Failure to properly deal with vandals

Kindly update ClueBot's coding to automatically AIV report vandals when ClueBot performs a vandalism caution or warning within one day of an account being unblocked. Such an event is grounds for requesting AIV staff to examine the errant user's actions and reblock the account/IP User due to vandalism, if warranted. Wikipedia volunteers must manually report vandals, using such tools as Twinkle, which is certainly taking up our time.

Please see this warning to a user for vandalism, from ClueBot , exactly one year after a one year block was lifted in July 2010. The account has gone on to make several further vandalism edits, including today. Whatever you can do to lessen the workload of wp:CVU project staff will be appreciated by all. Archiving done gone crazy

Hey, wanted to call attention to something that was noticed yesterday at WP:ANI#Talk:Slipknot (band). A few months ago, a user left a comment on that talk page, but put it above the bot's archiving instructions. The next time it was time to archive, your bot swallowed up its own archiving info, where it proceeded to make sup-page after sub-page under where it was now located (diffs and links are at the ANI). Is there anything that could be done to the bot script to watch out for this sorta thing? Tarc (talk) 16:24, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

False positive reporting down?

Gives an error message when I try to put the ID in. -- ran (talk) 18:53, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism on my user talk page

If a user vandalizes my user talk page, can ClueBot revert it? Wayne Olajuwon chat 20:38, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes - you need to add the page you want protected here. Personally I don't - I wouldn't want a newbie accidentally reverted because of a false positive - but with ClueBot down recently I ended up asking at WP:RFPP for my User page (not my User talk page) to be semi-protected. Anti-vandal ClueBot permanently disabled?

It's been 12 days so far without activity from ClueBot 1, and I wonder if it is permanently disabled to make way for DASHBot?

  • If so, don't. Make it a midway between DASHBot and AntiAbuseBot somehow.

mechamind90 03:18, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

I second this concern. DASHBotAV is not doing badly, though I get the subjective impression that it isn't as sophisticated as ClueBot. VoABot II has been absent for a year. (Has it? It doesn't seem that long.) There are a few good new Hugglers around - Wayne has been doing sterling work - and IGLOO is becoming popular, but, you know, it's like the public electricity supply - we need nuclear power stations (bots) to handle the base load so that the gas turbines (humans) don't have to. Philip Trueman (talk) 08:16, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
The bot's hosting disappeared (was hosted by ACM@UIUC, but I am taking a semester off from UIUC, so they don't want to host it while I am not on campus, so I had to find somewhere else). I have found somewhere else, now, hopefully permanently, but at least temporarily. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 18:36, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
  • By the way, is the new host the reason why the mystery counter on the right of ClueBot's reverting summaries reset to zero? It went from 673412 all the way down to 2. mechamind90 03:42, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Yeah. I figured it wasn't worth it to transfer the massive database of logs, so I just truncated it and it started at 0. I'll get the FP reporting page up soonish. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 18:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
FP reporting is up. Also, you might be interested in the Live Vandalism Locations tool that I just put up as well. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 20:59, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
That's a really good anti vandalism tool Cobi. Thanks for that :) --5 albert square (talk) 21:14, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Old threads

I am looking at threads on my TP that haven't been archived in a while, I don't have the full time to look into the templating either. Just wondering what I need to fix. (it seems cluttered right now) -- DQ (t) (e) 02:31, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Oh and if anyone replies, if you don't mind TB'ing my talkpage, that would be nice. Thanks. -- DQ (t) (e) 02:32, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi, please read Cobi's posts above. The bots hosting disappeared recently so had a lot of 'downtime' I suppose you could call it when it happened and wasn't able to edit. Cobi has now fixed this at least temporarily hopefully permanently though it could happen again. If it does happen to you again I would suggest that you check the bots contributions, that will at least give you some indication as to whether or not the bot has been editing. If the bot hasn't been editing then there will be a reason for this and it is likely that is why your page is not being archived.
Hopefully it's resolved now though! --5 albert square (talk) 18:00, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Warning registered users

Consider [1]. Isn't it a bit lenient to go back to a level 1 when the last warning was a level 3 this month and the vandal is registered? Philip Trueman (talk) 01:24, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

There's 10 days between the edits. I wouldn't say it was ClueBot being lenient, I'd have done the exact same myself --5 albert square (talk) 18:12, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
For an IP, I'd agree with you. But for a registered editor? Philip Trueman (talk) 12:31, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

We've been having archival problems as we learn how to use the ClueBot Automatic Archival template. I've just made my latest revision to the implementation on that page. We'd like our topics archived with 10 topics to a page, but I don't see a |maxarchthreads parameter in the documentation. Is there not one? Why? Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 02:49, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

This is twice now the ClueBot III has archived everything on the talk page to Archive 1, leaving everything on the talk page as well and also ignoring the fact we're on page 3. Clearly we've got this set up wrong. Could someone take a look at it? Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 23:04, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Instance of subtle naughty vandalism: sample

Good day.

Over one-half hour ago, I found and corrected an instance of subtle naughty vandalism, here:

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=Microcomputer&diff=prev&oldid=392555973

The vandalism involves the string "Jack Kibble-White, Jack "Stand by for a Data-Blast", Off"...

Specifically, the undesirable string is "Jack Off", which has intervening useful content between the two words.

I am reporting this as an example of subtle vandalism so the Wiki bot programs can be programmed to recognize such, and correct it, or to at least alert a human editor. I hope this information can be used by the team of bot software maintainers to improve their programs.

I am an inexpert Wikipedia editor. I am not sure if this sample is worthwhile, or if this is a good place to post it. If not one of these, please tell me if it is unneeded, or where to post it.

Thank you for your valuable time. Jerryobject (talk) 08:01, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

sorry

i didnt realize adding "!!!" was vandalism, im sorry and i wont vandalize agian

This is a bots page and that is more of an editing test than vandalism directly Puffin Lets talk! 16:05, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

ClueBot III and Talk:Chappelle's Show

Resolved

ClueBot III (talk · contribs) keeps archiving discussions on Talk:Chappelle's Show into Talk:Chappelle's Show 1, as opposed to Talk:Chappelle's Show/Archive 1. From what I can tell, it's been doing this since June 2009. If anyone can figure out why and fix it, it would be appreciated. — ξxplicit 02:11, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

This is where it all started. ClueBot has actually been archiving it this way ever since automatic archiving was added to the page. Another user has attempted to fix this], but it's still not quite right. Needs a space at the end. I've added an underscore to force the space, since I don't know if ClueBot III recognizes a space at the end as an actual space. Perhaps it's not the right way, but at least it solves the problem. Reach Out to the Truth 21:05, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

bad archiving

Your bot is archiving the most recent discussion threads within few days of their being written.[2] Please make it not do that.·Maunus·ƛ· 01:09, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

I've multiplied your minimum archival time by 10. Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 03:17, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Request of ClueBot

Hi, I'd like you to please archive my talk page every month so I can have plenty of space in it. Thank you, Ian (talk) 21:33, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Ian
You might like to read this and go to the section of how to archive your page. This will explain how to set it up for ClueBot to archive.
Hope this helps! --5 albert square (talk) 22:06, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Erm...It does, but I don't get it. I want it to numbers, but I don't know how to do it. Ian (talk) 22:23, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Er, I don't understand what you mean? You "want it to numbers"? I don't understand that. --5 albert square (talk) 23:23, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
I mean, I want the archives like 1, 2, 3, and so on. Ian (talk) 23:49, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Ah I don't know how to do that I'm afraid as I don't know what part of the coding controls that. I can't work it out either. Sorry! Maybe someone else knows? --5 albert square (talk) 20:50, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Maybe, just maybe, the section labeled "Numbered Example"? -- Cobi(t|c|b) 20:24, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Exclusion compliance

I notice that the userpage claims that User:ClueBot is exclusion compliant, but if that's the case then why/how was this edit made? VernoWhitney (talk) 04:05, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Any bot operators listening? VernoWhitney (talk) 17:11, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll see about fixing this. Seems it was omitted when I went from index.php to the edit API. -- Cobi(t|c|b) 20:26, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. That would be much appreciated. VernoWhitney (talk) 20:30, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Redundant month headers

I am seeing Cluebot adding a header for the current month after one already exists. Is that something that can be fixed or just something we have to live with? Jojalozzo 04:25, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
