Thank you for the Support

Hello, I am Tony Wylie (Traptor12) and I just want to thank you for the support and warning you gave me for the new page I have created. I will try to improve the links and tags all I can. User:Traptor12 (talk) 19:25, 27 December 2012

Kayla Reeves

[edit]

Hello, thanks for the support and guidance. Can you help me with how to find / use better sources. This artist is a new and up and coming artist and there is little information on the web or in print about her. They are all primary sources. I have contacted her in person requestion some information. However this would be a primary source aswell and how can I best use that information, etc. I am very new at writing complete articles I usually just edit them. Thanks for your help. Firemedicmonkey (talk) 19:55, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I would love to help, but, as you say, it's unlikely that we can find good sources at this time. I shall have a look round though. Without sources, it could just be a little too early to add a page on Wiki (after all, one wouldn't be added, say, about myself) Also, although an up and coming artist, there surely will be printed sources which have not made their way online (local magazines, school reports, etc). Something to look out for.
Keeping the article to a minimum of what can be verified from third party sources is best, but first-hand sources can still be used, in my opinion (people lie about their own age is just one example as to why not, but it is unlikely to apply here). Actually, there is a help page on referencing: Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners - probably worth checking out.
What my research game me: People have videoed Kayla and mad a note about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsKhVOzRe7E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-yh3mkVcBU
http://musicfesteldorado.com/kaylareeves.html - a bit better than own fan page
http://www.trans-siberian.com/about/band.php - should be the first reference, together with a ref to the orchestra's wiki page.
Hope this helps at least a little! Best, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 20:15, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have done some editing. I removed the broken link to the high school year book page online, for the time being. I have contacted the high school and they will be forwarding me the information, I should be able to use the yearbook as a reliable secondary source. I also used the two sources you gave me in the article. I will agree that without much references that the article can not be very detailed however I believe that since the Trans-Siberian orchestra page is very detailed and many of the artists involved have at least a basic wiki to describe them Kayla deserves atleast that much. I also reviewed the tone of the article and edited it some. I believe that it is very balanced and neutral stating only facts not opinions. So I removed two of your tags but have left the tag showing that this article does need more citations and references. Thanks again for your help. Also what is the policy on using pictures posted to facebook. I know that the news uses them regularly citing the eula as anything posted to facebook is public domain. What is your take? Firemedicmonkey (talk) 21:00, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Golly, well done! I think Kayla should thank you for your diligence. Unfortunately I have done no research on whether using facebook pictures is legitimate and can't help you much with that. The wikimedia commons upload pages walks you through what is required (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard) in terms of licences, etc. That should assist you in doing your own research with google's help. Best of luck and thanks again for contributing as well as for talking to me. Anastasia Bykova (talk) 21:09, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article about Miron Babiak

[edit]

Hello Ana,

It's good that somebody is looks at the quality of the articles and thanks for the guidance.

Keep it in mind that the article is just a stub, therefore it's pretty much in progress. I can leave it for time being in a good state (a short and accurate description), but please don't delete the article yet for time being, I'm going to work in a sandbox to improve the facts in it. I will pass it to you for review once I am done with the initial information.

Thanks,

-Wojciech — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wdmeyer (talkcontribs) 20:11, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! In the future, it is best to write the article in sandbox first and then publish it on Wiki. Even if it is a work in progress, it benefits everyone if the page conforms to the minimum requirements from the beginning. Alternatively, some sort of indication of a work in progress helps everyone. (Otherwise, who knows if the author is going to do any work on it, and who is going to check?) I've put up some useful tags on the page for you to refer to, as well as a "work in progress" template. Best of luck, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 20:23, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Viraj Adhav

[edit]

Yes, Thank you very much for appreciating the article I made. But may I ask something? Are you interested on contributing to the Hindi dubbing actors as well as the Hindi dubbing database in general? The reason why I want to contribute is because, the Hindi voice actors aren't getting the credit that they deserve. BlueMario1016 (talk) 15:41, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I would be interested in contributing if I knew anything about Hindi voice actors. Do you contribute to the Hindi wiki (http://hi.wikipedia.org/)? The first place where these actors should have articles is there. Also, are there any groups with interests similar to yours? Mobilising people to gather information sounds efficient! Best wishes, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 20:51, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, the Hindi Wikipedia members are removing information for Hindi dubbing productions of foreign content, because they say that it's "not reliable and irrelevant", because there's no such website for a database for Hindi dubs of foreign content such as for movies or TV programs, whenever they are originally from the U.S. or from Japan. That's kinda sad. I wish there can somehow be a way to fix that. Sorry for the late reply, but I think someone should possibly make a Wikia contributing to Hindi dubs. But however, a lot of these foreign movies have more then one Hindi dub such as one for a theatrical release, which also passes on for a VCD release, and there's a TV version that have different Hindi voice actors. Movies like Avatar and Van Helsing had received two Hindi dubs. Also, sometimes TV shows would get dubbed in Hindi much later after their original region release. BlueMario1016 (talk) 14:33, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ana! First of all I would like to appologize for my "half-baked" article. I was at a library at that time, so I needed quickly write the basic, and a bit sloppy intro. Sometimes, I can't find proper references, no matter how much I look. So I need to rely on Fauna Europaea and Carabidae.org (previosly known under domain name of .pro), for all my ground beetle articles... Yes, I tried Google Books, but sometimes all they have is catalogues, which are pointless for such articles because they only list the scientific name, which I already have (and more). I do sometimes can find images of the species on YouTube, Flickr, or Bug Guide, but even then they either don't have it, or/and I need to use those for the external links. Some trusted sites don't carry any size or habitat, so I end up writing substubs instead... If there will be more trusted sites that you know, please send them to me and I will be more then happy to improve my article! Another thing, sorry for my maybe bad English. My native language is Russian, if you want to, you can talk Russian to me (as far as I can tell by your name), you are somewhere from there...--Mishae (talk) 20:59, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Sounds like you are extremely diligent to me, well done. Don't apologize for anything, my job was to point out what needed to be added and you did that very well indeed. Now others can find and enjoy your article and read further, if they want. Best wishes Anastasia Bykova (talk) 21:04, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please help Expand Esteban Escobar aka Steven Escobar Wikipedia article

[edit]

Hi Ana,

I am new on here but I think my article should not be deleted, you should help in expand it. Here is more information: Steven Escobar is the Executive Editor-In-Chief of Diversity News Magazine. Esteban “Steven” Escobar is also the Producer, Director of Diversity News TV, the host of Diversity News Radio, on Air with Steven Escobar, the President of Diversity News Publications and he owns E.E.Enterprises an affiliate of The Diversity News Publications Family of Companies.

He is an editor like you and he deserve to be noted here on Wikipedia. Thank you. See my article, [DELETED Anastasia Bykova (talk) 01:35, 29 December 2012 (UTC)] — Preceding unsigned comment added by WorldWideVital (talkcontribs) 23:15, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I could help expand it, but you clearly know much more about him than I. All you need to do is to organise the article - lots of external sources backing up what you say, lots of reference citations, a nice structure and very factual style - that's all you need (it's not that hard, I promise). Use the wiki help pages (above) to learn how. I am happy to give you a hand if you get stuck with anything. Also, it's always best to make the article in your sandbox before publishing it - that way you can perfect the basics and send out into the world something that conforms to the minimum wiki requirements. If you do decide to make the article properly, also make sure to read this: Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons. And in any case remember: it is naughty to try to publish a wiki article about yourself. Good luck, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 00:29, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Ana, I am new on Wikepedia and it will be nice if you can help with the structure of the article. I can add links and references. Thank you, please help. I just want to contribute to Wikepedia, but if you are going to delete stuff them that is so sad. Thank you, Alex — Preceding unsigned comment added by WorldWideVital (talkcontribs) 09:44, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again. Before you start calling what other people do sad, inform yourself. I have put up an article about Escobar which I formatted myself and researched links for myself. I have no power to delete articles, I merely try to flag up issues and help others do their job. Since I wrote the article to help you, and after doing all the research, it transpired that Escobar, unfortunately, does not appear to have sufficient notability. The notability requirement has to do with, in a nutshell, various independent sources writing about the subject. I tried hard to find them, but nearly everything written about the subject is not from an independent source (mostly press releases, websites where one can publish oneself, one's own published interviews, etc etc). The couple of independent sources I did find, merely mention the subject's name in some context or other. Please see the notability guidelines here: notability criteria. If you are trying to publish an article [Wikipedia:COI|about yourself], please don't. Once other independent sources start to take great interest in you (and if you work hard in life, you can make that happen), notability will come and wiki will be edited. Hope this helps. Best wishes, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 14:43, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why removal threat?

[edit]

Hi Ana,

thanks for the comment on the AWG-LCA article. It is a really important body and a shame that there is no article on it yet. So please don't delete it. I wonder why the "unreferenced" template includes the threat of removal. In most cases, a simple google search will give you elements to improve the existing article, instead of deleting it. Do you think I should raise this issue, so that less articles that could be expanded upon get deleted?

best wishes,

--Kjell.kuehne (talk) 00:14, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is unfortunate if you feel unreferenced and unsubstantiated things written on wikipedia should not be deleted, or substantiated as quickly as possible, just because one can do the research for oneself. One could do that research without wikipedia, the whole thing would become pointless. If one decided to write an article, I believe that oneshould research the subject and provide proof (or a way to get some sort of proof, in the form of references) for the things one writes. If someone else decides to expand that article, they should to the same. After all, we want to make it easy for people to access information in general and quickly ensure it's true, not make it easy for them to access our say-so.
Hope this makes sense as a viewpoint! I think it's great that you have decided to contribute to the project, more people should. Best wishes, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 00:20, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PS: no-one is about to delete your article, and I certainly can't. PPS: I agree that articles shouldn't be deleted hastily if they are legitimate, but should be improved! And the unref template, I think, really refers to material that is challenged (when it threatens deletion). Presumably whoever challenges it should do so on the basis of their googly research (in which case, if it's as you say legitimate information - they won't challenge it (hopefully)).
Yes, that's what I meant: the wikipedia volunteer should do a quick google search and improve the article instead of deleting it. I often start articles that I know are needed, but I am not too good with the whole referencing procedure and prefer to leave that to others. ;) --Kjell Kühne 05:16, 30 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kjell.kuehne (talkcontribs)
I agree with you, it's a collaborative project. However, let me ask you this: if you can't reference the article, how do you know that everything you put in it is true? ;-) I thought of another thing the other day: if you would like to ref quickly, you can just stick some URLs down. It's not great practice, but then the next person can tidy up. That seems a good compromise. Instead of the author having to slave away at the code. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it's really useful! Best wishes, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 11:09, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Lepidobero sinensis

[edit]

Ana,

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I do question the orphan tag as the article is linked from the article "Cottidae" (albeit through a redirect) which means that it does not fall under the condition of not being linked to by any other articles. Correct me if I am wrong, but that seems to have been a recent change in the orphan criteria as I seem to recall it formerly being an article that was linked to by few or no other articles. As for the in-line references, that can actually be a quick fix to my template (I already started doing that for articles on genera containing more than one species). I generally haven't used in-line references since in most cases all of the information is from one source which I included under References.

Again, Thank you

Divingpetrel (talk) 03:13, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I marked as orphan as the system auto recognised the article as an orphan, so apologize if that's incorrect! I suspect that redirects don't really count (they are not the point of article-linking after all, but I haven't actually checked.) As for references, you're right. With such a short article, one link is pretty clear. But, perhaps, in line citations would be useful if anyone went to expand the article. Either way, it's all pedantry in this case! Thank you for sharing your thoughts & posting! Best wishes, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 03:16, 29 December 2012 (UTC) PS: I adore your articles in particular, because I know nothing of the subject, but enjoy finding out :-)[reply]

Thank you very much Ana,

I have also learned a lot from doing these. I used to do a lot of games on the computer and wasted hours gaining nothing. I find that this, while also taking hours on the computer, at least contributes to the knowledge of mankind. I notice that do translations between English and Russian. I have a few pages that I would like to see translated into English. Would you be willing to work on those?

Regards,

Divingpetrel (talk) 15:52, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'd love to help out with translation. I need the practice! Let me know which ones and I'm sure I'll find some time to work on them. And I agree on the games/wiki - I used to play games a lot and having given up feel really great about it. Real life is fabulous and shouldn't be missed, whilst helping out with research is a nice way to learn things. Kind regards, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 11:15, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, so far the articles of particular interest to my work are: Андрияшев, Анатолий Петрович (ru), Книпович, Николай Михайлович (ru), Поллини, Чиро (ru), Расс, Теодор Саулович (ru), Световидов, Анатолий Николаевич (ru) and Талиев, Дмитрий Николаевич (ru)

I will probably be encountering others as I progress. Thank you very much, it is much appreciated.Divingpetrel (talk) 15:35, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've drafted the first one, so you can go ahead and reword some of the technical terms so that they actually make sense. I've also expanded the page with my own research instead of only translating. Best, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 13:38, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sri Koil Kanthadai Sudhasatvam Sirupuliyur Koil Annan Swamy Thirumaligai is one of the oldest sri vaishnava institution. The institution is active since 1000 years. Hello Ana, thank you for your curation. But what seems to be wrong with my spelling? I have created more than a hundred pages and I have never received this tag. NordhornerII (talk)_The man from Nordhorn 03:59, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Nothing wrong with spelling, as far as I can see. Just the weird looking quotation marks probably want tidying up. The tag is general, I believe (copy editing). Sorry for not being clear! Best, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 04:02, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Ana, you are right about my oversight in regards to the quotation marks. I used different word processors for different parts of this article and one of them inserted German question marks. In German the mark at the quote's beginning is always low. I forgot to fix that in time but I did it meanwhile. So I take the liberty to remove the tag. Thanks for making me read the article again. NordhornerII (talk)_The man from Nordhorn 11:59, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! Of course, take any tag off once it no longer applies. I have no personal attachment to it :-) I actually really like the german quotation marks, I think they make the text look fancy. I often use it in handwriting, if it's for a greetings card or something like that. Thank you, best wishes, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 12:59, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion about Another Me (EP)

[edit]

Hi Ana, Thanks for informing me about the speedy deletion. I'm a new user to wikipedia and a little unfamiliar with everything, so sorry if I caused any inconvenience. I definitely want to make an more in-depth article about the artist and his work. For now, I think I will gather all the information and pictures first before creating the article. Also, I have been trying to upload a image related to that article, but I wasn't able to since the upload button was locked for me. Is it because I'm a new user? Thanks :) Skywonders (talk) 04:14, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! No inconvenience at all, thank you for sending me a message. I would suggest that you start with the artist. You can use your Sandbox (Wikipedia:About_the_Sandbox) to set the article up as you like it before actually posting it. Being about a living person, your article will need to comply with the relevant guidelines: Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Essentially, be impartial and factual and make sure to cite plenty of independent sources for the information (there is a notability requirement: Wikipedia:Notability (people)). Hope this helps at all!
As for upload button, I'm not sure I can help (I don't even know where it is!) For images, I use wiki commons (is that what you tried?) and just search for what is already available. Alternatively, google images has Advanced Settings for filtering imaged by licence. Best of luck, let me know if I can help with anything else, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 04:22, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsense speedies

[edit]

Thanks for patrolling new pages, but please be careful about using WP:CSD#G1 nonsense. That is only for "incoherent text or gibberish with no meaningful content or history" like "&^TU@"%%~!*~" or "WTF??? YAaaayyyy LOL!!!!!!" The definition excludes "poor writing, partisan screeds, obscene remarks, implausible theories, vandalism and hoaxes, fictional material, coherent non-English material, and poorly translated material". The author of something like Sri Koil Kanthadai Sudhasatvam Sirupuliyur Koil Annan Swamy Thirumaligai (which I have deleted as copyvio) might well be offended to see it tagged as "nonsense."

There is good advice for speedy taggers at WP:10CSD and WP:A7M. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 10:53, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the advice; the tag is rather abrasive. Best, Anastasia Bykova (talk) 14:21, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ana,

Thanks for your help with the Keshet Eilon entry.

I have added a few links to the page. Could you please look and see if it is done correctly? If so - I would like to know whether the orphan tag should be removed.

Your appreciation on an article I had written

[edit]

Hello Ana, Last December, I wrote this article Breton soccer teams in New York and you reviewed it, asking for some modifications / improvements. This is what I and other contributors have tried to do since then, but I have many doubts about the last modification on 8/27. I am not sure what was written at that particular time matches Wikipedia articles' expectations. Based on your sound experience, may you review it and tell me your thought please? Thanks! It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Your draft article, Draft:BLOK Container Systems

[edit]

Hello, Ana Bykova. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "BLOK Container Systems".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 20:03, 16 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
