Edit summaries
[edit]Hi Cognissonance,
Earlier today you reverted some of my edits on the article Horizon Zero Dawn, for no apparent reason. Assuming good faith, I think that was not intentional and I've redone my edits.
What I do find inappropriate, are some of your edit summaries. Coincidentally we've also edited the article Resident Evil 7: Biohazard recently and I noticed some of your edit summaries on the article's edit history.
- January 29: "not duplicate you idiot"
- Also January 29: "fucking grammar"
- February 1: "grammar fucking"
- February 12: "fucking add sources that confirm your claims"
- February 20: "I hate all of you"
- February 21: "fuck off"
Calling someone an idiot is a clear violation of WP:NPA, while "fuck off" can also be seen as a personal attack. While Wikipedia is not censored, I see no reason to use the word "fucking" in an edit summary. I'm not sure if you're doing okay, because less than a week ago you changed your user page to "I hate it here". Maybe you're going through a rough time, but don't forget Wikipedia is a collaborative effort. Wikipedians like you and me voluntarily edit articles. The occasional vandal or anonymous user that is not familiar with editing guidelines might make a mistake or add something inappropriate, but I doubt they'll ever read your edit summary, let alone think it is meant for them. I hope you just had a bad day and that edit summaries like that will soon be a thing of the past.
Kind regards, soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 12:15, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Review trade?
[edit]Hi Cognissonance. Thanks for your edits at Jill Valentine. If you weren't aware, the article is currently nominated for peer review. I've noticed you have Resident Evil 7: Biohazard nominated for GAN. Would you like to trade reviews? I'll review RE7's nomination if you provide comments on Valentine's peer review. No worries if you're too busy or not interested though. Freikorp (talk) 13:59, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Freikorp: Was indeed aware. Already started the peer review actually. Doing minor edits as I descend. Won't be long now. Cognissonance (talk) 14:07, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
- Awesome. I'm going away for the weekend so will probably start my review on Monday. Let me know if you'd rather me review one of your other GANs, otherwise I will go with RE7. Freikorp (talk) 14:17, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
- Noted. I think going with Resident Evil 7 is most fitting. Cognissonance (talk) 14:30, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

I'm always keen to trade reviews. I've just nominated a biographical article nominated for FAC. See here. Considering reviewing an FAC can take more work I'll happily review 2 of your GANs in return. Naturally I'll go through with this regardless of whether your review ends up supporting or opposing my nomination. But as always no worries if you're too busy or not interested. Freikorp (talk) 11:49, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
- Not up for a review right now. Cognissonance (talk) 11:58, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
@Freikorp: If you need review trades in the future hit me up. Biographies may be out of my league (wrote most of Joss Whedon, which is not GA-worthy), but otherwise I'm fine. Cognissonance (talk) 03:35, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
- Sounds great. Freikorp (talk) 03:45, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
Hi Cognissonance. Jill Valentine is currently nominated for FAC: see here. I would really appreciate your comments on the nomination. It has a lot of support but it had a lot of support at the previous nomination and it still failed pretty much because of the concerns of one editor who has some rather unusual opinions. In return for your comments, regardless of whether they support, oppose or are neutral, I would happily review another one of your articles. As I've noticed you don't currently have anything nominated at GAN I'd be happy for you to just contact me the next time you do and I will review it immediately. Cheers. Freikorp (talk) 03:07, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Freikorp: I hope my support wasn't too weak to actually count. I had read through the article before you asked me and the only thing that stuck out were additions concerning you-know-what. Anyway, now that I'm high on pain killers, it occurs to me how much I want The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to reach GA status. All I need is for someone like you to tell me what is missing from the article, searchable information that I can find sources for. I will ask the Guild of Copy Editors to smooth it out as well. Cognissonance (talk) 20:51, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
- It's all good. The coordinator removed the opinionated part of your comment but kept the support itself, which is all that matters to me. To be honest, I'm quite overwhelmed with how many comments the FAC has gotten in the last few days, though I would be very happy to provide a review of The Witcher 3 once things have quietened down a bit at my nomination. Cheers. :) Freikorp (talk) 02:55, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Freikorp: Thanks for that. I noticed the flood of comments, completely empathise. Take your time. Cognissonance (talk) 09:38, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

Archive.is
[edit]Cheers for archiving more sources at RE7. Just letting you know as per this guideline, with Archive.is it's preferred on Wikipedia to use the long link as oppoed to the short one (i.e http://archive.is/2016.09.11-065720/http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/gaming/704399/Resident-Evil-7-Ethan-Resident-Evil-7-Demo-release-date-Biohazard as opposed to http://archive.is/gzhkc). There's a bot that will eventually change the short links to long ones, but if less ones get made it will help reduce pressure on its backlog. :) Freikorp (talk) 02:48, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Freikorp: The short link is the only one that appears in the url box. How do I find or make the long links? Cognissonance (talk) 03:20, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
- Oh right, so if you click on 'share' at the bottom and slight right side of the beige coloured banner it will give you the long link among other information. Freikorp (talk) 03:24, 31 May 2017 (UTC)

Citations
[edit]You do not need to include the publisher when referencing periodicals. Linking to the work is enough since the work's article will identify the publisher, which in such contexts is not a major detail. It is more relevant when referencing a book (e.g., Yale University Press). I had taken publishers out of Dunkirk but saw that you added one for the runtime reference (which I appreciate you doing, by the way; was in a hurry). Dunkirk
[edit]Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Dunkirk (2017 film) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Dunkirk (2017 film). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. IJsselmeer
[edit]Dear Cognissonance. The IJsselmeer is a naturally formed North Sea bay, formed by surge floods and rising sea levels in the Middle Ages. It is not artificial. So why revert to false information? Kind regards, Encyo (talk) 17:38, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Encyo: That is what the source says, simple as that. Changing it to "lake" to stop this back-and-forth editing. –Cognissonance (talk) 17:45, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
- It is a rather unique situation, a bay closed off by a 32 km long dike. There simply isn't a proper word to describe it, not even in Dutch. We use meer (lake) for lack of a better word, even though it is not a 'proper' lake since it is not surrounded by land. But I'm glad the 'artificial' is gone since that implied that there was no lake before man made it. Encyo (talk) 18:18, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

[edit]On 18 September 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Dontnod Entertainment, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Dontnod Entertainment. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Dontnod Entertainment), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Replaceable fair use File:DougCockle.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:DougCockle.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Train2104 (t • c) 23:34, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
Vampyr
[edit]@Cognissonace: “We tend to say we have a semi-open world, which in fact is an open world. Read more at https://gamingbolt.com/vampyr-interview-lead-designer-florent-guillaume-tells-us-everything-about-in-game-weapons-loot-factions-and-more#QTp0uoWkiP5HZRfX.99” The developers contradict themselves by stating this. The game cannot be both open world and semi-open world. A source where they call it open world and only only open world is needed. The other two sources also call it semi-open, and there’s an agreement that semi-open does not mean open world.Dohvahkiin (talk) 01:09, 30 September 2017 (UTC)

Life Is Strange: Before the Storm
[edit]Hello:
The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Life Is Strange: Before the Storm has been completed.
There is one minor issue I cannot resolve. In para 2 of the plot section the text says: "After the play, they decide to leave Arcadia Bay with the newly repaired truck..." so it appears the truck is fixed. In the 3rd para it reads: "Chloe contacts Frank, who agrees to meet her at the scrapyard. She repairs the truck there before Rachel arrives." This implies the truck was not fixed until this point. This contradiction should be resolved.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Image without license
[edit]Unspecified source/license for File:Normand Corbeil.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Normand Corbeil.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (Talk • Contribs • Owner) 11:01, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Normand Corbeil.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Normand Corbeil.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hello, Cognissonance. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Watch Dogs 3, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Soundtrack for Dunkirk
[edit]Thanks for your editing at Dunkirk. In the absence of a main article for the soundtrack to this film I had added a short quote on the reception for the music in this film in the Music section. This was done in the thought that eventually this section will be split into its own article, only when a sufficient number of cites accumulate in this section. Should the cite I added be kept, or some version of it, in contemplation of an eventual split into a stand alone Soundtrack article for the film's music? JohnWickTwo (talk) 03:38, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- @JohnWickTwo: I'm not sure it is necessary to make a separate article, only because the pertinent information is already in this article. Cognissonance (talk) 04:00, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Translation
[edit]I would be happy to translate this article for you. What exactly would you want me to translate? The 3-line title and 2-line text? Best, L293D (☎ • ✎) 18:11, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- That's OK, L293D, Google Translate worked fine. There were just some confusing bits that I thought could be clarified, but weren't. Cognissonance (talk) 18:24, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Reception section
[edit]You can add "copy-pasting quotes" to any reception section. It's not wrong. The wrong thing is that negative reviews are nearly equal as positive reviews. They show up as if the game received mixed reviews. That's why I want to add them. Also, "mishandling the historical and thematic allegories" is only can be seen in a few reviews (maybe one or two) but it is shown as a consensus. Is that right? Sebastian James (talk)
- Around five, actually. Copy-pasting long quotes is inappropriate. If a criticism or compliment recurs twice or more it should be mentioned in the lead as part of a "general agreement" (or, consensus). I read through the reviews, paraphrased what they said, and didn't embellish anything. Not my fault the reviewers wanted to air out so many frustrations. Cognissonance (talk) 09:42, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- I didn't know that there was a rule like this for video games reception. Thanks for the info. Sebastian James (talk)
