 100% accurate, if by a hardbanned user they should be binned on sight. lol FearÉIREANN 18:42 5 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- It was the first edit by that user, so I could only be 99.975412% sure it was him, so couldn't just go deleting. Therefore I just checked all of the article for "mistakes". Found a "b" instead of "B", which he corrected himself anyway, "Apostrophe" instead of "Apostrophe'", which didn't seem important, but I corrected, and a date that was the same as other sites said, but other sites also said the date wasn't completely certain, which I added to the article, don't know if that counts as a "mistake". At the time, there wasn't any talk page, or user page.
NP. :-) FearÉIREANN 22:37 5 Jul 2003 (UTC)
hello,
er, is it common practice in a discussion about banning someone that this "someone" vote is taken into account? Say, if decisions are taken upon full consensus only, and a blocking vote is enough to prevent the ban, if Lir says he is against him being banned, he then will not be ? :-) User:anthere
- Actually, I just assumed RK would be against banning himself, not sure if I actually checked that he stated he was against the ban. Anyway, I'm pretty sure 1 vs 6/7 isn't quite enough for a ban, so probably doesn't matter whether RK's vote is taken into account. كسيپ Cyp 22:00 9 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Hi,
I seem to have sorted out the problem with these odd characters. They get broken
with Lynx. And I must use Lynx. The solution seems to be to put Linux console in unicode mode and change Lynx options accordingly. I have been just experimenting with editing the offending parts of text with Lynx and
now it looks OK. I sometimes forget to put the console into unicode mode and this might occasionally happen. Besides Lynx does not show the characters specially they are just "aa" letters before and after editing with Lynx, so it's harder to spot somthing is broken.

I am very willing to go over either New Imperialism version with you - I think its very important that somebody read these. This is an important part of history, a result of the industrial revolution and a cause of the World Wars. Pizza Puzzle
- Unless someone else reads them first, and somehow changes all the sentences into mathematical statements, I think it's better if someone else looks at them instead. A spell checker could understand them better than I could. כסיף Cyp 08:21 24 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Absolutely not, 172 argues that it is "for laymen" so that he can pretend to be an expert and argue that his version is somehow superior. READ HIS ARTICLE -- ALL OF IT I guarantee you, that regardless of your knowledge on the subject, it will become overwhelmingly apparent that this article is not wikified and needs an overhaul. The article is cut and pasted together, repetitive, POV, rambling, and frequently off topic. It is also way past the 32k limit. I also guarantee you that you will not be able to read his entire article - its an abomination that will give you a headache.
- I can't read more than a few sentences of either article, before the words stop making sense. Even if the articles were perfect, I still couldn't make any sense of them. I don't even understand the title. I am not disagreeing with you, simply stating that I have no way of telling the difference between a masterpiece on the subject and computer-generated ramblings. כסיף Cyp 09:49 26 Jul 2003 (UTC)
My article is not a summary, it is a complete rewrite and it should replace the older article. Pizza Puzzle

I see you've changed your byline to Cyrillic characters. I'd like to inform you that the four Cyrillic characters you have there are all consonants. Remove the diacritic mark, and then you'll have something that may correspond to your actual nickname, depending on how you really pronounce it. -Smack 06:20, 5 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Dear Cyp, i put that notice, because i started to post nonsense pages in Wikipedia:Deleted test to avoid filling Votes for Deletion with unecessary junk. Cheers, Muriel Gottrop 12:13, 6 Aug 2003 (UTC)

I would like to express a heartfelt thanks to: Κσυπ Cyp , Cimon Avaro on a pogostick, snoyes, Adam Bishop , Secretlondon, Hephaestos , 207.189.98.44 , Jamesday, Pakaran for nominating me and supporting me. It is encouraging to know that my efforts over the past 6 months have been appreciated. I prize your actions all the more knowing that many of you were not familiar with my work and had to do some research to decide whether to support me or not (because I limit my contributions to the 750 business/economics articles) . Thank you for the time, the effort, and the confidence.
There was a minority that did not support me because of my name. It seems that half have a problem because they read “shat” into it and half because of the word “god”. I find this amazing. The people that read “shat” into the character string had to ignore the commonly used word “hat” and pick out a word that has not be in common use for more than a century. My spell checker is currently telling me that the word dosn’t exist. One complainant insisted on converting “Monad” into “gonads” and “Excrescent” into “excrement”. Another saw “a dog eating a bone” as a sexual act. All I can say to these people is “Get professional help”.
As for changing my name, I have decided not to do that for two reasons. One is a philosophical reason. For an explanation, read The Crucible, particularly where John Proctor declares the importance of your name. The price of adminship is too high. The other reason is a practical one. I find it useful to use the same name on all my online activities. It is interesting that two universities and several commercial sites don’t have a problem with my name. Maybe it is not all that surprising since they are not inhabited by trolls trying to forward their cause.
Hope to see you around the business/economics pages in the future. mydogategodshat 03:02, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Symmetry groups
The symmetry groups of the archimedean solids snub cube and snub dodecahedron are like the symmetry groups of the cube and the dodecahedron, just without the reflections. Would those groups be called "O" and "I"? (Instead of "Oh" and "Ih"?) Κσυπ Cyp 14:43, 22 Nov 2003 (UTC)
- Yes - the symmetry group of the snub cube is "O", and the symmetry group of the snub dodecahedron is "I" - see octahedral group and icosahedral group at MathWorld. -- Gandalf61 16:06, Nov 22, 2003 (UTC)
- Thanks. Seems they even have the coordinates for the snub cube there (but not at their actual snub cube article)... Hello. I notice that in Box-Muller transform you spelled Gaussian with a lower-case g. What you're not making sense of is the word where. The notation n!! does not mean the factorial of the factorial of n, but rather it means what it says it means after the word "where". That's what "where" means in this kind of mathematical jargon. The notation is obnoxious because n!! ought to mean the factorial of the factorial of n, but this and similar notation seem to have some currency. Michael Hardy 02:08, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)

polyhedron images
Hi Cyp,
I noticed that someone had started a listing Wikipedia:List of images of GFDL/GPL/... images. So I started a polyhedron listing Wikipedia:List of images/Math Diagrams/Polyhedra within the "Math diagrams" (should be "Mathematics", but whatever) to include those we created a while back. Then I did a 1,$s/.../.../ on the list from your homepage, a |sort and a manual tweak. If I have missed any, feel free to add.

- I saw that somewhere a few days ago (thought there were 5 or so at the time, but can't remember), was thinking I should look at it to see how it's done, and see if there's a more efficient way... Just had an exam today, maybe I'll actually have time to look at it properly, soon. Doesn't it say "Warning: .pov files are not a recommended format, save anyway?", where you can click on "save anyway"? If the system doesn't accept .pov files any more, try changing it to a .npov file. I thought about the problem a few months ago (or whenever I finished the Catalan solids), but couldn't think of a "neat" way of doing it, "neat" meaning automatically finding the coordinates for all the solids without some kind of repeated approximation. No promises, but maybe I can take a look soon. Κσυπ Cyp 22:51, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Ah yes, I forgot - Wikipedia prefers .npov to .pov 8-) I didn't see the "save anyway?" link, so either I have link blindness or it is no longer available. I will check next time. As for the J solids, I have mainly been doing what Johnson referred to as "Cut and Paste" solids, and doing them in batches of similar solid. Low hanging fruit. The half-dozen or so genuinely new ones (hebesphenomegacorona(?) et al) I am thinking about. The coords are algebraic, but this doesn't mean much. It is probably easiest to use a "ball and spring" simulation to solve for the coords. ... or find the coords somewhere else (no challenge). Andrew Kepert 04:23, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Polyhedral nets
Hi Cyp,
I just noticed where you have been inserting nets (flattened skins) of polyhedra here and there. With these, it is probably best to add a caption or explanation on what the image is. Does a page net (polyhedron) or similar exist? If not, it should, and you could put on each image a caption like "The net of the fubarahedron". (Ref: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Net.html).
I have been thinking of using Wikipedia:Infobox templates for the polyhedron pages. My feeling is that the net of the polyhedron could be put in here. I will to look up how to create one of these.
Also I noticed that your images have heavier lines on the joins, presumably from being redrawn. Bug or feature?
Cheers, Andrew Kepert 00:52, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Update - I have implemented two templates. See their use at Hebesphenomegacorona and Cuboctahedron. As I understand them, the templates don't have optional parameters (e.g. for most of the Johnson solids I don't think it is worth having a line for "dual" - this is not possible to disable) but there may be work-arounds using subtemplates and such. Too sophisticated for a first attempt. Also I think the template needs an "image caption" parameter (which could be blank) as your previous version of cuboctahedron page did have text there. Andrew Kepert 08:19, 8 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- P.S. See User:AndrewKepert/polyhedra
- The heavier lines on the joins were so it's easy to tell the difference between the edges and the joins. Also (actually the main reason) because it was easier to program that way. I inserted nets for all the platonic solids and archimedean solids. Think nets for the catalan solids would be harder to make. I was just throwing them in there, without worrying about layout. The last few were thrown in even faster, when I figured out how to use "" = "Cyp" to save time.
- How hard is it to make the remaining Johnson solids, compared to the ones already done? You seemed to be doing them so fast, that most would be done before I could program the program to sew up nets. In any case, I think I should make nets for them all, even if they can all be modelled without writing a program for it. I think there may be alternate ways of folding some nets, but folding starting folding from the corners with largest angles would probably work for most or all... Should be trivial to check how good a solution is, so should be relatively trivial to make a program for folding, just not sure if it would have a reasonable running time... Κσυπ Cyp 2004年11月11日 (木) 15:27 (UTC)
- I got bored with the cut-and-paste polyhedra (I started more of these than I finished) and decided that the sporadic ones (J84-J92) were a bit more of a challenge. I will get back to the others. It was a bit weird programming that stuff in povray, but it works, so who is to argue? In terms of the nets, I was thinking whether it could be done in reverse, constructing a net from the polyhedron, maybe via a breadth-first search. Anyway, I have serious stuff to deal with, and may not get back to this for a bit. I have added a todo to User:AndrewKepert/poly.pov if you feel you want to move it along a bit. If anything, I may do J90-J92 on the weekend. Andrew Kepert 00:00, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Rice's theorem response
Hi, I noticed this rather ancient comment of yours on Talk: Rice's theorem:
- Isn't it decidable if an algorithm halts after 3 billion steps? Can't you test it by running it for 3 billion steps? كسيپ Cyp 22:05 8 Jun 2003 (UTC)
This is a common confusion, and I added this paragraph to the article to help address it:
- It is important to note that Rice's Theorem does not say anything about properties of machines, only of functions and languages. For example, asking whether a machine runs for more than 100 steps on some input, whether it has more than 5 states, or whether it ever moves its tape head to the left are all nontrivial but decidable properties. They are not properties of the language because it is possible to find two machines recognizing exactly the same language, one which has the property and one which does not.
In short, Rice's Theorem only applies if the property being decided is a property not of the specific machine but of the language recognized by that machine. Derrick Coetzee 06:55, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- I wrote that when there was an early, short version of the page. I don't think it was clear to me at the time, that it had nothing to do with actual implementations or actual turing machines. Κσυπ Cyp 22:51, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Well, it's not exactly true to say it has nothing to do with actual Turing machines either. It is often stated in terms of deciding a property of a given Turing machine, and a property's nontriviality can also be defined in terms of recognizable languages. Deco 16:52, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Animated solids
I like the animated solids. How easy is it to slow them down? I feel we really need two versions - your current fast versions which give an overall impresion of the solids and a much slower version which allows you to inspect each view for a cople of seconds before stepping on. (Ditto the 4D 24-cell - did you do that one too?) -- SGBailey 09:02, 2004 Nov 18 (UTC)
Johnson solids
Hi again Cyp.
FYI - I have finished the Johnson solid images and stubs. Some work to be done, most of it relating to filling the infobox, but there are also some images to re-render. User:AndrewKepert/poly.pov is now current, although it is getting very crufty. I was thinking of changing the lighting/surface properties so that the Platonics were (say) red, the Archimedeans green, the catalans blue and the Johnsons yellow, but that would involve a major render and upload project. 8-P Since there are more J's than anything else, maybe they would stay green. I wish I had thought of this before I started.
I was hoping to get some feedback somewhere between rabid enthusiasm and outright digust regarding the infobox template - see User:AndrewKepert/polyhedra#Templatisation. In particular from the point of view of ease-of-edit, beauty and content. Another thing I have been experimenting with is forward-back browse links -- there are some stretches of the sequence implemented around J44 and J68. The main difference to your hand-coded tables is that I need to figure the best way to incorporate optional extra image links as you have used in places. Maybe another template variant is required.
Cheers, Andrew Kepert 08:40, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Sorry, haven't really had much time lately to work on it... If you finished calculating all solids, then there's no point in me trying to finish my program to find the coordinates... (Not sure when I would have gotten around to finishing it, anyway.) Since I have a faster computer now, it should be possible to help render them in a realistic time-frame... Think rendering the default one (1024x1024 or whatever I rendered the platonics, archimedeans and catalans as) took about 10 minutes, can't remember. If there's some program for turning a mass of 24-bit colour images into an animated .gif, without user interaction, it would be more practical to make videos. Was going to make a program to crop the border, but didn't do that yet. Without using the automatic framing feature, will it render them all within equally sized unit spheres? (Perhaps a bit silly and pointless, but I prefer if they are all rendered identically like that.) I don't know whether or not me helping with rendering is useful - don't know if you have a supercomputer cluster or a 4.77MHz 80286 (might be what my first computer was)... (The new computer is an AMD64 3200+ (2211.087 actual MHz), 512 Mb memory.) Finding the coordinates of and rendering all 13 archimedean solids seemed like a lot of effort, and you just did 92 more solids somehow...
- There's no outright disgust about the infobox template, so I guess it must be rabid enthusiasm. Easier to edit is better, and after making 92 pages, I expect that you know more than me about ease of editing. Appearance was the same as before, I think (haven't looked carefully for details). As for making extra image links or having variations, think I've seen something like boxstartsomesectioninfo about somethingnextsectioninfo about next thingboxend, or something like that, with a rather broken-up template. Κσυπ Cyp 20:21, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Been busy too. Annoying how real work gets in the way sometimes.
- I was doing smaller (5122) renders as I didn't see much point in going bigger - more upload bandwidth, more wiki server storage and resize overhead. On my mac (G4 1.25GHz x 2 IIRC) they are pretty quick, and it is easy to run several instances of it (from a shell) then go away and do something else. They only use about 2 MB RAM each, so they don't thrash. Actually some of my renders were done on a much slower machine - 300MHz or 350MHz - while I was working on something else. I cheated a lot with the coords - you provided most of them (there are something like 13 variants of the rhombicosidodecahedron). I just wrote workable macros to cull vertices, cull, offset and twist half-spaces, add caps (pyramid/cupola) and the optimise() routine to handle the sporadics. I felt a couple of times like diving in and making the growing mess of code more elegant, but this desire never reached ignition point.
- The easiest way to convert a stack of images down to a gif is ImageMagick (under linux or similar). However, I think animated gifs really suck for this sort of thing - inefficient and no playback control. A proper movie format compresses better and would mostly render in browser with playback controls. mpeg is handled by most players, and ImageMagick can encode (or mpeg_encode). I think ImageMagick will even crop for you.
- Yes, on skimming the template spec I saw that there were some hacks to make optional sections work - I couldn't see much sense in it so I kept away. What is really needed within the templates is "#ifdef foo ... #fi" and "#ifndef bah ... #fi". The benefit of the template is the ability to make uniform changes. In the end I was not editing those pages anyway - they were coming straight off a spreadsheet. I have to go back and hand-edit things like symmetry groups and relationships between Jn's. I also will go through and tidy load of uniform stuff some anonymite dumped on every page at the 3/4 complete stage instead of either (a) waiting until I had finished or (b) putting on the Johnson solid page - oh well.
- Finally I don't care much about bounding spheres, but they make sense if you are rotating. My autoframing basically ignores them. Have you considered rotating on an axis of symmetry so that you only need a fraction of the frames? Andrew Kepert 01:38, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

4D rotations using quaternions
Hi... regarding 4d rotations with quaternions, do you have any references for the following formula, or in general, using quaternions for 4D geometry?
Thanks, Alem.
- I saw it on a web page somewhere, don't remember where. I've edited the article to add a proof that it they can represent 4D rotations, although I haven't proved that all 4D rotations can be represented that way (although they can all be). Κσυπ Cyp 14:11, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
- That equation is the standard double covering of SO(3) by SU(2). Most books on special relativity will review this, as will books on group representation theory. The bit about 4D is also covered in texts dealing with the symmetries of planetary orbits. There are two SO(3) symmetries of planetary orbits, the "obvious" one, and another one that leads to various invariant orbital parameters. Its a special case of the Poincare group; searching for that will give more info.
- BTW, I don't understand why people still use quaternions for rotations when SU(2) is so much cleaner and more elegant ... can this be explained/clarified somewhere, e.g. in the quaternion article? Is it just historical accident? (the computer graphics people seem to be ga-ga over this). Is there something special about the algebra? If so, then why not use the dihedral group, or one of the other algebras with oddball signatures? What's the appeal? linas 17:22, 20 August 2005 (UTC)

- Strange - your namings are consistent with the linked images. Apparently they are just weird names. I would have expected a "dodecahedron" named object to have 5-fold symmetry, but I guess it implies a rhombic dodecahedron.
- Dual of "truncated cuboctahedron" is a "Disdyakis dodecahedron".
- Dual of "truncated icosidodecahedron" is "Disdyakis triacontahedron".
My source book ("The Geometric Foundation of Natural Structure: A source book of design", by Robert Williams) names them differently:
- 4.6.8 is called a "Great Rhombicuboctahedron" and dual V4.6.8 is called a "Hexakis Octahedron"
- 4.6.10 is called a "Great Rhombicosidodecahedron" and dual V4.6.10 is called a "Hexakis Icosahedron"
- The archimedean solid and catalan solid articles mention the alternate names, and so do the references. I agree that the names are weird, but I didn't name them. Κσυπ Cyp 06:03, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Please place the images on topic pages (galleries) or put the images directly into a category
Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries) or put the images directly into a category, or do both. To find good categories for your images, the CommonsSense tool may help.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files here: 1 Gallery Thank you. --gildemax 14:58, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Polyhedra images
Hello! In the past, you did some nice images of polyhedra which I'm using for the article de:Spielwürfel (Dice) in the German Wikipedia. When you scroll through the article (I don't know whether you can read German, but it's just about the pictures ;)) you will see that for some of the more obscure dice there are no schematics. Could you be bothered to create them? I hope to get the article featured in the German Wikipedia (and maybe translate it later to replace the inferior English one) and completeness in images would be very useful in achieving this goal. If you are willing to help, I could supply an English list of the missing polyhedra, of course. Traitor de 18:04, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Image:Ln_.png - Values on the axes?
Hi Cyp!
I am trying to improve on the Danish article regarding the natural logarithm. One planned improvement is that I am looking for is a nice graph of the ln(x) function (I'm afraid I'm not that talented that I can make one myself). Then I looked for a graph in Commons and found your Ln_.png graph.
I can see this graph is used in several articles concerning the natural logaritm. I am however, a little hesitant because it is not clear from the graph that, e.g., . Would you consider adding that to the graph or perhaps make another one, which has values on the axes?Slaunger 21:01, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Mainpageieupsidedown.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:Mainpageieupsidedown.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. some questions about steganography

Element orders versus conjugacy classes
I noticed you added a table of element orders to Janko group J1 and Janko group J2. There are a couple of problems that were easily fixed for J1, but present more difficulty for J2. The primary problem is no original research and citing sources; you need to give sources for the information. The secondary problem is that the tables are more useful if you don't lump different types of elements of the same order together; instead display the sizes and element orders of the conjugacy classes.
For J1 this is easy to fix because the classes having the same order differ in very simple ways (5A is just 5B^-1, 10A is just 10B^-1, 15A is just 15B^-1, and 19A = 19B^4 = 19C^2). In particular, they all have the same size. This information is stored in the character table of the group, so is available in the book called the ATLAS, is available at the online atlas, specifically on a page such as the J1 page, and is available through software such as CtblLib.
For J2 the conjugacy classes for orders 2, 3, 5, 6, and 10 come in two radically different types (and some of those types split into two more classes like for J1).
I think it is probably better to include conjugacy class information in the articles, because it is easily summed to give the order information, and can be sourced easily. For J1, I made this change unobtrusively, but for J2 such a change would mean rewriting the table. JackSchmidt (talk) 20:53, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like you are already working on this for the Mathieu groups. I'll check for power equivalence on the two smaller Mathieu groups and check the situation for the two larger ones. JackSchmidt (talk) 20:56, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- For M11, 8A = 8B^-1, and 11A = 11B^-1.
- For M12, 2A and 2B have different sizes (396 and 495), 3A and 3B have different sizes (1760 and 2640), 4A and 4B are not power equivalent, but have the same size, 6A and 6B have different sizes (7920 and 2*7920), 8A and 8B are not power equivalent, but have the same size, and 11A = 11B^-1.
- For M22, 4A and 4B are different sizes (13860 and 13860*2), 7A = 7B^-1, 11A = 11B^-1, and the other orders are single classes.
- For M23, 7A = 7B^-1, 11A = 11B^-1, 14A = 14B^-1, 15A = 15B^-1, 23A = 23B^-1.
- For M24, 6A and 6B have the same size, but are not power equivalent, 7A = 7B^-1, 14A = 14B^-1, 15A = 15B^-1, 21A = 21B^-1, 23A = 23B, and here are the orders and class sizes:
M24 Order Size [[ 1, 1 ], [ 2, 11385 ], [ 2, 31878 ], [ 3, 226688 ], [ 3, 485760 ], [ 4, 637560 ], [ 4, 1912680 ], [ 4, 2550240 ], [ 5, 4080384 ], [ 6, 10200960 ], [ 6, 10200960 ], [ 7, 5829120 ], [ 7, 5829120 ], [ 8, 15301440 ], [ 10, 12241152 ], [ 11, 22256640 ], [ 12, 20401920 ], [ 12, 20401920 ], [ 14, 17487360 ], [ 14, 17487360 ], [ 15, 16321536 ], [ 15, 16321536 ], [ 21, 11658240 ], [ 21, 11658240 ], [ 23, 10644480 ], [ 23, 10644480 ] ]
- Looks like M12 and M24 would be difficult to annotate with only one row per order. M11 and M23 are easy, M22 is probably fine. JackSchmidt (talk) 21:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think the tables with the ATLAS link should be fine as far as sourcing. I like the idea of having the tables rows being conjugacy classes, but with similar rows "grouped" somehow. I don't know much about table formatting, but I know some people can make really pretty things. I'll leave the tables as is, but feel free to mess around with them. Scott (the main sporadics guy) probably has some opinion too; he is very interested in the groups as concrete things, so he might want to split them up by how they act on some geometric figure or something. Let me know if you want me to crunch any data, or explain why conjugacy classes are better, or whatever.
- BTW, I was just scanning your old talks, and found Truncated dodecahedron quite funny. JackSchmidt (talk) 21:39, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Here is how I would do it:
- List classes that are not power equivalent on separate lines
- List power equivalent classes together on common line
- Make far right-hand column to give cycle structures
- Possibly delete factorization of orders to make more room. Our elements have orders that are pretty well known, none greater than 23.
There is a problem with M11: it has representations of degrees 11 and 12, or you can call it a group of degree 23, with orbits 11 and 12, as it is represented in M24.
M12 has a peculiarity: an outer automorphism that transposes 2 classes of 4-elements and 2 of 8-elements. Scott Tillinghast, Houston TX (talk) 22:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Are truncated dodecahedra related to echinoderms? If so, they would probably be related to us vertebrates. Scott Tillinghast, Houston TX (talk) 22:40, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- I think there could be some relation... Κσυπ Cyp 21:14, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

- The new M24 table with rowspans and cycle structures looks very nice! Thanks to both of you. JackSchmidt (talk) 19:09, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know what cycle structures are, but glad the table looks nice. (When I added the first table, I didn't know whether it was relevant (since I don't know much about groups), I just realised that some of the groups were small enough that all the elements could fit in memory. Seems it got a lot more interest than I was expecting...)
- Tried installing GAP, and making a table (see Talk:Janko group J3), but it's probably easier for someone who has more experience with GAP. Κσυπ Cyp 21:14, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Rubik 4x4x4
Hi,
I've read the article on the Rubik_Revenge 4x4x4 cube. I disagree with the quoted number of configurations. I think it should be divided by two. Are you sure the 24 centre cubelets can be arbitrarily permuted? I have constructed a Strong-Generating-Set representation of the group and I cannot construct odd permutations of the centre cubelets only. Actually, the article says "An odd permutation of the corner cubelets implies an odd permutation of the centre cubelets, and vice versa". In my opinion, that means that once we have chosen the corners configuration (one of the 8! * 3^7) then we know whether the corners configuration is even or odd, and hence we know whether the centres configuration is even or odd. That is, there are 24!/2 possibilities, and not 24!, as it is stated right now in the article.
Do you agree with that?
Thank you very much in advance, Jmmartingarcia (talk) 06:31, 2 August 2008 (UTC).
- Hi,
- I think 24!/2 is the right factor (after fixing the corner cubelets), if all the centre cubelets are distinguishable. The number of distinguishable permutations given is 24!/(4!6), assuming centre cubelets of the same colour are indistinguishable, and the odd/even factor of 2 should be included in that 4!6. Κσυπ Cyp 21:22, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi again,
- You are very right. I now agree with the number, though I still find the explanations in the article somehow confusing. For example, if all cubelets were distinguishable, all permutations in the group would have even parity (this is a generic feature of the NxNxN cubes with N a multiple of 4) and so the sentence "even and odd permutations are indistinguishable because of identically coloured centre cubelets" does not seem appropriate to me. But this is less important...

License for Image:Nflash.gif
The image Nflash.gif is a candidate to be copied to the Wikimedia Commons. When you uploaded this image, you licensed it for use under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL). On behalf of the Wikipedia and Commons communities, thank you. However, the GFDL requires that reproductions of the image (and any other GFDL-licenced works), must be accompanied by the full text of the GFDL. The GFDL is intended more for documentation and not images, so downstream re-users may be hindered by additional restrictions of the GFDL which may not work well on the use of one image.
Before I copy this image to the Commons, I wanted to ask whether you would be willing to multilicense your work under an additional license, such as a Creative Commons licence. Creative Commons licences, such as the Attribution Share-Alike license provide a similar copyleft permission to the GFDL, but without some of its requirements such as the distribution of the licence text. All you need to do, is place the additional license tag alongside your current license. Users can choose between which one they want to use the image under. There are many free licenses accepted on Wikipedia and Commons which can provide freedoms similar to the GFDL, but without some of its requirements.
You are under no obligation whatsoever to alter the license. Doing so merely cooperates with those members of the community who believe that multilicensing your work can ease the reuse of images outside of Wikipedia.
If you use a GFDL license tag which requires distribution of Wikipedia's general disclaimer (indicated by "Subject to disclamiers" in the template), it is also suggested that you switch it to one which does not apply them.
Whether or not you choose to dual-license your work, thank you for your consideration.

Undecidability
Hi Cyp,
I know your recent edits to halting problem were in good faith, but I'm afraid you've fallen into a common trap of confusing two entirely separate (though, admittedly, somewhat related, which is why it's confusing) senses of the word undecidable.
In the relevant sense in the article, it is impossible for it to be undecidable whether a single program halts. Proof: Let P be a program. It either halts or it doesn't, even if we don't know which. Write two programs, YES and NO. YES prints out "P halts"; NO prints out "P does not halt". Since one of these programs correctly says whether P halts or not (even if we don't know which), it is not undecidable whether P halts.
I think you're conflating this sort of undecidability with the sort where, say, a formal theory T proves neither its Goedel sentence GT nor the negation of that sentence. But that's different. In the halting-problem context, there is no fixed formal theory in the background — the undecidability involved is a matter of Platonic truth. --Trovatore (talk) 18:25, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Poly.pov
A tag has been placed on File:Poly.pov requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip [i.e. a Word document or PDF file] that has no encyclopedic use.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Simulated annealing code
Hi I think I checked your pictures of the simulated annealing scheme a couple of years ago and the source code was available for download. I can no longer get to it. Was it removed on purpose or has it been lost in some update? Thanks luis (lborruel@yahoo.com) 87.216.123.153 (talk) 18:37, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Gaussian_integral#Higher-order_polynomials
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaussian_integral#Higher-order_polynomials
Hello,
Do you have any references for the formula given (or the general technique of using series approximations of Gaussian integrals)? Would you happen to know what aspect of quantum field theory involves these integrals? I searched a lot for these things, but the terms Gaussian and integral are so general that I'm not getting anywhere without more specific information.
Thanks in advance! --Xeṭrov 01:24, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know any references for the formula, but it follows from the definition of Γ, using :
- and expanding in terms of gives
- .
- Path integrals are usually gaussian integrals or similar. Κσυπ Cyp 18:28, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for explaining this. It looks like approximations are in order, but it's good to know that there is an exact formula. --Xeṭrov 22:47, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
- What happens to after the "and expanding [...] in terms of" line? I assume the sums come from the infinite sum expansions of . Is it possible to expand so each term is just a product of expansion terms? --Xetrov 01:54, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry, that wasn't supposed to be there (if it was there, the j would be added to the terms), as in:
- If also expanding the term, then all terms would be of the form . If expanding the term but leaving the term (with , then the sum would not converge, due to growing faster than . Κσυπ Cyp 02:04, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO MUCH.
- I needed a series expansion for this very integral, but besides that page there isn't anything online anywhere about it, and whenever I tried to prove it I ended up summing divergent integrals, as you mentioned. I am curious if this formula does in fact exist somewhere. The page lacks references and could use one for such a complicated and difficult-to-verify formula.... But I'm no wikipedian...24.22.53.72 (talk) 06:18, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Change license of File:Dodecahedron.gif ?
Hello. I'm an amateur video maker and I'd like to use this animation...
I understand you are the author and copyright holder. Would you be willing to change it to a CC-BY or even a CC-Zero/public-domain licence? I'd be willing to pay you for your trouble. --Billpg (talk) 07:13, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. Are you sure you need a different license on the animation, to use it? It's already under CC-BY-SA, which means you can use it already (as long as whatever it's combined with is compatible with CC-BY-SA). Κσυπ Cyp 15:47, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
- Its the SA part. I often use clips that the copyright holder has only allowed me to use. Other times, I simply won't want to CC my own work. (PS, [5] That one is CC-BY-SA.) --Billpg (talk) 00:00, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
- I saw the [6] video, it seems original. I'd rather not change it to CC-BY, but I'll give you permission to use it (and for you to release the combined result under CC-BY or something, if you want). Please let me know what you use it for. Κσυπ Cyp 17:28, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'll switch my 'Dartford Tunnel' video to CC-BY.
- I was thinking of using the spinning the dodecahedron as my motif. Like Alfred Hitchcock making a small cameo in each film, I would work in the dodecahedron in each one. If you change your mind, please ping me at my talk page. (If you will permit me to make an offer, I'd be willing to pay you
50 USD80 USD in return for you for switching that file's license to CC0.) --Billpg (talk) 21:57, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'll let you use it as CC0, and instead of paying me, you may donate to Wikipedia instead, if you want. Κσυπ Cyp 15:34, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. I appreciate it. --Billpg (talk) 19:01, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Permission request
Hi, there; I'm trying to reach Cyp.
I'm an artist trying to locate the original source of the rotating dodecahedron at http://www.jimloy.com/geometry/dode.gif. Yours at http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/73/Dodecahedron.gif is the closest I've seen, and I'm hoping you might know something about the source of the former one.
If so, I'd like to use the former one in a video project. However, I may try to sell DVD's of all or portions of the project, although I've never yet made enough money from my art to pay for my expenses -- my art is a labor of love, which I support through my dayjob -- but for that reason, although I'd be happy to provide a credit for the source of the dodecahedron, I'd rather not give a blanket license for others to use the video in which it's included (the video will be an hour long, produced with an incredible amount of otherwise unpaid work by myself and others, and the dodecahedron would appear for less than a minute). (In other words, the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unreported license would not work for me, since I may attempt to recover at least a portion of my hard expenses and perhaps maybe even a bit of payment for me and the others working on the project through sales of the DVD's.)
I'd greatly appreciate any info you may be able to provide about the source of the first dodecahedron referred to above. Pls feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you!Auralee (talk) 17:59, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. Sorry, I don't know anything about the dodecahedron the other person made, so there's no way I can give permission nor provide the source for it, either. You might have more luck if contacting the owner of the site directly (http://www.jimloy.com/email.htm). Κσυπ Cyp 09:47, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm notifying you of this discussion because you created some of the images in question. Note that I've also nominated them for deletion on commons. Mangoe (talk) 14:02, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. MadmanBot (talk) 23:26, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
- I guess I haven't had much time lately. Does replying to this post count as returning to activity? Κσυπ Cyp 16:30, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi
Take a look at Christina, Queen of Sweden as just one of several examples of Surtsicnas weird edit summaries and efit warring. He is edit warring on so many articles with several different editors.--BabbaQ (talk) 17:56, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, not agreeing with describing lesbians as "either male or hermaphrodite" is very weird on my part. On the other hand, edit summaries, even weird ones, are much more useful than reverting with no edit summaries. Surtsicna (talk) 18:06, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
