Sam Apple Pie

Good Morning. I noticed whilst checking some cross references on the above entry that some of the referenced links no longer connect. item (1) refers to an NME article no longer available, and there are some others. You might like to check them. Regards Paul Burton (Bertiemerri) Bertiemerri (talk) 09:01, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Apologies, the links mentioned are available from the Archived link. Bertiemerri (talk) 09:52, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bertiemerri thank you for declaring your real identity, I had been wondering.
Unfortunately, this will restrict the edits you make, as Wikipedia has a clear policy on Conflict of interest, so please do not edit articles directly relating to you, but make a request on the article talk page, or leave me a post here.
If you look at the page histories, you will see that I started the articles on: Dave Charles, Deke Leonard, Ernie Graham, Help Yourself (band), Ken Whaley, Malcolm Morley (musician), Sam Apple Pie, Sean Tyla and The Amazing ZigZag Concert, and others that you will know indirectly, so, even if I got some things wrong, this is an area I am familiar with (although, of those people, I only ever spoke to Whaley, Leonard and Tyla, so I am probably dangerous to know).
The other. probably bigger, problem will be that Wikipedia is not interested in who you are, nor in what you "know".
Wikipedia is only interested in what has already been published in reliable, independent sources published by a body with a reputation for fact-checking - No blogs, no self-published sources, no bodies with a conflict of interest etc.
These sources must be properly cited in order to support any information added to, or changed in Wikipedia pages, so the information can be verified as being true in the future.
Regarding your comment about the NME article, if you look at the reference carefully there are actually two links, the first one is to the NME, which is dead, the second is to an archived version of that article on the Wayback machine. (Edit conflict - you posted your addition whilst I was writing this} Wikipedia uses Bots to crawl through its articles checking references and looking for archived copies of any dead-links, so please do not delete dead links - almost all old web-pages are archived somewhere - as examples in that article, ref 4 to AllMusic is currently broken, but should be repairable, while ref 8 has also been rescued from the archives.
However, this archived version creates a slight problem, as the NME article clearly states that Morley was a member who "completed the unit's debut album" ...
Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 09:58, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi Arjayay, all understood thanks for the explanation. Yes, I saw that you had started many of the entries concerned and be assured I’m not questioning your entries. What I do question is the fact that the sources cited in many cases are themselves flawed! The same inaccuracies have been quoted and re-quoted so how are they considered “reliable”. Just to explain my involvement, the remaining Help Yourself members are going to release a 6 CD box set which will have a 48 page booklet outlining the story of the band from it’s inception up to the present day. Some of the “real facts” will certainly be at odds with the Wikipedia articles that relate to themselves and other off-shoots and connected groups/individuals. This will make a nonsense of some of the facts and articles that are given up as “accurate and reliable” citations. It’s the integrity of both the band and Wikipedia I’m trying to protect. I can assure you, that Malcolm Morley did not ever play live with Sam Apple Pie, it has become a source of immense irritation to him to see these claims continually repeated everywhere. That’s from “the horses mouth” yesterday. So, what do you suggest we do about helping to make the information on Wikipedia reliable? Kind regards Paul Bertiemerri (talk) 10:58, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bertiemerri - This is a perennial problem on Wikipedia - as I said above, "Wikipedia is not interested in .... what you "know"
Please see WP:Verifiability, not truth - although that is only an essay, not a policy or guideline, it sums up the various discussions and reasons fairly well.
Where reliable sources differ, we usually state both claims/viewpoints - it is not up to Wikipedia to determine "the truth" . I don't know who is compiling your booklet, hopefully a well known music writer, but although it can be cited, as it will have been commissioned by the band/record label, it is not an Independent source
Having recently moved, many of my sources are still in boxes, so I cannot comment in detail. As for Morley and SAP, the NME page (and presumably the album, which I don't have, but assume they copied the info from) only says he "completed the unit's debut album". You appear to accept that, and given Morley's dislike of touring (unless that is another myth), could be mentioned in the SAP article, as you have left it saying "Following Charles departure to join Morley in forming Help Yourself" - without any previous explanation of Morley's role. - Arjayay (talk) 17:14, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello Arjayay, I have a message on my talk page from Hostbot inviting me to the Teahouse. I’ve no idea what that means or what I’m supposed to do? Can you help? Regards paul. Bertiemerri (talk) 16:44, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bertiemerri - That is an automated message telling new editors where they can go to get help/guidance - I'd have a quick look at the page, but, without being too big-headed, I probably understand this problem better than most - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 17:17, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi Arjayay, again, thanks for your comments. The reference to Morley and Jolly in the biography article refers to their contribution to the album not their membership of the band. The original statement was an assumption that they were both in the band. It was only Charles’ departure that is therefore relevant as neither Morley nor Jolly were actually band members. With regard to Morley’s dislike of touring, I’m not sure where that comes from? There definitely was a period where he suffered from a depression about the time of Beware The Shadow which has been described in previous articles. I will pose some questions in the Teahouse if you think it will help but if you have specific knowledge of these matters, it makes sense for me to ask you, if you are agreeable. The box set notes are being written by a music journalist but I agree, according to your explanation, this source would not be considered an independent source! I’m just interested in correcting the many inaccuracies in the articles that have been used as citations. As I can’t change the articles, how can I at least draw attention to the inaccuracies? It seems wrong to accept as reliable an article that has been published without any reference to the subject for approval and accuracy in some cases more than 40 years ago! Surely, the issue hinges on whether the writer of the article cited is in fact a “ reliable, independent sources published by a body with a reputation for fact-checking”. Clearly no journalist has ever contacted the band to verify the accuracy of their article nor ask for approval before publishing. Some articles/reviews/biographies just copy previously published information therefore exacerbating the errors. Chinese Whispers? So, where does that leave me? Is it possible to post a refutation against each inaccuracy ? In answering my own question, I guess I won’t be considered a reliable unbiased source? Help! 😳. Kind regards paul Bertiemerri (talk) 18:12, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello Arjayay, can posting under this rule solve my problem? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:BLPSELFPUB&redirect=no Regards paul Bertiemerri (talk) 18:38, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Plot explanation

It was me who was adding the story of Ejen Ali The Movie: Mission Neo, with all those strange, and lengthy IP addresses. I think that it is almost more than half year since the movie is released. I prefer "EVERYONE" to first read the story, and then edit concisely. It is really "pain straining" job for me to adjust within the word limit, as you, the editor (probably an administrator), Arjayay removed the "extra phrases". I tell you, the long plot template was even put up by me. So, how can you follow that template, but not keep patience to first complete the plot summary, and then concise it? Utkarsh555 (talk) 14:51, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Utkarsh555
I'm not clear what you are trying to say; there is little point in making an overlong plot even longer, and then expecting someone else to reduce it. You seem to have been making minor edits to the plot, rather than the drastic cuts that are required. May I suggest that you read Wikipedia:How to streamline a plot summary, which, although only an essay, is the best "how-to" guide on this subject that I know - Thanks - Arjayay (talk) 15:13, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
Well, you may be right, but i am helpless. Lets see what i can do. Sorry if i sounded rude, or stubborn.
Thank you!
Have a nice day.

Misocyclone

Please, next time before you'll be reverting someone else's entire work, because you think that it's an unsourced piece of pseudoscience, look for the source at least on the internet and, if you find something relevant and reliable, rather add the reference and make the article complete this way, than reverting everything without a thought. This is an easy way to get rid of an incomplete article, no article isn't an incomplete article anymore, but the easiest way isn't always the best and sometimes it requires some effort to get rid of an incomplete thing. The best way for doing so is COMPLETION. And, even if you meant it in a good way, the redirection from the page "Misocyclone" to the page "Landspout" is the same as if there was a redirect from "Felidae" to "Siberian tiger". Is it right to refer to the entire biological group of small and big cats as "Siberian tigers"? I don't think so.

Steve Cree

Hi, Arajay. I'm new to Wiki editing and you are very experienced to please excuse if I make any errors here. Re: Eric Joyce and your BLP flag. I think this may by aimed at my changes. I've picked 3 biographies of living people, and some other content, to practice on. At the Eric Joyce page, I could see many things which were not referenced (e.g university degrees) or were incorrect (I have looked up Queens regulations for the British Army and they are administrative, not disciplinary). The Child Sex reference is the most serious in a living person's biography, but there remains more than I care to correct at this point. The page came and comes, it seems to me, nowhere near the standard of other similar pages. I would enormously appreciate it if you would discuss here before you change again. best, Steve — Preceding unsigned comment added by SteveCree2 (talkcontribs) 09:53, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi SteveCree2 thanks for your post

Secondly, please sign all posts on talk pages (but NOT in articles) with 4 tildes ( ~~~~ ) which will add your signature and a timestamp
As for your post - I have no idea what you are talking about - the only edit I have ever made to the Eric Joyce page was to delete the duplicate "a" in "The image was a a 51-second film" as can be seen here
Finally, no, no-one is going to discuss changes with you before making them, in exactly the same way that you did not discuss your changes with anyone, before making them. Please read and follow WP:BRD - Thanks - Arjayay (talk) 10:40, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

Tiny quibble: I saw in Irchard you corrected "Erchard, is is almost certain, pentrated far ..." to remove the doubled "is is", giving "Erchard, is almost certain, pentrated far ... ". I must have been tired when I did that. "is is" should be "it is". This may be a common form of typo. Picky, picky. Keep up the good work! Aymatth2 (talk) 13:25, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

Battle of Dewair

Sir, as you noticed that I recently removed content from Battle of Dewair because that content has no reliable source as well as the other thing I removed was from a fan-made site not any historian's book or any historical source as well as this entire page of Dewair 1582 is a vandalism as it never happened actually because the actual battle happened in 1606 and its page is already available separately with valid sources as Battle of Dewair (1606). This 1582 page is created by some vandalised fans by adding sources from their fan-made site as the entire page doesn't have any reliable source. Dashrath03 (talk) 19:43, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

correct spelling of "releive"

The spelling "releive" was left that way because it is my policy to maintain the original spelling in quoted text (text within ""). This is not the modern spelling (relieve), but I consider it more important to reproduce historical text as is than to correct it to the way we spell now. Man1t0ba (talk) 17:27, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

As for your question, I did not say there were any unreliable sources, I said "Rv unsourced additions + changes" because you had not cited any sources
Since asking your question, above, you have added "information" based upon "information gathered during research visit to the school" which is what Wikipedia calls original research which is equally unacceptable - only information from published reliable sources, that can be verified, is acceptable - Arjayay (talk) 18:38, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Can you please elaborate why are you stating my edit as vandalism and reverted them. Whereas the hat notes you are referring to actually link to disambiguation pages, so are useful, yours do not link to anything, so are not useful, but annoying to our readers.
Let us look at this edit of yours to Ranipet. You added {{About|the city in Tamil Nadu, India|}} which produces
This article is about the city in Tamil Nadu, India. For other uses, see Ranipet (disambiguation).
As you can see Ranipet (disambiguation) is in red, as there is no such page, so any reader clicking on that link is frustrated at wasting their time, going nowhere. - Arjayay (talk) 08:26, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

The current reference for DOB is not accessible (at least to me). This one from Firstpost, a Network 18 outlet, suggests that his birth year is 1973. Thoughts? OhNoitsJamie Talk 17:30, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Ohnoitsjamie - I can't access the cited source either. Firstpost is, generally, fairly reliable, or at least, not listed as unreliable. I've been looking for other sources, but most of these are on the WP:RSP list, so I'm struggling for any other reliable sources. Obviously the sudden interest is because today is his birthday, and I'm always suspicious about actors/actresses DoBs changing to make them younger, but I can't refute your firstpost ref. spelling correction for "Shafqat Amanat Ali"

Hi there! thanks for your spelling correction to the page for Shafqat Amanat Ali. you corrected "rigourously" to "rigorously" and that would be the correct US spelling. however, the page asks to use UK spellings, hence the extra "u." the whole page uses British spellings. :) Priyanka2330 (talk) 20:28, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Priyanka2330 as a Brit I'd like to think that I understand the principles of WP:ENGVAR, although I have been wrong before.
As per Wiktionary, Rigourously is not the British English version, it is a "non‐standard" spelling, which my spellcheck - set to British English - also identifies as a misspelling. It is also listed at The list of common misspellings - R.
Conversely rigorously is the "standard" spelling - so as per WP:COMMONALITY that is the spelling we use - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 21:05, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
thanks so much Arjayay! as you can see, I did not undo your edit w/o first asking you about it on your talk page. I stand corrected. It is fascinating that the commonly accepted US/UK spelling variation of rigor/rigour does not carry over to rigorous(ly)/rigourous(ly). one learns something new every day! I appreciate the help and clarification. :) Priyanka2330 (talk) 21:20, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Past tense

Hello, Arjayay. I have one question about this edit. Is "casted" not a past tense form of "cast'? That whole sentence has to be written in the past tense! Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 10:57, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

@Мастер Шторм: not Arjayay, but it is not. "Cast" is the correct form, see here. Veverve (talk) 11:38, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for correction my errors!

Hi Arjayay, you seem to find a duplicate word in virtually every article I write soon after I move them to the mainspace. Thanks for consistently saving me from my own mistakes. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 16:11, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

No worries Modussiccandi - it is what us Wikignomes do, but thanks for the thanks, it is nice to be appreciated.
I have been trying to understand the sheer numbers of such errors (not all by you!) for some time. Could you please tell me whether you use a spell/grammar checker? and also whether you edit on a phone or small tablet? (In my experience, duplicate words often occur at line end/line beginning, which there are more of on smaller screens) - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 16:23, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
I edit on a lap top and I very rarely use spell checkers (only before GA or FA candidacy or such). For me, these error come about when I pause to think about what I want to write. Sometimes I put down the article ("the"), think for a second, and then write my noun of choice plus article (e.g. 'the children'). That's how you get "the the children". Hope this helps. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 16:33, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

In need of feedback

Hello Arjayay. Could you give some feedback on Canon law of the Eastern Orthodox Church? Is the article accessible enough for you, as someone who does not have any background on the matter? Are the titles of the sections descriptive and precise enough? Is the article tidy, narrow and clear enough? Any other comment? Veverve (talk) 11:08, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Veverve - you are correct; I don't "have any background on the matter" and I'm not a new article reviewer either.
Overall it seems relatively clear, although to me, there are far too many quotations (about 45?). These quotations also make the lead, with multiple sets of square brackets to add in missing words, read awkwardly.
Finally, I'm not sure about the "with" in "Differences with civil law" and "Differences with canon laws of other Churches" - I think things are different from, or different to, not different with. Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 11:39, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
I have tried to reduce the number of quotes as much as I could. What do you say? Veverve (talk) 09:59, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
Hi Veverve - there are still about 40 quotes - which I still think is too many - and I don't see why you think they are needed as quotes. As you state "The canon law of the Eastern Orthodox Church is not codified" so, there is no definitive document that can be quoted, in order to be accurate - your quotations are just other writers' opinions.
As per MOS:QUOTE "Using too many quotes is incompatible with an encyclopedic writing style and may be a copyright infringement. It is generally recommended that content be written in Wikipedia editors' own words. Consider paraphrasing quotations into plain and concise text."
I suspect you are more used to writing in an essay/dissertation/thesis style, where more quotations are required, unlike the encyclopaedic writing style needed for Wikipedia.
I think your "Comparisons" section deals with my concern about "differences with" - but you now have 5 errors, producing a lot of red text in" Notes a"
Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 12:17, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
I am almost at my wit's end with those quotes. I have tried as much as I could to remove them, and the banner you put is blocking my DYK nomination. Do you think the banner can be removed now? Veverve (talk) 18:37, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
I'm sorry Veverve, but I really can't see much re-wording at all - I have removed the quotes from the lead, by rewording them, as an example, and have removed the over-quotation template, along with correcting several spelling and WP:ENGVAR errors. - Arjayay (talk) 20:03, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

Article Renaming Request

But to prevent people's from misunderstanding same university or not! Please correct it. Or Drop a message to me, If i need to change instead of you. Thanks, Regards 0"cleopatra"0 (talk) 14:00, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi 0"cleopatra"0 - please understand that English Wikipedia article names are not based on the "real" or the "official" name (please see WP:Official names) but are based on the WP:COMMONNAME in English. This often leads to long discussions/arguments - as an example from India, please see the 12 debates listed in the box at the top of Talk:Bangalore, which officially became Bengaluru in 2006, but we stick with Bangalore.
Assessing what the Common name in English is, can be quite difficult, but, to me as an English speaker, the existing name seems readily understandable and the proposed name less so. I suggest you first discuss the move at Talk:National University of Kharkiv, and, if, after say a month, you obtain consensus for the move, then apply at WP:Requested moves - best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 14:26, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

As per concluded article with detailed information & Verified references, still it redirected to its district. Can you just move into namespace & even if any users ask for discussion, can you do chat in talk page to stable the article. So, basically am asking you to please check out CSM Central School, Edassery and make stable in namespace with this name, without redirected to anywhere else... Waiting for your response. Thanks - 0"cleopatra"0 (talk) 14:45, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Sorry 0"cleopatra"0, User:JalenFolf's redirect of CSM Central School, Edassery was correct. It had no WP:Independent sources or WP:Reliable sources. All the references were to the schools own website and it was badly malformatted. Please read WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES particularly noting "Secondary schools are not presumed to be notable simply because they exist." What is so special about this school that it is "notable" enough to have an article? If it has been covered extensively, not just mentions or listings, by WP:Independent sources I suggest you recreate it as a draft article which will allow a reviewer to consider it. Nudging search?

Hi, I noticed this edit to an article I recently created. Curious what it was about -- was it not showing up on internal wiki searches? Or some external search engine? And if so, how does a null edit help? -Pete Forsyth (talk) 00:39, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pete Forsyth - fair question - and having looked it up, I used the wrong terminology.
At 16:07, 14 October 2021‎ I reworded "the the" as "to the" in that article. At 20:08, 15 October 2021‎ it was still appearing in the list of uses of "the the", along with 2 other changes of "the the", which I had made about the same time as that to South Florida Times.
I normally clean up uses of "the the" daily, and loading pages, to find that a search for "the the" gives no results, and then check the history, is annoying and time consuming. This used to happen far more frequently than it now does, and some years ago another editor explained that once an edit had been overlooked it would continue to be overlooked until the page was changed, so that the way around it was to make a minimal edit, such as adding or deleting a space.
In my edit summary I called it a WP:NULLEDIT, whereas, having now looked it up, I should have called it a WP:DUMMY edit - as is used when correcting an edit summary. Notwithstanding my terminological inexactitude, it cleared up the 3 edits that had been overlooked by the server for 28 hours, in a few seconds - Best wishes - Arjayay (talk) 11:32, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks much for the explanation, that makes perfect sense. And thanks for your diligent attention to the "the the" problem :) -Pete Forsyth (talk) 22:56, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

There was no lack of veracity in the edit made to the page "Keighley" concerning walking and cycling and the campaign to save Queensbury Tunnel:

The routes itself follows the former railway line and is progressing towards Keighley. The campaign is at

www.QueensburyTunnel.org

and the Sustrans route itself is at

https://www.sustrans.org.uk/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network/great-northern-railway-trail

I have therefore reversed your deletion of this, as it merely demies the public useful information, especially at a time when walking and cycling ae being encouraged, for environmental reasons, and as it pertains to Keighley.

I have no idea how to add the links to the page itself, but perhaps someone would assist by doing that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.52.199.11 (talk) 14:48, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

REPLY TO YOUR 'NEUTRAL POINT OF VIEW'

Hey, Arjayay, I think you are right on this point of neutrality but the fact is true that POK and Aksai Chin belong to India and ROC is the rightful government of Mainland China. It might interest you that we lost both these lands(POK AND AKSAI CHIN) because neutral thinkers and liberals only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamyankee.007 (talkcontribs) 11:47, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi Iamyankee.007 - Firstly, please sign all posts on talk pages (but NOT in articles) with 4 tildes ( ~~~~ ) which will add your signature and a timestamp
As for your comment, Wikipedia does not decide where international borders are, nor which claims over land are right or wrong. Wikipedia reports the de facto position, but also mentions any conflicting claims, without giving them WP:UNDUE weight.
The borders between India, Pakistan, China and Nepal, are well known for being disputed, and fought over, and Wikipedia is not a WP:SOAPBOX to air your particular opinion on the matter. Claims such as your statement that "the fact is true that POK and Aksai Chin belong to India " are simply NOT acceptable here. - Arjayay (talk) 12:06, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
