New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
Hello Atlantic306,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Help with improving biography article
Hello Atlantic306,
I noticed that you participate in the Actors and Filmmakers Wikiproject. I recently created a biography on a filmmaker Dare Olaitan and I would appreciate your help in looking it over for any errors or missed sections in the articles.

Hi! Why you decline my article with the comment - This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed.
the sources there are from the notable magazines such as Hollywood reporter, Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, Billboard covering aspects of the work and life of of the person and many others. You did not check the sources. Are those not "reliable"? Those sources provide an in depth coverage for the individual. I read books by this person myself. None of them even have a paid label, so it is a common opinion. I changed the tone and it would be great if you can go over the references. Thank you.

- Hi, unfortunately it is still too promotional in its wording like a press release. It should be written in a neutral almost boring tone like a paper encyclopedia. Also it has too much resume like content such as list of organisations he's connected with which should be removed. List of honours should only include professional honours not acclaim from publications and details of his hobbies should be omitted, imv Atlantic306 (talk) 18:15, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- I fixed the tone a little, but kept a quote from a magazine. it is an independed big magazine, and it describes facts, like the amount of compensation the figure received for clients which is usually mentioned for attorneys.. It is a page about attorney. All attorney's pages have summaries of their most important cases. For example here- Lisa Bloom. I took this page as an example. I removed the organizations as well. Introduction to contentious topics
You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Would you please review the draft at Draft:2022 Movieguide Awards? It used to just be a redirect to other articles, and somebody moved it to a draft because they found that objectionable. But now it's a full article, just like the articles for the Movieguide Awards in the other years. So it should be good, but someone to review it. Articles for creation: Melanie Gabriel (August 25)
I cannot found more sources by searching in search machines. In German language wikipedia exists sice 2007 without problems and was reviewed by a member of the music editorial team who answered: "... könnte mir aber nicht vorstellen, dass es für die enWiki nicht ausreichend sein sollte. Wenn ich sehe, mit welchen Quellen dort im Chartbereich gerarbeitet wird, grausam. Und der Artikel hier ist sauber belegt, also wüsste ich nicht, warum man den dann in den Wartungsbereich verschieben sollte." ("But I can't imagine that it wouldn't be sufficient for the enWiki. When I see what sources are used there in the chart area, it's cruel. And the article here is clearly documented, so I don't see why it should be moved to the maintenance area."), see: de:Benutzer_Diskussion:ChrisHardy/Archiv/2024#Melanie_Gabriel. Urmelbeauftragter (talk) 07:08, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I will give a detailed response tomorrow, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 19:26, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Urmelbeauftragter: Hi, the criteria for articles about singers and musicians to pass for inclusion in the English wikipedia is WP:GNG and WP:NMUSIC. The most important is WP:GNG which requires significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. Looking at the sources in your article: Discogs is not permitted as a reference because it is user-generated, AllMusic is a reliable source but to count for notability it needs to provide a staff written biography and/or staff written reviews of her music which is absent, Peter Gabriel.com and the Genesis fan site are not independent sources, the lalibre piece is an interview which is not permitted for notability (something with which I disagree but it is policy), and finally the Focus piece is not significant coverage. In total the sources do not enable a pass of WP:GNG in my view. Regarding WP:NMUSIC unfortunately I do not see a pass of any of the criteria, the tours she has taken part of are for her father where she plays a supporting role. So I remain of the opinion given in my review but if you resubmit the draft I will leave it for another reviewer so that you receive a second opinion, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 19:48, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

NPP copyvio check
Hi Atlantic, I saw you reviewed this draft The Poppy Field near Argenteuil which is now in mainspace by the way. It is an improperly attributed Interwiki translation from French Wikipedia. Based on our guidelines, it is required that translations like this are correctly attributed, based on WP:TFOLWP. Do not feel weird about this because it is difficult to know without checking the history of the page, I in fact ran into this same issue, but I managed to come up with a user script that can help us spot issues like this, consider using User:Vanderwaalforces/checkTranslationAttribution and follow the suggestions in helping to correctly attribute the translation. Also consider giving the created a {{uw-translation}}. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 00:45, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, i'll look into it later, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 09:40, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Have added the attribution in a dummy edit summary and tags to the talk page and user page. Also, have installed your user script so hopefully i'll be better able to spot other examples, thanks Atlantic306 (talk) 20:50, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
