CARTOONS OF MOHAMMED

Showing the figures of Mohammed is disturbing muslims. And it is a insult to Islam. In Islam making and also looking the figures of Mohammed is forbidden. That is raping the holy things of Islam. And it is not about "freedom".PLEASE get back your sıgnature.Thanks.--Erdemsenol 01:15, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

It's about freedom of speech and no Islamic terrorism is going to deter the truth from outing. And if it's forbidden to look at figures of Mohammed how come you did it; are you going to hell? Carlossuarez46 18:06, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Religious affiliation category

I see that you have removed "Baptists" from Clay Aiken's entry again, again saying there is no evidence. In his memoirs Aiken states that he grew up in the Baptist church, attended the Moravian church for a time as a teen, and then returned to the Baptist church (pp. 212-213). On page 213 he states, "Today I am a proud Southern Baptist." In addition to that evidence, here's a link from the Raleigh Leesville Baptist Church's website: [1]. -Jmh123 00:35, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

If you want to move an article, like Aleksey Gennadievich Cherneshov do not do cut & paste. Russian politicians

Thanks!!! What you are doing is great.

I am fully supportno patronimics in the titles Russian bios (unless there are two equally notable people sharing the same First name and Last name but distinguised by patronimics - in that case First name+Last name should be a disambig), in fact it was a consensus of a discussion on the Russian board. I have moved quite a few of the articles myself, but there are tons more and I am lazy. abakharev 22:03, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the {{For templates on Tkachyovs, they help a lot. Maybe in this case we should use the patronimics in the titles and have Alexander Tkachyov as a disambig? abakharev 22:46, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I think it is a good idea to move the list, getting rid of the acronim and having List in fron is a Good Thing abakharev 20:47, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

I posted this on the AfD, but thought I'd ping your talk page since it runs directly counter to what you said:

It is on NASDAQ as "FLWS." As a publicly traded company, you can find the requested info (733.74M USD revenue; 3000 employees). Finally, there has been a lot of non-trivial, non-ad press on the company. --Karnesky 01:42, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Despite the overwhelming support for keeping the list in article namespace, the above relisting was closed early. Hi. I notice you expressed an opinion on the deletion debate, saying that the band was not notable. I had a look at the band, and they seem to satisfy the WP:MUSIC criteria, and I would really appreciate any explanation of why you considered them to be non-notable. I'm not trying to dispute any AFD results, but just trying to work out what it is that makes people think they are not notable. Any comments welcome. DJ Clayworth 16:55, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi Carlos, yes, the village names that I have written under the Turkey tertory were original names that come from all the way back to the Byzantine. Almost all of these villages in the Turkish section of that page are now inhebitated by Kurds or Turks and thus the name of those villages have been changed. I will add the modern name (Turkish name) of them as soon as I get a chance. If you need anything else, let me know.

oh and I think this new finding might interest you; a couple months ago they discoved art/wall scripts in the Asyrian-Iraqi town of Baghdida, that historian believe comes from the Byzantinian time, when Byzantine ruled that portion of the world. Chaldean 01:52, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Yes my friend there is a lot of Kurdish cities that I haven´t had the time to add yet , belive me I will. Did you know that only 40% of the current population of Istanbul and 60% of Ankara or Izmir consist of people who were originally born in those cities, there are living more Kurds in Turkish areas than in Kurdish areas because of immigration, and becuase of this Kurdish majority exist in several Turkish cities.

Like you said, these are always being attacked by Turkish, Iranian and Arabic editors, couldn´t said it better myself. The thing is when I watched Wikipedia for a couple days agao I saw how Kurdish personalities, politicians, musicians and most of all Kurdish cities are showed as Turkish, Iranian and Arabs.

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:11, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

...Thanks for revisiting these. Re "Possibly living people", my concern is not the nature or criterion for this category, but rather the ungainly construction of its name, not least for any non-native English speakers who might see it and think that "Possibly living people" is a construction that's commonly used. Best wishes, David 23:51, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the messages and the chance to clarify or change position ... both [titles] seem to allow for the possibility of a person being both dead and alive. Without being metaphysical here, people tend to be either dead or alive ... For example, Jimmy Hoffa is either dead or alive he's not "possibly living" and he's not "maybe alive".

...at which point I was thinking of Jimmy Hoffa inside a box cuddling this!

Perhaps the clunkier but more accurate view is something akin to Category:People who have disappeared and not returned. I think the have could also be moved following the "and" and sound more like USA-English.

I suppose I consider "People who disappeared" to be less ambiguous than "Disappeared people" as a shortened form of "Category:People who (have) disappeared and (have) not returned". Thanks for your thoughts (and entertaining imagery!)  David 17:45, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

I suggest you continue the dialog there. Was there anythe else you were hoping I can do? Cheers, Deathphoenix ʕ 18:54, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see, I was wondering why you contacted me. Well, I'm one of the admins willing to restore content for others to look at, but I don't usually go around unilaterally undeleting articles that have already been deleted through AfD. I suggest that you continue to talk to Mackensen, who may also provide you with rationale and perhaps a further line of action if you continue to disagree with the deletion. If you need additional assistance, I will be glad to provide it, but I won't undo Mackensen's actions in closing the AfD. I suggest you just continue your dialog and see what comes of it. --Deathphoenix ʕ 19:02, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Urban Legend

Yes, here's the citation that says the List of Banned Songs is an Urban Legend. See Snopes [6] Morton devonshire 20:06, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Two problems: (1) the list is frequently edited by the article's gatekeeper, LGagnon, to insist that a ban really did exist (and he can't be convinced otherwise); and (2) besides the Snopes article itself, there is nothing to verify that Clearchannel actually had such a list, so how can we know what was supposed to be on the list? The only references to the list in the media seem to be to the urban legend that Clear Channel actually banned the songs. The net result is that the article lends credence to the notion that Clear Channel actually banned these songs, and it didn't. The better result is to delete all mention of Clear Channel in the article, or just to delete the article entirely. Morton devonshire 23:41, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

What do you think if I move this page to Ceyhan River? It seems a bit weird saying that there was a river called the Pyramus. I think the article should be in the present tense, and to do that we should probably move it to the present name. However, then we also have articles like Lamos (Cilicia), Lycus (river of Bithynia), Lycus (river of Phrygia), etc. that don't mention the modern names at all, and therefore the reader has no idea whether or not they exist today, and where they lie Turkey. Anyways, just wanted to hear your thoughts on this.

One more thing, the Tarsus (city) article says, "is a city in Cilicia Prima". Shouldn't it mention Çukurova in the intro? Thanks in advance. —Khoikhoi 04:30, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see what you mean, that makes a lot of sense. BTW, I just noticed that we have two articles about the same city: Charax (Tigris) (created by you) and Charax Spasinu (created by John Hill). Which one do you think should be merged? —Khoikhoi 18:41, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! (to be honest, I will probably never look at those two pages again) ;-) —Khoikhoi 04:46, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Comuni

Hi Carlos. How or whether to translate comune in Wikipedia articles is a question that keeps coming up in various places, without ever quite getting settled. Or rather a different decision is sort-of made each time. Leave it in the Italian, in which case it’s italicized and keeps its Italian plural form; use ‘municipality’; or use ‘commune’. They all have arguments in their favour. But your idea of treating ‘comune’ as an English word is new to me. It’s not in any English dictionary I have to hand—except for an ancient big OED which lists it as an obsolete word. ‘Commune’ however is defined in the Collins Concise as ‘the smallest administrative unit in Belgium, France, Italy and Swizerland’. ‘Municipality’ I personally dislike (perhaps it’s more commonly used in American English), but it is used on the ISTAT English pages, for instance. If I recall correctly my Italian-English dictionary says something like translate as ‘commune’ when referring to France, Belgium, etc., otherwise as ‘municipality’.

Anyway, it might be worth reviving the most recent discussion which was at Wikipedia_talk:Naming_conventions_(settlements)#English_form_of_the_Italian_word_comune, and followed on directly from this one. It would certainly be useful to achieve a deeper consensus. —Ian Spackman 01:05, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

I think you have misunderstood the proposal, which is that the surviving category should be called Category:Roman sites not that it should be called Category:Roman archaeological sites. Edton 03:01, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Carlos. Of the two options I prefer the Italian plural (comuni), and italicizing the word when it appears. That way readers won’t see it as a mis-spelling of the English word ‘communes’. (Of the four options I like ‘communes’ best and ‘municipalities’ least. At some point, probably when standardizing the cats for places in Italy, there will need to be a consensus, and I can’t second-guess what that will be.) Good luck with making the lists: they will be useful. Cheers —Ian Spackman 06:39, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

8.00 am here, in England. Are you across the Pond? I don’t really know what a county ward is, though I have come across the expression. (British local government structures are quite complex and ever-changing: and I don’t find them very interesting!) But ‘ward’, in this case, means an electoral district or constituency. I liked your idea of the orphan, though: it was entirely logical. —Ian Spackman 07:11, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

AfD Medieval Wonders

Carlos, I hope you don't misunderstand the AfD and take it personally. The purpose is not to try and change your vote. AfD's are not decided on numbers alone. They are decided by the closing admin based on the strength of the rationales presented. We are encouraged to engage in debate, that is how Wikipedia works, not by the tyranny of numbers. I have seen AfD's decided in favor of the minority number of votes because the minority had a stronger argument, and the objections to those arguments were weaker. It is a subjective decision by the Admins how to decide, they don't have to go with the majority of voters - how you vote is only part of the picture, so I'm not too concerned about your vote, rather the strength of your rationale - for example I think your last response that is purely rhetoric, instead of addressing facts and specific reasons why the article should be deleted, will lessen the strength of your position. So I am not "arguing" with you or trying to change your position, it's nothing personal. -- Stbalbach 14:10, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

You are over-analyzing the phrase "delete and salt." Salt refers to WP:SALT, a way to keep a deleted page from being re-created. It has nothing to do with Sodom and Gomorrah. --N Shar 20:57, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes, you made a bit of a mistake there. However, would you like to join WikiProject LGBT studies? I think you would be interested. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 21:02, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
No, "delete and salt" and "kill with fire" are standard expressions used in AfDs. {User|Essjay}}, who is gay, regularly uses "kill with fire" when he votes. I do not believe there is homophobiain any of that AfD - even the nominator most recently created an article on someone who is gay. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 21:09, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
It's nothing to do with being sensitive or not (but for the record, no I don't go around trying to be offended by everything a straight person says) - I have been involved with AfDs for over eight months, across several Wikimedia projects, and "kill with fire" is a standard expression used by many people, including homosexuals, and it is not a anti-gay expression, unless you think people are just being homophobic on every AfD they vote on. Which is silly. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 21:23, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

List of Peruvian Jews

Carlossuarez46

You recently participated in an AfD on this article. Despite a majority for retention, it was deleted.

The trouble with this and similar articles (Latin American, Chilean, etc.) is that very few editors have enough expertise in Spanish or Portuguese to search for references in these languages to demonstrate that the people in these lists are Jewish, so that nearly all the names are unsourced. Would you have time, please, to participate in this.

Newport

Pisistratus

Hi Carlos, you might want to take a look at WP:GREEK. "Pisistratus" is the preferring spelling on enwiki. Personally, I'd rather spell it "Peisistratos", but that's not our standard. --Akhilleus (talk) 21:11, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Carlos, did you look at WP:GREEK? That guideline is intended to cover a wide range of articles, and based on that, it's almost certain that someone will want to move Peisistratos to Peisistratus or Pisistratus. ("Pisistratus" is what the Oxford Classical Dictionary uses.) I don't particularly care which spelling we use, but I noticed you were changing all the links, and when the article gets moved, someone will have to change them again...
I do think, however, that the Athenian tyrant is by far the most famous Peisistratos, and he should be the main article at that name--the disambig page can be at Peistratus (disambiguation). --Akhilleus (talk) 21:23, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
Carlos, WP:GREEK actually specifies that names/nouns ending in -ος get transliterated as "-us"--see the section "Equivalence changes". --Akhilleus (talk) 22:08, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
Carlos, the only reason I made these comments is because I see you're expending a considerable amount of time and effort fixing redirects, and it's quite likely Peisistratos (Athens) is going to be moved. I acknowledge the Google Scholar results, but you get a different picture with regular Google, and I've seen enough RM discussions that I think I know which set will win out. I'm not trying to argue with you; if I were king of Greek transliteration, Heraclitus would be at Herakleitos and Cypria would be at Kypria--just look at my username! But I think it's very likely that Peisistratos (Athens) is going to be moved, both because of the spelling issue and because he's the most prominent figure of that name. I'm just telling you all of this because fixing redirects is enough of a pain, but doing it twice is even worse... --Akhilleus (talk) 22:22, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

BLP

i disagree with your interpretation of WP:BLP, it clearly refers to information that may be 'contentious', or disputed. do you really contend that listing people such as Malcom X and Martin Lings are converts? i will endeavour to source them, nonetheless. you have also overlooked one rather important thing: a lot of the people you removed are deceased and as such do not fall under WP:BLP. please could you restore them? thank you. ITAQALLAH 01:28, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

they may not comply with WP:V, but in those cases we fact tag and allow some time for it to be verified. immediate removal is not mandated, especially as they fall outside of WP:BLP. ITAQALLAH 01:48, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

I was thinking of deleting this category, and creating a List of ancient mints. There are several reasons. One of the big ones is that the articles about the cities don't mention much if anything about them being mints. The articles have all been tagged as belonging to the Numismatics WikiProject, but I don't think they really belong. I saw that you had created the category last year, and thought I'd check if that would bother you. If you have an opinion, please share it at WT:NUMIS#Things that should not be in project. Ingrid 00:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your input. I didn't realize it had historical importance. Would you object to renaming the category so it's clear that the articles aren't about the mints? Something like Category:Sites of ancient mints or Category:Cities with ancient mints? Or something else? Ingrid 21:49, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't actually know anything about it. My interest is in modern coins, and I'm an organizer at heart. I was having enough trouble thinking of a good name when I thought cities or sites would work. I guess it's fine the way it is (I've taken the category out of the numismatics project, and put a note on its talk page). Anyway, thanks for taking the time to give me a little more perspective. re: Public companies

Good morning. You've asked a great question but it's unfortunately unanswerable. You are asking me to prove the negative. The problem is that any company well-known enough to work as an example will meet the sourcing requirements. It has to or I wouldn't know about the company.

The burden of proof has to be in the other direction. What proof or reasonable assurances do we have that every company on each of the public exchanges will always meet our sourcing requirements? So far, no one has ever been able to answer that question. So while everyone agrees that most publicly traded companies are sourcable, we've been resistant to encoding that as an automatic inclusion standard.

There is, of course, further discussion that must be had about the quality of the sources. A mention by the SEC merely confirms the existence of the company, not its notability and certainly not the details that would be covered in a normal encyclopedia article about the company. Hoovers, Yahoo Finance and some of the other services are directory listings - again confirming the existence of the company and passing along some self-reported metrics but not providing independent confirmation. Now, when a company gets written up in Forbes or Fortune, we are talking real sources. But not every public company gets that level of coverage. Rossami (talk) 15:53, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

You got me thinking again about whether it might be possible to demonstrate the negative in this case. Here are a few microcap companies that seem to have pretty minimal coverage. After excluding reprints of press releases, financial statements and other self-reported information, I found very little material - arguably insufficient on which to base an encyclopedia article.
This is not a definitive test - it's more like a collaborative experiment. Let's see what we can find together. Rossami (talk)
  • Helios & Matheson North America (NASDAQ HMNA) - I found lots of references to the related Indian company but couldn't find anything independent on the NA company.
  • Ableauctions.com (AMEX AAC)
  • CET Services, Inc (AMEX ENV)
  • Frisch's Restaurants, Inc (AMEX FRS)
  • Action Products International, Inc (NASDAQ APII)

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Bridges in film, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Chunky Rice 22:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Of course adding information can be good. But indiscriminate adding of information is most certainly something to be avoided. If the first section can be sourced and is not original research, then I'll just prune it. Otherwise, I plan to take it to AFD.Chunky Rice 16:56, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
  • I don't doubt that bridges are used in and are even the focus of a variety of films. However, no purpose is served by simply listing them unless its in the context of the concept outlined in the first paraagraph. My problem is that the first paragraph appears to be original research. People executed by Italy vs. People executed in Italy

Well, I am *not* saying your concern is wrong or invalid. I am, however, saying that a blanket rename is likely to lead to just such mistakes as I pointed out. These are both problems, and require a discriminating response to avoid error creeping in. FrozenPurpleCube 21:44, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh wait, I'm not even sure what you're saying, I thought you were proposing the rename. Nevermind. But note, I'm not in support to the rename, my concern is if it does happen that kind of error will creep in. FrozenPurpleCube 21:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Certainly makes for a legit concern to me, even aside from the possibility of error creep. FrozenPurpleCube 01:32, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

An alternative possibility

There has been a proposal for renaming to "series" some of the nominated categories in Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 April 12#Comedy films by actor. If you think it is a correct way out of the dilemma, please assist. The prospect of nominating the whole of Category:Film series is, of course, very scarry. Hoverfish Talk 08:01, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Musician categories

I read your comments at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 April 16. Could you comment on whether the categories should be renamed (e.g. renaming Category:Sikh musicians as Category:Performers of Sikh music)? If the categories are kept, then new names would be helpful. Otherwise, people will be categorized in inappropriate ways. (For example, Gwen Stefani could be listed in Category:Roman Catholic musicians as was done in the past, and Missy Elliott is listed in Category:Christian rappers.) Thank you, Dr. Submillimeter 07:00, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

afd or whatever this round is called on music

hi - as is likely obvious from my comments on the covert music references discussion, I agree wholeheartedly with your points about afd. I haven't been involved in it very much at all, so seeing the way this one was handled from afd1 to afd2, and reading the knee-jerk "no procedural problems, therefore no overturn" comments disturbs me and tells me that the process is in need of fixing. I don't understand this mania for deletion anyway - I came to my position as an inclusionist slowly, and then one day I saw the userbox on someone's page, read its article, and realized that was exactly what I had been thinking and saying for a while. Of course some articles should not be here, and I'd agree with removing many of them. But this one clearly needs to stand and be improved - like lots of others. This rush to remove and the way it is done is a matter of real concern to me. The world will survive this article's demise - even the wiki world - but it's wrong, and the process is wrong, and I too would like to see it changed. Nice to meet you. Comment

Hi Carlos, The CfR was modified such that it seems to agree entirely with your comments there, so I hope that you might change your comments to support. As a side-note, I'm very hopeful that this passes due to the compromise and agreement on the part of both pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian editors, not an overly common occurrence :-) Cheers, TewfikTalk 02:20, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I wasn't saying you were pro or anti anything, only pointing out that many people who often in disagreement about this sort of thing were more or less all accepting of it :-) I'll provide specific quotes if you like, but unless I've misunderstood your comments there, the renames that you've requested are now the same as those being proposed. Let me know, TewfikTalk 05:10, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

You're preaching to the choir; I think you should reread the rename request, because it appears to me that it agrees with you :-) (For example the archaelogy category is currently slated to be listed under WB or GS, as you said you wanted). Let me know if I'm completely misunderstanding. Cheers, TewfikTalk 06:21, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Woops, I see that the archaelogy isn't listed as I thought - lets see if we can rectify that. TewfikTalk 06:22, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I don't think you are preachy at all - in fact, I've been in total agreement with you this entire time, and I'm still somewhat confused about the miscommunication :-) Just one last try: you want the nongovernmental categories (with the exception of geography) to refer to Palestinian territories. As far as I can tell, the renaming request agrees with you, as do I. Here's to nonverbal communication, TewfikTalk 06:56, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I do hate to keep bothering you, but if you do agree with all of the categories, perhaps you could clarify for whoever will be eventually closing the debate by writing "support". If I've misunderstood (which is very likely :-P), then disregard this. Cheers, TewfikTalk 18:36, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Carlos, I was wondering what you thought about Category:Cities, towns and villages in the Palestinian territories and the Category:Buildings and structures in the Palestinian territories hierarchy. I'm fearful of listing them at CfD due to the contention in the area unless I could be sure that it was appropriate. Cheers, TewfikTalk 04:48, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

I hope I did this correctly. Feel free to suggest any changes or rewording. TewfikTalk 01:59, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Mormon mythology

I was interested in your comment on the CfD for this category. I am not sure you are familiar with Christian beliefs, but I assume a relatively high degree. You may not possess a comparable degree of knowledge of LDS beliefs, but I am not certain that is necessary. What is necessary is to understand the quality of the articles to which Christian mytholgoy is applied. It is not applied to issues of doctrine, but something more akin to Christian lore such as making a deal with the devil or the Holy Grail.

Now if your question becomes is there Mormon mythology, the answer would be yes but currently I am not aware of any articles to populate the category. Thus the category again is not currently necessary.

We may both firmly have a proper understanding of the term mythology, but it is applied diffferently in English and American culture. I think it is even applied differently on Wikipedia; were it not so, the category of Christian mythology would have topics such as Jesus Christ, The Virgin Mary, New Testament, Old Testament, Crucifixtion, Resurrection, etc. --Storm Rider (talk) 19:29, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

For some reason I feel like too much commentary on a CfD is inappropriate, but thank you for your comments there. I actually am not sure where best to comment, but it feels better here because I appreciate your thoughts and enjoy the exchange.
I agree with your statements and we agree on what should probably be labeled Christian mythology and what is not. There might be some grey areas that I would shy away from; though I am not an absolute literalist, I would simply ignore labeling those areas where I feel it would be too confrontational
Again, there are cultural beliefs in Mormonism that are rightly identified as mythology or pious fiction for which I feel might actually be a better term. However, as I said before they are just not articles yet and the category would be left unpopulated.
Thank you for listening and I would still hope that you might change your vote to delete. It appears that we agree on most things. --Storm Rider (talk) 23:27, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
For LDS the concept of the Immaculate Conception is the belief of RCC and I would reject the label mythology regardless of prefix (Christian, RCC or otherwise). It is not the place of other denominations, churches, etc. to define the mythology of another church or belief system. However, some of the tales that we both hear about the Magi or the archangels may be appropriate for the label simply because they have no basis in scripture or any firm degree from a religious council of any religion. We have lore or a mythology, but belief in these stories fall outside of doctrine.
I am not sure that I understand your point about the Holy Grail; I am not aware of that being a doctrine of the RCC. The LDS church and the RCC hold it as legend, lore, or Christian mythology. On the other hand, LDS do not consider the Gold Plates, Urim and Thummim, or First Vision as mythology, legend, or lore; they are all doctrinal. They hold an equal place in LDS beliefs as does the Immaculate Conception does in the RCC. There may be some very liberal LDS who consider these stories or mythology, but it would be considered highly irregular. For us, the Gold Plates was the parent document from which Joseph Smith translated through the power of God, the Urim and Thummim, what we recognize today as the Book of Mormon. Their presence is believed to have been returned to God. This is more akin to believing that the Bible today is the word of God, traslated from the original texts; though we know that th original texts do not exist today.
Everything that Merkey, the editor who created the two categories in the CfD, labeled as Mormon mythology are actually Mormon doctrine and belief. They are not mythology, but religion. Carlos, I believe we are supportive of the same principles or concepts. There may be a lack of understanding of some of the beliefs of the LDS faith, but once understood I think we would both label the same thing as mythology and others as religious doctrine or beliefs. Cheers. --Storm Rider (talk) 11:47, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm not trying to force my opinions on you, and I am sure other admins disagree with me, but as an admin (you seem to be well on your way to being promoted) you will have constant contact with others, and it may not always be civil. I have full confidence on your end with the civility issue (one reason I gave you my support), but I do recommend at least building the talking issue up a bit. Now, please don't take me as nosy or pushy (although I do like getting my way ;-)), but I am excited to see another qualified editor receive the tools, and I wish you the very best preparation possible. A tag has been placed on Pinedale Shores, Saint Clair County, Alabama, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Ozgod 23:10, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

My concern isn't that exists or that it is sourced but that it is non-notable. Besides being a town in Alabama, what claim to notability does it have?--Ozgod 13:43, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm familiar with the show, and I considered untagging it as well, but it looks like some random guy's hand with the eyes on it. The eyes are the wrong color and the actual hands are impeccably manicured. The image isn't even sharp. Unless someone just happened to see Oobi walking down the street and snapped the photo, I think this one needs to be not here. Hi, this speedy is not just a work->author, it's an implausible typo masquerading as a work->author . I'd have no problem with The Sea Named "Solaris" (that's the real name of the song) redirecting to Isao Tomita, but this existing redir is wrong in at least three ways: wrong capitalization ("called" instead of "Called"), wrong word ("called" instead of "Named"), wrong punctuation ("Solaris" not in quotes). If this particular redir made sense, we'd need seven other variations for completeness' sake. Does it really need to go through RFD?--NapoliRoma 21:42, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Ceremonial Snips (Band) AFD Review

Greetings, I am somewhat new to creating articles, mostly due to the fact that I've never found a gap in the wall-to-wall coverage of Wikipedia. The other day while attempting to put a piece together on Welland music I found one major gap. The Ceremonial Snips are a very important part of the Niagara music scene, and aside from pointing out their notability through news articles, reviews and first-point facts (which I have done in co-ordination with local music journalists).

In 2008 the word is that they will also have a European tour, to complement all of the European bands that have come to Niagara. Many of which do not have information available outside of wikipedia (Esp. Bohse Onkelz cover bands, those guys are like GnR and Metallica of Germany). I do not believe that Wikipedia is a centre for speculation, but I do believe in it as a record of information that others and myself may have a use for.

Simply put - I don't know the technicalities of Wikipedia and could use any information you could provide to bring this inquiry to an end.

Eleventyseven

Hey, can you please explain why you deleted the Eleventyseven page that I had been working on and was not yet finished with? The band is of importance I would say because they are popular and well-known with two albums. It keeps getting deleted and I put multiple links to their website, MySpace, other Christian rock websites, and the like. I understand if you found reason to delete it, but I tried to explain myself and I was hardly given enough time to correct it I think. Sorry to bother you, but I would just like to stop seeing this article get deleted after I put my time into it. Thank you, and God bless.RoryS89 19:21, 18 July 2007 (UTC)RoryS89

Yes, their music is featured on the two most popular Christian rock sites on the web; Jesus Freak Hideout and ChristianRock.Net. They have four popular singles on Christian radio and they are signed to a popular record label. And I am finding more as I do more searching.RoryS89 19:40, 18 July 2007 (UTC)RoryS89
I believe those sites have more notability and popularity than you think. A few of us how found plenty of ways to improve those article and prove that.RoryS89 20:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)RoryS89
Sorry if I was upset at you yesterday about the articles. Just letting you know I understand your reasons for what you said. God bless.RoryS89 01:57, 20 July 2007 (UTC)RoryS89

Ceremonial Snips is Representative of Welland

This is in reference to:

"If, as you suggest, the word is that they'll be big in 2008, having an article now is premature. In 2008, if they are big by the standards set out at WP:MUSIC, then an article is appropriate. Being currently big in a local scene (be it Niagara, or LA or NY) is not a claim of notability. Are there reliable mainstream media that have covered the band? Do they have charting records? Gold records? These are the objective criteria by which Wikipedia judges whether a band is notable enough to have an article. Carlossuarez46 16:20, 18 July 2007 (UTC)"

It does meet the 7th notability guideline as stated: "Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability." It also meets the verifiability component.

The Snips also may slightly qualify in that coming from Canada tour stops in the USA with the Vans Warped Tour. This Meets Guideline number 4: "Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country, reported in reliable sources."

I know, it is extremely difficult to be sure about something you've never experienced. I assure you that the cited works between their own site, the warped tour site and the articles from local media outlets (part of larger Canadian national networks) confirm the notability according to the guidelines. This may seem circular if I have misinterpreted something, however I mean only to benefit the Wikipedia experience.

Sri Potuluri Veera Brahmendra Swami

You have deleted this article Sri Potuluri Veera Brahmendra Swami giving the reason ((WP:CSD#G12) Copyright violation.BalanceRestored 05:24, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

There are new users who are likely to be not aware of all the policies and also the copyright issue, they just see that wikipedia is free to edit, and copy paste things. This is what even I did at first when I was very new to wikipedia. But, again it is not a unfriendly thing either, they locate us with important references which we too may not be aware of. But again it is also an important thing to watch. I've added the article under my watch, I will keep a close check with things. BalanceRestored 07:47, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Closing AFD's

Remember to place the subst:at template above the header when closing AfD's. Thanks! Sr13 07:46, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I use an AfD script (which makes closing a lot easier) that does that. For an explanation on the ns:0 thing, see the "Magic Words" help page on Meta. Sr13 19:22, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
I've reinstalled the script. Have you tried bypassing the cache? After doing so, go to a AfD discussion page, edit it, and it should come up as a tab that says "close". It works on Safari and Firefox, but I'm not sure if it works on other browsers. Sr13 21:14, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Strange. What browser are you using? Sr13 21:35, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion

Why did you alter an edit I made to have a page deleted for valid reasons? A typo is a valid reason a page should be deleted. Asashikawa-Yojō Station is not needed and is incorrect. It needs to be deleted, not redirected. Hosikawafuzi 22:46, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't think it's plausible unless you get cross-eyed like I did when I was making the article. The correct reading of the name is "Asahikawa". "Asashi" is not a correct reading at all for 旭. Like I said, it's just a stupid typo from getting cross-eyed when I was typing. If you wouldn't mind just getting rid of it, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Hosikawafuzi 23:07, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks much. Hosikawafuzi 19:08, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Erebus (Band)

The creator says that it fits criteria #7 and #9 from WP:MUSIC. #7 is thing you mentioned. #9 is supposed to be from winning a few Battle of the Bands. My gut says that the article would not survive an AFD, but he does have at least an assertion that he meets WP:MUSIC, so my call was that it wasn't valid for Speedy. - TexasAndroid 23:20, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Faton krazwhatever

By all means, fix it - I don't protect things often, and I think I messed it up. Would you do it correctly and leave me a little tutorial? I'd be grateful. Thanks! - KrakatoaKatie 19:59, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Whoo hoo! I knew there was something I was supposed to stick in there but couldn't figure out what it was.
I'm new too (June 8) and I'm discovering there are how-to pages that are either incomplete or outdated or just not right. Last night I was working with the copyright problems, and the advice to admins page says to move cleared log pages (such as (Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2007 July 15 to Wikipedia:Copyright problems/Log, but that log page hasn't had a new entry since May 2006! I finally crawled through the history of WP:CP and saw that others are simply removing them from the main page but not logging them. Took me 30 minutes to figure it out, and it still doesn't feel quite right. We log the old AfD pages at Wikipedia:Archived delete debates, so why don't we log the CPs anymore? I guess it's okay if we don't _delete_ the page, because we can still find it if we need it. This admin stuff is quite confusing. Thanks again, very much! - KrakatoaKatie 20:15, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
The AFDs can be tedious. I use a Mac, and there are several apps that help me along. I have a clipboard app, which lets me save as many clipboards as I want, and another app that lets me enter shortcuts for frequently-typed phrases. For example, if I'm adding references to an article and I type 'citebook' in a certain way, it will expand to the entire {{cite book}} template, ready for me to fill in. I use it with AFDs too – I type 'tp' for ' {{subst:at}}' , 'ab' for '{{subst:ab}}', and so on. The app keeps track of how much time it saves me, and I'm at 1.8 hours. I use Twinkle too, mainly for speedy deletes; it can be used for warnings, but sometimes I don't like the text of the warnings, so I end up going back manually to fix them. I find BetacommandBot's wake of tagged images _really_ tedious. I know the bot's work has to be done, but slogging through them correctly takes a lot of time, because I've found rationales and source URLs in edit summaries and even on an uploader's talk page.
The admin help and how-to pages aren't much help sometimes, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. That copyright advice page irks me the more I think about it. I'd change it, but I don't know how it should be changed. I'm not in the right frame of mind to create a solution to the overall problem of bad advice to new admins, but it's going to stew in my head. Some boldness is necessary, methinks. - KrakatoaKatie 21:08, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Eric M. Camburn

You recently speedy deleted (under A7) Eric M. Camburn and Daniel M. Bolt. I have no objection to the Bolt deletion, but I feel the Camburn one is a mistake: the article as deleted includes the text "Camburn and his co-authors won the William J. Davis Memorial Award for the most outstanding article in the journal Educational Administration Quarterly in 2000" which is an assertion of notability making the article ineligible for A7 deletion. Can I ask you please to undelete the article and set up a normal AfD for it (a second AfD nomination, replacing the one I closed as moot when you speedy-deleted it)? Thanks. —David Eppstein 20:20, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

(responding to your reply on my talk page) The copyvio is a much better reason for speedy deletion, I think. I don't want to undelete copyvio content myself, so why don't we just pretend you deleted it as G12 (as someone on the AfD suggested) and leave it deleted. —David Eppstein 20:30, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
personally, I came here to say the same thing. Copyvio is a good reason to speedy during an AfD. But to fix the record properly, why not undelete the article and re-delete it with the right tag--that way it will be clear there is no prejudice to re-creation of a properly written article. Carlos, That's very kind, & hugely flattering, but I'm sure I don't want to do it. Firstly, I am trying to cut down my WP time, which frankly has been excessive, especially for summertime. Secondly I'm pretty slow technically, which I suspect is a disadvantage. Thirdly I also keep telling myself that the time I do spend on WP should be more article-writing & less the other stuff. But many thanks for asking - indeed we don't always see eye to eye, but I have great respect for you as an editor. Johnbod 00:33, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

no consensus close of AfD

hello Carlossuarez46, you recently closed an AfD discussion on the book Muhammad's Monsters as no consensus. now, i'm not much of a fan of vote-counting (even though most !votes were delete, citing no evidence of notability), i believe there should be solid policy-/guideline- based arguments behind a !vote. the only rationale behind the two Keep !votes was that the author was notable, and by extension any publication he writes must also be notable (which really isn't how our notability guidelines work). this argument was addressed in the AfD, that an individual's notability justifies an article on himself, not necessarily every publication of his: books should meet WP:BK, thus being sufficiently notable to merit their own article. i was wondering if you could review the discussion again, as it may have been a simple error on your part. regards, ITAQALLAH 00:53, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Muhammad's Monsters. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. ITAQALLAH 02:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
