If you'd like to test what Wikipedia can do, check out the sandbox - just type and save the page and your text will appear. That's the beauty of a Wiki.

For more information check out our tutorial - it's designed with newcomers in mind, as is the help section. If you'd like to get involved with current projects, have a look at the Community Portal. There are always tasks for users to do, ranging from copyediting to expanding stubs.

I hope you'll enjoy your time here, but be warned, it can become addictive! Feel free to message me, I'm more than happy to help. As an added tip, sign any message you post so users know that you've said it. To do so is delightfully simple, just use the wikicode ~~~~.

Once again, welcome!

You're very welcome. Believe it or not, a vandal like that is refreshing to see, once in a while. He's a vandal who's kind enough to send me a big orange message at the top of my screen every time he vandalizes! tv316 22:55, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IPA pronunciation

[edit]

Thanks very much for your help with pronunciation of Fedor Emelianenko. There are some other Russian biographies I've tried to get pronunciation information on. Could you help with Alexander Alekhine, Garry Kasparov, and/or Veselin Topalov (Bulgarian, but is it much different?) Thank you again! --Ryan Delaney talk 04:21, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again! The pronunciation of "Alekhine" is still very bad in the west, even 60 years since his death. I'm sure there are many more Russian people biographies that could use IPA pronunciation information, so I greatly encourage you to do more of this, although I will no longer pester you. :-) Let me know if you need anything I may be able to help with in the future. --Ryan Delaney talk 17:02, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Enswell.jpeg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

I'll try putting a sign of needed citation/reference instead of removing unsourced context in the future. Thanks for pointing it out! Sometimes I've got a bad habit of deleting rather than waiting for sources to show up. --Marcus 18:41, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cutman nomination

[edit]

I came across Cutman while looking for an article to copy edit, and was impressed enough to nominate it as a good article. I did a little copy editing of the article itself and I don't think it actually needs the {{copyedit}} tag any longer. That said, because you added it to your own article and because I'm no authority on grammar, I've left the tag there for you to remove when you're satisfied it's no longer needed. I'm simply drawing your attention to it because it could have a negative effect on the outcome. People making snap judgements based on the placement of tag, without checking who placed it, is an unfortunate possibility. BTW - nice user page, I must get around to making my own some time. Anyway, good luck! ИΞШSΜΛЯΞ 17:39, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some Article Requests

[edit]

Hey buddy,

I recently found and read your article on the cutman and it was an awesome resource for me.

If you're willing and you have the knowledge, I was hoping that you could do similar expansion to the cornerman article, and perhaps start an article on boxing managers as well. I've found very little information on these important jobs both in Wikipedia and elsewhere. It'd be awesome if you could start/improve those articles.

Again, awesome work on your cutman article, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!!! Lantoka 14:23, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cutman peer review

[edit]

Nice work on the Cutman article, I've contributed to the peer review as requested. I've tried to be as picky as I can for the good of the article, please don't take this as negative, I'm very impressed with the article so far and your work on MMA subjects. Cheers! --Estarriol talk 15:10, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

You've deleted the image of Aleksander Emelianenko from the page about him. I believe it was tagged appropriately: it's a copyright photo, but it was used to illustrate the article about the particular person in absence of free alternative.

--CasualFighter 21:36, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If the image is fair use you can re-upload it, and tag it with one of the fair use tags from Wikipedia:Image copyright tags, also include a fair use rationale. Before the deletion however the image wasn't tagged at all, it just listed the url/source. If you have any other questions let me know. - cohesion 05:34, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
I reloaded the image and tagged it. I no longer remember the source URL, and I couldn't find the old image description. If you could resurrect it, that would be great. Thanks!

Orphaned fair use image (Image:35 1.jpg)

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:35 1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image:Riggs2.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Riggs2.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Chowbok 00:02, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Enswell.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Enswell.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Thank you. Geni 03:21, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Lytle2.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lytle2.jpeg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Lister.jpeg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lister.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. east.718 15:04, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:AviteneFlour.jpeg

[edit]

I have tagged Image:AviteneFlour.jpeg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. MER-C 07:22, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Cutman.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cutman.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:55, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cung Le's Wikipedia

[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cung_Le

Hello, I'm leaving this message to seek assistance from you to see if there can a protection to Cung Le's wikipedia page. It seems that random IP addresses continue to revert his page to change his Ethnicity and Nationality to strictly just Vietnamese. I have provided many sources that label him as either a Vietnamese-American or a South Vietnam-born American, meaning he is currently an American that happened to be born in South Vietnam. In the talk page, a Mod had stated that he is indeed in fact an American based on all the sources.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Cung_Le

  • Comment This is very clear, he was born in South Vietnam but all that does is make him "South Vietnamese born" place of birth does not equate to nationality (otherwise Australia would have a british prime minister); there is a source here that calls Le "South Vietnamese-born American" therefore unless someone can show with an equally reliable source he is a national of another country then we go with American. Any changes without such a source will be reverted in line with WP:BLP. Mtking (edits) 22:33, 27 December 2012 (UTC) However, he's already retired. Let me know what you can do or who I need to contact for further assistance in protecting his page.PinoyFilAmPride (talk) 23:44, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
