Featured Content
Crisco, do you mind if I try to copyedit your Featured Content column to make it a bit tighter, which is the style used in Featured Articles? It's not terribly important, your work is fine, but I'd like to impress the academics and professionals who read the Signpost, if possible. No point in not getting everyone on board (to continue your metaphor from this week's column), if we can. - Dank (push to talk) 12:58, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- Go right ahead :-) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:36, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm guessing the only thing I'm doing that's going to be a little contentious (outside FAC!) is moving the articles around so that they're next to their images ... and then removing the captions that say "featured article", since it's apparent from the text right next to them. Of course, different people use different font sizes, but I've tried to set up the placement so that the text will be close to its picture for all the most common font sizes. (Most weeks it will be easier to get a placement that works for everyone; this week, the first image is particularly long, so it's hard to place the text for the next two pictures.) Another thing is a judgment call; feel free to revert this, but "X is a Y; a new featured picture" doesn't put the "featured picture" phrase next to the thing that's a featured picture, so I've tried switching that around. - Dank (push to talk) 18:37, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
- Looks good. BTW, if you want an interesting read try and check out Sudirman (no need to copyedit that one, but I think you'll find it something different) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:59, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

PR request
Hello Crisco, normally I wouldn't request for peer reviews but would you mind having a look at Wikipedia:Peer review/Arsène Wenger/archive2, which I feel is close to FAC. My main concern is with prose, so perhaps if you have the time to read it from top to bottom and make suggestions, I would appreciate that greatly, otherwise apologies for wasting your time. – Lemonade51 (talk) 14:53, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/S. K. Shrestha, part way through the discussion, a contributor (not the nom) attempted to bundle S.K. Shrestha to the deletion nomination. Your close didn't specify if you had determined consensus in regards to the bundled page, it wasn't deleted and has an outstanding AfD tag on it. I'm not sure how think it would be best to deal with it but as the closer I think its your call. Monty845 04:57, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, done. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:08, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Hello. I note that you closed this AfD as Keep after just two !votes with that rationale - one of which listed WP:JUSTAPOLICY and an attack on the nominator and the second of which claimed that the subject "played a powerful role in influencing and building the career of a highly notable entertainer", which is not a requisite for WP:NPEOPLE, WP:NMUSIC or WP:GNG and fails WP:INHERITED. This was coupled by a comment from an admin who expressed serious concerns about the notability of this article. The article has also been previously deleted as non-notable and the current incarnation cites unreliable blogs and Wikipedia itself as its sources. Are you sure that this was the right decision? SplashScreen (talk) 08:16, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- The references provided by The Devil's Advocate give enough weight to his/her !vote, while the admin's comment you describe as "serious concerns" were prefaced with "fairly well known", and a link to a pretty good source; i.e., not something I'd consider "serious concerns". — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:23, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- But those references are three trivial mentions in "unofficial biographies" of Lady Gaga which, as well as violating WP:BLP, focus solely on the subject's friendship and do not address the concerns raised in the opening nomination[1][2][3]. Being "well known" is also not a reason to keep an article per WP:LOCALFAME. I am slightly concerned that you have based your decision to close this AfD on one questionable !vote and one reliable source, when Wikipedia requires WP:CONSENSUS and non-trivial coverage from multiple, verifiable, reliable or independent sources to guarantee inclusion. SplashScreen (talk) 08:34, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- So in other words, with less shouting, you wish for it to be relisted? — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:35, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, but I'd also prefer it if you'd address the concerns I'd raised. It's still not very clear why you've decided to close the debate as Keep. And who is WP:SHOUTING? SplashScreen (talk) 08:37, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- Randomly bolding words counts as shouting on this page. I have relisted the article and given you my reasoning. There are two keep !votes and one comment, btw, not one and one. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:42, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- So you're still not going to address my concerns? SplashScreen (talk) 08:44, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- I consider my explanation clear enough. Your nomination was based on a lack of reliable, independent sources. Those unofficial biographies, although not approved by Gaga, fell under that. The Yahoo! source was also a factor, despite the user not !voting, as I already explained. I'd rather you not misrepresent the situation, which you have done twice in this thread alone. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:47, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Ortrun Enderlein DYK nomination
Hi: I've put back the reference on the hook point and covered the bare URL again. A translation of the key part of the German source is there in the screed I have wound up writing at the nomination page. Up to you (or anyone else who reviews it) whether it's acceptable, but I suggested the alternate hook because there is indeed no data on whether she was first - of either sex - to receive the gold medal in luge; only that she was the first woman to receive the gold medal in that sport. The article creator has suggested a smaller modification of the original hook but I thought that tended to diminish her achievement. Anyway, those issues are why it needs a reconsideration of the referencing - including a judgement of whether the German ref. needs to stay on that point. (Apparently the article creator would rather not use a German ref for the hook fact.) Yngvadottir (talk) 03:27, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

relisted article for Tonga National Tag Team
Hi Crisco,
Not many concensus on the page, and I dont think Those that have commented on deleting have not provided any good reason for deletion other than not notable. Even in the delection process it strongly suggests to consider other editing advice rather than delection. I have responded to their vote and also to that of the merge suggestion. Can we please have some closure. How can we do this, I have read and understood the policy and guidlines covering Notability. This article does not warrant delection.
I apologise if I was not meant to ask you - I thought you being independant of our history in this article you could help request a senior admin or editor to preside or assist in the closing decision.

- The photographs up to 1961 are public domain in Indonesia and the United States so far as there is not copyright notice on the publication. Photographs from 1962 to 1971 are PD in the US, but not Indonesia. Text and other stuff like that is, as a general rule, not. I could go into the actual laws, but as you say... waduh. There's a lot to cover.
- The good news is Commons only cares about copyright in the country of origin and in the US, so Aussie laws would have no effect. As Australia applies the Rule of the shorter term, I guess any photographs originally published in Indonesia before 1961 is PD in Australia — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:51, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I was wondering whether you'd consider reviewing this article. It needs an independent and experienced reviewer, and I've asked both LauraHale (who said no) and (two days ago) Orlady to consider taking it on, with no luck. Following up on Plate armour
Following up on Plate armour, It was clever to check the site registration date (I'll have to add that approach to my toolbox). I like how you added the note to the talk page. However, it occurs to me that while that site is new in Dec 2007, it is not inconceivable that they had material on another site, and decided to move to their own. I think it is worth an email to the websmaster, suggesting that either they research the history of their material, and if it predates ours, we will promise to clean ours up, but if their material was copied in part from WP, that's fine, but would they be so kind as to add the attribution notes? If you would like to email them (contactmedievalwarfare.info) go for it, if not, I will, or tell me if you think I am missing something (for example, you have other reasons to know the material was new to their page in 2007.)
Thanks for the nice work, hope you will do more. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 14:56, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
- Based on the page history at plate armour, it looks like it was increased bit-by-bit (no text dumps or anything), but I'll drop an email later. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:15, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Bishop
Is looking good, I might have a few more comments eventually, but that's all for now. The paragraph that I was thinking about when I mentioned neutrality is the second of Post-revolution, the first three sentences anyway. And maybe the first sentence of Legacy. I'm not sure they're non-neutral though, just keep that in mind if you read through them again. On another topic, do you think David Gonzales (Gay Minister/Pastor) qualifies for A7? I BLProd'd it but I think it might be a speedy candidate. Mark Arsten (talk) 00:27, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Looks like an A7 to me. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:31, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Considering he was essentially continuing he pre-war work, I don't think it's too bad. Changed a bit. The legacy sentence is pretty much what it says directly in the source, and Prior is writing as a more-or-less objective foreign observer. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:37, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

- Library :-D Aside from something like 20 images of Sukarno and his family, I've gotten free images of numerous people we didn't have free images of. The public domain status is weird, but sold. Two hours at the library results in close to 100 usable images... just have to format them and whatnot. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:17, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Pretty impressive, sounds like a lot of work. Mark Arsten (talk) 01:28, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

deletion of poljot strela article
Why was the poljot strela article deleted. It was nominated for lack of importance or significance, and in the talk page I replied that while wikipedia doesn't seem to define how to judge the importance or significance of the subject of an article, that the poljot strela is significant, as it played a role in the soviet space program, it was used by their military, and it is popular with watch hobbyists for various reasons. The page appears to have been deleted with no discussion. Why was it deleted, and how is the importance or significance of the subject of an article judged?TeeTylerToe (talk) 07:56, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- The article needs to make a credible claim of importance, which is why it was tagged. It was a borderline case and as such I will be glad to restore it for you, but I strongly suggest working in your user space to add reliable sources that show the subject's notability. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:16, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- It has 6 secondary sources. That appears to meet wikipedia's notability requirements overwhelmingly.TeeTylerToe (talk) 18:04, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

De Hirsh
I note you posted a suggestion at the top of my De Hirsh Margules page. Is it normal to post suggestions in a way that damages the appearance of the page?
Also, I do have many non-link citations. Some of the citations are to biographies and other text materials that only appear in web format. There are also places where I have used both a text citation and a link. I will review my citations to see what can be done better. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AdrianLesher (talk • contribs) 13:35, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Removed the double post. Those tags are to notify readers and editors that an article may have a problem, such as unformatted web references. I put it there to facilitate the use of a tool we have for filling those in, and have removed it now. You may be interested in Wikipedia:Template messages, which explains the use of these.
- Also, it should be noted that nobody owns articles, they belong to the community. For example, if there were an issue with a featured article, like a typo in Courageous class battlecruiser, you could fix it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:51, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
I understand that I don't own the page, though I guess at this point I nonetheless have some pride of authorship since I wrote what is currently there, with the exception of some minor edits. Thank you for showing me the proper way to document fair use of photographs. The page looks much better with the portrait at the top. I note that the bot used for fixing citations itself makes numerous mistakes, some of which I fixed. AdrianLesher (talk) 19:19, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's not perfect but it gives a rough idea of how to format the citations. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:49, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi. As an active participant in DYK discussion, if you have a minute, can you drop by Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Number of Olympic hooks per day? and offer an opinion on how to address this? I'd rather get it dealt with sooner rather than later as I feel like the sheer volume will require a discussion as all people involved in building prep areas will need to be aware of whatever decision is reached. --LauraHale (talk) 21:27, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

I have merged all the verified content to Demographics of Filipino Americans, see change here. The only content supported by a RS that was not added was from this editorial article, as it talked about old immigration rates. The specific sentence is:
Its geographic confines contain as many as 275,000 Filipinos (2000 Census) and receives an annual amount of 4,000 new Filipino immigrants.
New content regarding the 2010 population of Filipino Americans in Hawaii is already included in the target article, and in an article that is specifically about Filipinos in Hawaii.
I have left a redirect in its place, in case there are other articles which contain a wikilink to the article that was subject to the AfD.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 09:05, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Please Userfy Bill McNutt II to my sandbox
Please move the article, history and talk for the just deleted Bill McNutt II article to my sandbox at User:Doctree/sandbox/Bill McNutt. I still have the article open in another browser window but don't want the article talk and history separated by pasting it to my userspace. I was doing a massive edit to try to save the article. I found some reliable sources from before Mr. McNutt's death to establish notability as well as more details to expand the article somewhat. My apology for not making some incremental edits to show improvement before you had to act on the WP:AfD. I was researching sources, adding and populating a {{person}} infobox, adding citations in both a browser window and text editor. I failed to save anything before the deletion. I discovered that I was too late when I tried to save my edits.
If you choose to not userfy the deleted article to my space, please know that I intend to create a new article about Mr. McNutt with proper inline citations to reliable sources.
Please answer here on your talk (no need for a talkback). I'll watch your talk for a bit. Thanks, DocTree (talk) 03:26, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Feedback on Deleted Page
I'm fairly new to Wikipedia and the policies, guidelines and specific coding are all pretty overwhelming to me. I created the page Josh Ruxin which you deleted for copyright violation. Even though I had permission from Josh, and the organization that posted the info, I understand why it was flagged. I recreated the page without the exact content from the website -- would you be able to provide feedback on my revisions? Any guidance is appreciated as I don't know how many more online forums I can dig through. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MaryLRobbins (talk • contribs) 12:13, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- A couple quick comments:
- Per WP:BURL you should expand the references to include more information. If the links go dead that allows us a better chance to rescue the references.
- You should look for independent, reliable sources about Mr. Ruxin, to show notability.
- If Mr. Ruxin or the copyright owner has granted permission for the text to be released under a free license, they should read this page and can send a Declaration of consent for all enquiries to the OTRS Team. That way there the text can be used directly on Wikipedia. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:16, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Possible other articles that might need protected
I noticed that you protected some articles such as MNC International against the IP editor from the 180.241/251. I have been trying to revert some of their edits and appreciate the article protections that have recently popped up. Here are some other articles that might need protected: NTV7 and Singapore Cable Vision that should both be kept as redirects, HBO Asia, Sensasi, VV Drama, TV Alhijrah, RTB1, National Geographic Channel (Asia) and MAX Asia. I also noticed that now that some of their favorite articles are protected they are also starting to hit film articles, building articles and soccer/football broadcasting rights, the only one so far that has been hit more than once is 1998 FIFA World Cup broadcasting rights. I do not know if it is possible to block the entire range, since it could be quite large but it is starting to look necessary. Aspects (talk) 05:36, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

I looked at your cleaning of the Mammoth Records article (at CP, where you asked for a review). Bottom line, looks good, although my review was not in depth. I was briefly concerned (seems to be a theme) when I saw that the Mammoth Records Logo had been removed, and I see it in the current version, I wondered if the cleaning accidentally restored it, but the one removed was a jpg and the current one is a gif, so different files. I don't see any compelling reason why the history of the page needed to be deleted. Please Look
TheTimesAreAChanging removed this..
On June 26, 1986, the Sandinista government temporarily suspended the publication of La Prensa citing an oped in the Washington Post by La Prensa editor Jaime Chamorro which sought to rebut the arguments of members of Congress who were opposed to the $100 milion in Contra aid. Chamorro also claimed that there were 10,000 political prisoners in Nicaragua but these assertions were dismissed by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Vice President Ramirez informed Human Rights Watch that the decision to suspend La Prensa's publication could be reversed under the condition that the paper clearly dissociate itself from the United States policy supporting the Contras.[1][2] "La Prensa's editors..lobbied for continued U.S. funding of the Contras, never acknowledging their human rights violations," the Council on Hemispheric Affairs observes.[3]

- Honestly, I think that section still needs more trimming. It is roughly a quarter of the article right now. We should use summary style, and this is going into too much detail for this particular article. User: Amb04
Hello
I would like to notice that Amb04 who is same user:banimustafa is trying to delete info from article Ayasrah cause it was kept after bad faith AFD.
recently he used a new sockpuppet called: user:Amb04 to nominate article Ayasrah and here I would like to point out that Banimustafa is under restrictions of only having one account (see Bwilkins' comment here), but the Sockpuppet investigations shows that he really use a sockpuppet but unfortunately no action taken.
I had a disputation with him about the content of article Jerash, and it was solved by DRN (look here please). But he didn't like the way it was solved, he just want to force his point of view.
I would like to note that user:Banimustafa has been blocked for sockpuppetry (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Banimustafa/Archive) and Banimustafa has accused me of sockpuppetry (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Historyfeelings/Archive), an accusation that did not result in a determination that the accusation is true. And he keep accusing me of sockpuppetry until now with same words same circumstances.
Banimustafa has a history of vandalisim; user:Wakwakwiki is a banned[16] sockpuppet of Banimustafa,[17] who has his own history of blocks[18] user:soufray is a banned souckpuppet of Banimustafa.
Kindly have a look at his contributions, he even uses same templates in my user page!!
what should I do? he want to lead me to an edit war with his sockpuppet. thanks a lot.--HF► 17:51, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
FUR & images
Regarding your comments here[19] Were would I add the necessary licence for either image? I believe the usage of the Poster in support of Mukti Bahin would qualify under fair under the Non-free use rationale guideline as an illustration of the topic. Darkness Shines (talk) 07:35, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Per NFCC criterion 8, there needs to be in-depth discussion of the image or subject of the image to establish contextual significance. Neither non-free image has that. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:38, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- So if I expand the article to include the types of images used during the conflict then it would be OK? Darkness Shines (talk) 08:08, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- That would likely be out of SCOPE. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 08:19, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Not really, it would go into the section I am writing for the rebels. The lede also needs to be expanded according to comments made so a mention there would also increase the articles scope. Posters used during the war to help with moral and recruitment are an integral part of any article on a conflict. This one specifically is on the role of women during the conflict, there is another in the same style which depicts a man. Darkness Shines (talk) 08:59, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- I had also hoped to use this image of a newspaper article in the army actions section, would that be allowed? Darkness Shines (talk) 09:15, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Going into in-depth detail on a particular poster or on how women were represented in propaganda would probably go out of scope, if just a little. We are generally not allowed to use press images under fair-use (see UUI #7. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:30, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- What if there were a subsection for the media depictions section? Like images and slogans used? Re the newspaper image from the BBC, would it be allowed if I were to use a copy of the original? Per NFCI #8 which would also cover the poster I think as it is an iconic image also. Darkness Shines (talk) 10:47, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- And keep it only regarding rape? Difficult task. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:59, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

DYK nomination review request
Hi. Can you consider reviewing Template:Did you know nominations/Purnima Mahato? I worry it won't get reviewed because the article features an Indian and the article has an Indian writer attached to it. I've written 95% of it. I've repeatedly warned the 5% writer not to add anything uncited into the article and said if they introduce copyvios, it will not appear on the main page. They wandered into the IRC help channel, which was why I did this article. --LauraHale (talk) 11:40, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Regarding ACG Colleges Group wiki page
Hi Crisco. I'd like to know why you deleted the page and what are the steps to bring it back. I have read what dramatic said back in October 2010: "All I can find by searching is promotional material sourced from the company, and trivial passing mentions. Nothing substantial, independent and in a Reliable source. Hence, while some of the individual (secondary) schools may merit their own article, the company which owns them fails our notability standards."
Dramatic failed on perform the proper searching. Also, to talk about our schools is to talk about us. We are the same thing: ACG is a group who owns all these schools. If your schools are approved by the Ministry of Education means that the Group was approved as well.
Grant me the opportunity to set a clear reference stating that we have more than enough credentials, backing our notability.
For example:

- I cannot find the article you are referring to, but you should note that the CSD tag under which it seems to have been deleted is more for how it is written rather than the notability of the subject. If a new article read "Dave Chappelle is the funniest man this world has ever seen. He makes everyone laugh all the time with his insanely funny jokes..." then it would be deletable, despite the subject being notable. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:49, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
- Mr. Crisco you deleted the article. I want to know the exact reason for that (G4?), having the "how it is written" is not much of an answer. I also want to know how can I restore the article in the proper way, and please next time put a warning notification so we can fix the problem. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Starjim (talk • contribs) 23:17, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Was it G4 or G11? G11 is defined as "Pages that are exclusively promotional, and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic. Note: An article about a company or a product which describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion. "Promotion" does not necessarily mean commercial promotion: anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organisation, a point of view, etc. See WP:NOTPROMOTION for the policy on this.", while G4 is the recreation of previously deleted material. If you have a link to the article it would be much easier for me to help you. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:21, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- I've scanned the deletion log and I've never deleted anything related to ACG. I classified ACG International School Jakarta for WikiProject Indonesia, but that's it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:28, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- The article was deleted, I can't find a previous copy of it anywhere (that is why I'm really concern on restore it).
The ACG wiki article was here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Academic_Colleges_Group&action=history

- et me know please. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Starjim (talk • contribs) 00:55, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Denofgeek.com as a noteworthy source
I'm not sure how much it counts for, but I've noticed that The Guardian have taken to including a weekly review aggregation piece to their Saturday edition, compiling reviews for a film, a play, an album, etc, each week; among the sources they use is denofgeek.com (mostly for films), alongside the likes of The Independent or Q. I guess it's not a lot of recognition but it's better than nothing. If you're still not convinced then I can easily remove the site from my current Twin Peaks FAC, but there are other articles I plan on working on which make more use of it so I'll still be keeping an eye out for its citation in other sources like this. Also, while I'm here, is there anything you're currently working on aside from ?? I'll get round to having a look at that one today for you hopefully. GRAPPLE X 15:06, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Nothing really hot in the queue right now. Oerip Soemohardjo is still at A-class, Sudirman is waiting on a GA review, and Albertus Soegijapranata is waiting for ? to finish. My most recent good creation, Fakih Usman, doesn't have enough variety of sources for FAC (sadly). I'll take a peek. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:09, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- Do you have a link to Guardian quoting a Den of Geek review? That would be good for the FAC. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 15:12, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
- I couldn't find it on their site but I could probably scan the article to email to anyone who wants it. It cites their coverage of The Dark Knight Rises. GRAPPLE X 15:16, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
