SVGs with small nominal sizes
Hello!
I've seen that you sometimes upload SVGs that have a very small nominal size. Please consider making them closer to 100.000 pixels (0.1 megapixels) instead. If the logo is completely circular then it's about 316 pixels in height and width. You can also use this tool to compute if for you. Thanks!Jonteemil (talk) 20:00, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

The article Jim Farrell has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Subject meets the notability requirements for a politician, but the article has nothing but directory level information. DuckDuckGo returns far more hits for someone completely unrelated, so the prospects of this being expanded seem grim (I invite someone to prove me wrong on that).
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Gymnasts
Hi Connormah - hope you are well. Following on from this thread I've recently created a few articles for British gymnasts, where previously we only had an initial+surname, but now Olympedia has their full bio. Please let me know if there's a cache of other similar biographies that could be created, and I'm happy to get stuck in with it! Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:40, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Lugnuts:, thanks for the heads up! The only thing I can add in addition to the 1908 team members is that there is some new data for most of the British members who were missing info who participated in the individual event as well: Gymnastics at the 1908 Summer Olympics – Men's artistic individual all-around (though they already have articles). The 2 redlinks at Gymnastics at the 1948 Summer Olympics – Women's artistic team all-around have also recently been identified. Thanks again for your work. Connormah (talk) 12:40, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- No problem and thanks for all your work on this too. Always great to see A. Smith (dates unknown), for example, becoming a full bio! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me
- Always love amazing research such as this and this! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 10:30, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
- @Lugnuts: - thanks for the kind words! Hopefully more to come in the future. Connormah (talk) 03:37, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Len Vella moved to draftspace
A biography article created 11:11, 24 July 2020, Len Vella, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. My bad, common sense failure on my part — to my recollection, I'd seen that template on every article I've come across where the subject had recently died. I did partially add it in anticipation of a possible spike in editing activity, but I still should have double-checked the documentation first. --Dylan620 (talk) 23:18, 13 November 2021 (UTC)

Ken Draper
Hi @Connormah:, hope you're well. I added some additional sources to the Ken Draper page the other day. Annoyingly I have all his bio stats via a mixture of Ancestry, FindAGrave and travel records (which also list family members mentioned in the newspaper article about the death of his brother, so it all links), yet I can't find a juicy enough newspaper source on Newspapers.com to tie them altogether that would satisfy Wiki standards. Can you please have a look at the Canadian newspaper archive if you get a chance? He was born Kenneth John Draper on 7 Oct 1918 in Winnipeg. He married Irene Margaret Wilton in the 1940s, and he died on 10 Sep 1983 in Carman, Manitoba. Seems he was a farmer in Carman after his football career and he was also a high school football coach. How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Ilves Logo.svg
A tag has been placed on File:Ilves Logo.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 05:38, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Request for advice on getting government portraits
As I regularly edit and update the U.S. military list pages (alongside users like KingEdinburgh, Maliepa and Neovu79), I recently sent several requests to the U.S. Army Public Affairs Office, U.S. Navy Public Affairs Office, and the U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) Public Affairs Office for high-definition military portraits of several past general/flag officer personnel. Most of these personnel had images on past versions of their websites on The Internet Archive website, but with no saved linked image. All such requests, after 2-3 weeks of being sent, went ignored. I am uncertain if this is due to bad luck or simply low likelihood of being responded to (I live in Singapore, not North America; location should not apparently affect requests like me).
May I ask what tips you have for requesting official U.S. government portraits by email? Such as which emails to ask in my case for the military, email format, introducing yourself as a Wikipedian and manner of requesting? I assume they are filed under an FOIA request, but as a Wikipedia contributor and not a journalist/reporter (which FOIA request guides are often tailored to), I have little idea how to frame such an FOIA request.
I understand you do not swiftly entertain queries, but this one is made so I, like some users I have seen on your talk page, will not have to make requests of other users for it. I look forward to your response. SuperWIKI (talk) 10:58, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- P.S.: I searched your archives, and (unless I did not pay enough attention) I could not find any similar requests such as this, hence me asking now. Additionally, I can email you images of my actual email requests to the PAOs, but want to be certain you are fine with it (even with you linking to your email on your user page) before I send them. SuperWIKI (talk) 11:00, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI - Is there a specific time period in which you were referring to in terms of requesting/looking for these portraits? I believe that most pre-1982 are held by NARA; we had a NARA employee here who helped out for a limited few years back when the NARA GLAM project was active, but unfortunately I have found that trying to get anything from there without paying a reproduction fee from one of the independent researchers is a lost cause. See this section and the one below, or here for more background discussion. I do have some NARA citations saved for a few photosets in case an opportunity arises to either go there myself, or there becomes a way to obtain reproductions for use on Wikipedia, though I'm not too hopeful. Most of the original negatives and prints from most military officer portrait sessions (most in color) are held there in a few specific sets. As for contacting PAOs, I did also do that at one time using the mothod you described, and found it to be pretty hit or miss. Usually I was just referred to NARA or DVIDShub (when it was called DefenseImagery), but sometimes they had some things that they passed along. I have found that is very much piecemeal in terms of finding these kinds photos in different places (autographed photos for sale on eBay or historical auctions as well), rather than in one place, which is a bit annoying. Connormah (talk) 15:20, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- The time period? Most of them come from about now, with the Army portraits I'm requesting basically being higher-def ones than the one on the General Officer Management Office site. I'm pretty sure these exist - compare this one with the identical one on the U.S. Army Europe and Africa site. However, several of them come from early-mid 2000s (and I was planning on requesting some 1990s one if the PAOs got back to me), including a portrait of LTG Edward G. Anderson III as deputy commander of NORTHCOM. I couldn't find the Archive link, but there's an Anderson portrait with flags identical to this one, making it more recent than this 1998 photo. I can give a more complete summary, but that would be too long (again, I have screenshots of my request lists in the emails). Based on your uploads, I'm also assuming Congressional offices get back to you more often? SuperWIKI (talk) 15:37, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI, interesting, I didn't know of that website. I am thinking that there could be some way to go into the web code and get the high res images, but I'm not entirely sure how. The high res images definitely exist, likely back to the 1990s as the photos dating back then seem to have been taken with digital equipment. It does seem like a bit of a wild goose chase to locate them, though, and I don't believe that 1990s-2000s are at NARA yet (though I could be wrong). For example (using an earlier example once again), I am quite certain that there are color portraits of most officers dating back to the 1950s, just that nobody has really bothered to scan the negatives at NARA. Congresssional press staff are usually happy to provide images for use here, though it would be nice if past portraits (both chambers have their own photographic/graphic service) were archived somewhere online for future use. Connormah (talk) 19:34, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Connormah So in terms of emailing military PAOs, I shouldn't expect too much? Which ones, if you notice a pattern, tend to respond most often with the photographs? And if possible, how would I format an FOIA (or otherwise) request to the PAO in terms of language, as a Wikipedian, and how to present myself properly in this specific context? Secondly, unless I'm misunderstanding what the ARC catalogue is, do you have a link to it? Perhaps searching myself could be of use. SuperWIKI (talk) 08:41, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

- P.S. I would like to thank you for your effort in getting many military portraits from your contact at NARA in 2011 when you did. It makes the jobs of users like us much easier, especially with regard to lists. SuperWIKI (talk) 08:45, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI - my experiences with contacting the PAOs was that the online forms that you are sometimes forced to use are a bit hard to fill out for non-US residents, which I am also. If I recall correctly, I tended to have a bit better results with command historians, but the info is sometimes harder to find. I pretty much just specifically laid out what I was looking for (high resolution, color portraits of xyz in xxx insignia, taken by an military photographer) and for what they would be used for. I think "command portrait/photo" might be the technical term for them, though I am not 100% sure. The ARC catalogue is the NARA online catalogue, though I believe the URL has changed. A decade or so ago, I had some luck with e-mail requests to the still pictures unit and they would mail me photocopies of some of the prints they had, along with the archival citations/accesion numbers (see 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 for a few). So in theory, if somebody had time to go into the reading room with a print and negative scanner, we could get some pretty high quality images to use here on Wikipedia for many military bios circa 1950-1980s. Connormah (talk) 06:18, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
- For those forms, the difficulty for me is that even if you send it with your email address attached, it doesn't appear in the "Sent" folder of your email. This means I have no way of knowing if the PAO actually received it. SuperWIKI (talk) 06:23, 11 April 2022 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI - yes, that is what I've experienced too. Sometimes you can try and find a direct e-mail address for them, which sometimes yields better results. Do keep me updated if you are successful, though! Connormah (talk) 15:52, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

Ways to improve Roger Pilote
Hello, Connormah,
Thank you for creating Roger Pilote.
I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:
For any individual (including therefore any diplomat) who meets the WP:GNG or WP:ANYBIO criteria, we presume that an article about them is merited. When the person is alive the requirements of WP:BLP also apply.
Individual sources must be evaluated separately and independently of each other and meet the four criteria below to determine if a source qualifies towards establishing notability.
- Contain significant coverage addressing the subject of the article directly and in depth.
- Be completely independent of the article subject.
- Meet the standard for being a reliable source.
- Be a secondary source; primary and tertiary sources do not count towards establishing notability.
The guidance given in WP:NPOL is Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability. Other criteria (given above) must be available for notability of this person.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}
. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~

Assisted suicide v. euthanasia
Thanks for the edit at Deaths in 2022. Some folk fail to recognise that human euthanasia is illegal, while some forms of assisted suicide are borderline legal. So we should never used the E word for humans in the Deaths pages. Well done. Ref (chew)(do) 15:49, 8 September 2022 (UTC)
- Refsworldlee - yeah, I didn't really want to kick up a hornet's nest over it, but felt that term was a bit out of place for a human entry on the RD page. Do we have a consensus for a term to use for these deaths, like "traffic collision", etc? I don't seem to recall a discussion on the talk page, but am not as active there as you are. Perhaps that might be a good idea as these types of deaths might start becoming more common as it is legalized in more jurisdictions. On this occasion I only went off what was listed for Mark Fleischmann back in July (the only other recent one I could recall based on memory). Connormah (talk) 15:55, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

Dole logo request
Hi Connormah, I saw you uploaded the last Dole logo and was hoping you might consider adding the new one to the Dole plc article. I uploaded the file at File:Dole Foods Logo Green Leaf with Shadow 2018.jpg and I believe I have checked all the appropriate boxes with it. I was working with another editor but there was some concern about what the right place to upload the logo was, so I thought I'd come to you since you did the last one. Please let me know if everything checks out here or if you have any other questions. Thanks in advance for your consideration. WG at Dole (talk) 21:04, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Email breakthrough on 11/10/2022
Connormah, having been advised to update you, there has been a breakthrough! An archivist from NARA agreed to search the non-digitized archives for official portraits so long as I only send 3 names per month. I plan to start with List of United States Army four-star generals and List of United States Army lieutenant generals from 1990 to 1999. Do you have any names from your old GLAM list that you need urgently? SuperWIKI (talk) 00:14, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- My three names are Gary E. Luck, J.H. Binford Peay III and either Larry R. Ellis or Robert W. Sennewald, depending on your preference. SuperWIKI (talk) 00:45, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: - Oh, that is great news! Regarding Sennewald, I did get the 3-star portrait ditigized when I requested a search through the still pictures e-mail address at NARA, so I suspect that is the only one that they have (unless the four-star one is buried in another accession/set of records). Off the top of my head, it would be nice to get the high resolution color versions USAF four-star Maurice A. Preston (if a portrait exists, if not, of the existing photo), Army Gen. John J. Hennessey or William E. DePuy (his photo is orginally in color - there's a version here but with text overlaying it). In general, I think that there is a good chance there are color versions of 1960s and 1950s photos (the original negative for Orval R. Cook was apparently in color, but we never got to digitizing it), so there seems to be some potential there as well. Connormah (talk) 03:11, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'll take note of it for next month's order. It's Larry R. Ellis, not Larry E. Ellis in the earlier message; have fixed it. SuperWIKI (talk) 03:13, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Connormah: As you have expertise on these, here's a few specific things I'm quoting from the email. Could you perhaps advise me on whether there's any "hidden meanings" that could temper my expectations?
- - We "do not have any current plans to systematically scan official portraits".
- - "according to the Military, graduates’ formal photos, both individual and group, were taken by private local commercial photographers and offered for sale at the time taken. Unfortunately those items never became part of official military records nor were they retained by the commercial photographer(s) responsible for shooting the photos."
- - "you are welcome to submit three names per month and we can conduct a search among our non-digitized records." SuperWIKI (talk) 03:30, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: - Hm, that actually sounds like what I've received from NARA in the past, actually. I was able to submit three names and they sent by post B&W copies of what they found with individual vendor info in order to order reproductions. I think I only received the few digitized ones during the worst of Covid when they apparently didn't send anything by mail. Connormah (talk) 14:43, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Send by post? I hope the NARA agent understands that as a Singaporean, sending to me by post will be a hassle. It wouldn't be an issue if I owned or rented my own house, but at 19 with an independent income years off, my family members won't be too pleased that my research ends up throwing baggage on them. I mean, an overseas governmental body sending me documents monthly? Aside from worries of scamming (which it isn't), overseas mail will prove irritating.
- Is there a professional or formal way I can explain this to them so they're more likely to send digital scans over? Me explaining this above will probably receive the polite version of "this is a you problem". I mean, we have an opening now and I don't want to squander it. SuperWIKI (talk) 14:53, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- @SuperWIKI: - I'm not quite sure honestly, as it's been a while. I do not live in the US either and they did mail things to me in response to my e-mail queries, which they also limited to three per month (I was not charged for anything, but it seemed quite inefficient). The copies were like the one photo on Preston's page, with the image citations and all, but no high quality scans or digitizations, those seemingly could only be done by paying an independent researcher (or going there in person and doing it yourself). We did have some helpful users from the GLAM Wikiproject years ago, but never really got traction and that seems to have fizzled out. Connormah (talk) 19:31, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- How long did the whole process take each month? I sent them the names two days ago. As for Preston, the quality here I can live with, since most current images are 2400x3000 pixels in size. SuperWIKI (talk) 02:45, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- SuperWIKI - It took several weeks, if I can remember correctly. I sent a few batches, but I think they just stopped replying to me after a point. Connormah (talk) 17:47, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:03, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
