Edit summaries

[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. --220 of Borg 02:33, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Incineration may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • {For|other forms of waste plant that produces energy|waste-to-energy}
  • 2_Miljoe-tilstand/3_luft/4_adaei/doc/Poster_Eltra_PM.doc | title = PM Emission from CHP Plants < 25MWe | first1 = Malene | last1 = Nielsen | first2 = Jytte Boll | last2 = Illerup |

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 22:42, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Definitions of Monsoon vs. Savanna Climates

[edit]

The definitions given on this page are not consistent with each other. It says a tropical monsoon climate 'has its driest month seeing on average less than 60 mm, but more than 4% the total annual precipitation', which contrasts with a tropical savanna climate 'whose driest month sees less than 60 mm of precipitation and also less than 100 – [total annual precipitation {mm}/25] of precipitation.'

Those two definitions are not mutually exclusive. For example, imagine 1000mm total precip, with the driest month being 50mm. 50mm is more than 4% (actually 5%) of the total precip, so it counts as a tropical monsoon climate, but 50mm is also less than 100-1000/25=60mm, which means it would be classified as a tropical savanna climate as well. Similarly, if an area gets 2000mm of annual precip with a driest month of 40mm, it is neither monsoon (2%) nor savanna (100-2000/25 = 20mm)

There are a few logical problems here, but I think defining monsoon based on driest month >4% of annual total is the problem - that excludes climates with extraordinarily rainy wet seasons and pronounced dry seasons which the page later says are characteristic of one type of monsoon climate. If it was defined using the criteria that the driest month is greater than 100-[total/25], that would allow such climates again; places with rainfall above 2500mm annually would always be classified as tropical monsoon regardless of dry-month totals because 100-total/25 would be less than 0.

Edit - I replaced it so the definitions are consistent, but I can't verify the citation, so I don't know if that was incorrect or if it was interpreted/written on the wiki page incorrectly.
