Late Congrats On Adminship!

Hiya, it looks like you became an admin while I was on wikibreak! It's good to see you about! Set Sail For The Seven Seas 342° 51' 30" NET 22:51, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Glad to see you around as well :), Airplaneman 22:52, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Sierra Club

Thank you for the action you took on Sierra Club. I was trying my best to welcome and communicate with this new user/IP editor (I think it is one person). However I was having no success. Thanks again. If you have any suggestions about how I could have done better, that would be great. Is there a procedure to get quick help from an admin in a situation like this? Cullen328 (talk) 03:43, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Yea, looks like they weren't listening. I see you'd attempted discussion here; maybe you could provide a link to the talk page next time? Also, good response here! As far as I can tell, you the right thing, and I would not have done anything hugely different. As for requesting quick admin help, try an IRC channel such as this and this (the latter I would guess has more people). Noticeboards such as RFPP where you posted usually have responses within a few hours or as quick as a minute; it really depends. Another option would be to contact an admin on their talk page (check their contributions to see if they're online). That's all I can think of right now. Nice to meet you, by the way, and happy editing :) Airplaneman 22:11, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
The IP editor is back and I reverted once. I appreciate your detailed response and would be grateful if you could keep an eye on this. Thanks. Cullen328 (talk) 17:01, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
This is annoying. I consider myself involved so I won't protect it myself; I will send a message to the IP(s). If it continues, another semi-protection seems appropriate. Airplaneman 22:58, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Suggestions?

Hi Airplaneman, since you've not made any edits on the Simple English Wikipedia recently, I suppose that you've not received my message on your page. I've started editing on the Simple English Wikipedia, but as far as I know, new articles are rare on that wiki, so I need some suggestions on what to do there.

P.S. Is Huggle or Igloo better? I'm considering to revert vandalism that Cluebot misses, such as this one that I found by chance.
P.P.S. Is there any way to create links to historic articles like the one above without using the external link markup? Sorry if I've asked too much. I am a violinisttalk to me here! 11:51, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

If you use Windows and feel comfortable installing something on your computer, go for Huggle. Igloo is great as well, but is still under development; I use it, but tried HG and it's more powerful as of right now. If you want to get rid of that arrow in the external link markup, use {{plainlink|url=URL HERE}}. As for suggestions, I suggest researching a topic you like and making sure you write in Simple English. Just make sure there isn't complicated grammar and there are no big words, and you should be fine. Oh, and yea, I haven't checked in there for a while. Thanks for the note, and no, you didn't ask too much :). Nice sig, BTW! Happy editing, Airplaneman 21:49, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, but the Huggle download page says that I need rollback rights to use it, but Twinkle automatically creates a rollback button next to pages, so does that mean I have rollback rights?
P.S. I thought that Fresh2dethsts was blocked indefinitely for being a vandal-only account, but why doesn't his page or talk page have a 'blocked' template? I am a violinisttalk to me here! 11:01, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh, I forgot you needed rollback for HG and GLOO! For Twinkle, the three buttons are just named "revert" - it doesn't actually utilize the rollback feature as far as I know. Since I believe you can be trusted with the revert tool, I will grant it. Please read this message (the first post in the thread) for more rollback info. Template:Rollbackgiven and Template:Rollbackgiven2 also contain good tips. Remember, when in doubt, don't use the rollback button. Undo or discuss instead! And of course, ask questions. Happy vandal-whacking, Airplaneman 23:21, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

aeroplane (djs band)

Excuse me, please can you re-instate the http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aeroplane_(djs_band)&action=edit&redlink=1

wiki link i wrote for the band aeroplane. Despite your claims they are of ambiguous notoriety, they are in fact a relatively well know band in the dance music community. Their recently released debut album will be notable in many of the end of year round ups.

Once you re-instate this i will be able to reference the claims in the article.

You may now find the article at User:Tobinlochrie/Aeroplane (djs band), where you can work on it without risking deletion (for the most part). SOCKS!

I've been rollbacking a lot today, and I think I've made someone really mad, so he and most likely, his socks, are vandalizing my pages. I'm not sure how to report socks, so can you help me to do it? And can you semi-protect my main page (i.e. not the talk page) for a week or so? I'm tired of this vandal. I am a violinisttalk to me here! 12:35, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

He is called Account Number 50 and he has surprisingly numbered his socks from 1 to 10: Harry.lewis1 all the way to Harry.lewis10. I am a violinisttalk to me here! 12:40, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Hmm... all have been blocked now (I finished it up by indefinitely blocking 9 and 10). I've also semi-protected your userpage indefinitely; if you're going to be fighting vandals, you will get hate. If you want it unlocked, just ask. To request page protections, go to Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. I happen to frequent that noticeboard, so if you have any questions about it, I should be able to answer them. For socks, you report them to WP:SPI. Airplaneman 22:32, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Article that was deleted

I have reworked the article on Widen Enterprises in an effort to remove anything that might come across as advertising and promotion. Is it okay with you if I post the new article so that you can look it over and let me know if it is okay? If there is a better way to get it to you, just let me know. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Michael Leeman (talk) 21:57, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello! I think the best thing to do would be to repost on a subpage of yours in your own userspace: User:Michael Leeman/Widen Enterprises. It can be moved into the main article space later. Make sure it contains reliable third-party sources to help back up claims of notability! Best, Airplaneman 22:37, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
I have posted the reworked article on my User:Michael Leeman/Widen Enterprises subpage. Could you possibly look it over and let me know if it's ready to be moved to the main page? Thanks.Michael Leeman (talk) 18:07, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
A few things: you need a lead (see WP:LEDE) for the article to summarize its content before the sections. See Microsoft for a featured-status (the highest quality on Wikipedia) example of an article on a corporation. Right now, the article goes a bit heavy on the products. You could also say it goes a bit light on the history. So either expand on its history or trim the product sections. Maybe you could even put them together. Regards, Airplaneman 02:32, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

It sounded like spam and was tagged for deletion as such (per WP:G11). I agreed, so I went ahead with the deletion. If you would like, I can restore it to a user subpage of yours (User:Sirdan85/Wolfgang Santner) where you can work on adding more reliable third-party sources to back up the claims as well as including more than just his accomplishments (family, etc.) It is a biography, after all, not a resume. Defending America for Knowledge and Action

This article is about the 501c3 nonprofit DAFKA, Defending America for KNowledge and Action. While Lee Kaplan is the Executive Director of DAFKA and he did sue (and won a judgment) against Yaman Salahi, a student at UC Berkeley in a case of defamation and tortious business interference, Salahi or a friend has turned the Corporation's Wiki into a whine about how he should not have lost the law suit that has nothing to do with the corporation DAFKA, only his personal dispute with Kaplan. There are two references to articles by Salahi after the lawsuit in which he whines his free speech rights were abridged (they were not as the judge saw no free speech violations and the Lee Kaplan Watch blog was turned over to Kaplan so today it is Lee Kaplan's Blog (see City Media Law Project Kaplan vs. Salahi). There is as much written about Salahi as there is about DAFKA, recent changes to the Wiki page and as mentioned DAFKA is a non-profit corporation. Salahi did not sue DAFKA and entries referring to him do not belong there. In addition, rather than providing information, the site has become a diatribe for Yaman Salahi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.210.8.116 (talk) 03:44, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

deleted "Jin Zhuo"

Dear Airplaneman, you speedily deleted ‎"Jin Zhuo" article (A7: Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject). Please advise me on what I should have done differently to do it right on the first attempt.

Background: Jin Zhuo was a 3rd c. AD scholar and commentator to whom researchers frequently turn to when they need to find out what the Chinese annals are talking about specifically. We do have on WP an article on 24 Chinese annals [2] which explains the Chinese annalitic system, a number of them recorded the events of the 3rd-4th cc., and Jin Zhuo is one of the ancient historians whose works complement the respective annals. About his prominence testifues that Googling "Jin Zhuo 晉灼" gives 10,400 returns as of right now. Without a WP article, the WP links to Jin Zhuo remain redlinks, and that was my primary motive on creating the article. I also listed two works that contain further scientific bibliography. As I understand, not much is known of him personnaly, but his works are cited by ancient and modern scholars, and in many cases we have his citations only from the works of the Chinese classical historians. I think and hope that retaining a skeleton article on him in WP would allow Chinese editors to enrich the article with additional essential information. Please give them a chance, this is important part of their heritage.

If my explanations does not satisfy you, please advise me on what needs to be done, and move it into my user's userspace. Regards, Barefact (talk) 15:09, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello. I deleted the article because it did not claim notability. In this post here, you have established his notability (e.g. "his works are cited by ancient and modern scholars, and in many cases we have his citations only from the works of the Chinese classical historians") I am willing to restore the article if you expand it a bit with at least some of the info you have given above (with refs of course). As it stood, the article was a one-sentence page just stating who Zhuo was. How does this sound? Airplaneman 20:02, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
It sounds wonderful. Please allow me 24 hrs to edit it, and let me know when it is available for editing Barefact (talk) 00:10, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Please have a look at the revision User:Barefact/Jin Zhuo, and move it back if now it looks right. I would not bother you, but I do not know the technique how to move it with proper history. Neither do I know how to remove it from my page. Thank you, Barefact (talk) 14:51, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

No problem; it was not your fault. I had first deleted the article without it having a CSD tag prior to the deletion because it was extremely blatant advertising (as you'll remember). deletion of bobby barr

Why have you rejected this deletion?

I have been told on numerous occasions that unless a player within Scotland has played a league or cup game whilst contracted to a club in the SPL or First Division that they cannot be included in Wikipedia.

Salty1984 (talk) 23:15, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

I declined this due to a claim of notability existing in the article. I think Afd or PROD would be better suited for this article. Regards, Airplaneman 00:05, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

I have moved several welcome messages from the userpage to the usertalkpage and tagged the resulting redirect as G6. For those whose welcome templates were already moved to the talkpage before I did, their userpages were tagged as G6 as well. If you encounter more speedy deletion G6s, in userpages, that'd probably be me. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 05:07, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

(copied from User talk:Cunard)

Hello Cunard, I've declined your G6 nomination of User:Power Slave/STITHP because the deletion discussion you linked as a G6 qualifier did not mention this page. The discussion this page is listed at is still ongoing (see here). If I've missed something, please let me know. Otherwise, I think we can wait a week longer before taking action on this page. Regards, Airplaneman 05:16, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

I tagged this page for deletion per the consensus at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Power Slave/Hidden Barnstar. I initiated an MfD for this page when I didn't know that I had already created one that was closed as delete. I believe that deletion would be uncontroversial per the consensus at the previous MfD. What is your opinion about this? Cunard (talk) 05:17, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Hmm... I don't have a strong opinion on whether it should be deleted. Since the page wasn't explicitly mentioned in the above linked discussion, I'm inclined to just wait another week, just to be safe. I can see where you are coming from with the G6 tagging, though. Airplaneman 05:21, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I don't mind letting the discussion run for another week. Cunard (talk) 05:23, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

An update from adopt a user

Hi there Airplaneman! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

I honestly don't mind if you post stuff like this on my talk page (and am not offended the least bit), but others may see it as you laughing at their honest mistakes (not in a good way). Please be careful! (BTW, yea, I was sleepy when this happened :D) Airplaneman 21:22, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry. It had woken me up. I'd been only just woken up, so yeah, it woke me up. Ian (talk) 06:09, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
