National varieties of English
Hello. In a recent edit to the page Water Works Park (Tampa, Florida), you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. Zeng8r (talk) 18:24, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- I usually default to ddmmyy. This is a local Florida park so better to go to mmddyyy. I live here in Tampa too. --Akrasia25 (talk) 19:01, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
- Excellent, I'm glad to see another local editor working on local articles. However, with regards to formatting, you've twice changed the dates in the references at Water Works Park (Tampa, Florida) to day-month-year, which is not standard American English, while you (properly) changed them to month-day-year at Cuban sandwich. Am I missing something? Zeng8r (talk) 19:24, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Featuring your work on Wikipedia's front page: DYKs
Thank you for your recent articles, including Michał Głowiński, which I read with interest. When you create an extensive and well referenced article, you may want to have it featured on Wikipedia's main page in the Did You Know section. Articles included there will be read by thousands of our viewers. To do so, add your article to the list at T:TDYK. This can be also done through this helpful user script: User:SD0001/DYK-helper. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages
Thank you for your recent articles, including Michał Głowiński, which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Thanks to them, WikiProject members are more easily able to defend your work from deletion, or simply help try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information about using those talk page templates. Introducing myself
Hi I just wanted to say it's great to meet other editors, and I wanted to let you know that your intentions are well-meaning regarding the editing of NCCIH article, and that I too, respect science, the scientific method, and believe many forms of alternative medicine can be harmful and it is in the public interest for them to know that. Regarding the examples box, however, it's one example of NPOV violations that occur on these alternative medicine articles, where a large portion of statements are cherry-picked, often from "skeptics" blogs and podcasts. In the examples, it makes sense to show examples of experiments that had no effect, and it makes sense, proportionately, to show at least one that did have positive effects. That would provide a better sampling for a reader. I would love to hear your thoughts about that, though. Pyrrho the Skeptic (talk) 18:00, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Happy to have you here and please keep involved. It is an amazing hobby for me. Besides the other links I posted on the talk page I enjoy (re)reading WP:MEDRS for what constitutes reliable sources for health claims, and WP:FRINGE and WP:PSCI for guidance on neutrality for fringe topics such as this.
Not sure why one example would be a good thing to profile "show at least one that did have positive effects" --Akrasia25 (talk) 19:12, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'll give it another shot to explain. How is it helpful to anyone to have 100% of examples selected that show funded studies that were inconclusive or did not show results, when it might be helpful to know that a sizeable percentage resulted in interesting and helpful findings about meditation or yoga, etc.? In looking through the history of studies funded by the organization, only a very small percentage of them are studies of things like prayer, and distance healing, and those are given undue weight. There is nothing wrong with pointing out criticisms of the org in this article. But the box is intended for "examples" of their funded research, and those should not be cherry-picked (I'm sure you can admit that they are) to show 100% failure of the funding used, which is absolutely not the case. Pyrrho the Skeptic (talk) 19:32, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

Short descriptions
G'day Akrasia25! I have noticed you changing some short descriptions on articles, and wondered if you had read WP:SHORTDESC? Importantly, WP:SDLENGTH which specifies that a short description should be short (ie no more than about 40 characters). Please try to stick close to those parameters and the other guidance on that page when making changes to short descriptions. Thanks so much, and enjoy your editing! Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:55, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry for reverting some of your edits ... I had no idea about Wikipedia:Short description#"None" as a short description until now! I've self-reverted. Graham87 03:56, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- Not a problem. I just found out about it myself reading the project page. Makes sense doesn’t it? Some titles the pages are the short description and pretty obvious. Must have been a lot of reverting. Akrasia25 (talk) 09:42, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah it does make sense. Fortunately I'd only reverted you on six pages before I came to my senses. Graham87 13:51, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Short descriptions
You appear to be doing unhelpful edits to short descriptions, such as these:
- 9 August 2021 1037841640 - «Changing short description from "A smooth, complex affine variety admits a Morse function" to "smooth, complex affine variety admits a Morse function" Shortdesc helper)»
- 9 August 2021 1037841470 - «Changing short description from "A bound on the analytic rank of an elliptic curve in terms of its conductor" to "bound in mathematics" Shortdesc helper)»
- 9 August 2021 1037840642 - «Changing short description from "A certain quartic has a solution if it has a solution in an extension of odd degree" to "mathematical theorem" Shortdesc helper)»
- 9 August 2021 1037840606 - «Changing short description from "A smooth, complex affine variety admits a Morse function" to "mathematical theorem" Shortdesc helper)»
Please see David Eppstein's comment in this task. If I have made a mistake, please ping me and let me know. Thanks! ― Qwerfjkltalk 06:55, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Qwerfjkl: That is fine. I read WP:SDNOTDEF and specifically these
- avoid jargon, and use simple, readily comprehensible terms that do not require pre-existing detailed knowledge of the subject
- avoid duplicating information that is already in the title (but don't worry too much if you need to repeat a word or two for context)
- start with the most important information (mobile applications may truncate long descriptions).
But that is fine. I don't really care.--Akrasia25 (talk) 10:10, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

Double-tuned amplifier
This is the third time you have added an unacceptable short description to this article, and the second time you have added exactly the same thing. Please don't edit war over this. SpinningSpark 20:46, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Sorry I didn’t remember that I had already tried to put in a short description to this article. Can you put one one in since I obviously don’t know what it is? The article is a GA and we are trying to put in a SD for every article and this one keeps coming up in the list. Someone else is likely to come along and attempt it too. Akrasia25 (talk) 21:03, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- I did (and a shorter one than yours), but it immediately got overwritten with the same inane stuff by somebody else. I'm not saying it is not a tuned amplifier. It is. I'm saying that is worthless as a short description. The article title already tells you that. SpinningSpark 21:32, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- I think I see the problem. Your SD edit is not actually being published (?!). So it still shows up as being empty and I come along with my list and see an empty SD. I can publish it for you but "tuned amplifier with transformer coupling between the amplifier stages" is 70 characters long and SD should be less than 40 characters. What would you like it to say?--Akrasia25 (talk) 19:33, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- That "somebody else" was me, and you're right, it was rather inane now that I think about it. However, your proposal "
Amplifier tuned on both sides of the stage coupling transformers
" at 64 characters wasn't any better than the one originally inserted by Akrasia25. The solution here is to insert "{{Short description|none}}". Some articles simply don't need one when their title is self-explanatory. --GoneIn60 (talk) 04:17, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- I’ve done that before by putting in "none" so I’m open to do that here as well. Maybe I should cut and paste this to the talk page of the article as well so it doesn’t get reverted again. Everybody OK with that? Akrasia25 (talk) 08:13, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- Go for it, but realize that drive-by editors rarely look at the talk page first. --GoneIn60 (talk) 19:19, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

"None"
Akrasia25, that four-letter word is possibly not the most helpful short description imaginable, and there are many imaginable replies to its creation. I'll just say that it would be much appreciated if you could either write a few words of short desc based on each article's lead – not difficult, and not time-consuming, if you feel like editing such things – or to leave well alone if you do not. Many thanks for your understanding and co-operation, Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:52, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- I guess you do not know aboutWP:SDNONE If an article title is sufficiently detailed that an additional short description would not be helpful, e.g. Alpine skiing at the 1960 Winter Olympics – Men's downhill, a description of "none" should be used to remove the article from the missing-description tracking categories, thus: .--Akrasia25 (talk) 13:56, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- Well, removing an article from a missing-description list by supplying an intentionally-null and totally useless description is actually worse than useless. Other editors may be using the missing-description list to find articles that need a description, and if so, you might be fouling up their search, don't you think? I'd say this was rapid progress in a backwards direction. Also, please don't split discussions across 2 or more talk pages, as it makes them hard to follow. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:05, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

If you have a specific article that could have used a better SD please go ahead but my point stands that NONE is the agreed WP policy on many articles with good descriptive titles. NONE is not a totally useless description in many cases. --Akrasia25 (talk) 14:11, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Bibliography
Bibliographies, often combined with shortened inline footnotes linked by Template:Sfn, are found in a great many articles in Wikipedia. They are all but standard for articles about significant aircraft types (eg Airbus A340, Boeing 767) and ships (eg SS Normandie and RMS Olympic), and are also common in articles about automobile models (eg Brabham BT49 and Lexus LS).
Over many years, I have added many bibliographies to Wikipedia articles about automobiles and ships, and never once has such a bibliography been deleted.
Combining shortened inline footnotes with a bibliography is usually superior to having nothing more than inline footnotes, partly because a bibliography provides a more easily accessible list of printed sources than a references section populated only by a mess of assorted inline references (compare, eg, the Brabham BT49 article with the 300 SL article in its present state), and partly because a bibliography can include other sources that are not (yet) the subject of inline footnotes.
I do not consider WP:NOTDIRECTORY to be relevant to bibliographies, except where it says, right at the end, that "... for example, Wikipedia should not include a list of all books published by HarperCollins but may include a bibliography of books written by HarperCollins author Veronica Roth." That comment, in fact, simply emphasises the whole point of a bibliography in Wikipedia: to provide the reader with an easily accessible list of books on, or written by, the subject of the article. I have been a Wikipedia editor for more than a decade, and when I tell people that I edit Wikipedia, they often reply that the aspect of Wikipedia they find most useful is that Wikipedia articles provide them with easily accessible information about reliable sources on the subject matter of the relevant article.
I cannot agree that the articles on the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and the 300 SLR are not candidates for GA or higher. The 300 SL is one of the most famous road cars ever made, and the 300 SLR is a more famous race car than the Brabham BT49, which has long been the subject of a GA article. Adding a bibliography to the 300 SL and SLR articles is one of the steps editors would normally take to improve an article that might eventually be GA. With that in mind, I intend, in the near future, to rearrange the references section of the 300 SL article, to add to the bibliography most of the books presently included in the inline references, and to link those books with the inline references using Template:Sfn. The 300 SLR article is even more in need of a referencing upgrade (as stated in the hatnote to that article): at the moment, almost none of its content is properly referenced, and a copyeditor could therefore justifiably delete almost all of that content. If you want to link the bibliography in either article to inline footnotes, then you are welcome to do so, preferably using Template:Sfn to make it easier for readers to move from the inline citation to the cited work in the bibliography.
As for the particular books I have so far included in the two bibliographies I added, these are all well-known books written and published this century by a well-known and respected author the subject of a Wikipedia article of his own (Karl Ludvigsen). They are all still available for purchase brand new. No doubt there are other books that could be added to at least the 300 SL bibliography and linked to inline citations using Template:Sfn, but even so, that would not justify the deletion of the sources I have added. Invitation to take part in a survey about medical topics on Wikipedia
Dear fellow editor,
I am Piotr Konieczny, a sociologist of new media at Hanyang University (and User:Piotrus on Wikipedia). I would like to better understand Wikipedia's volunteers who edit medical topics, many associated with the WikiProject Medicine, and known to create some of the highest quality content on Wikipedia. I hope that the lessons I can learn from you that I will present to the academic audience will benefit both the WikiProject Medicine (improving your understanding of yourself and helping to promote it and attract new volunteers) and the wider world of medical volunteering and academia. Open access copy of the resulting research will be made available at WikiProject's Medicine upon the completion of the project.
All questions are optional. The survey is divided into 4 parts: 1 - Brief description of yourself; 2 - Questions about your volunteering; 3 - Questions about WikiProject Medicine and 4 - Questions about Wikipedia's coverage of medical topics.
Please note that by filling out this questionnaire, you consent to participate in this research. The survey is anonymous and all personal details relevant to your experience will be kept private and will not be transferred to any third party.
I appreciate your support of this research and thank you in advance for taking the time to participate and share your experiences! If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at my Wikipedia user page or through my email listed on the survey page (or by Wikipedia email this user function).
The survey is accessible through the LINK HERE.

Mercedes 300 SL
Hello
Why was the reference regardig Karajan ownership of a Mercedes 300 SL was taken out ? The reference as very clear ? Am I wrong? Regards Mcbranco — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcbranco (talk • contribs) 15:34, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
- The reference listed is a bare URL and does not have things like title, author, date. Can you see the template pull down menu? That makes it easier to enter these. I hope that helps.--Akrasia25 (talk) 02:29, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

Rejuvenate WikiProject Skepticism
Hello - my name is Susan Gerbic (Sgerbic) and I'm writing to you because at some point you joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism. This might have been months ago - or even years ago. With the best of intentions the project was created years ago, and sadly like many WikiProjects has started to go dormant. A group of us are attempting to revitalize the Skepticism project, already we have begun to clean up the main page and I've just redone the participant page. No one is in charge of this project, it is member directed, which might have been the reason it almost went dormant. We are attempting to bring back conversations on the talk page and have two subprojects as well, in the hopes that it might spark involvement and a way of getting to know each other better. One was created several years ago but is very well organized and a lot of progress was made, Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skeptical organisations in Europe. The other I created a couple weeks ago, it is very simple and has a silly name Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skepticism Stub Sub-Project Project (SSSPP). This sub-project runs from March 1 to June 1, 2022. We are attempting to rewrite skepticism stubs and add them to this list. As you can see we have already made progress.
The reason I'm writing to you now is because we would love to have you come back to the project and become involved, either by working on one of the sub-projects, proposing your own (and managing it), or just hanging out on the talk page getting to know the other editors and maybe donate some of your wisdom to some of the conversations. As I said, no one is in charge, so if you have something in mind you would like to see done, please suggest it on the talk page and hopefully others will agree. Please add the project to your watchlist, update your personal user page showing you are a proud member of WikiProject Skepticism. And DIVE in, this is what the work list looks like [1] frightening at first glance, but we have already started chipping away at it.
The Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Participants page has gone though a giant change - you may want to update your information. And of course if this project no longer interests you, please remove your name from the participant list, we would hate to see you go, but completely understand.
Thank you for your time, I hope to edit with you in the future.Sgerbic (talk) 06:46, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

Confederate Flag page
Why do you keep undoing my edit on the "confederate flags" page? I am trying to get rid of any accusation of racism. The flag is not "a symbol of racism", but it is true that many believe it to be as such. Please stop reverting that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aceplante (talk • contribs) 23:38, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- My talk page is not the place to discuss a particular edit. I am not the only editor who disagrees with you so please watch out for the three revert rule which you are now against. Reach consensus on this issue on the article's talk page.--Akrasia25 (talk) 12:28, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

Reverting some double links
Hello, I'm in the process of reverting some links you made on Lepidoptera articles. Where either the scientific or common name is already linked it's not necessary or helpful to link the other one. A reader would see two links and think they must go to different places, then would be confused. Sorry to be lighting up your revert list. SchreiberBike | ⌨ 21:38, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

List of museums in Kosovo moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, List of museums in Kosovo, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
