Reversion on Ranger's Apprentice page

I noticed that an individual had made modifications to the article Ranger's_Apprentice and you reverted it to its previous condition, see link Diff between the versions at question . The individual not only added several notes of interest, but fixed several inaccuracies. I understand that you reverted it because it seemed to add fluff to the article. I am just giving you a heads up that I am going to not revert to the previous changes, but incorporate them into an addition and fixes to the article. I hope the changes that I will make are amiable to you. Jab843 (talk) 03:47, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Sure, that is fine. Since I'm unfamiliar with the plot, I should refrain from reverting in the future. Thank you for letting me know. Airplaneman 03:49, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

WP:NASCAR Newsletter (October)

Delivered by MessageDeliveryBot on behalf of WikiProject NASCAR at 00:06, 26 October 2010 (UTC).

Page deleted - why?

You have deleted my page October2003 which I believe I was working on in my page space so that I could continue to improve the quality and content of this page before publishing to Wiki. I would like to know why you have deleted it. Was I building the page in the wrong work area?

You also deleted the page with the reasoning of ambiguous / promotional content. I would like to know how the content for the individual I was writing this page on is any different to the content found out the following http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Arno as I copied the same style of factual content.

Your comments on this would be appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by October2003 (talkcontribs) 14:39, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi October2003. Hm... that page wasn't a good one to base anything off of :/. Please make sure that the page meets WP:BIO; it doesn't look like any of the companies he has founded have pages on Wikipedia (or qualify for one), unlike Arno. Additionally, it read like a resume, focusing solely on his career and public appearances. Take a look at one of our featured biographies, for example, Barack Obama, which is something better to strive towards. The article is well-sourced and covers his whole life, not just his political career. If you're still interested in creating the article, I'd be more than happy to restore the page if you can find some other information to make it a more complete biography, making sure it meets without a doubt WP:BIO. 506th Infantry Regiment

Notice you'd removed the (United States) from the end since there are no other 506th Infantry Regiments listed, so no disambiguation is required. I'm curious if consistency with the other regimental article titles (502nd Infantry Regiment (United States) and 504th Infantry Regiment (United States), for example) is reason enough to leave the unneccesary disambiguation intact. I think it is, as we would otherwise need to go through every such regimental article and change the titles on those without another article of similar name. Interested in your thoughts. --Habap (talk) 13:59, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

The bad thing about having changed that article title is that now all the links to 506th Infantry Regiment (United States) show as dead links, so every one has to be edited to remove the (United States) and leave it as 506th Infantry Regiment. --Habap (talk) 16:44, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
That is just one of the humdrum activities editors sometimes have to engage in. I spent most of the morning fixing links to avoid redirects. Tomorrow, I will probably finish the ones that remain. This sort of thing goes on all the time. Consistency with other similarly named articles is nice, but not necessary. If those other articles are unnecessarily disambiguated then, yes, they should be changed as well. But, changing 506th back seems unnecessarily time-consuming, especially since it would mean all the links I changed today would have to be changed back. As I said on your talk page, there were at least 5 redirects produced by various page moves involving 506th, which is really absurd. When pages are moved, editors need to take it upon themselves to change the links, which is time-consuming and boring, but must be done. Thanks. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 17:18, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Virtually every US military unit was changed to include 'pre-emptive disambiguation' around January of 2007. It was a lot of work and it seems comical to go and undo all that work just because 3 editors have agreed that it should be done despite the decision made 3 years ago. I will search to see if I can find the discussion that was carried out by the Military History Wikiproject for clarification. --Habap (talk) 18:23, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Here is the discussion by the WikiProject Military history. I've posted on the talk page for the Wikiproject to see if further discussion or changes to all such articles is desired. --Habap (talk) 18:49, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello, and nice to meet you, Habap. I wasn't aware of the discussion and am willing to revert my move per the discussion for standardization that occurred three years ago. I'll keep tabs on the discussion. Airplaneman 23:45, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Nice to meet you as well. I'm waiting on response from RepublicanJacobite, as there is a lot of work involved in undoing the changes if consensus is that they ought to be undone. --Habap (talk) 13:20, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of Beta Lambda Zeta page

Hi,

Just contacting you to request reinstatement of the Beta Lambda Zeta social fraternity page. The page provides information regarding the fraternity and its history, so it does contain value. The page is also linked to several others, notably the Emory and Henry College page and the Frank Rowlett page.

Thanks, geosalamander —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geosalamander (talkcontribs) 22:23, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. When adding comments to talk pages, please remember to sign your posts with four tildes like this: ~~~~. Your article was deleted because it was about a group or club, and did not indicate the importance or significance of the subject. I invite you to create a userspace draft, and I'd be willing to help, if you can find reliable sources to indicate notability. Thanks, Mono 03:55, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Request

Hello. Before moving the article List of characters in the Hunger Games trilogy to its current place, it was in my userspace under the title of "User:List of Characters in the Hunger Games trilogy". I was creating the article in that userspace with the help of one other editor, who posted a comment on the talk page of the soon-to-be article, therefore in User talk:Glimmer721/List of Characters in the Hunger Games trilogy, which used to exist (I removed it) as a redirect to Talk:List of characters in the Hunger Games trilogy. So when I archived my talk page, it searched everything beginning with User talk:Glimmer721 and is under the impression that User talk:Glimmer721/List of Characters in the Hunger Games trilogy is a former archive of mine. Could you please delete User talk:Glimmer721/List of Characters in the Hunger Games trilogy for me please to prevent this confusion? Thanks, Glimmer721 talk 01:15, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Sure, done :). You can add {{db-u1}} in the future to request deletion of a userpage (see WP:U1 for more info). It will be listed here, and an admin will get to it eventually. Happy editing, Airplaneman 18:42, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. But it still shows up in my archive box--how do I get it out of there? --Glimmer721 talk 14:25, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
I think it should resolve itself before long (probably during the next archival by the bot). If the bot makes a pass and it's still there, I'm not sure what it is. Airplaneman 22:53, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

I don't recall requesting this to be deleted... Jolly Ω Janner 20:05, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Restored. Train2104 (talk · contribs) interpreted it your blanking as a request to delete (I did check the page history and see your edit summary, though). Nice to meet you, BTW. Airplaneman 20:08, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Likewise, it's been a pleasure meeting you. I was supposed to edit that talk page earlier, but it slipped through the net as not being within Category:Devon. Take care! Jolly Ω Janner 20:21, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, and nice edit summary. :) Do you know any type of formatting template or something that can put tables into two different layers? Such as two on the top (one-left, one-right), then one in the middle below it? Nascar1996 03:02, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for Twinkle recommendation!

Such a lifesaver!!!! Is there a way to add "New Pages" to the interaction box on a skin? It was there for the CologneBlue skin, but that skin does not seem to work with Twinkle. jsfouche (talk) 06:10, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

No problem :). Are you referring to the monobook (old) skin as "CologneBlue"? And is the script you're referring to User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js? If so, the script is not working because you haven't created User:Jsfouche/vector.js, your script page for the new Vector skin. An easy way to do this would be to add
importScript('User:Jsfouche/monobook.js');
to your vector page, which will import all scripts from your monobook page. Airplaneman 06:00, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
P.S. I suggest you WP:ARCHIVE your talk page instead of blanking it. Airplaneman 06:01, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Inline Skating

Thanks for the help with the Inline Skating Categorization. Its looking really good now! and I'm really getting stuck into the sub-categories pages. Good stuff! Thanks!Geosak (talk) 16:02, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks for your input. I've been busy trying to get a battle cry going with people I know in the industry (inline skating) who could be excellent editors. Still trying to get people to commit, so I'm not going to startup a project just yet. There are 3-5 key players I'm still courting into joining me here on Wikipedia. I'll get there eventually and if/when I do I will poke you to see if you got the time to join us. If I get them involved there is a wealth of info to extract from these guys and we will need an experienced Wikian for sure! For now I'll just continue tidying up and getting it all in a accurate, relevant representation of inline skating (Aggressive skating mostly but I am sure other niches people will follow suit, hopefully). This hopefully will tempt them even more. Thats where I'm at right now. Thanks Air! Geosak (talk) 10:59, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, there has been massive amounts of speculation from IP users including a couple vandalisers. Since the hidden messages do not work, could the article be protected, or add the review thing to it? Nascar1996 14:06, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm still hesitant to protect it because there are good contribs from IPs as well. Since the page is well-watched, I'm not sure pending changes would help with preventing the speculation either. I know the bad additions are frustrating, but I'm afraid locking the page would hinder some potentially constructive contributions. Airplaneman 06:04, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
R'ed above as well, btw. Airplaneman 06:32, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Can you help me with User:Perseus, Son of Zeus/List of Heroes of Olympus characters, to be moved to List of Heroes of Olympus characters or List of The Heroes of Olympus characters, if you've read The Lost Hero! Thanks! Perseus!-Talk to me 17:44, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Perseus, it looks like the list is unfinished, so I will hold off on moving it until it's complete. Make sure there's no unnecessary overlap from the first series' character list, and that there is no "fancruft" (unnecessary detail: see WP:PLOT as well). I haven't read The Lost Hero, but plan on doing so. Regards, Airplaneman 05:55, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 October newsletter

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to New South Wales Casliber (submissions), with 560. Congratulations to our other four finalists – White Shadows (submissions), William S. Saturn (submissions), Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) and Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions). Also, congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.

Prizes will also be going to those who claimed the most points for different types of content in a single round. It was decided that the prizes would be awarded for those with the highest in a round, rather than overall, so that the finalists did not have an unfair advantage. Winning the featured article prize is New South Wales Casliber (submissions), for five featured articles in round 4. Winning the good article prize is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for eighty-one good articles in round 5. Winning the featured list prize is Connecticut Staxringold (submissions), for six featured lists in round 1. Winning the picture and sound award is Jujutacular (submissions), for four featured pictures in round 3. Winning the topic award is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), for forty-seven articles in various good topics in round 5. Winning the "did you know" award is New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), for over one hundred did you knows is round 5. Finally, winning the in the news award is Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions), for nineteen articles in the news in round three.

The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it. We hope that next year, however the Cup is working, and whoever is running it, it will be back, stronger and more popular than ever. Until then, goodbye and happy editing! MDS Technology

Can you temporarily restore the MDS Technology article and wait a few days before deleting articles after a notification? There's no need to hurry up the deletion after a notification was first sent. I've been busy and by some misfortune have forgotten to update the article with more relevant information; it's not the only article I pay attention to either. I'm going to update it momentarily. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Desagwan (talkcontribs) 11:09, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Deswagan. Since the article was put up for speedy deletion, it's usually deleted within a few hours of notification. Since it had been up since October 2, you have had time to work on it. I will restore it to a user subpage of yours so you can work on it in peace; it can be moved back to the article space when it's ready. Here is the link: User:Desagwan/MDS Technology. Please make sure the article clearly passess our corporation notability guidelines and check with me before re-publishing. Happy editing, Airplaneman 15:49, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

What do you think about the article now? Desagwan (talk) 02:39, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

It's better! I think it would survive a CSD tagging, but if you could add more information (company history, etc.), that would be great. Airplaneman 03:15, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

From the Editor

Hello and welcome to this, the third edition of our WikiProject's newsletter. In this month's newsletter, I encountered a problem, well, two problems actually. I needed some help with the production: suggestions and other writers. As with last month, if you have any suggestions for the newsletter, please add them at the Tips Desk. If you would like to write some of the next issue, that's even better! Just come go over to the main Newsletter page to see where you can help out, and of course, as always, please give us your feedback on this edition, on the talk page. Hello, Airplaneman. You have new messages at Jsfouche's talk page.
Message added 22:08, 1 November 2010 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I have created a few pages and edited several others. I am working on the Waterfalls project, too. It is A LOT of work to create an article from scratch and make sure links work, references are current and formatted.  :)

I was unsure about the talk page. I kinda thought it was just a chat, but I see how it can be useful to maintain it, so I will take your advice about archiving!

Thanks again for all your tutelage!! It is much appreciated. jsfouche ☽☾ talk 22:08, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

University of Dallas

Thanks for short term protection of the University of Dallas article, as per my request. As usual, the protect was placed 30 minutes after the non-discussion guy reverted my changes!  :) If you could find your way possible to revert his changes here, he might be forced to talk to me and we might settle this. If not, I will just wait until the block expires. Thanks. Student7 (talk) 22:20, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

It's always nice to meet new people, and guestbooks help that process. Yay, you like airplanes! When I created this account, I was fascinated with commercial airliners in particular. Since then, my tastes have broadened to include other types of airplanes as well. As for the user page design, thanks :) (I stole the shell from User:MuZemike). See you around! Protecting a mate wanting to peddle his POV? This game, apparently, was played in central NSW, and comes from the language of the area, from the one and only written source that exists, a book written by Ken Edwards, who is neither a historian nor an expert in indigenous languages, and who has not referenced where his story comes from. All of a sudden, this author of this wiki article is making a claim that the etching depicting a ball game in Victoria is the very same game that was supposedly being played in central NSW. Sorry, it all smacks of POV, and I'm not sure why he would be getting protection to continue peddling POV. Figghiu Beddu (talk) 22:10, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Hardly. I hadn't even met WLRoss (talk · contribs) before this incident, for which he requested protection at WP:RFPP. Go talk to him about it instead of wasting time undoing again and again. Continuous edit warring between you and him may either lead to blocks (for both of you, I don't care who is "right") or full-protection. Try it! Airplaneman 04:17, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

I'd be willing to help out, my grades have been going back up so I have more free time on Wikipedia now though obviously no time in the morning. Derild4921 02:58, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Wayne, I think you'll find that having someone, or a group of editors, to rely on, rather than one adopter, may do as much for you as an adopter. Airplaneman has many talk page stalkers, most of whom are always willing to help out. I am, of course, one of those tps and willing to help you. I do take on adoptees, but I'm not even as active as Airplaneman currently, and chances are that the same group of editors would end up helping you. Do you have any specific areas you are interested in learning about, or could you give us a general idea of the things you do know? PrincessofLlyr royal court 04:39, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
The adopt-a-user program is still being redesigned, but you can find a list of all available adopters at Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user/Adoptee's Area/Adopters. Simply message them on their talk page and ask to be adopted. If someone is listed as available and doesn’t adopt you, please let me know so I can change the status indicator. Thanks. Do you think they'll adopt somebody who fights vandalism on Huggle? WAYNEOLAJUWON 19:01, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Sure. No reason not to. Some people will be curious if you leave a basic "please adopt me" line, but if you fully explain why you want to be adopted and what you're interested in learning, probably someone will take the bait. PrincessofLlyr royal court 20:00, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Unprotection Request

Hi, I reviewed the history of the Michael Welner BLP and find no justification for protection so I requested unprotection and was advised to [ask you] about it first. I have not asked for an article to be protected or unprotected before and am not real familiar with the protocol. The BLP has only 1 instance of blatant vandalism that I could find and has never had an edit war nor much editing at all other than that by the Editor who requested protection, who is a new Editor with this being his/her single topic of editing,I think, and who might be overreacting to normal article development and the necessary inclusion of well-sourced criticism of a Subject at times. It looks like you've discussed it with Stewaj7 (talk · contribs); it seemed as though he was undoing multiple edits without much of an explanation over the course of a few days, and "overreacting" does seem to accurately describe what he was doing. I will go ahead and unprotect the article. Happy editing, Airplaneman 03:02, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
