My Warning...
[edit]I did not know I was not supposed to remove warnings, so that's why I got this! (for anyone else who decides to look at this page)
Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. --maru (talk) contribs 05:10, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Wykon etc
[edit]Hi The ed17! The Wykon article is very interesting. It's probably not altogether a notable subject, but the story is interesting enough for it to survive! I've given it a light polish to conform to the Manual of Style guidelines on article layout. Nothing major.
As for the entries on my talk page - these are fairly typical of what most admins get on their talk pages, especially if they regularly do vandalism or New Pages patrols. People do like to write articles about how wonderful they are and how X person smells bad etc. The moment the article is, unsurprisingly, deleted, they go from "just having a bit of fun" to being foulmouthed and making threats. It doesn't bother me (in fact I find the impotent rage funny) and I don't, generally, remove the stuff from my talk pages. Although it could give an impression of me as an argumentative and nasty person, when I'm actually a pussycat... with a "delete this page" button! :o) ➨ ❝REDVERS❞ 19:45, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the LTTE article
[edit]Hi, good to hear you realized your edits was vandalism. The article about the LTTE is a rather difficult piece to get right, as it involves a current conflict that is about to flare up (several dozens killed over the last week alone). Just to be able to keep it from locking up is a feat. Currently there are two guys with intimate knowledge of the conflict that will try to reach a consensus and for the time being the article is best left to them. Ulflarsen 17:37, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Reversions
[edit]You don't have to be an admin to revert. I'm just a regular user. Just go to the history of an article, click on the date of the good versiob, click edit and then save it. --waffle iron talk 21:28, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Revert
[edit]Someone else has taken care of that. For future reference, if you wish to revert vandalism, simply click on "history", click on the version of the page you wish to go back to, then press "edit this page", type an appropriate edit summary(i.e. Reverted edits by Willy on Wheels to previous version by Jimbo Wales, then press the "Save page" button and voila! It's as if vandalism never happened! :-) --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 21:30, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Will you join My Picture of the Day? The reason I have it, is so images that aren't Featured quality can still be featured. Anybody can put a picture there. All you have to do is pick a day for your picture, and create a page in "User:GeorgeMoney/Month DayNumber, Year". Then, use the following format: Put
on the page of the day you are creating (Remember for all of the optional variables that you don't use, totally remove them from the syntax). Then all you have to do is put
on your userpage, and it will automatically make the picture for the day. If you want to have it show your picture forever, put
. Replace "May 47, 2009" with the day your picture will be on.
Also, can you add your name to My Spamlist? Don't worry, my spam isn't bad and annoying like the Esperanza and Community Justice spam. My spam is just news and events in plain text formatting like this.
Thanks, --GeorgeMoney T·C 02:12, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Vote stacking
[edit]Please stop advertising MfD discussions to sway the 'vote' a particular way. It can result in you being blocked to stop it. --Sam Blanning(talk) 14:05, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
If you don't mind, I'd like to keep the discussion here rather than fragmenting it across our separate talk pages.
- Can I tell people about it without swaying them?? the_ed17(T)(C)(P)(F)(WW) 14:08, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- I strongly recommend against it, as everyone will think you're contacting people you think will 'vote' the way you want. Interested parties will see the big banner on Wikipedia:Random picture of the day anyway - that's what it's there for. --Sam Blanning(talk) 14:12, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Your signature
[edit]Could you please fix your signature to conform to the guidelines laid out at WP:SIG. In particular, your sig is incredibly long in Wiki source (several lines in the edit window), which causes it to overwhelm actual comments, making them hard to find and respond to. Also, you have lots of unnecessary links in your signature that should be removed. It should really only contain links to your user page, maybe your user talk page, and possibly your contribs. --Cyde↔Weys 15:06, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
I have to chime in here and agree with my colleague. This is what we see in the edit box:
WHATEVER YOU WROTE + <b><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua; color:#800000">the_ed17</span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua; color:#CC0000">(T)</span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua">(C)</span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua; color:#CC0000">(P)</span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua; color:#CC0000">(F)</span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua">(WW)</span></b>
That's more than half a kilobyte!
Alost invariably the signature completely overwhelms your comment and any other nearby comments. Its purpose seems to be to tell people about the following:
- 1) Your username and the location of your user page
- 2) The location of your user talk page
- 3) Your recent edits
- 4) A Wipedia project page called "Random picture of the day"
- 5) A Wikipedia article called "The West Wing (TV series)"
In general, I suggest that if you think that a page on which you make a discussion edit might benefit from a link to the random picture of the day or the West Wing article, you should add it individually to your edit. To put them into every single edit unnecessarily bulks out your signature and adds lots of irrelevant pages to the links list of those pages.
On your contributions, well you should be aware that this information can be obtained from your user page.
The user page and talk page links are very good and I commend you for including both.
Thanks for reading this, and I hope you'll take it in the spirit in which it's intended. --Tony Sidaway 17:19, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Also, you shouldn't have an external link in your sig (to the war wiki). That's considered advertising and is strongly discouraged. Also, as Tony says, the link to The West Wing and Random picture of the day are totally unnecessary. Just put those links on your userpage, not on every single talk page you ever edit. --Cyde↔Weys 17:50, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for making the effort, but I'm sorry that's even worse, even if it's shorter. You've included an external link so that every signed edit by you will be link spam. Let's take another look at it:
- WHATEVER YOU WROTE + <b><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua; color:#800000">the_ed17</span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua; color:#CC0000">(T)</span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua">(C)</span><span style="font-family:Book Antiqua; color:#CC0000">(P)</span>(F)(W)</span></b></small></small>
- Here you're including the following:
- Your user page
- Your talk page
- A Wikipedia project page called "Random picture of the day"
- A link to your Wikipedia friends page
- An external link to the war wiki
- Of the above, only either the first or second is strictly necessary, and both would be considered polite. The others, when included at the end of a comment in a discussion, are pure clutter, and some cases cause the link lists of Wikipedia pages to be filled with unnecessary noise.
- If I see your comments I want to be able to click on your signature and get to your user or user talk page. After that I can click on any link you should care to put there (do please include a link to your War Wiki account on that page). Any more is unnecessary and causes problems. --Tony Sidaway 17:57, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- I strongly agree. Please simplify your signature drastically. Thanks :) -Quiddity 18:54, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Star Trek/Doctor Who userboxes
[edit]Hello The ed17. Let me thank you for supporting my case concerning the Star Trek userboxes and a kind offer to save them from a complete deletion). However, after some testing I had to come to the conclusion that the proposed solution would not deprive Wikipedia of having separate categories for each of the Star Trek series. Thus, my comment on the template page was unintentionally misleading for which I truly apologise. I wish you happy editing and a speedy improvement of relations with your mother related to your computer privileges :-). RedZebra 03:46, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
