Knowing your interest into contributing (rather than deleting) I suggest you to look at the situation around The National Memo article (check the edits history and the Talk page) as an example of Wikipedia inherent bureaucracy and limited common sense. I haven't seen such a blatant example of biased attitude to obviously notable things. You gonna love it, lol. -- Bbarmadillo (talk) 18:46, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Will look into it. Thanks. 7&6=thirteen () 23:34, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Incomplete DYK nomination

Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/Long face syndrome at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; if you would like to continue, please link the nomination to the nominations page as described in step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 01:49, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

January 2018

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Lucca (dog). Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.
The consensus on the talk page is to find a better source or not have the data at all. Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 14:03, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Received your template. Apparently you overlooked the discussion on the article talk page. WP:BRD It is you who is WP:Edit warring not me. Template yourself. Join us on the talk page. We can arrive at a consensus, and there will be no edit war. 7&6=thirteen () 15:12, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
Lucca (dog) resurrected! Or at least back from the dead per Talk:Lucca (dog). And you can eliminate reference to LuccaK458 and the death notice (which in its totality is reliable on this issue), but eliminating the text and the irrefutable fact of death won't resurrect the dog. And the triumph of rules over sanity only makes this article (and the encyclopaedia) less accurate. And article is now free of reliable Facebook source per consensus that all Facebook pages are unreliable. Moving on ... 7&6=thirteen () 13:00, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

I tried to post a link to an old (2015) verb of that article for you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, but Fram deleted my whole post as "copy vio." DYK for Houdini Museum of New York

On 29 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Houdini Museum of New York, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Houdini Museum of New York houses the world's second largest collection of "Houdiniana"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Houdini Museum of New York. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Houdini Museum of New York), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Gatoclass (talk) 12:12, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

I missed ever interacting with User:Coffee for my first ten years here.
Then Coffee came here, templated me for a nonexistent edit war, and I responded. The underlying kerfuffle was at Lucca (dog) and dribbled over here. Now I was just banned from ever casting my shadow on that page (there, but more directly Coffee's talk page). With a threat of adverse Administrative action. I got a notice of it; and then the page just disappeared.
I was awarded a "badge of honor", which included a collection of experienced editors who are not to post on Coffee's talk page. I won't do it, even as the ban was deleted. These actions should be revealed for all to see. Not "rug-sized."
Got better and more constructive ways to waste my time.
I will stay off the coffee plantation, imbibe decaf only, and avoid further conflict to the best of my ability. I hope we all can can the bullshit and build a better Encyclopædia together. 7&6=thirteen () 16:00, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello 7&6=thirteen, thank you for your efforts in reviewing new pages!
The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
  • Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

Hi. Knowing your strong common sense and goodwill, I kindly ask you to look at my recent proposed edits to The National Memo article and comment on them here. They are reasonable and neutral, but I can't persuade the reviewing editor to include them into the article. Thank you. -- Bbarmadillo (talk) 17:52, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

I put back "Its editorial stance is predominantly from a left-wing point of view." Hope that helps. 7&6=thirteen () 18:08, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
Thank for this little help. However, this is not right and misleads the reader. Website is liberal and progressive. Please check my proposed edits at the talk page (last post). This description is properly referenced. Adweek article says "new progressive email newsletter" and "That pulled together a large list of progressives, liberals, and Democrats across the country, who are very interested in political issues". So left-wing is a clear overstatement (and it is not supported by trusted sources). I think you better express your point of view at the talk page rather than by editing the article (it got a bit "toxic", I suppose) :) -- Bbarmadillo (talk) 18:23, 7 February 2018 (UTC)
I am not a reader (that I recall) of the Naional Memo. So I am no better than the sources. 18:33, 7 February 2018 (UTC)

New Page Review Newsletter No.10

Hello 7&6=thirteen, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.

Paid editing

  • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

  • While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

News

  • The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. All editors of Wikipedia and associated projects are welcome to submit articles on any topic for consideration by the The Signpost's editorial team for the next issue.

Edit to the El Faro page

Thank you for considering and acting upon my amendment to the El Faro page to remove the link to the April 2018 Vanity Fair article about the ship's sinking. However, I'd further ask that you remove the link from the references - the information you attribute to that article can be better sourced with the NTSB report 'Sinking of US Cargo Vessel SS El Faro, Atlantic Ocean, Northeast of Acklins and Crooked Island, Bahamas, October 1, 2015', section 2.1 <ref>https://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/AccidentReports/Reports/MAR1701.pdf</ref> Bell207354 (talk) 20:04, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Bell207354 I understand your reasoning. Yes, there are other sources. Even better ones. But this article covers it for nontechnically oriented readers. Langewiesche, William (April 2018). ""The Clock is Ticking" Inside El Faro: The Worst U.S. Maritime Disaster in Decades". Vanity Fair. Retrieved April 13, 2018. A recording salvaged from three miles deep tells the story of the doomed El Faro, a cargo ship engulfed by a hurricane. Having redundant sources is not a hindrance to our readers; they are not fungible, like peas in a pod. So I have considered your request, but we will have to agree to disagree. It should stay. Best regards. 7&6=thirteen () 20:58, 13 April 2018 (UTC)

Ok, I see your point. In that case, please could you switch the reference to the below article from USA Today, which 1) should address the readability issue, 2) covers the same points and 3) is also free from the inaccuracies that are included in the Vanity Fair article? I agree that multiple, even overlapping sources is no bad thing, but I do have a problem with poor sources being given undue credibility by being listed alongside other, more valid ones. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2017/12/12/el-faro-ntsb-investigation/944537001/

Bell207354 (talk) 12:08, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

The Vanity Fair article is derived from the transcripts of the voice recordings. So your point about deleting it as unreliable makes no sense. Indeed, it seems to be narrowly and specifically tailored around the transcript, with little embellishment. The deductions they make are supported by the words they quote.
If you want to add other sources, you are free to do so as far as I am concerned. 7&6=thirteen () 12:39, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Turns out that removing that template was more complex than either of us had thought, but I hope that's an end to the matter. I want to focus on the article, and I thank you for your help with that. I particularly appreciate your consolidation of the references. I know this is a skill I need to improve: usually I put the whole citation in, which can grow ungainly. Could you offer any advice on a simple way through the thicket of Wiki-rules? Carbon Caryatid (talk) 13:33, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
Got the template taken care of. Had to find an admin that was interested and disposed.
Carbon Caryatid Try to learn to use Wikipedia:Citation templates. And learn to use WP:SFN. See e.g., Frank Fowler Loomis for an example. Or Scallop. That should get you started. It's a building process, so you should not let it put you off your editing. Rome wasn't built in a day. User: Doug Coldwell is somebody to emulate. If you want more guidance, please let me know. 7&6=thirteen () 14:43, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm used to using the citation templates. SFN is new to me. I'll see how it goes. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 17:11, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

So much to learn .... But you can get there. 7&6=thirteen () 17:13, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Carbon Caryatid Be are of WP:CITEVAR. Some folks just don't want to change ... Don't want to get into a fight over nothing important. NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello 7&6=thirteen, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

DYK for Drift whale

On 26 June 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Drift whale, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Icelandic word for "drift whale" translates as "windfall", since the washed-up carcass provides meat, blubber, fat, and other benefits to the finders (pictured)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Drift whale. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Drift whale), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hey

Could you perhaps change some sourcing in the NSU article nominated at ITN. Source 1 is a far right blog and hence totally unacceptable. The source to the names of the accused in the lead can be changed to, for example, this. The list of charges for the other defendants, also in the lead, can be sourced to this. Both should be totally reliable. I just don't want to mess anything up and usually do have trouble with displaying everything correct haha. Sorry to bother anyway. 31.150.101.31 (talk) 17:05, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hello 7&6=thirteen, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules
  • New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
  • Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
  • Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
Editathons
  • Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
The Signpost
  • The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

Ever been to Split Rock Lighthouse? A breathtaking site – and sight. Sca (talk) 21:14, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Thank you.
Never been there. With 150 Michigan lighthouses (lots I haven't seen, lots I have — and I've been to all of the Ohio, Indiana and most of the Wisconsin lights) I have a lot in my neighborhood. Looks lovely, remove and historical. I had worked on this long ago before I got P.O.'d at some officious interference with my Great Lakes and Michigan lighthouse project by some ne'er-do-wells on an issue over a very useful template. So I moved on to other stuff. Made some changes today. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers. 22:11, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello 7&6=thirteen, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news
As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
Other
Moving to Draft and Page Mover
  • Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
  • If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
  • Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
  • The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
  • The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.
List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

  • Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
  • In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions.
  • MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues.
  • User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
  • User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
  • User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you.
  • User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link.
  • User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
  • User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

FeralOink You are welcome. It is one of my shared opinions that Wikipedia is long on negative reinforcement (pokes. admonitions and threats), and short on strokes. we are all WP:Volunteers, and the failure to give out rewards is a big part of the reason why we have a problem with editor retention. People hold back on WP:Barnstars to retaliate because they feel they aren't getting any (which they deserve), so why share. Like it costs them money. It's a big encyclopaedia. I try to do my part, and when I run across someone deserving hand out something. It's electronic, but not trivial. 7&6=thirteen () 20:20, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Edit war warning

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Cutco shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello 7&6=thirteen, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

Backlog

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

NPR Newsletter No.15 16 November 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello 7&6=thirteen,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
  • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

Hello 7&6=thirteen,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Merry Merry

Happy Christmas!
Hello 7,
Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that

Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"

My thanks to you for your efforts to keep the 'pedia readable in case the firemen chose one of our articles :-) Best wishes to you and yours and happy editing in 2019. MarnetteD|Talk 07:37, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Peace Dove Christmas

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, peoples rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension.
Happy Holidays. ―Buster7  19:52, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

3RR

Hi, 7&6. I noticed that you gave a 3RR warning to Snooganssnoogans regarding Ryan Zinke. You need to give a warning to yourself also, since you have also reverted 3 times. I see that you are discussing at the talk page; the two of you need to resolve the issue there. You both know better than to risk getting yourselves blocked for edit warring. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:15, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

I know that. I'm done with it. 7&6=thirteen () 17:18, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
Adding to this, as the person who is trying to change the status quo it is your responsibility to try to build consensus for your edit, not edit war your bold change back into the article until you exhaust your opponent's 3RR. This is the type of thing that is going to get you a personal WP:1RR sanction (or worse) for the whole American Politics topic area. ~Awilley (talk) 17:35, 19 December 2018 (UTC) I highly recommend that you remove the subsection for now and see if you can't work out some sort of compromise with Snooganssnoogans on the talk page, like working a sentence or two into an existing paragraph. ~Awilley (talk) 17:38, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
I disagree. Take it to the article talk page. 7&6=thirteen () 17:44, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, what do you disagree with exactly? That it's your responsibility to build consensus? Take a look at the page restrictions at the top of the talk page, the one where it says: "All editors must obtain consensus on the talk page of this article before reinstating any edits that have been challenged (via reversion). This includes making edits similar to the ones that have been challenged. If in doubt, don't make the edit." (There's also a WP:1RR restriction which you blasted through.) I'm not going to block anybody...I realize you probably didn't see the warnings, and it looks like your first time editing the Zinke article. But please do take this warning seriously. ~User:Awilley(talk) 19:30, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
User:Awilley Sorry, I did not notice the warning on the talk page at the time. I did not mean to transgress. I'm done editing that article, and will let WP:Consensus control. It's out of my hands. Cheers. 7&6=thirteen () 19:44, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
Upon further investigation, it's no wonder you didn't notice the warning, because it was just added today after the edit war was already finished. I apologize to you for my mistake in not noticing that before, and for suggesting that you had violated sanctions that didn't exist when you were actually editing. ~Awilley (talk) 19:55, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
I took a look at this disagreement myself (as an editor, not an admin) and in my opinion the paragraph should be removed. I explained in detail at the talk page, and I will remove it while discussion goes on. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:56, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
The comparison of Ryan Zinke] to Tea Pot Dome scandal has been made so often as to be trite and a notorious meme. I put in six WP:RSs in the article (and another 4 on the talk page) to prove it. That the comparison has been made is a fact. This is also being discussed here.
So you are wrong. But you do what you have to do. 7&6=thirteen () 18:00, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
The same content that you keep trying to add to Ryan Zinke and which has been characterized as poorly sourced by three editors was also removed from the Teapot Dome scandal, yet you're now also edit-warring on that page to restore the same content[4]. Please stop. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 00:27, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Your accusation is without any factual foundation.
No edit warring. Teapot Dome scandal. Different article. WP:Censorship. WP:BRD. You appear to be WP:Wikistalking, but I'll wait and see on that. Take it to the talk page. 7&6=thirteen () 00:37, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

It's the exact same content that three editors voiced opposition to - it's just on a different page and now you're edit-warring to keep the very same content on that page. And no, I'm not gonna waste my time talking to you on a separate talk page when there is a discussion about it on a separate talk page where it's beyond any doubt that this absurd content doesn't belong on Wikipedia. As for your stalking accusation: in a talk page comment on the Ryan Zinke, you yourself rambled about your contributions on the Teapot Dome scandal page.[5] Snooganssnoogans (talk) 01:43, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
User:Snooganssnoogans Do not refactor my comments on my talk page. You know better. Please stay off my talk page. 7&6=thirteen () 04:07, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
It's now on Teapot Dome Scandal but excluded from Ryan Zinke. Trump presidency might be a good place to start. I can't and won't fight these wars by myself. Somebody put up a WP:1RR template, and I don't need the hassle. WP:Consensus rules, however misguided that may be. 7&6=thirteen () 16:22, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

Methinks I see an heavenly Host
Of angels on the wing;
Methinks I hear their cheerful notes,
So merrily they sing.

Let all your fears be banished hence,
Glad tidings I proclaim;
For there's a Savior born today
And Jesus is his name.

Lay down your crooks and quit your flocks,
To Bethlehem repair;
And let your wandering steps be squared
By yonder shining star.

Seek not in courts or palaces;
Nor royal curtains draw;
But search the stable,
See your God extended on the straw.

Then learn from hence, ye rural swains,
The meekness of your God,
Who left the boundless realms of joy,
To ransom you with blood.

The master of the inn refused
A more commodious place;
Ungenerous soul of savage mold
And destitute of grace.

- from William Billings, "Shiloh"

The first two cites for Die Hard are good. Unfortunately the other references you have added are two IMDB references, which I have already explained is not a reliable source, and a cite to a random bad recording of a TV show on Youtube, which is not reliable source either, and a copyright violation. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 18:13, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
They exist. Those were the only two on line references I was able to find. As to the random YouTube recording, it supports the premise. I put it there. You know how to remove it. Cheers. 7&6=thirteen () 18:18, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Very nice work getting sources, thank you. I have condensed the article to combine multiple statements of essentially the same facts, and removed the last unsupported wibble by Koszowski. Guy (Help!) 10:45, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. There are lots more sources, but I at least wanted to get enough to spike the misbegotten deletion. 7&6=thirteen () 10:50, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

I have promoted the hook for the Crooked Billet DYK but have tweaked both hook and article to do so. The trouble is, the source provides the information in a straightforward manner and it is difficult to replicate its meaning without being guilty of close paraphrasing. I hope you approve of my alterations. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:02, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

Cwmhiraeth DYK Looks fine to me. hooks are great. I approve. I had wanted to propose a hook that included the pub sign picture (which I really like), but couldn't formulate one. Thanks. Cheers. 7&6=thirteen () 13:02, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

So many prohibited groups. Irish? Swedes? Norwegians? Chinese? Indians? Hispanics? How will we enforce this, especially if they are editing anonymously.
Actually, that page has an apparent violation of WP:Outing. He probably is within an exception to that rule, as the edits came with links to his own articles. All of this is itself another issue.
      • If there is such a policy as cited WP:Outing, it should be abided by; there is no such an expetion therein - please, therefore, delete the added section on legal syllogism permanently sine I was not able to do that myslef. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Figreoutitis (talkcontribs) 17:36, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

Ok, but can you delete it by yourself with note that the contributor asked about it since he has'n t known about WP:Outing policy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Figreoutitis (talkcontribs) 18:21, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

In defense, I recognize that this editor and his apparent socks are a problem. He needs to figure out a way to 'come in from the cold' (a lot of this is really just content disputes) and get an account reinstated. But that is at a level outside my pay grade. 7&6=thirteen () 12:45, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
      • If I may add also some general explanation, how should one know that creating many accounts is or even could be something wrong? While starting editing the Wiki, there is no slightest warning, information or even a whish indicating that one is to be attached to one account and should remember the password and cannot starts every edit or series of edits from new account and abandoning the previous one. Instead, creating an account is very easy and takes a few seconds and one is encouraged to create it in addition, instead of editing the Wiki without account despite such possibility is also allowed.

In this case the only proven or most probable fact is that one person has written several articles which cite the same scholar. This person could be member of this scholar’s family, for instance father, his student, colleague, mate, fan or reader.

But even if the same person makes contribution to the Wiki whose paper is cited, is it really wrong? One who feels really competent in a given field publishes a paper on it in peer reviewed journals, which fact somehow – however in an imperfect way – confirms the quality of his/her findings. And after that he or she may add some content in the Wiki, being confident that it is correct, and citing his/her own work for he/she is adding this content upon this work (conclusion which were reached therein). What is wrong here? Otherwise, multitude of sources must be cited: scholarly articles are prepared upon ten thousands of sources and a single statement can have 20 position in footnote attached to it. It seems rather to be the perfect way of providing the Wiki with high-quality content, obviously provided the research was independent, objective and so on. It would be better if one another who is not competent and has misunderstood this work prepares the entry in the Wiki and cites this work, adding content of poor quality?

I am not the one to ask. There are policies about WP:Sockpuppet, WP:Meatpuppet, etc. When one gets blocked and then just comes back using another account, evading the WP:Block, that is a problem. I don't know if any of that applies to you or your situation. I know that I use one account, ever since I got one, and that if I should have a problem with the password, I get it reset. what I don't do is wander around creating accounts here and there. There is a clear preference for stability and identity of accounts. 7&6=thirteen () 18:34, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

I only tried to higlight this case. Such prefernce perhaps is, but new user of Wiki simple does not know about it, even if acting in a good faith. He/she should be informed about it. No-one here has been also eveding the block.

Look at this articles analogy, law, non liquet, statutory interpretation, metaphor, argumentum a contrario, argumentum a fortiori, loophole and Draft: Legal reasoning and you will see that edits form new accounts only perfect the current content. The edits demostrates good faith and not will to do something wrong.

This content was also not misquiding and not substentally incorrect.

You are appealing in the wrong court. Notwithstanding what I do in the real world, I am no administrator and no judge in Wikipedia. You are pleading your case, but I can't do anything about it. I understand that you are basically saying there were content disputes. I know nothing about that. Complete openness and candor will help – any shading or suspected untruth will be fatal. Remember, everything we say and do on Wikipedia is recorded and there for all to see. I suggest that you put that energy into trying to appeal the block(s) on your old account, and explain it there to an admin. Apologies, acts of contrition and firm purpose of amendment [should] go a long way toward getting your right to edit reinstated. But I'm not you avocat.
That's just my suggestion. It's worth what you paid for it. {:>{)>
Finally when you post on talk pages, don't forget to sign your note. Use four tiles ~~~~ Best of luck to you. 7&6=thirteen () 18:54, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. I wish you not to be an advocate who is mine. I wish you to be an advocate of every good case! Figreoutitis (talk) 19:12, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

I just wanted to save the article from deletion. Which I did. In spades. It's an interesting subject, but I don't want to do the work to bring it up to law review quality. Trying to do such an article, especially on an international level, is just outside my bailiwick. It doesn't dovetail much with my career or interests. 7&6=thirteen () 17:06, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Crooked Billet

On 31 January 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Crooked Billet, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Crooked Billet was the site of the first house in London that had a telephone, as well as electricity for illumination, boiling a kettle, and ironing? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Crooked Billet. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Crooked Billet), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Old refs for Ted Nugent

Hi 7&6=thirteen. I wanted to let you know that I came across some references you added to Ted Nugent years ago[6]. Some were unreliable (therichest.com, celebritybirthplace.com), so I did a bit of cleanup [7], and did similar cleanup for Redford, Michigan. --Ronz (talk) 19:35, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Ronz No worries. They were cumulative. Some folks had denied that he had the Redford, Michigan connection. There was a mass of evidence to the contrary. I solved the problem long ago and moved on. Cheers. 7&6=thirteen () 19:56, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Mr. Pointy

I appreciate the thanks, but not really necessary. It's not like it was hard... That said, I hope you'll not take amiss my removal of the "oil gauge" again, as off point to the page. (It's more apt for the lead-up page, where the reason can be included.) Pre-emptive I left in (tho frankly, I'm not positive about that, either). Carlo Collodi pull my string 00:41, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

User:Trekphiler User:DickDurbane I am sure we can reasonably differ as to where the material belongs in Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. But I can't agree that it was not "preemptive" or that the effectiveness of the oil embargo was a preeminent and motivating factor in the decision to attack. Indeed, back in the day, I remember one of my history professors opining on the situation. The Japanese hierarchy were essentially in a panic that the decline in oil stocks would make attacking Britain and the U.S. unsustainable, so they had to act now; and they had nothing but the vaguest of hopes on how they could win, or what their exist strategy might be.
I have seen that opinion expressed in documentaries since then.
I know that is not a WP:RS, so that is why I sourced this the way I did. And those are reliable sources. 7&6=thirteen () 13:56, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
I don't mean you're wrong on that, just that it seems off-point on that page; the Japanese intentions, IMO, belong better on the lead-in page than the actual attack page. You're quite right, Japan felt a need (reasonably so) to hit the U.S. before the oil supplies ran out. I might argue "pre-emptive" is the right term, because it suggests U.S. intent to attack, & Japan beating her to it, which isn't justified, but I have no better phrasing to suggest. I love your work on Gull Terrier its a great article now. Could you redirect Indian Bull Terrier to Gull Terrier. Dwanyewest (talk) 23:07, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks. I appreciate the credit. But it is not my article, and almost none of it is my work. I will put in a redirect.
FWIW, there are a number of dog articles I have worked on. For example, Bernese Mountain Dog, Leonberger (a comprehensive article IMO), Labrador Retriever, German Longhaired Pointer, Newfoundland, Great Pyrenees, etc. to name a few. These were breeds that I had personally owned, already knew something about; personal experience piqued my interest and research.
Of course, the list of dog breeds is almost endless, and there is much work to be done. 7&6=thirteen () 23:35, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Continuing that discussion on the AFD would be inappropriate, but...

Go for it. My comments are well within bounds. Pound sand and see what it gets you. Just so we're clear -- you're refusing to admit any fault in the above comment, and are saying that you will happily make such comments again in the future? That's ... an interesting take. Hijiri 88 (やや) 13:32, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

User:Hijiri88 There was and is no fault to admit. My comments were wholly appropriate. That is my principled position. You are free to disagree, and that's what we have talk pages for. You overstepped by trying to dictate content of my remarks, including limiting them in the future. Your attack and vacuous threats only prove that you did not comply with WP:Before and have no defense on the merits. As you did here, proposing and defending silly WP:AFDs is a waste of valuable editor time. I will say what I want in the future. Watch what you do. See WP:Boomerang. 7&6=thirteen () 15:51, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Taking this to your talk page, and hopefully this'll be the end of it

(FTR: I haven't read GC's comment, which he posted after I'd already written the following.)

I figured out what you meant before you told me. I know (and knew from when I checked that dictionary.com link -- indeed I had actually known from context) that you weren't literally talking about fecal matter. Your claiming that you have more "quality" experience of English than I is ... not helpful. I have not mentioned your poor spelling/grammar at any point in my interaction with you, and I would appreciate your not making comments like that just for the sake of civility. Please just drop it already. I have made a request multiple times, and you really should just respect simple requests like this: "don't use language that equates Hijiri88's comments to turds" is not technically a Wikipedia policy point that you are obliged to adhere to, but it's generally considered extremely poor form to repeatedly engage someone in a manner that they have politely requested you not do.

Please, just stop.

"It takes two to tango"
As I already indicated there, you have misinterpreted (and continue to misinterpret) the meaning of the idiom I used. You can be willfully blind if you so choose. I can't make you understand if you don't want to. Ipse dixit doesn't apply here. It ain't so just because you said it.
I speak no Japanese, and rely on Google translate for the following:

市民性と尊敬は相互的でなければなりません。 Shimin-sei to sonkei wa sōgo-tekidenakereba narimasen.

My words were: "Civility and respect must be mutual." Whether Google translate got that right, I do not know. I did NOT use the word "citizenship" which appeared when I tried translating this back.

Let us build a better encyclopædia together. 7&6=thirteen () 15:07, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello 7&6=thirteen,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.
