  • This is the type of toxic behavior that we need to nip in the bud. If you don't want to take part in the thread in a constructive way then don't but sniping isn't going to happen either. Change your habits or start getting used to not being here.

This feels far too heavy-handed, particularly turning talk page access off. What's wrong with a slap on the wrist and "oy, knock it off"? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:14, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
Compared to his block log, this is a slap on the wrist. I'm trying to get the point across so tempering the result isn't suitable. If you would like, you may ask for a review at AN and see what the community thinks. In the past, he has said that he would not appeal blocks so I revoked tpa since that is the only suitable purpose while blocked and to prevent more drama. If his habits do not change the blocks will be getting longer.

(watching)...so others can comment here, but cassianto can't? What gives. WP:OPTIONS: editing of the user's talk page should be disabled only in the case of continued abuse of their user talk page, seems to implicitly reject pre-emptive revocation. ——SN54129 10:36, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

@Berean Hunter:Describing unmannedunnamed editors as an "anti-admin brigade" with cabal and leaders, referenced over many years, is far more toxic. I don't see much nipping in the bud by you folks with the power to do so there. [1]. I suggest you deal with the root cause. Leaky caldron (talk) 10:53, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

Block seems too long based on that diff. I've not looked for others. Disabling Talkpage access seems very heavy handed and suggesting that "the only suitable purpose while blocked" for access is to appeal a block sounds wrong. By "drama" do you mean "discussion"? Martinevans123 (talk) 11:21, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
Perhaps in this context "drama" means "criticism"  ;) ——SN54129 11:26, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
Perhaps in this context unmanned editors means ... I'm trying not to think about it. EEng 11:48, 8 December 2019 (UTC)
Owch!. It's full steam ahead at Wikipedia...!! Mandy Lifeboats 123 (talk) 11:53, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Message to Berean Hunter

I'm so sorry, Mr Hunter, but I've just returned from a two-week Christmas break in the sun with my family, so I've not had the means to connect to the internet to see your block or your comments about "habits" and "wrists", etc, until today.

You mention "changing habits"... I'm guessing this wasn't anything to do with a nun's laundry day? Or maybe your obsession with "habits" has something to do with the fact that your user name anagrams into "rather be e Nun"? Who knows, but I shall ignore it anyway, so you can kindly post your advice in the nearest storm drain, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm afraid I've become very used to not being here these past few weeks, especially what with having to endure 30 degree heat, with free flowing, ice-cold beers by an infinity pool in Cuba. But since you brought it up, I wondered if you could enlighten me as to why you think I can't live without being on this failing project for any length of time? You mention my block log, which you've clearly seen, so that should tell you all you need to know about how much it bothers me not to be here.

You'll see on my block log that I asked for (and got) a three-month block, which I happily saw through until the end. Is this the sort of request you'd expect to see from someone who wants to be here? The thought of not being on Wikipedia might scare you half to death and because of that, perhaps you think everyone else will react the same, but no, I'm sorry to break it to you, but not everyone gives a toss about not being here.

Anyway, better luck next time in your pursuit to try and annoy me. You've certainly got some catching up to do with Chillum if you want pole position on the best block log in town ;) Best regards and have a very merry Christmas. CassiantoTalk 01:11, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

A very happy Christmas and New Year to you!

May 2020 bring you joy, happiness – and no trolls, vandals or visits from Krampus!

All the best

Gavin / SchroCat (talk) 11:48, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks SchroCat. Best wishes to the family; have a great Christmas and a happy new year. CassiantoTalk 10:01, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Cheers

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well Cass. MarnetteD|Talk 04:19, 19 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, MarnetteD, have a great Christmas yourself and have a great 2020. CassiantoTalk 10:00, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
You are welcome Cass and thanks back atcha for the return good wishes. MarnetteD|Talk 15:44, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

And a Merry Christmas from Newport, too ...

I heard thisNSFW Cassianto, and thought of you, for some reason. Don't worry, you'll get a posh one too... Martinevans123 (talk) 17:38, 22 December 2019 (UTC) Paul Allen, brother of better-known Keith is actually from Swansea, but I 'spect you gets it, any road. Alright??

Thanks Martin, lol. CassiantoTalk 16:42, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
