Help with deletion of articles

Hi Cyberpower678! I'm an administrator on the Faroese Wikipedia. We currently have almost 600 articles in our "Articles for deletion"-category. Do you know if there are any easy way of mass deleting all 600, or will I have to enter each article individually and click delete? iceley 04:40, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Niceley, use the Nuke extension. It's available at, fo:Special:Nuke. Alternatively, you can also use the BatchDelete extension available at fo:Special:DeleteBatch. But I believe, the latter requires the "deletebatch" flag. And FYI, Cyberpower is on a WikiBreak. --Ankit Maity «T § C» 08:54, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

XTools

Hey, Cyberpower. Is anyone maintaining the X Tools? The edit counter has been on the fritz on and off for the last month or more, and the outages seem to be growing more frequent. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:26, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

@Dirtlawyer1: I have spoke with Cyberpower678 offline, he informed me it's likely a WMF labs issue. — MusikAnimal talk 18:35, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the update, MusikAnimal. I though the Labs had taken over the maintenance of the edit counter some time ago. If so, it's clearly not been a priority for them for the last couple of months. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:41, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
The tools have been done all day today too. Can you communicate with Labs and alert them or give us an address we can contact?--Ipigott (talk) 15:37, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Ipigott, Cyberpower has barely been active for the last couple of months. I just pinged the other editor who is listed as maintaining the Xtools: [1]. Hopefully, someone will respond. If not, we may need to initiate a discussion and Village pump (technical) or the Administrators' Noticeboard to get some help. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 17:08, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Barely doesn't mean not completely. I'm aware of the issue. My attention is more easily grabbed if you email me, while I'm on break.—cyberpower ChatAbsent 17:12, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
 Fixedcyberpower ChatAbsent 17:15, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Duly noted, Cyberpower. In the future, I will ping you by email and advise others to do the same. Thanks for the fix. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 17:33, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
If it happens again, let me know.—cyberpower ChatAbsent 17:36, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Hey there, the counter is stuck. Anyone else to go to when you're not around (it looks like you're around a bit now, so I'm hoping ...)? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:37, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm wandering in and out right now. The oppose sections didn't have any # in them and were invisible to the bot as a result causing it to crash. One of many things that are going to overhauled on the bot.—cyberpower ChatAbsent 14:50, 10 November 2014 (UTC)

This is not strictly true. Ozzie10aaaa has posted basically the same question four times (one was quickly reverted because two of them were posted within a minute of each other) to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 132#revision history statistics, where three replies have been left. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:54, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Hoi Cyberpower
since today the error message doesn't come as plain text but as formatted colored table with following content

Meanwhile, I get a "No webservice" error. --AmaryllisGardener talk 03:19, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Both of them were moved to the new Trusty Webservice. It's not going to fix the fatal error you're seeing, but it's sure prettier and easier to read. I still need to figure out what's causing it. As for the no web service bug, xTools was running on a hack implementation of Trusty, until the bug was fixed moments ago, which apparently killed the hack. I've restarted the new service. They are both running Trusty now.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 03:29, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Majo statt Senf (talk) 02:16, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

The error may be related to whether the user has opted-in (using the opt-in Javascript option) or not. I was able to get basic information (with pie graph) using my username for es.wiktionary (where I was not opted in at the time) but once I activated global opt-in, using es.wiktionary started showing the same error everyone else is getting. I used another user's username and their en.wikipedia edit count data didn't show up but their en.wiktionary data did show up. Hope this helps! Bumm13 (talk) 07:58, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Bbb23, try using xTools for the time being. Super count is sunk for now.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 18:06, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Super count is sunk for now - yes, but not a particularly reassuring answer. Xtools is definitely NOT working and extremely frustrating for serious users who need it because it is the default tool. Can we have a genuine ETA on its repair? Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk)
I need links. xTools is working just fine for me right now, and I, believe, stabilized it.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 20:23, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Comment I'm not sure whether this is related to the above issues, but 'Top edits' (where you can isolate edits from other users on a certain topic) also doesn't work. It just brings up a blank page when you attempt it with any user. Tutelary (talk) 20:15, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Works fine for me. You need to give me links.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 20:23, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Could you do the reverse? Gimme a link that works for you? I may be inputting it wrong but I'm not sure. Tutelary (talk) 20:29, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
It's the first one I tried.cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 20:30, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
That works, but clicking any of the links for 'topedits' brings me to a blank page. Tutelary (talk) 20:32, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Now I see it. I'll have to debug it, and see what's going on. But Finals is among me. I'm planning on recruiting a new maintainer, to keep xTools running while I'm absent.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 20:37, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
What do you mean: you want links ? Just go to the top of any user page and click 'edit count' and you'll either get a blank page or a new page with this: "( ! ) Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 524288000 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /data/project/supercount/public_html/core.php on line 513" on an orange and yellow table. C'mon, I've been nagging you about this for months now. Finals or not, I think you have a responsibility to the 100s of thousands of db requests made at this tool and finish what you started when you took on the job of porting it to the ill fated Labs (which was not your fault) and redesigning the graphic display so that we can no longer paste the results in one click to an RfA - for example... Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 21:08, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
You may have the time, but I certainly don't. I can fix a tool whenever. But college won't wait for me, and quite frankly, I'm not paying $30,000 per year, to blow it off on Wikipedia. I understand you're frustrated among many others, but it's Wikipedia that got me into my RL mess, which is why I was on this Wikibreak. Electrical Engineering study is no job for slacking. I wish I had more time for Wikipedia, I really do, but college just won't let me. And this Fatal Error hasn't been going on for months now, but for days. I've had plans to expand super count, but I may kill it altogether, because I simply don't have the time. You know. you've got me thinking of retiring now. I'm obviously not able to fulfill the expectations of the community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyberpower678 (talkcontribs) 21:20, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
(edit conflict) FWIW, Cyberpower, I think Kudpung is being unduly harsh. We are all volunteers, and real life is more important than our work at Wikipedia. Do what you can when you can. If the community wants to find someone to fill your periodic absences, that's our problem, not yours.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:25, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
No, please don't. Just take your time, schooling is the #1 priority compared to the concerns of Wikipedia. What happens on this little niche site shouldn't be a priority for what happens in the real world. Tutelary (talk) 21:22, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Please don't retire. Wikipedia needs you. I agree with Kudpung that you bit off more than you could chew, but that in no way deserves the extemely harsh criticism Kudpung gave you (I somewhat agreed with what you (Kudpung) said at WT:RFA, but adding more harsh stuff to that and saying it on cyber's tp is going too far). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've heard of times when those over tools (like you) could sit back and relax after getting the tools up the first time. You never know when you'll have to cut back on your time at WP, because we're all volunteers, and we don't get a college degree or get paid for editing or making tools. But, to ease your stress, could it be possible to have someone in charge of the counter with you? --AmaryllisGardener talk 21:40, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately, Supercount has access to [2] DBs to run on their sites. With that, I can't let anyone else access to the tool.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 21:56, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Cyber, we always used to get on pretty well together, and I'm sorry if I came over a bit harsh. Sometimes RL gets in the way of WP - with me at my age its the hospital and I have to take a very short break now and again. As an Admin however, I'm subject to ADMINACCT and I have to be careful that barring being run over by a truck or kicking the bucket, I never leave any work unfinished. Take care, and good luck with your studies. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 22:05, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
PS: Do we really need Supercount? What we really need is just the good ole trusty pie chart and the monthly edit bars. If that's on labs, it should be easy enough for a young wondergeek to fix. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 22:12, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm just stressed out right now. So, I'm sorry for lashing out. Just yesterday I took the Certification exam for LABView, insanely hard, only 20% passed. It took a lot of studying, and fortunately, I am a Certified LABView Associate Developer. I did some digging, and I found the bug. It was a bug that only surfaced in the month of December, where a the date handler spins on to infinity until it ran out of memory. It's fixed, and supercount works again. The idea of supercount was to be more than edit counter. It was supposed to be a tool that can deeply analyze a user and provide a report, including an analysis of the users deleted edits, and many other ideas on the drawing board. With OAuth, the report could be printed on to a wiki with the click of a button. Sadly, time has been cruel. The advantage of supercount is that it functions as Orain's official edit counter, and that this tool works on any non-WMF wiki. It even has access to Orain's DBs, thanks to the staff of Orain.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 22:28, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

I’ve tried to do some research into his and what I discover is that we now have not two, but three edit counters and the confusion appears to be the way they are linked to.

  1. this is the one that hasn’t been working for days. Most times it just does not load at all. It’s what used to be the original default counter linked to from all the official tool boxes at RfA, PERM, etc, and on the top of every use page. It’s pretty good when it works (it always worked on the ToolServer), and it provides just the right kind of basic information. The only problem is that the pie chart is now on one page and the rest is on another.
  2. [3] this one is nice but it just provides far too much info for normal every day use. It’s great for someone doing some deep statistical research but it’s far more than we need for doing checks for RfA or assigning permissions or blocking someone.
  3. Super counter: I’m not sure now with all the talk about it, if I have indeed ever seen it.

I hope this helps. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:28, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

1 and 3 are the same.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 23:37, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Well that's the one that urgently needs fixing then and that i've been badgering you about for weeks. Probably all the links to it are broken. It also just needs its elements all putting back on one page. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:58, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
With the plans I have/had for it, putting all of that onto one page would've made it unreadable. Plus the OAuth addition of posting the stats to the page with one click of a button was what would have alleviated the copy paste button.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 00:01, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Left a message for Hedonil on the German site, but maybe I should have come here to this section. Page views on XTools has been iffy for a while. Sometimes it shows, sometimes it gives an error message. My only issue has been the page views. Right now, everything else has been taken off it and a fill-in-the-blank for page history is the only thing left. However, filling in the blank doesn't do anything, either. Hope this is a transition issue and that it's being worked on. You can't imagine how much I love the page views found on the XTools. — Maile (talk) 21:02, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

However, the "Pageviews" section, as it has for a very long time now, just has a link that says "bla" (I kid you not), and goes to This Page that is an image of a test pattern and says "Again something is messed up after Tool Labs database maintenance Sorry for that!
No db-connection" — Maile (talk) 21:42, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
I do not maintain that, so I can't fix it. Sorry about that.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 22:32, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Cyberbot II error

The bot blanked the page when trying to remove a {{Pp-pc1}} with this edit. Hope this helps. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 17:32, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

wikiviewstats

Hi Cyberpower. I've seen that you have help to take xtools online again after some tech issues, and I've read that one of this was "No db-connection" that is the same error that affect wikiviewstats (another tool where Hedonil is involved (like xtools) but unfortunately he's offline since long time ago. Are you able to fix this too? Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 23:20, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Can you provide a link so I can see what's broken?—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 00:39, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
I believe this is what he's talking about. --AmaryllisGardener talk 00:41, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm sorry. Only Hedonil has access to that. He never bothered to add me so I can't fix it. :/—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 00:43, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
In any case thanks for have taking a look at it. Just a curiosity. Hedonil a part, does anyone else is allowed to access & modify that code? --Andyrom75 (talk) 20:22, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Like I said, just Hedonil. Maybe given the circumstances, a lab, Corn perhaps can grant me access. I have finals this week, so I won't try to gain access to it this week. But I'll see what I can do after this week is over.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 20:34, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
It would be great if next week you could gain access. Thanks for your availability and good luck for your finals :) --Andyrom75 (talk) 09:33, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 17:27, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Cyberbot II is churning, churning.

The Cyberbot II bot seems to be cycling endlessly on many pages, adding and deleting and adding blacklist-link notifications. Stuartyeates first noticed this and helpfully reported it here. I thought it was only malfunctioning on the single page, but then I became curious and found it's much more widespread. For examples of what's happening, take a look at the edit histories of

...or any of the possible hundreds of other articles in Cyberbot II's edit history. Can anything be done to stop the edit-history-filling churn?__ E L A Q U E A T E 01:51, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Yes. Debug it. It looks like a some discontinuity in the page buffer variables. I plan to overhaul Cyberbots I and II next week.—cyberpower OfflineMerry Christmas 02:01, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. It looks like a helpful bot aside from that! __ E L A Q U E A T E 02:13, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Reporting Revert Error

Hello Cyberpower678. It appears that you have been erroneous in reverting an edit to [[]], where you may have mistaken an edit for vandalism or identified it as nonconstructive.

Below you will find information regarding this revision:
  • Edit Made: here
  • Description of edit: You recently reverted my removal of a deletion template from a very recent article. However, I was removing a template that I had added myself, after mistakenly thinking that the article was a hoax. After searching on my own, I was indeed able to find a source for the article's content, and added it myself. The original delete template was a mistake, one that I tried to correct.

Edit counters

Hi Cyberpower678, seems the edit counters are inactive again. Can you give them another reset? Thx, --Wolbo (talk) 23:59, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Any specific reason why this happens? Turns out even Supercount is dead. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:12, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
There's a high load on the tools. Eventually they run out of memory. As long as I'm active, a simple notification will fix this.—cyberpower ChatOffline 15:01, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Seems dead again. :( Looks like everyone is going thru their edits counts. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 13:50, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
yea,its non-functional--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 00:26, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Probably everyone is looking to see their edit count for 2014 prior to running for adminship. Joking aside, it's really time we got these edit counters fixed once and for all; there were never any problems when they were on the tool server. The move to labs was supposed to be a positive step forward but all we got were two disfubctional edit counters, none of which serve te purposes of those who really need them to go about their day's business, and user interfaces that are confusing and not enhancements on the old, trusted one that loaded in a couple of seconds instead of 10 minutes (if indeed they load at all). It would be good if someone with some programming skills could make these fixes their New Year's Resolution. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:59, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Not working. I'm getting a URL is not currently serviced error like I have for the past four hours. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 05:17, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Cyber, happy new year and thanks for re-starting Xtools again. At your convenience, could you take a quick look at the Pageviews section of the Articleinfo tool? It's been producing blank output for quite awhile, and might have better success calling Popularpages for the graph. Thanks for your consideration. —Patrug (talk) 09:01, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

Not having a dig, Cyber, but you are the only real live person who even bothers to listen, and, unfortunately has the programming knowledge to do something about it - or if there are others, where the heck are they hiding?. There a re a few other teeols that ugently need fixing. I've said enough times before that this labs tools idea was originally the fault of the Foundation who as always expects the volunteers to clean it up. Don't do it if you don't want to , Cyber, - like me you're just an expendable volunteer here, However, he volunteers are at r having agreed to in the first place instead of forcing the Foundation to spend its surplus of funds on its projects such as migration from Toolserver to labs. . I went down a similar route with the Foundation a few years ago on an education project they started but at the end of the day I had to get a team of 50 or 60 volunteers together to repair all the damage made by a project that the WMF had squandered literally millions of dollars on. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 10:26, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
It's the restrictive environment labs sets. With everyone the tools have to put up with, they constantly hit that limit and shutdown through crashing. I'm thinking of moving them to a new instance entirely, but that's complicated work. Perhaps even beyond me, but it might just permanently fix the problem we're facing.—cyberpower OfflineHappy 2015 13:36, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Then we need to find a way of lobbying the WMF so that they get things straightened out once and for all. One of the reasons for snatching the tools off the Germans was ostensibly to offer better hosting. So finding 3rd party solutions is not the answer. Please email me a list of the tools that people are 1) most omplaining about, and 2) what you and your collaborator(s) personally feel to be the most essential tools. I'll see what I can do. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 15:23, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Actually I meant moving it off of toollabs and to a different area of labs, where I can control my own resources. So instead of tools.wmflabs.org/xtools it would be xtools.wmflabs.org. I'm also looking for an experienced PHP developer, or two or three or four, to recruit to add to the list of maintainers for xtools. I'm a little picky at who I choose, because I want them to respect consensus and optin settings, not to mention be familiar with developing in PHP. I will recruit MusikAnimal to assist in restarting xTools as needed.—cyberpower OfflineHappy 2015 15:42, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Have you considered the WMF's IEG or something for this? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 15:49, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
What's IEG? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyberpower678 (talkcontribs)
Individual Engagement Grants - money from the Foundation to complete user projects that help Wikimedia. Xtools certainly does. There is an application process at the meta link. Rcsprinter123 (chatter) @ 10:02, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi Cyberpower678, best wishes, hopefully you will not have to spend all 2015 restarting edit counters but as they are non-responsive again a little nudge would be appreciated.--Wolbo (talk) 20:30, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

INFORMATION REGARDING XTOOLS

I'm please to announce the latest additions to xTools.

@Technical 13: Has been added to the list of maintainers, to help maintain the tools. He is very experienced in PHP development and will no doubt be a valuable asset to xTools.

@MusikAnimal: He has been recruited to restart xTools when needed, as he volunteered to do this when I'm not around.

Cheers, —cyberpower OnlineHappy 2015 15:38, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Good to see these steps taken to get the xtools back to a stable environment.--Wolbo (talk) 15:55, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
These sound very helpful, thanks! Just wondering, would it be feasible to program an automatic restart on a daily basis, to prevent those memory problems from accumulating for too long? —Patrug (talk) 16:28, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Patrug, as a new member to the project, I'd rather not see that done at this point so I can observe what is causing the errors better. My hope is to be able to fix the problem instead of hack around it. :) — {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 16:57, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough — thanks for the quick reply, and we'll eagerly await your findings. For now, everything seems to be working normally, except for the Pageviews section of the Articleinfo tool. As mentioned earlier, it's been producing blank output for quite awhile, and might have better success calling Popularpages for the graph. Feel free to have a look, at your convenience. Thanks again for your consideration, and welcome aboard! —Patrug (talk) 17:13, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
