Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Honest mistake on George S Patton
Hello,
Thank you for raising these concerns. You are right about Patton. However. as you may know, Maghakian won over two dozen medals and the medals featured on the infobox are in fact his notable ones. You should check out an article like John_Shalikashvili which shows all his medals with the small picture logos. I would like something similar. Proudbolsahye (talk) 02:28, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. So which one are the service medals...you're talking about the campaign medals right? Unit citations as well? Also Abraham...would you be willing to do me a favor? Can you add the rest of his medals to the list of medals with the image on the bottom of the page? I don't know how to that well. Proudbolsahye (talk) 02:41, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- If youre willing to help, heres the full list: navy cross, silver star eith gold star, bronze star medal, purple heart with gold star (in lieu of second purple heart), marine corps good conduct medal, china service medal, american campaign medal, asiatic pacific campaign medal (7), world war ii victory medal, presidential unit citation (2), navy unit citation (2), gold dolphin award by us navy submarine for makin island raid. Phew! Proudbolsahye (talk) 02:52, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Alan McNicoll
Hi - It would be really good if you could put your excellent article on Alan McNicoll into mainspace. The fact that there is currently no article on McNicoll (experienced editors all know that you have written a reall good one) is turning McNicoll into a mystery person! Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:54, 14 April 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre
Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).
So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along. A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk) This message was sent out by --EdwardsBot (talk) 14:55, 9 June 2013 (UTC) |

WP:FOUR RFC
There are two WP:RFCs at WP:FOUR. The first is to conflate issues so as to keep people from expressing meaningful opinions. The second, by me, is claimed to be less than neutral by proponents of the first. Otto Becher - TFA appearance
Hello, this is just a brief note to let you know that Otto Becher will be appearing as Wikipedia:Today's featured article/September 13, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask me. If the blurb needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. I hope that the TFA appearance goes smoothly. Sorry for the late notification - you may have already spotted this news through your watchlist; the bot that was meant to tell you seems to have broken. Invitation
Hi Abraham, B.S.
In case you didn't know, there is an editathon coming up following a backstage pass in the State Library of New South Wales by some of the Library's curators on 23 November. This may or may not be a convenient time and place for you but it should be an interesting event. We hope it will be productive too.
This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.
If you could make it, I am sure the encyclopedia would benefit! As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Whiteghost.ink (talk) 02:45, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Congratulations!

Periodically I come across pages that would benefit from your expertise. Do you wish for them to be brought to your attention? If so, in what way? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:13, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not certain how much time I'll have to look at the articles, but, sure, just post them here on my talk page and I'll see what I can do. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 08:09, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- What do you think of the idea of a "Maintenance Category", something like [[category:Australian generals without info boxes]], or something similar? (I seem to recall that a long time ago I did something similar with VC recipients, with a positive end result ... ) Or perhaps you have a better idea? Pdfpdf (talk) 12:42, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
- The 'powers that be' seem to be on a little bit of a war path regarding categories lately, so it might be wise to shy away from that idea (otherwise it may be deleted before it is of any use). I'm happy enough with a list here, so long as that is okay with you? Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 03:55, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

(Update) FYI, I haven't forgotten or lost interest - it's a case of discovering that things are not as I thought. Taking a lead from your VC page, I thought a good way to go might be to set up an OzGenerals page. (Once again I was quickly reminded what a big list they are.) When I started to get down to it (and I'm still only in the "C"s), I discovered that, on average, the quality of the existing pages is quite high. And also, I've yet to come across an existing page that DOESN'T have an infobox. My major-discovery-for-me is that there are a LOT more red links than I expected. Any advice, suggestions, opinions, whatever, will be read with interest. Thanks for your support. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:49, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Chief of Joint Operations
Hey, thank you for fixing that up, the CDF didn't specify that it was not until May in his Facebook post. "I am very pleased to appoint Rear Admiral Johnston as the Chief of Joint Operations. He has extensive operational and command experience across the tri-service, coalition and whole-of-government environment which make him the standout choice for this role." - GEN D. Hurley. Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 11:02, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
- No problem. A notice went up on the DoD page that specified the change would occur in May, but I don't think it appeared until later in the afternoon. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 11:06, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
Random trying-to-be-positive comment
These days, I'm no longer interested in edit warring. Sadly, that doesn't mean that something I do won't annoy someone.
If something I do annoys you, please tell me - preferably on a talk page, or via email if necessary - rather than in an edit comment. I'm sure we can sort it out without embarking on an edit war. I've come to the realization that, in general, we agree. It seems silly for us to start an edit-war over minor details when, in general, we agree on the big things. (And although I admit I've done this in the past (as have you), I'm not interested in doing it in the future.) In the meantime, have a good weekend. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:05, 28 March 2014 (UTC)
By-the-way: What ARE your primary fields-of-interest on WP these days?
It appears to me you have broad interests in Military History, with a general focus on Australia, and a primary focus on the RAAF, very closely followed by the Australian Army. How would you summarise your WP interests? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:00, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

I have the impression that R-S is no longer a member of the ADF, so I am not sure about the accuracy of the phrase at the end of the lede which says: "three recipients of the Victoria Cross for Australia are still serving in the Australian Defence Force." Can you clarify, or point me at someone who can? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 11:45, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- The retirement announcement, I believe, stipulated that Roberts-Smith would transfer to the Army Reserves, in which case I think the above statement is still technically correct. The fact that Roberts-Smith was in uniform during the Anzac Day ceremonies in Canberra would also appear to support his still being in the Army in some capacity. Abraham, B.S. (talk) 07:21, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- That sounds sufficiently convincing for Wikipedia purposes. Thanks, Pdfpdf (talk) 15:22, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 21
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited William Meldrum (lawyer), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Battle of Beersheba (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). VCDF
I presume the ceremony will happen tomorrow, because it didn't happen today. Do you have any reference that Ray Griggs will be VCDF as of midnight? Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 13:01, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
- Hi. Sorry, I didn't see your note before I logged off last night. According to Griggs' new Defence bio that went up today [1], he succeeded Binskin as VCDF yesterday as well. I assume it was during the same CDF/CN change over ceremony, it just wasn't publicised like the other two. I've tweaked the appropriate pages accordingly. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. Medal table ordering
Hey there. Interesting point that you brought up on the Matthew Mitcham page regarding medal ordering in the infobox. I was acting under the impression that there was no consensus reached at Template talk:Medal templates documentation#Order of medals, and based on personal preference (original consensus of ordering first by chronology with most recent first, and then ordering secondly by medal type within each event) I went ahead and made that the style of the article when I went to tidy up the medal information.
I acknowledge that the style on the pages you listed, for example Ian Thorpe and Michael Phelps, are of your preferred style. However, I do believe that the old style has more merit, because:
- Ordering by chronology rather than medal type is more helpful for a reader because it is easier to count the number of each type of medal than to work out the changes in an athlete's medal performance over time. The latter is important because one often wants to know when an athlete excelled, improved, or faced challenges in their career. Therefore it is better for the medal table to be ordered in such a way to assist a reader with the second, more difficult task.
- The first task, that of counting how many of each type of medal an athlete has accumulated, can be easily remedied by an extra medal count table, whereas it is impossible to remedy the second task of giving a reader a chronological impression with any other extra table.
- The best compromise would be to keep the medal table ordered in the original style, and, if the sportsperson has a large number of medals that makes garnering an impression of how many golds, silvers and bronzes they gained in each competition difficult, then this can be fixed by adding an extra medal count table in the infobox.
- Finally, I believe it is better to order competitions by most recent first, rather than earliest first, because whatever is more recent is usually of greater significance to a curious reader today.
Keen to hear your thoughts and arguments. I am open to moving this discussion to the infobox talk page if you feel that would be better.

Infobox - commands
Hi - I just thought I would consult with you on the order in which we set out commands for UK senior officers in infoboxes. I think in the UK we normally put the most junior command first and then list them in increasing importance. I see that for Richard Dannatt, Baron Dannatt and a few others it is the opposite way round. Is there any guidance in the MoS on this or do you have strong views on this? Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 16:40, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Dormskirk. I don't believe there is anything set out in the MoS or other guidelines about this, rather it appears to be based on editor discretion. My personal preference is for the most recent command to be listed first, in reverse chronological order. In my experience, infoboxes—including those on UK military personnel—are rather inconsistent in which is listed first, so my changes, in part, sort some consistency. That, and I see the list of commands similar to that of the honours, in which the most notable/recent are recorded above those of a less senior level, flowing through to the lower level and potentially less notable commands. Just my thoughts, anyway! :) Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 07:29, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- Many thanks for that. On all the articles on British field marshals (over 100 of them) that I have worked on, I have put the commands in chronological order so, while I am merely striving for consistency too, there would be quite a lot of work to move them all to reverse chronological order. Perhaps we just leave the inconsistency for now. Thanks for the advice. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:23, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Postnominals and honorific prefixes
Hello. I noticed that you removed a lot of titles and postnominals like OBE from instances of {{infobox military person}}, and I have to admit that I'm quite unhappy with that. Is there a consensus for this broad change? If so, you might also want to remove the template parameters just to avoid confusion. The focus in the infobox header should be on the person's name, which is why the prefix and postnominals have been set off. De728631 (talk) 18:01, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
