Your old username
[edit]Hi, in response to WP:VPR#Return under new username, I suggest you do the following:
- Log in as User:ACEO and post an edit here confirming that this is your new username
- Copy and paste the contents of the page User:ACEO onto User:ACEOREVIVED and perhaps add in details about how you have changed accounts
- Make the page User:ACEO redirect to your new account by replacing the whole page with the text
#REDIRECT User:ACEOREVIVED
If you like, I could help you with the second and third steps, but you will need to do the first step yourself. Bear in mind, however, that this will not reattribute the edits from ACEO to ACEOREVIVED, and the page history of the userpage will also not be transferred. If you would like any of this to also be transferred, then you will need to carry out a different method. Tra (Talk) 22:31, 27 February 2007 (UTC) Thank you, I seem to have moved a lot of content to my new userpage name now, and edited/ confirmed that any one who goes to ACEO should now look for ACEOREVIVED. Many thanks for your help, ACEOREVIVED 19:56, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Category pages
[edit]You are incorrectly populating the category page Category:Critics of Freud. Putting the category at the bottom of the article is what places it in the category. Then you have to go to the category page and place a parent category or categories in it (such as Category:Psychology), to connect it to the category tree. What you did creates an infinite loop. Note my use of the leading colon to prevent this page from being put into the examples shown here. --Blainster 23:05, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
Ageing
[edit]Yes I believe it was I who removed that paragraph. It had stood for a while unsourced, and was off topic from the main thrust of the article. The article is about ageing and is trying to be culturally diverse with it. But 'traditional medicine' beliefs are out of the scope of this article IMO. --Monotonehell 00:06, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Reading tip appreciated
[edit]I take note of your recommendation of Eysenck, H.J. and Wilson, G.D. (1973). The Experimental Study of Freudian Theories. But of course, my lack of knowledge about Eysenck is a very insignificant factor in why I felt the two categories didn't fit with Wikipedia's categorization scheme. __meco 06:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for greatly improving the article and the referencing. Have you tried in-line referencing yet? It works really well and looks better than Harvard. Give it a go. And yes, feel free to remove the reference tag. Welcome back! Gillyweed 22:50, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Recent [Deaths] Dust-up
[edit]I accept your apology. I'm sorry as well because I got a little touchy; I rarely ask questions for clarification out of fear that someone will make me feel stupid, so I took it a little more personally than most in that situation. Besides, I learned more about Wikipedia, which is always a good thing. I've been editing for two years and there is still so much to learn! SailorAlphaCentauri 16:06, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually, according to the Britannica link at the bottom of the article, though it moved around before, Thanksgiving in Canada has been set to the second Monday of October ever since 1957. But, after verification, since your book is from 1977, it turns out that the second Monday of October in 1976 was October 11. If it's a book made for young readers by someone in the UK in those days, I imagine the only fact-checking done for this bit of trivia was to look at that one calendar.--Boffob 19:58, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
BPS category
[edit]I've just suggested here that Category:Wikipedians_in_the_British_Psychological_Society, as a professional association rather than a club, might better be kept, as a subcategory of Category:Wikipedian_psychologists, rather than deleted outright (who knows - it might grow!). What do you reckon? --Paularblaster 01:12, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- This, or deletion, seem fine to me -- we're the only two members of the category, as you say, ACEOREVIVED, but I can't believe us BPSers aren't infiltrating the BPS more fully ;-) – Stuart. (Sjb90 | talk) 10:22, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- There seems to be an assumption that categories should serve to bring together people with common interests, and small categories won't serve that purpose well. But I see such a category as useful, in one sense, because it is small. I would never join this category (I'd have to lie to do so) but where else am I going to find a wikipedian who knows about psychology in Britain when I need one? --Paularblaster (talk) 23:09, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Julian Rotter
[edit]Hi! I'm working on criminology articles, with some work on the social learning theory page. I linked Julian Rotter and saw there was no page... only a redirect. So, now there is a page for him. I notice the good work you have done on the locus of control page. You are better capable of filling in that section of his biography, if you have the time and are interested. Otherwise, I will try. If the article can be expanded in the next few days, it can be submitted to WP:DYK. Cheers. --Aude (talk) 21:36, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you again for helping with the article. Regarding the question, is he still alive? I cannot find any evidence otherwise. He is listed as emeritus faculty at the University of Connecticut. [1] Also, I searched New York Times archives and Lexis-Nexis to make sure. Where 1987 comes up in my searches, I think that is when he retired. In 1993, he wrote an autobiography piece, which is listed in the "further reading" section of the article. If you find otherwise, then okay. Regarding WP:DYK, it is for new articles. (5 days old or less) Look on the "Did you know" section on the Main Page for examples of how it works. More examples at Wikipedia:Recent additions We could suggest something like,
- "Did you know: ...that Julian Rotter developed the locus of control theory, which has been widely used in the psychology of personality?"
You may be able to word it better than I can. --Aude (talk) 21:54, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
I have nominated the article, since we are coming up on five days since the article was created. The nomination is here: Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created.2Fexpanded_on_December_8. It may go on the main page sometime tomorrow. Cheers. --Aude (talk) 01:45, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
The entry has been moved to Template:Did_you_know/Next_update. It should be on the main page later today. I hope the wording is okay. Cheers. --Aude (talk) 13:22, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the help on the article on Frederick Madison Allen
[edit]Thank you for the help with the article I started recently (January 2008) on Frederick Madison Allen. I did not have a lot of information about this man, but wanted to start the article to avoid a confusing wikilink in the article on diabetic diet. It was good of you to increase this article and to add some sources, and I see that you come from New Jersey - did this man work there, or in Massachusetts, or in both? I have read different things in different sources! Also, I think you put in the wikilink to Elliott P. Joslin - I did not know that there was an article on him, so thank you for that. Thank you again for your help on this article, it is much appreciated. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 20:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- I was able to find a great deal of information about Allen from articles in the New York Times. The Times has made almost all articles from 1981 on and some articles from before then available fro free to all. As a subscriber, I can also view a limited number of pay articles per month. Allen was covered extensively during his heyday, including coverage of the opening of his clinic in Morristown, New Jersey. He was also discussed extensively in an article from a few years ago that I had remembered reading where I had first heard of this starvation diet. I hope that helps. While you have already done most of the work, I was glad to expand the article. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Alansohn (talk) 16:51, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Religious programming proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals
[edit]Two points. One, if you yourself would like to do some of the work regarding these subjects, it would help to add your own name to the list of interested parties. Two, it would help if you were to perhaps a bit more clearly define the intended scope of your proposal. Would it be, basically, dealing with broadcast media religious programs, like radio and television, all broadcast media, including podcasting and internet broadcasting and videorecordings, and the like. Also, would you be limiting it to simply Christian programming or programming of all religions. The latter point is important, as it would determine which particular religion project or projects it would be a "child" project of. It would probably be a joint subproject of whichever media project(s) and religion project(s) are appropriate, but it would help a lot to have a slightly clearer definition of the scope of your proposal. Thanks. John Carter (talk) 20:04, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. I know that in the US some programs like the Sacred Heart Program have been on both TV and radio, so that does name sense. But in that event, we should try to spell out in the proposal that the group is intended to deal with radio, TV, and, mabye, for all I know webcasting and the like. That would make it a bit clearer for others who might be interested as well. John Carter (talk) 23:43, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Respect within passion
[edit]I am curious after reading the paradox of passion as to where respect fits in. Some forms of passion have the aspect of love-hate. Obviously love would include respect if it is true love. but the hate side is debatable. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
[edit]Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

- I fixed the article for you, & I hope it will be kept. --please check any other articles on academics you have written--and see WP:PROF for the relevant factors. Please remember that such articles will often get nominated for deletion unless they at least: give the full title of the person--there is a difference between full professor and lecturer, include exact bibliographic listing for all published books, and for at least the major articles, indicate how many citations the most cited ones have received--at least from Google Scholar-- , and, if books, include listings for the book reviews. There;'s no point writing articles unless they are going to be kept. People are not familiar with the academic world here, and need to be helped to realize the significance. Little context in Earl Lectures
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Earl Lectures, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Earl Lectures is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Earl Lectures, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Paulo Coelho article
[edit]Yes, I noted the "criticism" dates from early on e.g. link to 7 December 2006, that the paragraph was tagged early on for references e.g. link to 19 January 2008, and that these requests were removed with the ref to the fable by Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav, which did not answer the requests for references to criticism, and amusingly pointed to an author who also borrowed the same story. I am not very familiar with Paulo Coelho's work, but I am an unconditional fan of Borges (along with Kafka, my favorite authors). Borges used the same story (probably taken from 1001 nights), yet I see no "criticism" of his borrowing (nor for that matter is there any criticism of Nachman of Bratslav borrowing.). The paragraph under this light just seemed very opinionated, so I boldly deleted. No doubt, as is the plague to all authors, there exists criticism on Paulo Coelho, but this is best dealt with references to the criticism, not with what looked suspiciously like the opinion of an editor of wiki. Yours ever, Czar Brodie (talk) 23:35, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Thank You for getting in touch with me. Actually, I am an American. Korean internet pages are practically unreadable for me -- not only because of the language but because of the busy-ness (pop-ups, redirects, flashing and scrolling notices etc.). Some years ago I worked in the IT department of a large university's library. Part of my work was to make the German and English pages as user-friendly (including readable) as possible. We never allowed some-thing as visually messy as the opening lines of so many Wik articles. As a language teacher, I also have learned how difficult it is for non-native readers to understand a text that is complicated by sloppy hand-writing, extraneous marks and SCREAMING colors and sizes. This sort of thing is what I am objecting to. Kdammers (talk) 07:11, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

I could not resist adding number 8 because it is what I have been trying to say. These criticms are all only my opinion of course...

The article Father Victor White has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- not clear how this person is notable. Lacks 3rd party references
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RadioFan (talk) 22:26, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
This Article page is very important for when Carl Gustav Jung published his "Answer to Job", Father Victor White responded by writing to Jung and the co-respondance went on for some time. The letters were lent to some students at some Universities. And not published! The family of Jung only published the Red Book (Jung), last month. These letters are very much saught after, by Jung's followers. Hence, to delete this Article would be a retrograde step.
The one who deletes these pages is not aware of the significance of Carl Gustav Jung and of the letters.
People who have little or no expertise in a field should not make these decisions and cross over into other fields. Either study the subjects properly or leave alone. I constantly come across this problem in Wikipedia. I make a point of not deleting another's work. I ask questions, and request comment but seek the original entrant to change. It is a better policy.

It is a great annoyance to us that people of another dicipline cross over and give comments on another, and so we are dealing with inapropriate actions and comments. Wikipedia should have a policy on this.

There is an entry on the talk page of C.G. Jung. I'v looked at the last one but can we quote?
MacOfJesus (talk) 20:19, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
(Marcusinasx) left quite a no. of out-line connections, the last of which (29) I'v picked up: The Role of Victor White in C.G. Jung's writings by Murray Sten. "Some of Jung's greatest letters were written to White". A white raven he called him in an early letter. 1945.
I could synopsis (try) to do this. It is the best I'v seen. (Oh! for the letters themselves). (I somewhat agree with Jung over Fr. White on the problem of evil.) (Fr. White: evil the absence of good, classical Latin definition).
What do you suggest? It looks like we got to otherwise the page could go!

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Personal tutor. Firstly thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic one which we already have a page - :{article}. Your enthusiasm is fantastic, but unfortunately your article has been nominated for deletion in accordance with our policies. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we'd love for you to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at :{article} - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest this deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the article you created (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on Talk:Personal tutor explaining your position, although an administrator may still believe deletion to be necessary. Regardless, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, as doing such often creates unnecessary confusion. If you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Hang in there and try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions.

- I have left a comment on the talk page "Personal tutor" as requested. I disagree with this policy of removing and deleting, it upholds the unwitting policy of "first in always in, for better or worse". "Pepperpiggle" should have contacted you before this action. I think it quite amazing that this comment was made under the heading "Father White 2".
- How can you, Pepperpiggle, ask someone to: "Hang in there", without talking to them firstly?
MacOfJesus (talk) 23:21, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Dear ACEOREVIVED
[edit]I enclose a copy of the comment by OIEnglish:
Well happy wiki-birthday! :) You needn't worry about Personal tutor, the speedy deletion was declined and the page was redirected to the existing article. And there is already a fully-formed deletion policy which covers everything, including this situation. -- Ϫ 09:30, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
So you may find your page is preserved as the policy covers this eventuality!
And Happy Christmas!

Epistemology
[edit]In the talk page of this article page I have made some comments asking for a more up-to-date page and found some have been asking for the same thing before me, particularly at point 15 in the talk page. I asked the anonymous entrant (15) to come in on this but to date, no reply. Before going any further I said I would talk to you. What is your thoughts?

Father Victor White 3
[edit]The name of the article page has been changed from "Father Victor White" to "Victor White (Dominican)". This I have objected to on the grounds that the correspondence occured because he was a priest and trained in the Classical Theologies and Thomistic Theologies and Philosophies, The Dominican Brother would have a very different training. This change is foreign to the article page. Do you agree?
MacOfJesus (talk) 22:37, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for coming back to me on this. I feel very strongly that the article page should be as it was: "Father Victor White" not "Victor White (Dominican)" as the relationship Jung/White was as Father Victor White not as he as Dominican.
I am studying The Answer to Job and the Book of Job again but will no write on the article page if this error is not corrected! I feel that this step is an error and needs correcting.
Regarding the Theologian I will make enquiries and study.
I hope you had a good break!

Kosuke Koyama
[edit]I have looked at the article page. My first impressions centre on his talking to a Buddist monk re the Crusades and receiving the comment "why? not disciple-like". A good comment! History then and values then may be very different to values now!

Jung: Political views
[edit]In the article page of Jung at the paragraph called: Political views, an editorial note has been placed to say that this entry has too much imbalance and leaning to one side or the other. To me I cannot see evidence of this and said so in the talk page where someone has justified this entry.
What do you think? Is it unbalanced or maybe not fitting to the heading: Political views?
It seems OK to me!
MacOfJesus (talk) 18:11, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the message. I hope I havn't stumbled on a mine-field! I think it is essential thought of Jung for the individual to remain an independant thinking being evident in his opposition of privatio boni. I doubt whether the entrance should be made under "Political views".

Invitation
[edit]You are invited to participate in WikiProject Disability, a project dedicated to developing and improving disability related articles. Bib (talk) 15:40, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- To sign up, just click the link WikiProject Disability, and add your username in the Participants section. The WikiProject is started by Roger.
To make sure the WikiProject includes epilepsy, diabetes or asthma, as well as visible examples of wheelchair usage, you can for example a) mention it on the projects talk page. b) add the code WikiProject Disability to the top of of the talk page of those articles, which automatically includes them in the project. c) add suggestions to work that needs to be done in the 'to do list' section at WikiProject Disability or at the talk page.
You can add new sections to the WikiProject, or suggest what you want to be added, or help with tasks that others have added, or whatever you want. On the other hand you can just sign your name in support and edit disability related articles once in a while, whatever level of involvement in the project you choose is appreciated. Hi ACEOREVIVED, how are you? I wanted to ask for your help salvaging one of the links you added (a LONG time ago) to Kosuke Koyama, given here:
www.ibiblio.org/ahkitj/wscfap/arms1974/Leadership%20Formation%20program/Resource%20Book%20...
This is broken; if you try to load it you will get an error. It looks like the link wasn't copied all the way (see the dot dot dot at the end?)
I tried to fix the link, and the closest I could find was this: http://www.ibiblio.org/ahkitj/wscfap/arms1974/Leadership%20Formation%20program/, which leads to a directory listing. I guess it's supposed to be under one of the "Resource Book" ones? I tried searching both but I couldn't find anything by him. Anyway, do you remember what work this is supposed to link to, and what the connection is to Kosuke Koyama? Do you still have the original link that you were trying to add? Thanks :)

Welcome Back
[edit]Welcome back. I have not added too much to the pages you mention. However, there has been an entry on Answer to Job. I made an entry only in the talk / discussion page of "an appraisal", that is as far as I would go. I have spoken to some Dominican Friars re Fr. Victor White but received blank faces! Different era! Thank You
[edit]I would like to share with you the "Proofs of God's existence", St. Thomas Aquinas, and some of the reasoning behind the principles of Scolastic Philosophy. Often we do not, in modern study, account for these. Sincerely, MacOfJesus (talk) 14:30, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Thank You
[edit]Thanks for the message. I was not aware of St. Anselm's involvement here, who I think came before Aquinas' definitions. St. Aquinas was building on the work of many prior to him. Existentialism, however, did have a spring-board here. The principle: privatio boni on the face of it does seem odd, but this was worked out after much "water-under-the-bridge"! MacOfJesus (talk) 17:22, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
With regards to the medical side: I was/am not involved, but can observe. In the case of addiction, should be accompanied with, the steps or as I found, the shorter but more drastic steps of St. Augustine of Hippo. This is for any addiction. MacOfJesus (talk) 16:09, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
To give an example of this; I quote a person's comment whom I came accross in the street: "I did go on this de-tox., but I know it won't work as I need to work it out in my head first." What is meant here is that the person was treated without a person-to-person empathy. Unfortunately, consultants opt for the easy tangable solution that looks good on paper, or maybe thay have not worked out their own Philosophy/Spirituality! MacOfJesus (talk) 12:43, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Re:Miriam O'Reilly
[edit]Fantastic. I haven't checked the article for a few days so thanks for keeping me up to date. I've been working on the Joanna Gosling and Craig Oliver articles this week after Oliver was named as David Cameron's new Press Secretary and they're coming along nicely. If you can help or know anyone who can that would be great. Cheers TheRetroGuy (talk) 21:58, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Thank you - sorry, I do not know too much about the names you mention there! ACEOREVIVED (talk) 19:49, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Points to share
[edit]The most valuable things I've found:
1/ The use of the imagination in building a "pen-picture".
2/ Focusing on the future and building of the future rather than studying the past, in discovering where "I've gone wrong".
3/ Training in expression in word or drama.
These "tools" I think come from Jung?
Your thoughts?

The article The Krazy Gang has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Had trouble finding any sources, but should probably just be included in the article about Krazy anyway.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Yaksar (let's chat) 23:02, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Aspergers'
[edit](Per your request - moving discussion here from User talk:SteveBaker)
Many thanks for your interesting comments on the talk page at the article on Asperger's Syndrome. Reading between the lines, I wondered whether you had personal reasons for being interested in this article - I do not mind telling you that at present, I am seeing a clinical psychologist who is in the processing of assessing whether I do or do not have Asperger's syndrome. I am well aware that the talk pages of Wikipedia articles are meant to be about the article in Wikipedia and not on the subject in general, so sorry if some of the issues I raised on the talk page of this article looked as if they were on the subject in general! You are welcome to get back to me on my talk page. Again, many thanks for your interesting comments on this talk page. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 15:43, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- I do have Asperger's - I was only diagnosed about 5 years ago (I'm now 55) - so it's been something of an eye-opener for me! It has really explained an awful lot of things about my life to date...I really wish I'd have known about it when I was much younger!
- Well, if this is an issue with you - welcome to the gang!
- With almost any other medical condition - and certainly with most of the mental health conditions - the news that you have some condition or other can be personally devastating and sufferers are there for mutual support during difficult times. We 'aspies' are generally more of a happy bunch. We absolutely revel in the 'upside' symptoms - which truly are a 'super-power' - and we can generally make light of the downsides. There are definitely worse things you could be...and for many aspies, being "normal" (aka "neurotypical") would be worse.
- If you go to aspie clubs or forums, the two messages you hear over and over again are:
- My diagnosis explained so much about myself - I'm *so* much better for knowing.
- If there was a magic blue pill that would cure the syndrome - I wouldn't even consider taking it.
- How many medical conditions are there where people would prefer NOT to be cured?
- However, it is essential to remember that:
- There is no cure, no treatment, no possibility of recovery. If this is you - you're stuck with it! There are fad diets and all sorts of other junk...none of them work.
- It's a 'spectrum' condition - everything from almost complete normality to severely 'disabled' at the Autism end. Not everyone has all of the symptoms...although I believe that we all have at least some of the 'upside' stuff going on.
- We are still all individuals - and some people can push through some of the less good symptoms by sheer willpower alone.
- There are lots of 'coping strategies' - and if your health care coverage will cover you for some courses and one-on-one training - grab it with both hands, because that's the one thing you can do that WILL improve your life.
- I make it my mission in life to help fellow sufferers out - so if/when you know the truth, I'd be happy to talk about it with you. If you fancy a bit of self-diagnosis in advance of the formal diagnosis, there is an excellent WIRED magazine article with a simple 50 question test. The test seems to be pretty solid. I score 48/50 and my son (who is also an aspie) 46/50 - my neurotypical partner scored 6/50.
- If you are in some kind of relationship - then you and your partner should read this: [2] - which explains where the difficulties may lie and what they should do to make things better for you. You may want to cross out any symptoms that you don't have before you do that!
- So - if there is anything I can do to help, anything I can explain - just let me know, you can use my home email if you'd prefer that it not all be public. I'm at <steve@sjbaker.org>. I'd offer to chat on the phone too - but one of my symptoms leaves me feeling very uncomfortable with phone conversations!
Sorry to intrude, but thank you for the comment on my talk page. I actually meant something very similar to what you said (the cause and effect thing,) but I may have mis-"spoke." I tend to do that. My apologies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teach267 (talk • contribs) 17:33, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Self-esteem deficits? Maybe a little, but to be honest, that's mainly because I'm a girl. I'm not trying to suggest a gender-specific trend, or even a trend at all, but the social protocols of females have always been more foreign to me than those of males. Of course, it would be difficult to prove anything along the lines of Asperger Syndrome causing anorexia, for the simple reason that diagnosed aspies are, for the most part, male. Anorexia stems from social insecurity manifesting itself in fear of obesity, which is primarily a female problem. I've always thought Asperger to be genetic, whereas anorexia is environmentally caused. As a result, the overlap between the two is relatively small, and since there are few female aspies, generalities which do not exist could be reasonably presumed. Your thoughts? [edit]Hi ACEOREVIVED, you asked at the Christianity noticeboard about joining the WikiProject. To formally become a member, you can simply add yourself to the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/Members. But that's not required in order to collaborate on WikiProject matters; I myself have not done so, but I have added the noticeboard to my watchlist. (You might also want to add Wikipedia talk:Christianity noticeboard/Urgent to your watchlist, that's the rather well-hidden subpage for urgent matters. It's included at the top of the noticeboard, but watchlisting the noticeboard itself will not alert you to new "urgent" matters.) Yours, Huon (talk) 22:29, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of List of pastries
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on List of pastries, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 23:36, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 01:36, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

A Barnstar For You!
[edit]What a Brilliant Idea Barnstar
For your great creation: List of pastries. This new article will probably get over 600 hits a day, forever!!! Nice. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:52, 6 May 2012 (UTC) |
Yup already several hundred a day (640 in the 2 days following creation ;-) You and Northamerica have really done a fine job ^^ benzband (talk) 11:44, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
Hear, hear. I came here to give you a barnstar too and am pleased to see that this has been done as the list certainly seems to have hit the spot. I'll nominate it for DYK, as it may qualify now. Warden (talk) 12:45, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
Another well-deserved Barnstar!
[edit]The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
You have tirelessly improved the mainspace, unsung. I hereby sing your praises with another long-overdue barnstar. Perhaps not as nice as the first, but this one spins round and round, and, if stared at long enough, can induce a psychotic episode! :) Best, wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:47, 8 May 2012 (UTC) |
Hello. You have a new message at benzband's talk page.
Vejlefjord's Reply
[edit]I hope this is where I should reply. If not, please tell me.
Thank you for taking the time to give me your suggestions. In what follows, I have divided your comments into sections accompanied by my questions and comments:
(1) You suggest that I might name the author being cited in the early sentences of the article. Are you thinking of the Lead? If so, as I read the Wiki-rules for Lead, they should be as to-the-point as possible with nothing not necessary to make the point.
(2) You suggest that I should “clarify which version” of the Bible is being quoted. I agree, so I did this in Endnote 14 when I used a biblical quotation for the first time. Do you think that an endnote is not sufficient?
(3) You find what “may appear” to be a contradiction between Brueggeman and Inbody. Yes, Brueggeman says that “theodicy is a constant concern of the entire Bible.” However (even with the “constant concern”) except for the temporary Deuteronomic “theodic settlement” that the article says, following Brueggeman, was soon contradicted by Jeremiah and especially by Job, the Bible offers no theodicy, maybe hints of one. So except for a short time and in the Bible as a whole “there is no biblical theodicy” (Inbody). But feel free to add whatever would make this clearer for readers, either now or after the article goes live.
(4) You said that “more could have been said on the question of free will.” That’s an understatement. A twenty-year old bibliography lists 349 books on the free will theodicy and there are many more books on free will since the bibliography. In earlier (three times longer) drafts, I had much more. But the article was too long, so in this 3rd draft I have kept the focus on the Bible and on biblical scholars except for Adler’s writing on the three meanings of free/freedom. I read Jung’s book some years ago. If the article survives going live, feel free to work him into the article.
(5) You characterize the article both a “very good” and as “pretty good.” Either way do you think that the article can “go live” without being deleted or userfied? At this stage, that is all I want to do. Then other editors, maybe including yourself, can make it a better article.
If the article went live, would you be willing to remove the new article template? Would you defend it if there are attempts to delete or userfy the article? Thanks again for your comments. Vejlefjord (talk) 20:06, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
- Vejlefjord's 2nd Reply
- Thank you for protecting the article IF I clarify which Biblical version I am citing. Are you saying that Endnote 14 stating that the article uses the NRSV when I used a biblical quotation for the first time is not sufficient? Are you saying that a statement about which version should it be in the body of the article? If the latter, I will do so. Please let me know. Thanks. Vejlefjord (talk) 02:23, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Your contributed article, File on Four
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, File on Four. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - File on 4. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at File on 4 - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. wackywace 16:24, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
on Politics in the British isles
[edit]Hi; I noted your recent comment here was inserted into the old section of the AfD; the discussion was closed, but has now restarted, so if you want your comment to be seen you may want to consider moving it down to this section: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Politics_in_the_British_Isles#Crown_dependencies_.2F_Ireland-United_Kingdom_relations. --KarlB (talk) 16:12, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- I think you may be mixing up British Islands with British Isles. An article on the politics of the British Islands makes sense — all of the states and territories involved have constitutional links to the UK. A problem with politics in the British Isles is that it throws a random third state, with no constitutional links to the UK, into the mix: the Republic of Ireland. --RA (talk) 19:29, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- hehe... yeah, Ireland is a totally random addition; it obviously has no connection whatsoever with the politics of the UK. oh, wait...--KarlB (talk) 19:31, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- (Sorry for hijakcing your talk page, ACEOREVIVED)
- You will accept that Ireland is, unequivocally, not a part of the UK? That they are two separate states entirely. In contrast, the Crown Dependencies are considered part of the UK for certain legal matters, have a constitutional relationship with the UK and the UK is responsible certain matters with respect to their governance, external relation and defence (pedantic distinctions between "the Crown" and the UK aside). Additionally the Parliament at Westminster can, strictly speaking, legislate for them at any time.
- In that sense, in comparison to the relationship between the Crown Dependencies and the UK, Ireland is a "random" third state. An article on the politics of the UK and the Crown Dependencies makes sense. Lobbing Ireland into the mix alongside them is a bit bizarre. You might as well have an article on Politics of the United Kingdom as it would be if 1922 never happened. --RA (talk) 19:48, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- yes, Ireland is not part of the UK. But neither are the crown dependencies. And, we have provided multiple independent bodies of scholarship that look at Ireland, the UK, and the channel islands together, or in various subsets, and study politics, comparative politics, international relations, political movements, political parties, and so on, across the isles. And, of course, we have extant multilateral bodies that have as members almost all of the countries in the isles, notably including Republic of Ireland. So, while you may find it bizarre to consider RoI in a broader context of the archipelago, many other reliable sources do not consider it odd.--KarlB (talk) 20:53, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- hehe... yeah, Ireland is a totally random addition; it obviously has no connection whatsoever with the politics of the UK. oh, wait...--KarlB (talk) 19:31, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Vejlefjord again
[edit]With your encouragement, I have followed the “go live” procedure, so “Theodicy and the Bible” is now a published article. Please check it out, remove the new article template if there is one, and rate it if you like. Thanks for your help. Vejlefjord (talk) 21:55, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
The article Nathan Caton has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the prod blp tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Bihco (talk) 08:29, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
The article The Mango Walk has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No indication of notabilty, importance, etc. If you are the author and you'd like to keep this page, please add indications of this article's importance.
In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. TwoMartiniTuesday (talk) 08:34, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Theodicy and the Bible Article
[edit]Notice that User:StAnselm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:StAnselm) has added a banner to the article “Theodicy and the Bible” that reads “This article is written like a personal reflection or essay rather than an encyclopedic description of the subject. Please help improve it by rewriting it in an encyclopedic style. (June 2012)” You might want to give your opinion to User:StAnselm. Vejlefjord (talk) 21:21, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
Referencing
[edit]My comment simply meant that, if you are thinking of adding material to an article that is in any way contentious or debatable - in fact, any information at all - you should cite reliable sources for doing so. You should not just add information that you "know" to be "correct" - you should explain which published reliable sources you got the information from. This is fundamental to Wikipedia - if you haven't already read the guidance, I suggest you start with WP:V. cn (citation needed) is simply shorthand for saying that a statement in an article needs to be based on reliable existing sources. Section edit summaries
[edit]I have noticed that when you make a section edit, you write the edit summary by replacing the section title inside /* ... */
. You are supposed to leave /* ... */
alone and write the edit summary afterwards. Then people can see which section you edited, and the edit summary automatically makes a link to the section. See Help:Edit summary#Section editing. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:19, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- You are still doing it wrong. I'm not asking you to make more edit summaries. I'm asking you to format them correctly when you do make them. For example, in [4] you must have changed the prefilled edit summary
/* Quizzes */
- into
/* Getting rid of reference in wrong place */
- It should have been
/* Quizzes */ Getting rid of reference in wrong place
- It's confusing to look at your section edit summaries for users who know how they are meant to look, and the section link on the little arrow → never works. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:08, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
- It's still not right. My posts only refer to the case where you click the "edit" link to the right of a section. When you do so, the section edit summary box starts with something like
/* Quizzes */
if the section was called "Quizzes". Do not delete or change a single character in this. The only thing you should do is write your own edit summary after the end of: /* Quizzes */
- For example, if you want your edit summary to be "Getting rid of reference in wrong place" then the edit summary box should contain all of this when you click save:
/* Quizzes */ Getting rid of reference in wrong place
- If you for some reason don't want the section name "Quizzes" to be part of the edit summary then delete both "Quizzes" and the surrounding
/* ... */
. But unless you need extra space to write a very long edit summary, it is nearly always best to keep the section name in the edit summary. To see how a correct edit summary for a section works, click the small arrow "→" in my edit [5] with edit summary "→Section edit summaries: You are still doing it wrong". If you click the arrow then your browser should take you to the section I edited. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:58, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- It's still not right. My posts only refer to the case where you click the "edit" link to the right of a section. When you do so, the section edit summary box starts with something like
This is the text that you are going to verify with a reference.[1]
Re:Userpage by a new name
[edit]Yes, you are right, I was that TheRetroGuy, although it's been about twelve months since I changed my name. It was inspired by my interest in music, film, television, etc, from the past, and was the first one that sprang to mind when I registered, but I'd wanted to change it for a while. Incidentally, I'm glad to see the Miriam O'Reilly article has expanded a lot since I last looked at it a year or so back. I'm sure I saw her mentioned on the news a couple of weeks ago in relation to something so I'll have to take a look, and perhaps add the information if it's something new about her. Speedy deletion nomination of Roule Cheese
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Roule Cheese, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
Lemon Puff is a type of biscuit with a scalloped edge and a sugary filling. It has a centre with cream. It is one of the most popular biscuits in Sri Lanka. References: http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com/biscuits/views.php3?values=0&size=1&item=942 |
Per your comments at WT:AFD, here is the (currently deleted) content of the page as of your last edit (and at that point, you were the only contributor).
I did not restore the store link per kww's comments. - jc37 19:00, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

- You're quite welcome
- It looks like it was assessed as promotional due to the links being to a store, and a site selling a book.
- At this point, I would suggest seeing about some other references if possible. If the food is popular in Sri Lanka, then that should be fairly easy to verify in reliable sources.
- But note, I would advise against mere re-creation at this point.
- I hope this helps. - jc37 19:10, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Widr (talk) 10:58, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I cannot take credit for the message above, as it was automatic, but your reply showed a really good sport. I also took a look at the Ice Cream article and discussions of it. While a new article just on one flavor might not be necessary, you could probably try to expand the article with the additional information on those different flavors. Just an idea, though. Happy editing! Widr (talk) 16:46, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for January 31
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ernie Rea, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Beyond Belief (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, ACEOREVIVED. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Costing the Earth, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:

- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Bensci54 (talk) 18:12, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Leading Space
[edit]Hi, I saw your help desk post about beginning lines with a space causing them to render in the dotted box and it reminded me of when I had the same problem and couldn't figure it out. I eventually found it on this page here - Help:Wiki_markup fairly near the bottom marked as a Leading Space. The link has been extremely useful to me several times, hope this helps! Mark up?
[edit]Hi ACE, I'm a bit puzzled by your markup as you've been editing for years. Programmes, series, films, albums, books, exhibitions and the like are written in italics. For example: Front Row and To Kill a Mocking Bird. Poems, songs, articles, short stories and essays are given in quote marks. For example "Ozymandias", "Yesterday" or "The Book of Sand". The guidelines are here. MOS:QUOTEMARKS#Names_and_titles, MOS:ITALIC#Italic_face. Is this new to you? It's pretty basic stuff. Span (talk) 00:49, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

- You asked for clarification on A930913's talk page. In short, this edit was missing a closing parenthesis for "(just before the Today programme...", presumably here. Fixed. On an unrelated note, I've also disambiguated the "Today" link. Huon (talk) 14:05, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Stream of Sound
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Stream of Sound requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Kolbasz (talk) 23:47, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Question on Niacin Article
[edit]Greetings Valiant Editor, ACEOREVIVED, I am writing because I looked at the Niacin article. I see some contradictory text and some need for copy or better editing. It also looks like you were the last registered, still active, non-bot editor, back in 2011. So, before I wade into that thing, I wanted to get your take on it. I'm not competent on the bio-chemistry. Are niacin and niacinamide convertible to each other, or not? Can you take a run at that part and then I'll come back and edit for encyclopedic style, smooth English reading, etc. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Girl in cake
[edit]I noticed that you are one of the leading editors at List of cakes. Do you know if we have an article or content in a section of another article for the type of giant cake from which a model pops out for festive occasions (e. g. this video)? I understand that these are sometimes made largely or entirely of cardboard and frosting, but sometimes there is a real cake outside of the hidden compartment. I have tried surprise cake, pop cake and popup cake.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:40, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
