Your contributed article, Japanese Invasion of Batan Island

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Japanese Invasion of Batan Island. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Battle of Bataan. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Battle of Bataan – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. reddogsix (talk) 01:31, 19 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese invasion articles

[edit]

Hi, I notice that you have created a number of articles on rather minor Japanese operations during the invasion of the Philippines. I would suggest that it might be better to combine all those articles into one, so that you can make a more substantial article than these little stubs (that probably will remain little stubs forever, given the paucity of sources). That way you may avoid that somebody proposes them to be deleted (I see that one of the stubs has already been tagged for lack of notability). Just a suggestion... :-) --Randykitty (talk) 13:31, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ok, thanks. I will do that, once I figure out how to combine articles. Also, I won't be able to do it over the coming weekend, more than likely. Thanks!

Cnd474747 (talk) 19:00, 21 March 2014 (UTC)Cnd474747[reply]

  • It's not difficult. First, think up a good title for the combined article. Then, create that as a new article and merge the text of the separate articles into it. Once that is done, you replace the text of the stubs with #REDIRECT [[XXX]], with XXX being the new title of the merged article. Hope this helps. Happy editing! --Randykitty (talk) 19:19, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Takao Maru, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Japanese (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). re:Invasion of Scandinavia and German invasion of Denmark (1940)

[edit]

Hi Cnd474747. Well, let's take this point by point:.
Point 1: Interwikilinks in the text of articles are the very essence of counter-productiveness. Why? Because they lead readers to believe we (English-language Wikipedia, that is) have articles on the subject, when we don't. Instead they lead people to non-English article which most readers probably won't be able to read. As for the links with the "ugly red color", those are WP:REDLINKS, and are a vital part of the Wikipedia project. Redlinks tell us that an article is needed, and when said article is written, the links become blue. We even have lists of redlinks with lots of hits, which eventually, get written. It's all a work in progress.
Point 2: As for the "nonsense" bit, I understand it might sound harsh, but it's true. Not only is the article written about a non-existent concept (which you called a "common name"), but almost every single bit of info in the article is incorrect. Hence, nonsense article.
Point 3: Yes, it would be nice to have an article on Scandinavia/the Nordic region during World War II, but that's not what the article you created was about. It stated that there exists a concept which doesn't exist and listed various (mostly incorrect) things, and that's not really helping with the coverage of the Nordic countries during World War II. I firmly believe that an article will be written on "Nordic countries in World War II", in the future. When that article is written, it will cover the area in an appropriate manner, if written well, with good sources.
Point 4: Of course I removed it from the articles, as it was clearly counter-productive having links to it. There's no point in adding dubious tags in cases that are as clear as this one. Manxruler (talk) 22:13, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Status and Advice

[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I do not suggest you delete the article, but rather use it as the basis for expansion into "Scandinavia in World War II," as Manxruler suggested. Would you like me to move it for you, and set up the correct subheadings? I certainly would not say that what you have done is at all nonsense--I would never say that about any well intended contribution. It's just incomplete, I will delete it as your have requested, but if you change your mind and want to work on it, just let me know on my talk page. If you need any additional help, just ask me for it. DGG ( talk ) 01:41, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, that would be nice. As far as I could tell, User:Manxruler said the page was "unsalvageable", but it would be nice if you could move it there. Thanks.Cnd474747 (talk) 01:44, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Before I do that, let me suggest that I move it to Draft space while you work on it. It will take a while to make a good article on a topic as broad as that, and this will give you a few months to do it. Make use of the articles "Denmark (etc.) in WW II," and see WP:Summary style. DGG ( talk ) 05:45, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Where is Draft space? Sorry, I'm kind of new to this. Thanks, Cnd474747 (talk) 19:56, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Draft space is fairly new itself. It's a separate compartment from "Mainspace" where we have the articles, and it's designed for this purpose. It can't stay there forever, but it can stay for at least 6 months. The deleted article is now at Draft:Invasions in Nordic Countries during World War II where you can work on it. If you decide not to continue, let me know, and I will delete it. If you improve it enough that you think it might be suitable for mainspace again, let me know that. In either case, inform me on my user talk p., not here, so I will be sure to see it. DGG ( talk ) 05:52, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Charlotte, North Carolina

[edit]

hello,

I believe the article has been improved keeping a limited number of the businesses and references. As your edits did not actually undo any previous edit, the Undo with the revision number in the edit line is a bit confusing (WP:3RR and the like). Therefore some other edit text without the u-word would be appreciated. Inwind (talk) 06:22, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User:Inwind I would like to have removed the standard "Undo" text, but I wasn't sure if that was against protocol or not. And I always indicated that I had done more than just undo the text. Besides, undoing the edit made it much easier to do what I was trying to do, rather than having to hand-type out everything. Nonetheless, no harm intended. OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion

[edit]

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to List of World War II puppet states.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks!
