Five Pillars of Wikipedia
Float around for awhile until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. There are also many great committees and groups that focus on particular jobs. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English and Wikipedia:Cleanup for sloppy articles. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy.
There are a few crucial points to keep in mind when editing. Be civil with users, strive to maintain a neutral point of view, verify your information, and show good etiquette like signing your comments with four tildes like this: ~~~~ If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page or ask the true experts at Wikipedia:Help desk. Again, welcome! -- Draeco 06:41, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi. Just so you know, the "right" way to object to a proposed deletion is simply by removing the template. (But don't do this for AfD's. You can tell the difference because the AfD template says not to remove it.) I did this for you on CBOSS, but I'd recommend that instead of adding notability information to the talk page, please put it directly into the article. Thanks for your contributions! Port Scanners
[edit]Hi, I see you've made an edit in addition to my changes to the Port Scanner article. That was my first forray into writing on Wikipedia. I'd be interested on any feedback you have on my work. I realise I haven't included references, which is bad. Most references would be less reliable than the normal "peer reviewed journals" standard, but I expect would be enough. For example, http://insecure.org/nmap/man/
I have been considering adding a lot of information to the articles on computer security, particularly pen testing tools. One thing I am worried about is the "no original research" criteria. There's a bunch of stuff I could write about that isn't really original, it's just not widely documented. Would this be appropriate for Wikipedia? Perhaps you know of another project that does allow orginal research.
Regards,
Paj28 21:59, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hello. Dont' worry about original research, many articles in that area must be good sources for information. I think this is appropriate for wiki. a5b 21:38, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Possible russian
[edit]Hi. I am wondering if you could help me identify the language spoken in this short audio file: [1]. One actor by the name of "Árni Bergmann" is credited as a Russian bishop. And that's what leads me to believe that the language might be russian. Can you help? --Steinninn 08:08, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. I can't listen this file. `a5b 12:02, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- First part of this audio file contains a non-Russian speach - it might be Moldavian or Romanian. But after first part of the speach there is a translation of first part into Russian with some accent - it might be also moldavian or romanian accent. 18:44, 17 January 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hhhggg (talk • contribs)
Bee GNU/Hurd
[edit]A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Bee GNU/Hurd, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. mms 20:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
The problem in SCIB was not with interwiki, it was with one of the other language wikis, Esperanto, Slovenčina, Slovenščina, Русский. Someone added the de: article, resulting in bots adding it to all the other languages. I removed it from all four languages and it should be fine now. Just thought you'd like to know for the future, I had to discover this myself. --Muhandes (talk) 13:35, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
[edit]Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:07, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
The article Lee Zaituni has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Per WP:VICTIM and WP:BLP1E, this should be an article on the accident if notable; however, the accident itself does not seem notable.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Inks.LWC (talk) 01:10, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. How can I check, is the accident notable by itself? Almost every Israely newspaper and radio talks a lot about this accident. There are lot english sources too. [3] `a5b (talk) 01:15, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Graph500 for deletion, because it seems to be an promotion, rather than an encyclopedia article.

Ajax app
[edit]I hear you when you say "not a promotional page to commercial comics. This is 5$ app; and it is APPL only app. Deleted www.cognitocomics.com/operationajax/" here but I disagree, in the end, with your deletion. All media are paid, one way or another; more and more Western "newspapers" on line are part or all behind pay walls. I sometimes note "subscription required" for example; I'd favor a note here like "paid app". Books of course have to be purchased. You call it "comics". Whoever added it called it "graphic novel". Either way, it addresses the topic of the article. You seem annoyed it's Apple-only. Again, it was labeled as such. It's not that restrictive. A plot summary; or a critique; would be good; even a promotional blurb. You are annoyed at the concept of "promotion". Every writer cited in Wikipedia is, among other things, promoting him- or herself. We don't want veiled promotion; but if it's labeled as such I think this item helps extend the reach of the article. Finally, this isn't going to make you feel better, and I'm not real happy with it myself, but this showed up in a search for Cogito Comics: Andy Duncan (musician). I hope, even with that last, that you'll consider these thoughts and reconsider your action. Swliv (talk) 05:31, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Fully citing refs
[edit]A5b, when you add refs to articles (such as Google Glass), can you remember to use the "cite web" (or any other) citation template form and fill out as many of the fields as you can? Every ref should contain the author last/first, title, url, date published, work, publisher (optional, for parent company of website), and access date. I've filled them out for you this time, but can you fully cite them the next time you add refs? Thanks. - M0rphzone (talk) 07:31, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
