Hi there. Your edit to Koyaanisqatsi doesn't seem to present a Neutral point of view. And your edit to Powaqqatsi would seem to be either POV or original research. So I've removed them for now. Feel free to add them back if you can present them in a more neutral way or find somewhere else that someone brought up the same issue that you did on Powaqqatsi so you can cite it on the page. Your question about lists and AfDs

[edit]

You asked why list of Los Angeles television stations has received less hostility than other lists. Besides that it does not obviously violate any policies, I think this is because:

  1. it is manageable. Lists that could potentially get too large, like a list of cemeteries, list of schools in China or list of websites are not manageable because they would simply get too large. Categories are better suited
  2. the criteria for inclusion is clear, and it is easy for others to check it's accuracy
  3. bias. It is considered useful. The more people think a list is useful, or if the subject of the list is of interest to many people, it will probably be kept

--Ezeu 01:03, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also saw your question and as a generally anti-list user felt that it deserved ansnwer. Ezeu's points one and two are the main reasons. Lists with a small (<100) size and a more or less defined membership have some use, especially if the idividual entries don't or shouldn't have articles of their own. Lists with large sizes and amorphous membership are more likely to generate hostility. Eluchil404 00:46, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aleem Pahalwan

[edit]

Aleem pahalwan was one of the earlier opponents of the former Pakistani wrestling champion Bholu Pahalwan during his early career in the 1930's. There is nothing mentioned about Aleem being a champion except that he was the nephew of famous Buta Pahalwan of Baroda who was a former Rustam-i-Hind. The name and brief profile of Aleem pahalwan has been mentioned in the following old manuscript of Bholu Pahalwan which can be observed by visiting the following site: http://geocities.com/worlddweb/bholu_page1/, http://geocities.com/worlddweb/bholu_page2/,

Of course, if I'd just spelled foundation properly. BTW, where is the proper place for me to respond to this note you've sent me: here on my Talk page or on your Talk page, or somewhere else entirely? I'm never sure if simply putting a : at the start of my reply will send a Message notice to the person to whom I'm responding. Interlingua talk 15:10, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My view is that the reply should be on the same page as the question to keep the thread together. I do try to watch all user_talk pages I have left notes at but I do sometimes miss. (I have to use "my contributions" - my watchlist became unmanageably large long time ago!). Sometimes when a newbie has left a comment on my talk page, I transfer it to their talk page and reply there. Sounds good. Your idea was somewhat like what I had in mind and better too. We'll go along with it. I did add one diasporic South Asian, Freddie Mercury. I dont know if you've heard of him but he was the lead singer of a famous British rock group called Queen. He was a Parsi (Indian Zoroastrian) who was born in Zanziber east africa but grew up in Mumbai before emigrating to England. He kept his ethnic background a secret, though, for fear of discrmination. I will also add yours plus the baron Waheed Ali, a Pakistani-Brit politician and lord of gay background. However, I can only do work for you today, as I have to be gone for 7 weeks tommorow for a debate camp ( i'm an RA, actually, who monitors the dorm rooms, keeps the campers in check and judges at camp tournament, I was a debater in high school and that's why they called me back). Lists

[edit]

Hello, Interlingua. I saw your question about creating lists that won't be deleted and I have some suggestions. First, people dislike lists that don't have a reasonable chance of being completed and/or would be huge if completed. They also don't like lists that need to be continuously updated, although very notable lists, like members of congress, can get away with this. In both of these situations, a category is usually preferred. Another big complaint is a list of things that many people find trivial, like a list of songs that have the word "black" in them (some song lists have been very similar to this).

The last big problem that I can think of is lists that encourage the creation of articles on non-notable topics. For example, there might be a list of all of the people who appeared in a TV show. Some of the actors probably already have articles and some of the others may be notable enough for articles when they are created. However, there is likely to be some non-notable people who only appeared briefly in the show and have never had significant roles in anything else, either. Linking the names of all of the actors may encourage people to create articles on the non-notable ones. In fact, they can be attractive because they are shorter to write. Some solutions would be to only link notable people or people that already have an article, leaving the rest unlinked, or to limit the list to major characters, those who already have an article or those probably notable enough for an article. Another possibility is to make a category, like "this actor appeared in (name of the show)". Since only actors with articles would appear in the category, there is no danger of encourage the creation of bad articles. Categories about non-notable topics may also be deleted, but they tend to get more leeway and less attention than lists. However, if there is a glut of trivial categories on a topic, they may get purged on Categories for Deletion in a mass or combined nomination.

Certain list topics have enough die hard fans that it is difficult to get a consensus for deletion about them. These include schools, highways, anything railroad related and lists related to a popular series, like Star Wars. It's probably best to nominate only the worst examples of such lists. If there are a bunch of similar lists and it is unclear if they will be kept or deleted on AfD, try nominating one or two instead of all of them at once. I hope this is helpful. Talk to you later, Kjkolb 09:30, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dissappointed

[edit]

Hello, I'm a bit dissappointed that you stated on the Raul Castro talk page that I had "violated Wikipedia's policies" in my discussion with another user. The user I was addressing was user:Demfourlife who is using ranging IP addresses to bypass policy and any blocks - This user was -

  • Banned under a different IP address for violating the 3rr rule. The same user broke the rule again yesterday on the Fidel Castro page - but as a ranging IP there is nothing that can be done. This page is now blocked to IP addresses.
  • Had repeatedly inserted dubious personal claims on a biography article that he was sourcing to an internet blog. These can be removed on site as per policy without discussion. That I entered the debate at all was out of courtesy.
  • Led to the Raul Castro page being protected by the VOA bot
  • Had been engaging in personal attacks on that and other pages against many users. Many of these have been removed by admins and other editors.(still occuring)
  • Had been making claims about other editors in edit summaries (still occuring).
  • Calls good faith female users "Castro loving bitches" and intimidates others off the pages.
  • Repeatedly attacks a longstanding Cuban editor (user:BruceHallman)
  • Has vandalised my talk page with false claims.

Meanwhile I've put forward almost 2000 edits on Cuban articles for a long time - created many detailed pages etc concerning Cuban history and mediated some of the worst disputes surrounding this issue attempting good faith and civility at all times. There can be no further discussion with users who insist repeatedly that an internet blog is a reliable source and are utilising ranging IP's to enforce these rumours on the page. To read that I had been violating policy is not encouraging. Thank you. --Zleitzen 14:31, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did I Make a Mistake on My Redirect Page

[edit]

See Talk:Roe_v._Wade_for_Men for my discussion of how and why I made a redirect. My issue here is that the History page didn't redirect along with the main article. Did I do something wrong? Should I have done something different? Thanks. Interlingua talk email 18:08, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What are you looking for help with? --pgk 18:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't put the help me tag in the right place. I'm looking for help with the item above, my question about whether I messed up when I made the Redirect Roe vs. Wade for Men to Roe v. Wade for Men.
Well the redirect itself is fine, you left the content of the original article in place which is not particularly normal, but doesn't stop the redirect working. I'm not sure what you mean by the history page didn't redirect, the history page is quite separate to the article. --pgk 18:33, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am glad that you fixed the naming of the page, but, yes, it would be nice if the history of the original page could be copied over as I spent some time on creating that page, and I would sorta like the credit for making it in the history. It looks like from WP:MOVE, that you probably should have done a "rename" to preserve the history. Now that the new page is already created with the new title, it is apparently more difficult to do a rename and we would (I think) need an administrator to do so. I honestly don't have much time at the moment to deal with this, although maybe I will some time soon, but if you might be able fix it, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks, HalfDome 16:31, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here's an idea, HalfDome. You could do two edits to the page: first, copy all the info, then delete it, then save. Next, edit, copy back all the deleted info, then save. This might be a little odd, but since you're (so far, I think) the sole author, this isn't vandalilsm. Interlingua talk email 00:33, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I contacted an administrator who fixed it. Woo-hoo. Cheers, HalfDome 16:56, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Deepak Ananthapadmanabha

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Deepak Ananthapadmanabha, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

non-notable local journalist; no referencesfor notability

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Please help to translate this pali-language sentence into English

[edit]

Hello, Interlingua. Sorry for interrupting you! I am a Chinese-wiki editor, today I uploaded a file on wiki-common: [8], which is an important Pili-language sentence that results in the early divide of Buddhism (Theravada and mahasamghika). One of my friend insisted that this words shouldn't be said into Mahaparinibbana Sutta; however, I found this word from Pali's maha-parinibbana-suttanta. Since both of us don't know pali-language, I may need your help on translate this sentence. ( I consider it is: "Do not lay down that which has not been laid down; Do not eliminate that which has been laid down." ) Thanks for any response! I really appreciate your help!--Walter Grassroot |talk~talk~talk~ 06:32, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Angela Correa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 14:00, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Sunil Gupta, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Sunil Gupta and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Research survey invitation

[edit]

Greetings Interlingua-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a doctoral student at the University of Oregon, studying digital media and online community. I am posting to invite you to participate in my research study exploring the work of Wikipedia editors who are members of WikiProject: Countering Systemic Bias. The online survey should take 20 to 25 minutes to complete and can be found here:

https://oregon.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cSHzuwaQovaZ6ss

Your responses will help online communication researchers like me to better understand the collaborations, challenges, and purposeful work of Wikipedia editors like you. In addition, at the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to express your interest in a follow-up online interview with the researcher.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Research Committee as well as the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon. For a detailed description of the project, please visit its Meta page. This survey is voluntary, and your confidentiality will be protected. You will have the choice of using your Wikipedia User Name during the research or creating a unique pseudonym. You may skip any question you choose, and you may withdraw at any time. By completing the survey, you are providing consent to participate in the research.

If you have any questions about the study, please contact me via my Talk Page (UOJComm) or via email. My faculty advisor is Dr. Ryan Light. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant, please contact the Office for Protection of Human Subjects at the University of Oregon.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randall Livingstone School of Journalism & Communication University of Oregon UOJComm (talk) 04:04, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Request reason:

My account has been blocked by Procseebot because, the message says, it is associated with IP address 202.168.253.162, an address believed to be an open proxy. This confuses me. To the best of my knowledge, I have never made any edits to Wikipedia while using proxy-based software. And any edits that I might have made from any site have not been vandalous or inappropriate. How can I get this block removed so that I am able, again, to contribute to Wikipedia? Due to the government blocking of YouTube in Bangladesh since mid-September, it is often necessary for people here to use software like UlstraSurf when they want to access YouTube, and I certainly have used it, but I do know think that I've made any edits to Wikipedia while this software is being run. I have been an editor at Wikipedia for seven years with perhaps 2,000-3,000 edits.

Accept reason:

Anthony Bradbury has granted you an IP block exemption, which allows you to edit from hard-blocked IPs, including this one. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 19:48, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please note 2 things:

  1. Your account isn't blocked; only the IP address is. You are still able to edit from any non-blocked IP address.
  2. Even well-established users aren't allowed to edit using open proxies.

Please note that I have forwarded your request to Wikipedia:WikiProject on open proxies/Requests, where they will heck if the IP address is still a proxy. If it isn't, theyt'll probably unblock it; if it is, you're still welcome to edit from other IPs. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 10:00, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The IP has a massive history of spamming (by email). If Interlingua really has no other way of editing, xe should ask for WP:IPBE. Tijfo098 (talk) 10:29, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the prompt reply. Although I wrote "my account has been blocked" I actually meant "this IP has been blocked". Thanks for clarifying that. I am not now running an open proxy but still find that the IP address I'm using is being blocked. I'm not sure why this has only happened recently. I'm getting access to the Internet via a connection here at the University. Although I'm the only person in my flat with access to the Internet cable, perhaps the IP address is shared by me and the entire student computer lab. If so, that could explain the problem. I have a USB-modem that I sometimes use for Internet access, and I'll try that to see if it works. Interlingua 12:32, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You should now be able to edit, provided only that you log in. If not, please let me know. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 13:21, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you know who administers that IP, you could point them to http://www.projecthoneypot.org/ip_202.168.253.162 Tijfo098 (talk) 14:48, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Masala (Boston) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No assertion of notability. Fails WP:ORG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Saleem Kidwai (Muslim Council of Wales), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
