Templates
[edit]They can be in categories that are meant for templates, such as one or more of the categories listed at Category:Wikipedia template categories that exist to help Wikipedia editors find templates, but they can't be in categories whose primary purpose is to group related articles for the readership. Bearcat (talk) 20:12, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oh okay! Thank you so much! I didn’t even know there were specific template categories. This is incredibly helpful information. 4theloveofallthings (talk) 20:14, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
Requesting some copy edit help
[edit]Hi, I am user Bookku usually work in information and knowledge gap areas. Just worked on sandbox draft 'My Body No Choice'.
As such I have made input and ce help request @ WT:WOMRED too but since you seem to have previously edited article Theatre (though small but concerned edit) may be it would be easier for you to help out if the topic would interest you. Thanks. -- Bookku (talk) 09:45, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, friend!
- “though small but concerned edit” haha! I love it. I don’t think I have ever been so stressed out over the mere placement of two letters in my entire life.
- I will absolutely check out your draft. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. 4theloveofallthings (talk) 00:25, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Also! If you’re interested in seeing the follow-up war between myself and a few other editors in regards to that “Theatre vs Theater” debacle.. haha.. the battle relocated to the talk page on the Professional wrestling article.
- Link to the debate April 23rd-April 26th 2023
- A very heated debate over such a hyper-technical edit. Worth the read! 4theloveofallthings (talk) 00:47, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry I really had missed the next edit to yours and also unaware of all that followed that particular small edit. :)
- While inviting your help for ce I had simple guess some one cares small difference may help me in ce that is it. Then I realized as per WP rules I have to send invitation to everyone engaged in the discussion, as such if I get more helping hands for ce no issues but my article draft is small almost next stub. Thanks. Bookku (talk) 05:05, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
- I have begun copy editing your writing. I will return to it tomorrow and strengthen it up with some sources and clean it up a bit. I only edited the opening paragraph thus far. Upon searching up the play, it has some really good sources that have a plethora of information that I think would be very useful to include.
- If you ever want to revert my edits and tell me to stop because I am not editing in a way that you find useful, please don’t hesitate to do so. I will not be offended in the slightest, and thank you for inviting me to edit such an important draft about a powerful piece of feminist art. I am glad you decided to take on the task of creating the article. I think it is very important. 4theloveofallthings (talk) 08:26, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:John Mateer's 'METRONOME' Artwork.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:John Mateer's 'METRONOME' Artwork.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:24, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, I can take a look at the John Lauro article. May have comments to you later today, possibly tomorrow. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 16:31, 3 August 2023 (UTC)

Review
[edit]Article looks good; will be a developing story, as the Trump saga unfolds; this is a good beginning.
Here's my suggestions:
- I would add a "US spelling" tag at the top of the page, at the same spot as the date format tag. I generally set the spelling for all pages I create, and also for existing pages that have a clearly defined usage, but no spelling tag. Avoids controversy in the future, like the wrestling one. (!)
- My personal preference is not to put cites in the lead paragraph, or in the infobox. This is just personal style. I think of the lead as the overall summary, designed to give the complete picture of the article to the reader, and I think cites are a bit distracting. I also don't like cites in the infobox, because they are the ones that start "1", "2", etc. A reader going through the article may not realise that the earliest cites are in the infobox, and be puzzled if the first cite they come across when reading the body of the article is "3". Just my personal preference, but I find them a bit distracting in the lead and infobox. YMMV, of course. I would suggest moving the cites from the infobox and lead into the body of the article.
- Cite 2: I would avoid using one of the "breaking news" articles that the NYT, WaPost, and Guardian use, which are constantly being updated. By the time your reader is reading the article the next day, the part that you were referring to may be way down at the bottom of the breaking news article, if at all. Now that most media are reporting Trump's arraignment, should be possible to find one that is more stable. That could well be at the NYT, Guardian, etc - I'm not knocking them as sources, just avoid the "breaking news" articles that are inherently dynamic.
- Cites 7 & 8: I would avoid using these cites at all. Anytime I read an article that relies on advertising material put out by the subject of the article, I suspect promotional wiki-work. I'm not suggesting that's the case here, just letting you know that if you do use paid promotional material from the subject of the article, other editors' spidey-sense may start tingling. I think you can find the material that you're using those cites for in your other cites. The Florida bar listing (currently cite 1) says that he's got a law degree from Georgetown, for example. Even if you can't find the magna cum laude stuff at the moment, it might come out in future news articles. From skimming through the other cites, I think you could find support for the same points that are supported currently by 7 & 8.
- "Career" - I stumbled over "business partner" in the first line. Does it mean that he and Singer were in business before entering into a law partnership? I think you mean that he opened a law partnership with Singer? If that is the case, I'd re-word the sentence to avoid the "business partner" term.
- Cite 8 - you could use the CNN "quietly adds" article to support him having offices in Florida and NY, and get rid of 8. Don't need the specific details about what cities in Florida he has offices in.
- "Criminal conspiracy" section
- I would keep an eye on the news. This will be the section that develops the most.
- I would add the CNN "quietly adds" cite here, after "following Trump's indictment." (add apostrophe, and period - the sentence is currently too long.)
- Start the new sentence: "He revealed early hints etc."
- Clarify relationship to Eastman, as a former lawyer: "...blaming John Eastman, one of Trump's former lawyers, for allegedly giving him advice..." (personal style note: I don't like ending a phrase with a dangling possessive: "one of Trump's lawyers" reads better to me than "a lawyer of Trump's"; I always say to myself "of Trump's what?" Just a style comment; YMMV).
- "Personal Life" section - in the infobox, you say that he's divorced, without a cite, and don't mention it here. Can you provide details and a cite?
- "External links" - I would delete this section entirely. You've already got his law firm website in the infobox. Putting it there and here is a flag that this might be paid editing. I'm sure it's not, but excessive reliance on the business web presence of the subject of a bio is a red flag. One entry in the infobox is enough.
Hope this helps. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 00:36, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- I appreciate this very much! Give me a bit and I will thoroughly read this and respond. I just have to finish up at work. Thank you for taking the time to give the article a thorough analysis. That was really awesome of you! 4theloveofallthings (talk) 15:44, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- You're very welcome. Mr Lauro has been in the news a lot today, with his comments about Trump just wanting to slow the vote count down. Probably worth adding that to the criminal conspiracy section. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 16:42, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- Feel free to contribute! It’s not my article, I just created it. :) 4theloveofallthings (talk) 16:54, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Metronome Discretion Notice.ogg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Metronome Discretion Notice.ogg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Estopedist1 (talk) 05:36, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- Huh? The file has a source listed. It is hyperlinked and leads directly to a page on the article subject’s official website. It even has the license information listed. I will not refer to the “image use policy” over an audio file. Thanks. 4theloveofallthings (talk) 06:02, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

- The source is also listed on this file. The archive account is the article subject’s official archive. If you go to the official website the archive is listed as officially associated. Under that file, it is listed as dedicated to the public domain. Again, why are you asking me to review the image use policy? These edits were just pointlessly disruptive. 4theloveofallthings (talk) 06:23, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Brad Heckman
[edit]Hello 9t5, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Brad Heckman, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brad Heckman.
Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|FormalDude}}

Speedy deletion nomination of File:MetronomeTrailer.ogg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:MetronomeTrailer.ogg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. reppoptalk 06:58, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]A page you created has been nominated for deletion as an attack page, according to section G10 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
Do not create pages that attack, threaten, or disparage their subject or any other entity. Attack pages and files are not tolerated by Wikipedia, and users who create or add such material may be blocked from editing. Fram (talk) 13:30, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
- Attack page? It has blown up the news in the Northeast. I cited NBC, ABC & CNN. You should be blocked from editing for making such a wild assessment of something that has clearly been reported on extensively in the media. You’re out of your mind. 9t5 (talk) 22:24, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

- Fram, you’re right, you’re not out of your mind… just another careless twinkle editor. Have a great day. 9t5 (talk) 13:32, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:2024 Kissena Park sexual assault case (wanted poster).jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a copyright violation and has no credible claim of fair use or permission. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
Whpq (talk) 03:14, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Whpq how was this a copyright violation? I want you to explain. 9t5 (talk) 05:12, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

- @Whpq and if you and your friends could stop stalking my contributions, that would be lovely. Cheers. WP:WITCHHUNT 9t5 (talk) 05:22, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- I am not stalking you. Our only prior interaction that I am aware of is my closure of the MFD for your contest. -- Whpq (talk) 06:09, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

- The message above is a standard message, but as an arbitrator I'd welcome suggestions of how to change the wording to make it less insulting. I can find no record of where the awareness box you've posted here was previously. Can you please point me to where it was as I did check for it before leaving you that message and did not find it and would like to not repeat that mistake with other users. Thanks, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:19, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Barkeep49 When you go to edit my talk page, the notice I posted above is shown stating I should not be given the alert you left on my talk page. 9t5 (talk) 07:30, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- I suppose Barkeep can be forgiven for not looking 5 days into the future to see you add that to your editnotice. DanCherek (talk) 17:01, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- @DanCherek good catch. Haha. 9t5 (talk) 17:02, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- @DanCherek I still think it was inappropriate to place on my page given I am clearly dealing with contentious topics frequently, but I will forgive it based solely on what you just called out. I did, indeed, add the notice afterwards. 9t5 (talk) 17:05, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Mistake?
[edit]Was this meant for someone else, or were you asking my opinion of a policy? - Adolphus79 (talk) 17:18, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Adolphus79 Was asking you if you are comfortable with me nominating you for adminship. 9t5 (talk) 08:34, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, well, thank you very much! I am greatly honored by the consideration, it has been a goal of mine for 17 years to do more to help this 'pedia I love, but I don't think you would get much support. Sadly, the community has made it clear multiple times over my tenure here that they do not want me as an admin, and have beaten me down whenever I tried to do more than just minor janitorial edits. Also, if you want to read my talk page, I'm sure many will have a problem with my mental breakdown last year, and the gap in editing when I was forced to take a wiki-break. Again, thank you very much, but I have no chance of ever passing. - Adolphus79 (talk) 14:36, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Adolphus79 I actually became aware of you during your struggles last year, and I empathize deeply with you on them. Your openness on the topic, gentle nature, genuine care for the project, and experience on Wikipedia are all reasons why you should be an admin. You may not be the first pick for those who look down on new editors, but as someone who was encouraged by your words when I began editing — leading me to stick with it rather than quit — I can assure other editors that you are doing more to help with the major issue plaguing modern Wikipedia: the decline in new editor retention. I want you to be an admin. I know other Journeyman-Yeoman editors who feel the same. 9t5 (talk) 02:39, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for all of that... I try to help all new users, I want them to stay, without new users the 'pedia would eventually fade away. I see that you don't have any experience at WP:RfA though (here's a fun one to read), so I would suggest maybe finding a regular or two over there that would be interested in co-nominating, I might accept.
- P.S. I just realized who you were while checking your contributions... lol - Adolphus79 (talk) 04:30, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Adolphus79 No nomination will be made until it is solid and done correctly. I will reach back out to you beforehand, and if you don’t give your approval then I won’t go forward with it. Cheers! 9t5 (talk) 11:57, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Duplicate template
[edit]Hi, 9t5. I noticed the recent creation of Template:SudoAdmin. I just wanted to let you know that it is essentially a duplicate of Template:Administrator without tools, at least in objective, if not appearance. Have a look at them and see what you think. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 05:25, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Mathglot Aw I even like the other one better. The sentiment is nice. I’ll tag mine for speedy deletion. Thank you for coming to me about it. 9t5 (talk) 01:28, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
